โ Itโs also a great way to see what itโs like to work with us and help support folks who may not have the โright titleโ but have the experience and technical know-how for the role.
๐ฉโ๐ญ How we work:
We believe that thereโs a better balance between the poles of freelancing & full time, and for that reason Sanctuary works differently to most shops:
Transparency & Ownership:ย We release out Profit & Loss statements to the community each year, open source our best ideas, and talk business & money with everyone in the company. Weโre proud to run our business with integrity, and for that reason we share everything with our team & community.
**Strong Morals:** Since our founding, we've turned down somewhere between $1mm - $2mm of work that didn't meet our moral standards. (Most of that was DTC brands that can't show a valid sustainability initiative).
Async & Decentralized: We use tools optimized for calm, thoughtful communication, and opt for async whenever possible. We fight hard to maintain our focus time.
Remote Friendly:ย Our company is fluent in remote work, making our workplace more decentralized, and democratized in the process.
Ideas & Products:ย In our spare studio time, we work to build our own open source or internal products to diversify & bolster our income. We create amazing technology products for our clients, so why not for the studio?

We started Loancrate to make home-buying simpler and less expensive for lenders and borrowers (us!). Today, mortgage lenders are stuck running their companies on software products built 20 years ago. These products are slow, unstable and donโt lead to material improvements in efficiency. When using these systems, the average human cost to originate a loan is still over $11,000.
Loancrate builds AI native tooling to automate mortgage workflows. Our ultimate goal is fully automated origination, which has the potential to save lenders over $16B in operating expense per year.
Since starting in 2020, our remote team has enabled our customers to power >$85 billion in new home loans. We are a group of people excited to tackle the complexity of the home-lending industry. We care about collaboration, very open communication covering the good & the bad so that we learn from our decisions quickly, and ultimately having fun while we're building. You'll fit in well if you like diving deep quickly!
The Opportunity
Our dreams are big and we have much to build! We're looking for senior software engineers to help lead our team in powering the future of home buying in the US (which could entail managing a majority of US home loans every year โ financial assets worth trillions of dollars).
We are excited to offer competitive salary and equity for this role.
What To Expect
As an engineer at Loancrate, you'll continue our team tradition by shipping code to production on your first day! Following that, within your first month, you'll dive into your first mission-critical project, such as...
๐ Architecting, building, and launching complex, multi-step AI agents that our customers use to digitize their ops workflows and save millions of dollars per year.
๐ค Integrating with 3rd-party providers of lending services APIs to generate documents/disclosures, produce automated underwriting results, or prevent fraud.
๐ Architecting, building, and launching the next generation of our job processing infrastructure on AWS to make Loancrate's back end more observable and reliable.
Tech Stack
Nearly all of our code is written in TypeScript. We use React on the frontend, Node/Express on the backend (running inside Docker), GraphQL/Apollo on both sides, and Postgres as our database. We use AWS (ECS, RDS, ElastiCache, Kafka, ElasticSearch, and more) and manage all of our infrastructure with Terraform.
We believe that high engineering velocity drives high product velocity (and, in turn, our success as a company ๐). Keeping this in mind, we've invested heavily in creating a great developer experience that enables engineers to ship fast. Some highlights of our stack:
โ๏ธ End-to-End Type Safety - We generate TypeScript types from our Postgres and GraphQL schemas so that when we change our database schema we see type errors in any incompatible frontend React components.
๐ Full-Stack Code Sharing - Our build tooling supports seamless sharing of TypeScript files between the client, server, and other packages in our mono-repo so that we never have to define functions or configuration values twice.
๐ Reproducible Infrastructure - Weโve used Terraform to manage 100% of our infrastructure since day 1 and have configured our CI pipeline to automatically deploy temporary staging environments for every pull request. We use these per-PR environments to get feedback from teammates and test any infrastructure changes using infrastructure that's identical to production.
๐งช First Class Testing Utilities - We have a comprehensive library of utilities that mock production-like data and feed automated end-to-end, integration, and performance tests. Our wide-ranging test suite allows us to move fast while maintaining nearly perfect uptime.
Preferred Skills and Background
(It's okay not to have all of these things - these are just some skills we are excited about!)
๐ค Familiarity with modern AI product development lifecycles (evals, experiment design, dataset curation, etc). We donโt just build AI chat bots. We wrangle non-deterministic LLMs into reliable mission-critical systems.
๐ A constant and keen eye for security risks โ we store and display some of people's most sensitive personal data and need to keep it safe!
๐จ A desire to be product-oriented, from thinking through the product implications of what you're building to contributing your unique ideas of how to improve the product.
๐๏ธ Ability to develop readable, maintainable, and effective software architecture patterns that support use of our product by various enterprise customers (each with thousands of employees and their own methods for running their companies).
๐ฉโ๐ซ๐จโ๐ซ Excitement to mentor less senior engineers in both hard and soft skills.
๐ SRE-oriented mindset for developing infrastructure that's reliable, observable, and requires minimal toil to maintain.
๐ฉ๏ธ Experience scaling high-throughput distributed systems in the cloud. Bonus points if you're experienced with infrastructure-as-code solutions like Terraform or CloudFormation!
๐ง Ability to develop full-stack web app features from design through deployment.
๐ข๏ธ Experience designing and scaling complex relational DB schemas, as well as figuring out performant ways to store, retrieve, and update such data. Home loans have thousands of data fields ๐.

\nAt Trunk, our mission is to help teams create high-quality software quickly. Merge conflicts, poor code quality or consistency, flaky tests, and dozens of other distractions quickly drain the productivity and morale of those teams. Engineering teams that can stay focused on designing, implementing, and delivering software will build magical, high-quality projects - and they will be happier doing it. We're building the tools that empower teams to land code faster and develop happier.\n\n\nWe are building the foundation for a modern software engineering team. Our founders started this journey in 2021 and have designed, delivered, and scaled software at some of the world's largest and fastest-growing tech companies - Uber, Google, YouTube, and Microsoft. We're building a game-changing company, and we hope you are excited to be a part of that audacious goal.\n\n\nSoftware has eaten the world; almost every company produces software in some form or fashion, so our addressable market is virtually every company on earth. \nFlow is a layer one blockchain designed from the ground up as a platform for a new generation of Web3 apps, games, and the digital assets that power them. Flow is home today to millions of users and apps from top tier creators including Genies, Cryptoys, Doodles, and Dapper Labs (NBA, NFL, Disney) as well as industry leaders such as Mattel (Barbie, Hot Wheels), LiveNation / Ticketmaster, and many more.\n\n\nWe're looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to help us build the best decentralized computer in the world, and make it ready for mainstream web3 adoption with 1M transactions processed per second and petabytes of non-sharded on-chain state.\n\n\nIn this role you will be working on the core components of Flow protocol, contributing to evolving itโs architecture and design to improve performance, scalability and reliability, ensure autonomous operation and interoperability with wider web3 ecosystem. Flow Execution node is the CPU of Flow - it is responsible for execution of a purpose-designed programming language for writing smart contracts - Cadence. It also stores the on-chain state and generates proofs for verifying correctness of the execution.\n\n\nAs the ideal candidate you are interested in and passionate about pushing the boundaries in development of high-performance decentralized permissionless systems development, working with a fully remote, global team and on open-source software.\n\n\nYou are comfortable with solving ambiguous problems in a rapidly evolving environment and can pivot quickly when necessary. You understand the value of clear, well-tested, documented, easily maintainable and performant code. You understand that working on a high-availability product needs quick problem-solving when things donโt go as planned. You appreciate direct communication.\n\n\n\nWhat we will accomplish together:\n* Build an innovative blockchain as the foundation for an entire ecosystem of consumer applications, starting with games, collectibles, and the apps that interact with them\n* Defy accepted wisdom on the scalability of blockchain platforms\n* Design, develop, and deploy new systems that enhance throughput, latency, availability, and security\n* Maintain, improve and optimize existing systems\n* Support Flow network operations and incidents\n* Ensure that our work is ethical and values-driven to create a positive impact on the world \n\n\n\nAbout you:\n* You are capable of applying your skills across a variety of use cases\n* We believe in processes and the power of planning, but you will often have to roll with the punches and prioritize the most impactful tasks on the fly\n* Experience with distributed systems, scalability, and algorithm engineering experience, preferably in Golang\n* Experienced in building a path to successful delivery from situations with high technical ambiguity, including writing Software Design proposals and building consensus with key stakeholders\n* Experience with building scalable solutions in a resource-constrained environment, performance optimization and profiling\n* Ability to maintain and operate high-availability service\n* Experience with web3 ecosystem and smart contract development\n* Enjoys and understands the nuances of working with a developer community in public\n* Knowledge of byzantine-fault-tolerant system design\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFlow is a remote-first team of seasoned technologists dedicated to our mission of mainstream Web3 adoption. Founded in Vancouver, Canada, Flowโs team is now spread primarily across the US and Canada โ with small presences in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Less than 6 months from now, Flow delivers Crescendo, its biggest technical upgrade since launching the network. Included in the Crescendo release is Cadence 1.0, a major upgrade of the Cadence programming language which enables fully immutable smart contracts on Flow; as well as full EVM equivalence, allowing Flow to host EVM-based smart contracts, platforms, tooling, and utilities natively and fully composable with the Cadence environments. With Crescendo, Flow will be as easy to deploy onto as any EVM-based Layer 2, while preserving the full capabilities of the rest of the protocol. Crescendo upgrade will catalyze a massive improvement in liquidity on Flow including on- and off-ramps as well as a native DeFi ecosystem that serves as a liquidity backbone for the entire network.\n\n\nAt Flow Foundation, we prioritize recruiting top talent and cultivating an empowering environment for our team. This entails fostering a workplace that is characterized by diversity, inclusivity, and open-mindedness. We enthusiastically welcome applicants from all walks of life, regardless of race, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or disability. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n
