We graduated from YCโs Summer 23 batch and we've roughly doubled our ARR every 6 months since then. If you join, you'll be part of a high-growth startup with proven product-market fit, methodically building a billion-dollar company through a high-performance culture and exceptional talent.
Who are we looking for?
We need more smart backend people to help us grow and maintain our data platform. This includes many API integrations, high throughput data ingestion challenges, and processing millions of rows per second.
Our backend is built uponย Node.jsย andย Expressย so you need to be very comfortable with Javascript.
The gist of this position is how good you are with reading through third-party APIs, handling and transforming large datasets with performance and scalability in mind, as well as the quality of the code you write.
Non-technical Expectations
Excellent communication skills (English) is a must.
We arenโt looking for someone with 25 years of experience, we are looking for smart people who are up for a challenge.
We are primarily in pacific timezone and we expect at least 5 hours of overlap (generally until 4pm pacific time)
You should have experience with at least a CRM, an analytics tool, or a MarTech tool of some kind.
We are a team of builders and people that don't shy away from responsibility. You are expected to own parts of the platform and improve it with your own ideas as well.

Mysten Labs believes that decentralized and open protocols are the bedrock of the internet of value. This is why at Mysten Labs, we are creating foundational infrastructure to accelerate the adoption of decentralized protocols based on blockchain technologies. We're building a new team, Interop, a systems-focused team that extends the Data Platform team's responsibilities to support a broader set of RPC and data-heavy services built on top of Sui. The Interop Layer provides systems support for the services that run on top of Sui, in all of their aspects of Sui interactions, state management, production reliability and release management. The Interop team would own horizontal systems that interface directly with the Sui network โ such as the Sui RPC nodes and support verticals that span teams including Cryptography, Move Platform, and Walrus by productionizing their externally-facing services. What You'll Have:* Have 5+ years of experience in hands-on software engineering, including methodologies to ensure correctness and performance of implemented components.\n* Be fluent in a systemsโ language such as Rust which is used within Mysten or C++ etc\n* Had a substantial role in the design and implementation of a large distributed system.\n* Have experience with the design and evaluation of secure systems, incl. secure programming, appropriate use of cryptography, and prevention of DoS attacks. \n* Be fluent in writing design documentation as well as participating in technical discussions and reviews synchronously, asynchronously, in person or remotely.\n* Have a level of expertise in one or more of networking, distributed systems, storage, databases, operating systems, and runtimes to be able to read research papers in the field and design systems based on them.\n* Have a lay personsโ interest in open, decentralized, permissionless technologies, and the intersection of contemporary technology, economics, finance and governance.\n* We especially encourage engineers that fulfill some of the above with no prior experience of working on blockchain technologies\n\nEmployment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check, which may include verification of employment history, education credentials, criminal history, and other relevant information.Regarding the recent rash of technology job scams: Be aware that emails from genuine Mysten Labs group recruiters will always come from the @mystenlabs.com domain or related subdomains (e.g., mystenlabs.com/careers). \nAbout Tinybird:\nAt Tinybird, we help developers and data teams take flight by unlocking the power of real-time data to quickly build data pipelines and innovative data products. With Tinybird, you can effortlessly ingest multiple data sources at scale, query and shape it using the 100% pure SQL you already know and love, and publish results as low-latency, high-concurrency APIs for your applications to chirp about. Developers can create fast APIs, fasterโwhat used to take hours and days now only takes minutes! Tinybird is the essential tool that data engineers and software developers have been waiting for enabling you to drive innovation with ease.\n\n\n\nWhat you will be doing: We are looking for someone to help us scale and to keep our software and infrastructure reliable and elastic as we scale. Someone who knows how to make hardware and software play together, and that participate as part of the oncall team, to understand not only our product, but also the issues our clients face.\n* โWe run our stack in Linux. We try to keep things simple. Technologies we use:\n* OpenResty: SSL termination and load balancing\n* Varnish: load balancing and, sometimes, caching\n* Redis: metadata store\n* Python: most of our backend uses Python except some small bits that rely on C++ for hot paths\n* ClickHouse: our main data store\n* Zookeeper: for ClickHouse replicas coordination\n* We use Grafana, Loki and Mimir for monitoring and alerting\n* Terraform: Cloud provisioning (virtual machines, networks, Kubernetes clusters)\n* Ansible: Deploys and software and config provisioning\n* Our number of machines is still manageable, but the number keeps growing as we keep adding customers. This is not about managing infrastructure but about making sure that our software uses the hardware resources wisely and flexibly. This means you will not only have to worry about automating machines, but about helping the product team to design and develop the architecture of the system as a whole. That will require you to work with our backend code and to understand how ClickHouse works.\n\n\n\n* Some challenges and things we want to improve:\n* High-availability and elasticity: as we keep adding customers, we need to architect our system to be more efficient and flexible\n* Observability: from specific resource usage to a bird's eye view of the whole platform. This requires good knowledge of storage, networking, and computing\n* Disaster recovery: improving our tooling to manage and discover problems, but also improving our on-call procedures\n* As a specific challenge: when our customers grow, we need to upgrade their accounts. Now, we do it manuallyโnot in the traditional sense of manual because we have tools that automate much of the process, but we need to take care of that one customer at a time: deciding what machines we need to spin-up, how much compute capacity we will provision, etc. Ideally, our architecture should allow our customers to upgrade themselves and assign more resources to them dynamically and seamlessly in the most dynamic, safe and transparent way possible.\n\n\n\nWhat you bring:\n* Experience designing, building and running distributed Cloud architectures and large scale web based applications. That is, in so many words, what you will be responsible for at Tinybird\n* Programming skills and willingness to dive into our codebase, ClickHouse source code, or any other software we use in order to figure out how things work. At Tinybird, we work mostly with Python and C++\n* Accountable and enthusiastic to take on the responsibility of designing and managing the platform, and an urge to take on things that may be broken. Unafraid to break stuff because you own it and can fix it if need be.\n* Bias for action, iteration and delivery. Conscious that often decisions can be reversed quickly and that speed is of the essence in business and technology\n* That you think in terms of systems and you are attuned to edge cases, failure modes, behaviors, specific implementations\n* Comfortable collaborating and communicating asynchronously, but expect direct communication within the team on a daily basis\n* Build software with empathy, ensuring it's intuitive and maintainable. Document key insights and solutions to make it easy for everyone to understand and use without needing extensive documentation\n* Experience with OpenResty, Varnish, Redis, Terraform or Ansible would be great for you to get up and running quickly, but we donโt bring you here to tell you what the right technologies are: rather we expect you to recommend the right one for each challenge\n* Experience with ClickHouse and/or rolling out database systems at scale would be a huge plus.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nโฌ62,000 - โฌ109,000 a yearThis role includes both cash compensation and a stock options grant. You can find our typical starting salary ranges for this role listed above. The final offer within this range will take into account several factors, including candidate experience, qualifications, skills, business needs, and geographical location.\nWe also offer:22 days of holiday a year (plus your birthday and public holidays).Comprehensive health benefits.Freedom to work from wherever suits you best.
