Bonfire is hiring a
Remote Senior Front End Engineer

This contractor role is only open to candidates located in European time zones.

The front-end engineer plays a pivotal role in fostering collaboration between product design and engineering teams at Bonfire. This role combines the expertise of a front-end engineer with a solid understanding of UX and design principles.

Their primary focus revolves around developing and maintaining UI components using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript. Their ultimate aim is to bridge the gap between the design system crafted in digital design tools like Figma and the actual UI components utilized by both frontend and backend engineers. Collaborating closely with engineers, designers, and product managers, they contribute to defining and delivering new features, translating concepts into interactive prototypes, and refining interactions, animations, and finer details to craft a delightful user experience. Additionally, they assist in executing experiments using AB testing tools.

The Front End Engineer is committed to advancing the companyโ€™s vision, mission, values, and strategy by enhancing both customer and employee experiences through tools that streamline interactions with and for Bonfire. This role is dedicated to creating tools that are not only user-friendly but also align with the companyโ€™s culture and foster a sense of community among team members.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

include but are not limited to:

  • Build out UI components for new features & improvements utilizing semantic and accessible HTML, CSS & Javascript
  • Maintain & scale the design system components & style guide in Angular/HTML/CSS
  • Promote the value & adoption of the design system throughout the organization
  • Collaborate with product designers to ensure a proper design system implementation in code
  • Develop & launch experiments written in frontend technologies using tools for AB testing
  • Participate in daily standups, planing, refinement and retrospective meetings
  • Participate in engineering & design meetings
  • Perform code tests & collaborate with QA during testing and debugging of new features & improvements
  • Liaise with other members of the engineering team to seek improvements to Bonfireโ€™s codebase
  • Ensure that Bonfireโ€™s front end UI components match accessibility best practices as defined in WCAG

About the Position

We're seeking a talented UX Engineer who is passionate about crafting seamless user experiences and is excited to take ownership of our design system from an engineering perspective. About You

  • Every Monday, we have a one-on-one Zoom meeting to discuss our goals, whether you are meeting your goals, what went well, what did not go well, and so on.

  • What will you manage?

Each teammate receives a role within a small team per cycle that can include a handful of small projects, one large project, or staying outside of the cycle to support the team. Additionally, youโ€™ll be responsible for ensuring adherence to programming and documentation policies, code standards, testing, release, and reporting updates on your projects.

  • What will you contribute to?

You will contribute to code reviews, generating projects for each cycle, feedback for ideas (including the ideas for other areas of the company), and hiring new teammates in the Product Team.

  • What will you support?

Outside of generally supporting your teammates in the Product Circle, Rebilly is an open environment where everyone is welcome in every area of the company. You are welcome to support any project you feel called to participate in.

  • How much support per project?

Teams working in a cycle can be 1, 2, or sometimes 4 people. You will lean on your cycle teammates to support the completion of the cycle, as well as receive support from teammates supporting the cycle.ย

About You

We're looking for an experienced full-time Frontend Engineering Manager to join our engineering team and build & lead the 3rd Frontend team. You should be an empathetic leader, have spent part of your career as a senior-level engineer, and want to help build & grow a team of high-performing engineers.

You should have senior-level (4 years+) experience building modern frontend applications, preferably using React or similar framework.

Position Overview

We're scouting for a dedicated Backend Software Developer with a core expertise in .NET. While the role zeroes in on backend development, a knack for Frontend and familiarity with Angular will be viewed as a valuable asset. You'll be instrumental in fortifying our platform, ensuring its seamless functionality and adaptability to the evolving needs of our users. The features you will help us build are frequently world-firsts.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable .NET code for backend or frontend development.
  • Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications.
  • Work with a young development team with a lot of freedom and drive.
  • Collaborate with our designer to build the next world-leading features in this area.
  • Close collaboration with the other developers in your team: Pair Programming and Code Reviews

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Backend Software Developer with a strong focus on .NET.

UX Engineer with a Passion for Investing

Variant Perception is a small investment team creating research and insights for sophisticated investors. We are known for building predictive models with innovative techniques. Our investment process is based on first principles thinking with empirical verification. We study history to understand how financial markets work and build systematic models using these insights.

We are looking for a UX Engineer to perfect our user interface. We need someone who can empathise with investors, understand their ideal workflow, and implement improvements: from UI components to cloud functions. Formal experience in finance is helpful but a passion for investing is key.

Your role on the team

  1. You will begin by implementing features and improvements relating to user preferences, recommendations, and user interactions. Our โ€œresearch portalโ€ is implemented in Typescript, Nextjs, and uses Firebase/GCP services extensively.

  2. You will have a critical influence on style and design. Good design means usability, simplicity, and elegance. Investing is already hard enough. We want to remove cognitive load from users and create intuitive interactions that provide them with actionable insights.

  3. Our quant team builds dashboards and web apps that cater to specific investor needs. The apps are embedded in the research portal. You will help design and productionize these apps.

  4. Our end goal is to build natural language interfaces for our data, charts, and research insights. You will be a key contributor to this effort, alongside our data engineering team.

  5. Ultimately, we want someone entrepreneurial to take ownership of the client facing product and help us build a better investing platform.
