Basket is hiring a
Remote Senior Flutter Engineer

Overview

We are Basket (trybasket.com) – a fresh and exciting new approach to save, share and follow the things you love, and the people who love them too. Basket keeps you organised, up to date, and helps you buy better across all shopping categories.

To continue our growth we’re seeking a Senior Flutter Engineer located in London or Auckland. To excel in this role and have a positive impact on our customer success, you’ll need strong production experience with Flutter (preferably e-commerce), and a glowing track record building delightful mobile experiences. We have a separate backend team and Basket is already live in production, so your key focus will be scoping and building new features, and maintaining a kickass Flutter codebase for mobile. Some native work will be required in addition to Flutter, so experience with either Swift or Kotlin is essential.

To thrive at Basket, you’ll learn quickly, think big, and deliver rock-solid results in a fast-paced startup environment. You’ll balance safe decisions while proactively researching and running code experiments. You’re someone who embraces collaboration and feedback with open arms. You continuously look for ways to grow yourself, help teammates, and opportunities to make the products you work on stronger. This is a chance to join an innovative team where you will be challenged, and have significant input to shape a product we believe will become a global household name.

How We Work at Basket

At Basket, we work in 2 week development cycles with a clearly defined goal. We’re inspired by companies like Linear where quality work is more important than quantity of features released. We plan each cycle well ahead of time with team discussions, research and workshops to make sure we’re making informed decisions.

Here’s how our typical cycle looks

  • 2 weeks before a cycle we plan and define requirements for features

  • 1 week before a cycle we do technical due diligence and write acceptance criteria

  • During a cycle we write code using test-driven development, test code to development and staging environments, collaborate with QA, Design and PM team members to ensure features are production ready.

What You'll Do

  • Scope and agree technical requirements for features in collaboration with design, QA and PM team members

  • Write test-driven Flutter, Dart or Native code to implement feature requirements

  • Implement animations using Lottie, Rive and Flutter frameworks

  • Maintain and improve existing code with a focus on stability and performance

  • Use application monitoring tools to identify new opportunities and fix issues

  • Explore new opportunities and Flutter features to enhance our user experience

  • Take security seriously by implementing tools, code and practices that preserve the integrity of our services and protect customer data

About You

  • Native English is essential

  • Located in, or willing to relocate to London or Auckland

  • 5+ years experience writing production code for iOS (Swift) or Android (Kotlin).

  • Mastery of Flutter and Dart with at least one published app on iOS (App Store Connect) or Android (Play Store)

  • Excellent knowledge and experience of using Firebase SDK with Flutter

  • Experience integrating and using third-party packages with Flutter, iOS and Android

  • Keen eye for good design, and enjoy collaborating with designers to implement modern, intuitive and delightful customer experiences

  • Intuitively look for ways to keep code modular, efficient, and maintainable

  • Motivated by working in a team with a flat structure where your knowledge and input have a direct impact on product definition and business success

  • Excited to learn, share and step outside of your comfort zone

Good To Have

  • University degree in computer science, or equivalent experience

  • Experience working in a VC-backed startup environment

Our Culture

Our culture is built on respect, collaboration and a drive to shake up the world of shopping. We’re at the beginning of our journey with the opportunity for new team members to lead projects, and shape services that customers interact with daily. Our team members are conscientious, deep thinkers, always striving to be awesome human beings.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value a diversity of perspectives and backgrounds at our company. We are dedicated to a policy of nondiscrimination in employment on any basis including race, colour, age, sex, religion, disability, or national origin.

CompanyCam is hiring a
Remote Senior Mobile Developer

The Role

We’re looking for sharp, self-motivated, problem-solving Senior Mobile Developers to join our engineering team.

As a Senior Mobile Developer, you’ll work alongside other engineers, designers, and product managers to tackle everything from huge company initiatives to modest but important bug fixes, from start to finish. You’ll also collaborate with your product team on discovery, helping to assess the direction and feasibility of product changes.

Most importantly, you’ll actively contribute to the evolution of the culture and processes of a growing engineering team, especially our client engineering discipline (this is what we call the devs who work in React and React Native). We want want senior devs with opinions on patterns, code organization, and processes to help make sure our codebases scale healthily, and an interest in mentoring to help make sure our devs do too.

Working At CompanyCam

Our engineering team is remote-first, spanning every time zone in the United States. We welcome people from all backgrounds and really don't care whether or not you have a CS degree or even a high school diploma. All that matters is that you're not an a**hole and you're good at what you do.

Our Product and Engineering departments also do things a little differently than what you might be used to.

We use a customized version of Basecamp’s Shape Up method (fused with empowered product teams a la Marty Cagan's Inspired) to organize and execute our work. That means you’ll work in a close-knit team consisting of a product manager, a product designer, and other engineers on an area of the product in 3-week cycles.

During cycles you'll spend most of your time implementing product improvements, but you'll also work with your team shaping (generating and vetting) product improvements for next cycle. After each cycle your team will stop, reset, and decide to tackle another cycle or take a 1-3 week cool-down (a period of undirected work where you’ll pursue educational opportunities, work on pet projects, or smash some bugs that have been nagging at you). Rinse and repeat until code nirvana.

Wait, I think that cool-down thing deserves an extra call out: We build into our process 25% of an engineer's time for undirected work.

Sounds nice, right? No sprinting, no scrumming, no death by 1,000 meetings. We protect our engineers' time, treat them like adults, and trust them to get their work done. We’re also big on not overworking people. Put in your eight hours of focused, quality work and then TURN. SLACK. OFF. No nights and weekends.

Our larger company culture is also refreshingly chill. We have fun, learn from each other, and don’t take ourselves too seriously.

We cover the important stuff too. We pay well, offer unlimited vacationmeaningful equityhealth insurance, and other benefits.

And if I may (uncomfortably) toot our own horn for a second: our devs love working here! In this hyper-competitive software development job market, guess how many of our developers have chosen to leave in the last 2 years. Seriously, guess. Ready? ...One!

What We Ask Of You

Must-haves
These are our non-negotiables:

  • Show up: give us your best and have the courage to do difficult but necessary stuff.
  • Grow up: take responsibility, learn continuously, and have a growth mindset.
  • Do good: treat your co-workers and customers the way you want to be treated.
  • Strong experience with and knowledge of React Native or native iOS or Android experience paired with some React experience.
  • 5 or more years of experience working as a professional mobile developer. (Not all years of experience are created equal, so this one isn't set in stone, but for the sake of transparency, we've yet to come across someone with less than 5 years of experience that we would consider a senior developer.).
  • Reside permanently and currently somewhere in the U.S or Canada. Alas, we're not set up to hire outside of the U.S and Canada.

Nice-to-haves
Day to day, you’ll spend 90%+ of your time working in React Native, but, of course, that’s not all you’ll work with. While experience with the following technologies are not required (we’re cool with some on-the-job learning), you will see them with varying levels of frequency:

  • React (often)
  • GraphQL & REST (often)
  • Apollo & Redux (often)
  • Android Studio & Xcode (mainly to run the mobile app)
  • Java & Objective-C (approaching rarely, but we do have some native modules)
  • Ruby on Rails (just a touch)

We are not accepting applicants outside the U.S. and Canada at this time.

Please mention the word FAITHFULNESS when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RNDQuMTkyLjI2LjYw). This is a feature to avoid fake spam applicants. Companies can search these words to find applicants that read this and instantly see they're human.
