Close is hiring a
Remote Senior QA Engineer

About Us

Close is a bootstrapped, profitable, 100% remote, ~70 person team of thoughtful individuals who value autonomy and impact. We’re eager to make a product our customers fall in love with over and over again.

We ❤️ startups & SMBs. Since 2013, we’ve been building a CRM  that focuses on better communication, without the hassle of manual data entry or complex UI. Our goal: double the productivity of every sales rep.

Our app’s frontend is a single-page JavaScript/TypeScript web app mostly written in React. Our mobile app is built using React Native. Our backend tech stack consists of Python/Flask, MongoDB, Postgres, Elasticsearch, and Redis, and communicates with clients via our REST API & GraphQL endpoints. We run our services in Docker on AWS.

We care about performance, maintainability, and testability of our code. Writing unit/integration tests is embedded into our engineering culture. We test more complex features end-to-end via Cypress. We also house lists of manual test steps to follow for testing critical features like calling and composing emails. Our focus is on testing actual user behavior, leveraging the Testing Library approach.

Our product development process is inspired by Shape Up. We sweat the UI/UX details and work collaboratively with the Product team throughout the design process. We think about testing in the technical specification phase and we continuously spend time assuring we’re shipping a high-quality product.

We open source our code and ideas on our GitHub and on The Making of Close, our behind-the-scenes Product & Engineering blog. Check out our projects like TaskTiger and use-infinite-scroll or insights from our day-to-day work such as Rendering untrusted HTML email, safelyHow We Improved Reliability Of Our WebSocket Connections, and A Case Study in"Reactizing" a Complex Backbone View.

About You

We're looking for an experienced full-time individual to join us as the 1st QA Engineer on our team. Someone who has a solid understanding of web technologies and real world user behavior and wants to help test, QA, and launch major user-facing features. You'd enjoy an opportunity to lead the way on the QA front and help us establish best practices for testing/QA and help us improve the quality of our product.

You should have at least 4 years of experience with testing/QA of user-facing behavior. You have a brain for breaking things. You are detail-oriented and thorough when writing down test plans and when opening high-quality bug reports. You deeply care about the quality of a product and have a solid understanding of modern test automation frameworks like Cypress or Playwright.

You’re comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with a small and talented team where you're supported in your efforts to grow professionally. You are able to manage your time well, communicate effectively, and collaborate with a fully distributed team.

You are located in a non-west coast American, European or African time zone.

We are open to hiring mid, senior, and staff level QA Engineers for this role.

About the job

    • You’ll be reporting to our Sr. Frontend Engineering Manager and you’ll be working closely with the Frontend, Backend, Product Management, and Design teams.
    • Help us improve the quality of what we’re shipping, reducing amount of bugs/regressions.
    • Help us test features as they are being built/reviewed, and keep an eye on recently shipped code for potential issues.
    • Primarily you'll focus on testing/QA of user-facing behavior and creating high quality issues (bug reports) based on testing our in-product UI across web, desktop, and mobile.
    • Additionally you'll test against our API and consider ways our customers may hit issues in their integrations or with Zapier.
    • Help us improve how we’re doing automated testing (unit, E2E, etc.).
    • Help Dev teams find ways to improve their testing strategies.

Bonus points if you have...

    • Experience in contributing to tests in JavaScript via React Testing Library/Cypress/Playwright
    • Experience testing GraphQL and Websockets endpoints
    • Worked with B2B SaaS products
    • Experience with sales or sales tools

Come help us with projects like...

    • Modern Rich Text Editor with collaboration features
    • Workflow Automation
    • Web-based calling
    • Responsive mobile web & native mobile app

Why work with us?

    • Culture video 💚
    • 100% remote company (we believe in trust and autonomy)
    • Choose between working 5 days/wk (standard full-time) or 4 days/wk @ 80% pay
    • Annual team retreats ✈️
    • Quarterly virtual summits
    • 5 weeks PTO + Winter Holiday Break
    • 2 additional PTO days every year with the company
    • 1 month paid sabbatical every 5 years
    • Paid parental leave
    • Medical, Dental, Vision with HSA option (US residents)
    • 401k matching at 6% (US residents)
    • Dependent care FSA (US residents)
    • Contributor to Stripe's climate initiative 🌍❤️
    • Our story and team 🚀

Our values

    • Build a house you want to live in -- Examine long-term thinking and action
    • No BS -- Practice transparency and honesty, especially when it’s hard
    • Invest in each other -- Build successful relationships with your coworkers and customers
    • Discipline equals freedom -- Keep your word to yourself and others
    • Strive for greatness -- Constantly challenge yourself and others

How we work together

    • Productivity, Quality & Impact: We don’t track hours. We trust you’re an adult and know best how to prioritize, meet your goals and contribute at a high level.
    • Asynchronous communication & collaboration: We have team members all over the world. We don’t expect anyone to work untraditional hours, that means our default is async. Most teams have 2-5 hours of internal meetings weekly.
    • Appreciation for Deep Work: *During your normal work day, not after a day a meetings*.
    • Autonomy & Freedom: Create a work environment that is sustainable for you. We place a high amount of trust and responsibility with our team members from the start.
At Close, everyone has a voice. We encourage transparency and practice a mature approach to the work-place. In general, we don’t have strict policies, we have guidelines. Work/Life harmony is an important part of our business - we believe you bring your best to work when you practice self-care (whatever that looks like for you).

We come from 20+ countries located in 5 of the 7 continents. We’re a collection of talented humans, rich in diverse backgrounds, lifestyles, and cultures. Every year we meet up somewhere around the world to spend time with one another. These gatherings are an opportunity to strengthen the relationships within our global community.

Our team is growing in more ways than one - in the last few years, we've launched 24 babies (and counting!). Unanimously, our favorite and most impactful value is “Build a house you want to live in.” We strive to make decisions that are authentic for our people and help our customers become more successful.

Our application process was designed to promote equitable and unbiased hiring practices. We ask a small series of questions that are similar to what would be asked in the first interview. This helps us learn more about you right from the start so please be sure to answer each question thoughtfully. Each application will receive two screens by two different reviewers. Regardless of fit, you will hear back from us letting you know if we'll be moving forward.
Please mention the word FAVORITED when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RNDQuMjAxLjk0LjIzNg==). This is a feature to avoid fake spam applicants. Companies can search these words to find applicants that read this and instantly see they're human.

Jam.gg is a social and low tech-friendly cloud gaming platform. It has been designed to be accessible to everyone: available directly from a web browser, it does not require a high-speed internet connection to provide a seamless multiplayer game experience. Jam.gg is all about bringing people together through games, with a touch of childhood playfulness and creativity.

We are led by an experienced team of ex Google, Twitter, Amazon, Docker, EA, King and other top tech companies. Jam.gg is a YCombinator company and backed by top VC firms and LEGO Ventures and has already established itself as a new go-to platform for cloud gaming in some countries.

We're at the stage where we're scaling our QA Department as one of our key units. This is an incredible opportunity to join a booming company of 60+ people in its hyper growth phase. Driven by a strong inclusive culture, we welcome self-starting, fast learning, talented people wishing to start and manage unique, and challenging projects where collaboration (internal and external) is everything.

We are looking for a talented QA Tester to join our growing Product team.

Location: Entirely remote. The candidate must be based in Europe within +/- 2 hours of CET time zone.

Start date: As soon as possible

What you will be doing:

  • Testing part of our platform to identify, replicate and document bugs.
  • Collaborating with a Product squad to maintain a backlog of bugs and appropriately estimate their impact and prioritize their resolution.
  • Describe and investigate bugs, and collaborate with engineers in the squad to help solve them.
  • Work with fellow QA Testers to organize the processes and improve our QA operations.

What we are looking for:

  • 3-5 years of experience
  • Technical: a good ability to learn and understand technical products and work with engineers.
  • Communication: ability to communicate clearly and effectively, but also in a kind and respectful manner, to collaborate well with the rest of the team.
  • Organization: ability to help the QA team organize within QA operations (bug filing, prioritization), but also with other Product members (PMs, Designers, Engineers).
  • Proactive and willing to help the team scale.

Benefits:

For International and French permanent contracts:

  • Unlimited holiday leave (minimum 5 weeks).
  • Monthly well-being allowance (mental well-being, sports, massage, etc.).
  • Home office allowance calculated on the prorata of the days worked monthly.
  • Fully remote & flexible working hours.
  • Equal pay policy.
  • Equal maternity and paternity leave (18 weeks) with 1 year seniority and after deduction of the maternity and paternity leave regulations in your country.
  • Maternity/Paternity subsidy of 3k euros with 1 year seniority.
  • Stock option plan.
  • Health insurance compensation a one-to-one basis, depending on geographical location & company's policy.
  • Additional benefits depending on the geographical location.

We will be pleased to receive your application and wish you the best of luck.

Why Jam.gg?

At the heart of Jam.gg’s mission is the creation of a new way to share games with friends and family: a free online place for gamers to play and hangout together, with video cameras, bringing back the golden era of multiplayer couch gaming. In a world of constraining internet connections and paid services, we think differently: we are building a free, “low-tech” friendly platform for everyone to jump in, directly from their browser. Our platform is social by design and packed with fun games curated by our community. We want to create new virtual social spaces that fundamentally diverge from today's typical social networks, focusing a lot less on appearance and a lot more on experience. We are building a social gaming platform for gamers and for developers, opening new ways to interact with their community.

Our startup has been growing very quickly since the end of 2020, attracting more than 60 international talents from developers and social media experts to designers. In June 2021, we introduced our cloud gaming beta platform featuring 80+ licensed games, including titles from industry-renowned publishers such as Arc System Works, Interplay, Team 17, Coatsink and Data East. Our portfolio is rapidly evolving, with more than 25 free modern party titles arriving on the platform this year, from Overcooked to Blasphemous!

Discovered and supported by Y Combinator (Twitch, Reddit, Stripe, etc), our board of advisors include former SEGA CEO Kenji Matsubara, Zynga co-founders Justin Waldron and Tom Bollich, Crunchyroll’s Kun Gao, and Humble Bundle’s Jeffrey Rosen. Our last round was led by LEGO Ventures and top gaming VC firms.

To continue our growth we’re seeking a Senior Flutter Engineer located in London or Auckland. To excel in this role and have a positive impact on our customer success, you’ll need strong production experience with Flutter (preferably e-commerce), and a glowing track record building delightful mobile experiences. We have a separate backend team and Basket is already live in production, so your key focus will be scoping and building new features, and maintaining a kickass Flutter codebase for mobile. Some native work will be required in addition to Flutter, so experience with either Swift or Kotlin is essential.

To thrive at Basket, you’ll learn quickly, think big, and deliver rock-solid results in a fast-paced startup environment. You’ll balance safe decisions while proactively researching and running code experiments. You’re someone who embraces collaboration and feedback with open arms. You continuously look for ways to grow yourself, help teammates, and opportunities to make the products you work on stronger. This is a chance to join an innovative team where you will be challenged, and have significant input to shape a product we believe will become a global household name.

How We Work at Basket

At Basket, we work in 2 week development cycles with a clearly defined goal. We’re inspired by companies like Linear where quality work is more important than quantity of features released. We plan each cycle well ahead of time with team discussions, research and workshops to make sure we’re making informed decisions.

Here’s how our typical cycle looks

  • 2 weeks before a cycle we plan and define requirements for features

  • 1 week before a cycle we do technical due diligence and write acceptance criteria

  • During a cycle we write code using test-driven development, test code to development and staging environments, collaborate with QA, Design and PM team members to ensure features are production ready.

What You'll Do

  • Scope and agree technical requirements for features in collaboration with design, QA and PM team members

  • Write test-driven Flutter, Dart or Native code to implement feature requirements

  • Implement animations using Lottie, Rive and Flutter frameworks

  • Maintain and improve existing code with a focus on stability and performance

  • Use application monitoring tools to identify new opportunities and fix issues

  • Explore new opportunities and Flutter features to enhance our user experience

  • Take security seriously by implementing tools, code and practices that preserve the integrity of our services and protect customer data

About You

  • Native English is essential

  • Located in, or willing to relocate to London or Auckland

  • 5+ years experience writing production code for iOS (Swift) or Android (Kotlin).

  • Mastery of Flutter and Dart with at least one published app on iOS (App Store Connect) or Android (Play Store)

  • Excellent knowledge and experience of using Firebase SDK with Flutter

  • Experience integrating and using third-party packages with Flutter, iOS and Android

  • Keen eye for good design, and enjoy collaborating with designers to implement modern, intuitive and delightful customer experiences

  • Intuitively look for ways to keep code modular, efficient, and maintainable

  • Motivated by working in a team with a flat structure where your knowledge and input have a direct impact on product definition and business success

  • Excited to learn, share and step outside of your comfort zone

Good To Have

  • University degree in computer science, or equivalent experience

  • Experience working in a VC-backed startup environment

Our Culture

Our culture is built on respect, collaboration and a drive to shake up the world of shopping. We’re at the beginning of our journey with the opportunity for new team members to lead projects, and shape services that customers interact with daily. Our team members are conscientious, deep thinkers, always striving to be awesome human beings.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value a diversity of perspectives and backgrounds at our company. We are dedicated to a policy of nondiscrimination in employment on any basis including race, colour, age, sex, religion, disability, or national origin.

Are you a talented web developer who loves WordPress? And do you get excited about building new features that will be used by millions of pet lovers every month? Then this could very well be the opportunity for you!

We’re Pangolia—one of the fastest-growing pet companies, and we’re on a mission to create the biggest, most helpful pet company in the world. Our biggest sites: PetKeen.com, Hepper.com, and ExcitedCats.com, are visited by millions of pet lovers every month, and we’re undergoing rapid growth.

Our sites are all built on WordPress, and our own cat furniture e-commerce brand: Hepper is running on WooCommerce. In this position you will be working alongside our Lead Developer on building new features and tools that help pet lovers all over the world.

We’re a 100% remote company so you’d have the freedom to work from anywhere. It's a full-time position (40 hours a week), yet you get to plan your own schedule and work whenever you want. You will become an integral member of our team at Pangolia consisting of a diverse group of 95 talented individuals from all over the world, joining us on our united goal of improving the lives of pets and those who care for them.

This is a great opportunity if you’re an amazing developer looking to rapidly grow your skills whilst working alongside peers who are at the top of their field.

You Will Be Responsible For:

Developing new tools and software that help millions of pet lovers every month (could for example be to develop a Puppy Weight Chart Tool / Calculator that helps pet owners predict how fast, and how big their dog will grow)

Developing, testing, and maintaining new features and solutions for our WordPress sites for desktop and mobile browsers that are optimized for high traffic

Optimize our websites for mobile users

Create, review, and update technical documentation

Contributing to our development processes, QA procedures, and technical planning

Communicating and supporting our content and marketing departments with dev/IT requests, troubleshooting, fixing bugs

Performing scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance and security updates on our WordPress sites

Securing and protecting our WordPress sites from hackers and malware, as well as eliminating risks

Ensuring that our servers and content delivery network (CDN) are stable enough to handle millions of users

       Improve our team’s IT infrastructure

Keep apprised of relevant new technology and best practices

You are expected to have:

  • Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery

Experience with PHP (7.4/8) and object-oriented programming (OOP)

Experience with MySQL and managing databases

Experience with WordPress development (eg themes, hooks, filters, plugin API, etc)

Experience with build tools like Webpack or ViteJS

Experience with Composer and basic understanding of autoloading, dependency management, and dependency injection

Experience with SSH and comfortable with basic terminal usage

       Experience with Git (and GitHub)

       Experience with TailwindCSS & PostCSS

Troubleshooting abilities (ie include finding CSS and JavaScript conflicts using browser developer tools, navigating codebases in theme and plugins, and determining whether a plugin or theme code could be causing a code conflict)

The ability to take a project on your own and get it done before the deadline

The ability to communicate well as we work remote (most of our communication is written in Slack with occasional calls)

It would be nice if you have:

       Experience creating custom Elementor widgets

Experience with Docker and DDev.com for local development

Experience with WP CLI, WP REST API, and WP cron jobs

       Experience with CDNs/Cloudflare

       Experience with unit testing

Good understanding of website architecture, aesthetics and UI/UX best practices

Understanding of basic principles behind technical SEO and performance optimization

We would appreciate it if you could work with PHPStorm so that we can use their collaborative features and have some consistency in our development processes. However, if you prefer and work better with another IDE or coding tool, that's fine! Either way, we will pay for your license.

Type of person we would love for this role

       You’re a dependable, friendly communicator

You’re passionate about solving problems with smart and elegant programming solutions. Your code is clean, understandable, and well commented

You’re a self-starter who loves taking initiative and seeing things through to completion.

You have the curiosity and desire to learn and grow your skills and discover new modern practices and follow the latest trends in WordPress

You take pride in the quality and craftsmanship of your work rather than just doing it to get it done but you are also able to balance it with not overdoing your work and being able to move and work fast

You’re able to juggle around and work on different projects and side tasks on a weekly basis. While we wish we could focus on one thing for weeks at a time to make it perfect, that’s often not the reality in a competitive market.

Benefits/Perks

Work from anywhere (we’re 100% remote)

Flexible work hours, you get to plan your own schedule and work whenever you want

       Developer Growth.

You work with modern practices and you gain valuable experience with high-traffic sites

We value self-improvement. We cover expenses for books and work-related courses

We're open to changes, you have a voice in how things get done

Your monthly pay is paid biweekly (You’re paid every two weeks)

We'll pay for all your software needs that relate to your work (IDE/Coding tools, SnagIt, VPN, etc.). Usually, we provide license (serial) keys.

We cover 100% of your home internet bill.

We encourage you to find a working environment that suits your needs the best if working from home every single day isn’t for you.

We’ll cover monthly membership and/or day passes for co-working spaces

We’ll cover all your coffee purchases for the day in coffee shops

We give you a day off for your birthday! You get to stay in bed or hang with loved ones.

       Paid company retreats

21 days of paid time off every year

Your work with a great, talented team that produces a high-growth work environment (we move fast)

Opportunity to move up in the company, and earn higher pay and bonuses

A typical workweek (example)

Every Monday, we have a one-on-one Zoom meeting to discuss our goals, whether you are meeting your goals, what went well, what did not go well, and so on.

You have one or multiple projects to complete. You can work on them whenever and however you want without being micromanaged. However, you must be able to meet the deadline and be accountable for the quality of the end solution.

You’re also responsible for maintaining the Github repository of the project you’re working on, committing/pushing/documenting your changes, commenting on your code, and writing SOPs or technical documentation (if necessary). It doesn’t have to be pages long and can be very short and concise. But, as a developer, it makes life so much easier if you can return to your code in the future without having to think too hard about what you did. This is also about being considerate of your teammates' time.

There must be some overlap in our working hours so you can respond to urgent requests (if any) or chat with your manager or any of our departments on demand if they have an IT question. This means that some extra tasks may arise during the week.

You might have a day where one of our team members needs something urgent and needs it done the same or the next day, which can be valuable to the company, or a major issue needs to be fixed ASAP, in which case you might have to drop what you're working on and work on that or troubleshoot the entire day. If your main project's deadline cannot be met because of this (which is understandable), you should be able to communicate this on time.

However, most of the time you are able to work on your main projects in solitary. We understand that developers need complete focus. You can also chat and ask questions in our Slack channels.

You might get stuck in programming and need help, or some development processes may need to be explained. If it cannot be explained/resolved via chat or video, screen-sharing calls can be scheduled throughout the week.

The team (and our work culture)

You’ll get to be part of a 100% remote company consisting of a diverse group of 95 talented individuals from all over the world. The people you will find on the team are veterinarians, marketers, content writers, editors, social media managers, graphics designers, content managers, and a lot more.

And you’ll get to join us on our united mission of improving the lives of pets and those who care for them. We dream big, and our vision is to become the biggest, most helpful pet company in the world.

You’ll get to be part of a company that’s undergoing hyper-growth, and the fast-paced work environment that comes with it.

And we’ve managed to grow at a healthy pace without ever sacrificing our culture and values.

Our company culture is focused on work and collaboration, but also while being open to the casual humor and chatter that makes us get to know each other.

We work hard, and you may have to work on the weekend every now and then if you have a lot on your plate. However, we have a huge understanding of the importance of time off, and we encourage each other to take time off.

A lot of us love traveling, and therefore, we plan on doing yearly company retreats, where we all meet up together and have fun.

We value the freedom of being able to work from anywhere, trust, and collaboration.

  • Between 2-3 years of experience

The Opportunity

Bitcoin is reaching new all-time highs, but the real crypto revolution hasn't even begun. Distributed ledger technology has the potential to radically change the infrastructure of the global economy – from banking to payments, from trading to saving and investing. These deep changes will be coming over the next decade, and Nash wants to be the company that shapes the new blockchain-based financial space.

Our technology is already leading the industry. You can help us shape our growth trajectory and achieve our goal.

This role is remote, but for this specific position we are looking for a candidate based in Europe, South or North America.

With bank accounts, DeFi-powered earnings and crypto trading all in one app, Nash bridges the gap between traditional and decentralized finance. Newcomers can access real crypto services in an app that feels just like the digital banking platforms they know. Experts can enjoy market-leading rates, next-gen wallet security and the convenience of one app for all their crypto needs.

What is the job?

Looking for challenging responsibilities in the most promising tech industry? Join us as the first QA Automation Engineer (in this particular product team) in the crypto financial industry, and you will get the most out of using new technologies and test methods.

You will accelerate your career and constantly improve technically by tackling these issues and being able to utilize the personal £2000/year budget for learning & development.

You will challenge all user scenarios and test cases to investigate all possibilities of failure across a range of Web apps, and API applications. You will make sure that happy path scenarios function as advertised, and that a massive array of potential error conditions all fail gracefully, predictably and in a meaningful way to end users.

During your first few months, you will start by defining the tools and frameworks required to have a complete suite of automated tests. This will involve diving into the applications features and functionality, rolling up your sleeves doing manual testing. With a better understanding under your belt, you will define test plans that can be  automated and cover UI and API testing, as well as testing failures in any of the subsystems, including databases, third-party services or other internal services.

What are we looking for?

  • You enjoy automating everything, the thought of repeating tasks manually makes you shiver, but you understand the need to do exploratory manual testing to create test plans.

  • You have experience testing Web apps, APIs applications in a fast delivering growth environment.

  • You are a hands-on, independent product tester with experience working in a multidisciplinary team formed of designers, Front and Backend developers and DevOps.

  • You’re patient when dealing with others. You’re a good listener, and happy to be a teacher when needed.

What skills do you need?

  • You have solid demonstrable experience as a QA Automation Engineer doing end-to-end testing.

  • You love breaking things and let your creativity go wild (e.g. functional and black-box testing, regression testing, system integration testing, load testing, manual testing).

  • You are proficient in at least one programming/scripting language such as Python, C#, Java or JavaScript.

  • Experience with BDD, TDD, or contract testing.

  • Docker and Git experience is important.

  • You have good knowledge and understanding of CI/CD cycles and integration test automation with CI/CD.

Who are we?

At RDX Works, we’re a team of like-minded thinkers who have long been convinced that we’re living in the earliest stages of a global financial revolution. This revolution is being fuelled by decentralized finance (or DeFi for short), which is enabling an assortment of pioneering developers and entrepreneurs to re-invent almost every financial product that is currently traded and invested in traditional markets, without requiring central authorities or siloed infrastructure. DeFi has captured a great deal of attention and investment in the crypto-aware niche, growing assets under management from $1 billion to over $200  billion in a few years. Impressive as its growth has been, its current market size isn’t even a rounding error on the over $400 trillion held in traditional finance. We’re focused on what it will take to go from billions to trillions.

RDX went back to first principles to come up with the right technical solution—the first layer-one protocol built specifically for mainstream DeFi—and we have already tested out at over 1 million transactions per second. We’re keenly aware that the need for an infinitely scalable platform is only one prerequisite among many for mass adoption, and we’re also blazing new ground in the areas of purpose-built developer tools, user experiences, and regulatory integration.

We have forged a path deep into the future of what distributed ledger technology is going to look like and we need you to come and be part of the team that is making that happen right now.

If this job sounds like it was made for you, then please apply directly via the link or email [email protected] for more information.

Check out our company benefits here - RDX Works Benefits

Alternatively, if you feel like you don’t match all of the requirements, we would love you to still apply anyway. We understand that confidence gaps and imposter syndrome can get in the way of meeting incredible candidates and we wouldn’t want this to prevent us from meeting you; especially as we are big advocates of helping people learn & grow. This is also another reason we do not advertise salaries, we want to keep it as even a playing field as possible!
