At LaunchBrightly, we are on a mission to automate a process that continually captures and enhances screenshots of all your SaaS product features. The continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipeline and process that engineers adopted over the last decade, is what we ultimately want to build for customer support teams. TLDR; LaunchBrightly = CircleCI for customer support. And we are currently looking to bring onboard a strong Process Automation Specialist.ย

Everyone at LaunchBrightly is a creator, an owner, or perhaps better, a celebration of the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. Most big companies are afraid of entrusting the future of the company and their software to a few makers, and as they defend against that, they end up with three layers of managers and a product designed by a committee. We want the opposite. We need the opposite as we enter virgin territory trying to build that CI/CD pipeline and process for the support organization. As our customer pushes a new feature to production, we automatically update all product images within the help center. This is a thrilling adventure

Our work is remote, not distant. We believe that being a remote-first organization allows us to build an exceptional team composed of makers and sellers with diverse backgrounds and skill sets from around the globe. Our default work culture is asynchronous and emphasizes written communication to prioritize maker time, focus and company productivity. Our goal is not to eliminate face-to-face interaction, but we should default to a setting where written documentation is so strong that a meeting on most project subject matters would seem odd.ย ย

Founded in 2022, and backed by prominent venture firms including IA Ventures, Tuesday Capital, and B Capital Group, this is a unique opportunity to join this band of misfits on the ground floor. As an early teammate you will be working intimately with the founding team, who has done 0 to 1 five times over while seeing four of them come to an exit.

The Process Automation Specialist will become an integral member of an intimate 7-person team consisting of:

  • Maker #6 (Process Automation Specialist, You!)

  • Maker #5 (Michel, Frontend Engineer / Implementation Specialist)

  • Maker #4 (Lucas, Frontend Engineer)

  • Maker #3 (Jose, Fullstack Engineer)

  • Maker #2 (Hyder, Backend Engineer)

  • Maker #1 (Dennis, Founder)

  • Seller #1 (Josh, Co-founder)

  • Helper #1 (Vibeke)

However, we are looking not just for a strong Process Automation Specialist but, rather, a teammate we see as integral to LaunchBrightlyโ€™s long-term journey and vital to our success. Someone who is comfortable in the dark and who sees a certain romance, like we do, in embracing the unknowns that come with being on the startup journey. We have a track record of seeing those colleagues who join us on the ground floor of our ventures ride the startup journey to completion (exit) with us, as we grow and become successful together. This is something we take seriously, and something we are extremely proud of!ย

Salary

Salary: $30,000 USD a year + Up to $3,000 USD Bonusย

Job Description

This role will be fully concentrated on creating Screenshot Automation Recipes for customer implementations, using the current V1.0 of our Screenshot Recipe Builder (our primary customer implementation tool).ย

Your primary role will be to focus on customer implementations. However, this is not a customer-facing role and will not require you to directly interact with customers. Rather the role will see you creating many hundreds of Screenshot Automation recipes on customer implementations each month. But we are also super eager to design an overall product experience that is tech forward, and one that non-technical knowledge managers and technical writers will love and easily be able to use. Your work will be crucial in helping us better the current implementation process, and helping to propel us to a place that allows non-technical users, on implementation specifically, to be able to self-serve.

In addition to helping our customers be successful by creating automation recipes for the many hundreds of existing, static images our customers have in their help center, you will also help extend the current V1. of our Screenshot Recipe Builder, along the following tracks:

  • Analyze feedback from users, and identify inefficiencies as you set up recipes to suggest areas of improvement

  • Product QA to identify bugs, inconsistencies and other issues with the implementation experience (you will be using the Browser Console, custom scripts to manipulate the DOM, and our Product Screenshots and Help Center Sync API as QA tools; Postman will be your best friend for a while)

  • Translating your research and QA activities into detailed and well documented engineering tickets, allowing Engineering team member to easily pick up these tickets and have a head start on engineering solutions

  • Providing input on product design, and mini-mocks, to enhance the implementation experienceย

We are looking for previous experience working with

  • Strong understanding of HTML, CSS and the DOM (and being able to manipulate elements at will in the console)

  • Knowledge of JS and an ability to write QA scripts as needed

  • API experience, and specifically work in Postman; Consuming and commenting on internal APIs

What you bring to the table

  • A customer-first mentality, with an instinct to imagine how users will react and interact

  • Strong and precise communication and documentation skills, with a will to understand and be understood

  • The personal organization skills and patience to manage multiple contexts as projects and features come together. A good Process Automation Specialist can do things like: juggle and monitor open Git tickets and enhancements being worked on by the Engineering team, keep zero inbox, write notes for themselves to keep their small tasks straight, whip up shell scripts/test data to automate repetitive tasks

  • A passion for being part of the startup journey and taking ownership of the companyโ€™s success

  • A willingness to take initiative and enthusiasm to make an impact and take action

  • Thrives in a highly collaborative environment and enthusiasm for being a team player

Bonus point if you

  • Prior experience working in front-end development is a big plus

  • Some prior experience applying PM experience or understanding, having worked a side-gig or built something from 0-1 on your own is a big plus

  • Previous experience identifying and documenting bugs, and providing detailed reports to development teams for resolution (think a QA Engineer)

  • Are someone technically-minded, and who derives satisfaction from producing a genuinely useful product that improves the lives of others

What we offer

  • Flexible working hours and locations. Your success is measured on outcomes

  • A culture of NO meetings where maker time and productivity is prioritized

  • Excellent start-up culture with openness and inclusiveness

  • True ownership and autonomy over your role and the impact on the company

  • Prioritization of focus time and productivityย

  • Your choice of technical setup and equipment

  • Experienced founders with many years of successfully building product across multiple ventures

  • Annual meetup as a team in New York City

Job Description

This particular role is a bit unique as your work is initially fully concentrated on setting up Screenshot Automation Recipes for customer implementations, using the current V1.0 of our Screenshot Recipe Builder (our primary customer implementation tool).ย

We are super eager to design an overall product experience that is tech forward, but non-technical knowledge managers and technical writers will love and easily be able to use. Your work will be crucial in helping us better the current implementation process, and propelling us to a place that allows non-technical users, on implementation specifically, to be able to self-serve.ย

This initial phase, fully concentrated on customer implementations, will see you setting up many hundreds of Screenshot Automation Recipes over the next N months and will involve a combination of testing, analysis, and continuous improvement to enhance the implementation experience. You will help extend the current V1.0 of our Screenshot Recipe Builder, along the following tracks:

  • Analyze feedback from users, evaluate comments from your fellow Engineering team members, and most of all spot inefficiencies as you set up recipes, to identify areas of improvement

  • Product QA to identify bugs, inconsistencies and other issues with the implementation experience (you will be using the Browser Console, custom scripts to manipulate the DOM, and our Product Screenshots and Help Center Sync API as QA tools; Postman will be your best friend for a while)

  • Translating your research and QA activities into detailed and well documented engineering tickets, allowing your fellow Engineering team member to easily pick up these tickets and have a head start on engineering solutions

  • Providing input on product design, and mini-mocks, to enhance the implementation experienceย

The success of your initial concentration on setting up Screenshot Automation Recipes will be measured on whether non-technical users become able to self-serve. We could imagine the current V1.0 of our Screenshot Recipe Builder experience being elevated to the next level, and providing a superior self-serve experience for our non-technical users within 6 months.ย

On successfully helping us take the implementation experience to this next level, through our shared good work on setting up recipes, you will move to become a full-time Jr. Frontend Engineer as a Maker alongside Jose, Lucas and Hyder. With a unique and intimate experience of the user experience having walked in their shoes setting up many hundreds of automation recipes.ย

And we are currently looking to bring onboard a strong Front-End Engineer (Vue SPA / Tailwind).ย

This is a thrilling adventure!

The Front-End Engineer will become an integral member of an intimate 6-person team consisting of:

  • Maker #4 (Frontend Engineer, You!)

  • Maker #3 (Jose, Frontend/Extensions Engineer)

  • Maker #2 (Hyder, Backend Engineer)

  • Maker #1 (Dennis, Founder)

  • Seller #1 (Josh, Co-founder)

  • Helper #1 (Vibeke)

However, we are looking not just for an Engineer but, rather, a teammate we see as integral to LaunchBrightlyโ€™s long-term journey and vital to our success.

Job Description

You will actively help take the current MVP to a V1 so tech savvy, but non-technical knowledge managers and technical writers have a product experience they will love to use. You and Jose are the initial and primary customers of our internal Screenshotting and Styling API, and your feedback is crucial to help elevate it in the mission of making our App better.ย

You will help extend the initial MVP feature set and expand along the following tracks (not exhaustive and mostly illustrative):

  • Build new interesting onboarding flows, so that we make an elaborate process as easy to digest as possibleย

  • Build interfaces to provide a smooth setup path to embed our live screenshots on customer destinations

  • Build an easy-to-use (and near fail-proof) Syncing flow for the help center platforms we integrate with

  • Build and help imagine Sync Notifications emails and Dashboards, which are the precursors to actual live Sync

  • Build Sync action pages and associated Analytics Dashboards

  • Help expand our Cloud Browser which makes it as easy as possible for our customers to identify an element inside their web app and tag it for automated screenshotting

A large part of our success hinges on us being able to adopt many of the technical CI/CD wonders from engineering and leveraging them via non-technical user interfaces. So your job is also one of the artful craft in tuning a form, button, dropdown, sort, filter and label, to the degree one would not need to on other B2B applications - and we are not shy to apply a fair amount of B2C glitter to achieve this.ย

Once an image is extracted, cleaned, enhanced and styled it is uploaded to our CDN and our customer can use it manually from here. Weโ€™ll also offer native integrations that allow them to sync images automatically. However, we assume there is a real need to allow access to the live images in different environments; a plugin/extension for e.g. Zendesk, to see Support folks easily reply to a ticket with a linked image, is a likely path of ours.ย

We are looking for previous experience working with

  • Building production-level B2B Web Apps (using Jest/Vitest for unit testing)

  • Vue 3 SPA (JS/TypeScript)

  • Tailwind CSS (HeadlessUI)

  • Plain vanilla CSS for the more sexy UI Elements we might implement.ย

  • Applying a UI/UX focus to your development including UX research

  • Consuming and commenting on internal APIs

  • DynamoDB, GraphQL

  • Analytics/Event tagging for research

What you bring to the table

  • Minimum 3 years of industry experience in front-end development

  • A developer who derives satisfaction from producing a genuinely useful product that improves the lives of others

  • A customer-first mentality, with an instinct to imagine how users will react and interact

  • Strong and precise communication and documentation skills, with a will to understand and be understood

  • Prides themselves on writing highly readable, thoroughly tested code

  • The personal organization skills and patience to manage multiple contexts as projects and features come together. A good dev can do things like: juggle tickets and Git branches, keep zero inbox, write notes for themselves to keep their small tasks straight, whip up shell scripts/test data to automate repetitive tasks

  • A passion for being part of the startup journey and taking ownership of the companyโ€™s success

  • A willingness to take initiative and enthusiasm to make an impact and take action

  • Thrives in a highly collaborative environment and enthusiasm for being a team player

Bonus point if you

  • We use Tailwind UI, but having implemented prior Design Systems and generally having a superior eye for design is a big plus.ย

  • Built Apps on the AWS Amplify (Serverless Design) framework, which is the primary backdrop for our App.ย ย

What we offer

  • Flexible working hours and locations. Your success is measured on outcomes.ย

  • Annual meetup as a team in New York City. *We have our first NYC off-site from October 23-27, 2023 and would love for you to join us!

Josh Peacockย (COO and Co-founder)

We are likely to run multiple tests until we find the best fit.ย

  • Allow for easy cleansing, as in, the way for the customer to tell us what elements we should remove from a page before a screenshot is taken. An interface to help enhance the output, whether that be injecting HTML elements or allowing them to draw directly on the output (in a way that can be formatted and saved through our API). Finally, a suite affording various styling options, as streamlined as tools like Canva, all the way to animations that help explain a feature. • Maker #3 (Frontend Engineer, to be hired)

  • Seller #1 (Josh, Co-founder)

We have a track record of seeing those colleagues who join us on the ground floor of our ventures ride the startup journey to completion (exit) with us, as we grow and become successful together. This is something we take seriously, and something we are extremely proud of!ย

Job Description

You will be responsible for taking the current MVP version of the Screenshotting and Styling API, architecting a more robust backdrop and designing something other programmers will love to use. The initial customer will be our own App, as a calmer start, but we do want to open up the API to more sophisticated customers who would like to control our screenshotting process more intimately themselves. You will extend the initial MVP feature set to include a pool of new functions:ย

  • Functions that allow us to extract more finely-tuned images from pages, with ever more exotic settings (in a very delicate dance with Puppeteer).ย ย

  • Functions that help clean up any page, such as removing or modifying elements. This feature set will evolve and you might even build an internal tool, so a team-member (Helper) can go add and manage this list.ย

  • Functions that enhance our output, whether that be injecting elements or running custom JS on the chromium browser instance, or even manipulating raw images post-extraction. Could be text added to input boxes, or squares and arrows pointing to important things on the image.ย

  • A suite of functionality to allow the customer to Style the output, from simple shadows, to headers, to watermarks, and more.

Our infrastructure is set up and managed using AWS Amplify and we embrace a fully serverless environment, which (to a large degree) removes infrastructure as a task. Sure, youโ€™ll probably do some cloudformation overrides on Amplify, but that should be it until we hire somebody to take this on. You are a backend API engineer first and foremost.

Once an image is extracted, cleaned, enhanced and styled, it is stored on our CDN (AWS Cloudfront) and our customer can use it manually from here. However we are excited to write a set of integrations that allow them to sync images automatically to help desks like Zendesk and Intercom, and as time allows, engineer other integrations as any product feature image in a help desk, should ultimately be something our platform could manage.ย

We are looking for previous experience working with

  • Building APIsย

  • Serverless (Node.js)ย

  • Puppeteer (running chromium on AWS Lambda)

  • Canvas implementations in Node.js for styling and image manipulation in general.ย ย

  • AWS API Gateway

  • AWS Amplify for infrastructure setup

  • DynamoDB

  • GraphQL

What you bring to the table

  • A BS or MS in Computer Science or similar, with software development as a focus

  • Minimum 3 years of industry experience in backend developmentย

  • Pride in writing highly readable, thoroughly tested and reliable code that others can easily jump into

  • Strong and precise communication and documentation skills, with a real eagerness to understand and be understood

  • A customer-first mentality and passion for understanding and solving customer problems, both present and future

  • Joy in producing a useful product that improves the lives of others

  • A genuine interest in the startup journey

  • A willingness to take initiative and enthusiasm to make an impact and take action

Bonus point if you

  • Have previous exposure to dev ops responsibilities on AWS. We are trying to overcome this chore through serverless setups, but having a friend who can also go through a set of logs on Cloudwatch to find a bug is nice

What we offer

  • Flexible working hours and locations. Your success is measured on outcomes.ย

  • Excellent start-up culture with openness and inclusiveness

  • True ownership and autonomy over your role and the impact on the company

  • Prioritization of focus time and productivityย
