We're bringing on talented data scientists to help us develop and improve the models that power DoorDash's three-sided marketplace of consumers, merchants, and dashers.\nAbout the Role\n\nDoorDash users use the DoorDash app in two modes: 1) to search for specific dishes and products, restaurants, grocery or convenience stores when they have something in mind; 2) to discover new dishes and products for delivery when they do not have something specific in mind. Both use cases are very important to our users. As a recommendation and search-focused Machine Learning Scientist you will have the opportunity to identify and prioritize machine learning investments to address both of these use cases. You will leverage our robust data and infrastructure to develop models that impact millions of users across our three audiences. You will partner with an engineering lead and product manager to set the strategy that moves the business metrics which help us grow our business. In this role, you will be expected to demonstrate a strong command of production level machine learning, a passion for solving end-user problems, leadership skills to collaborate well with multi-disciplinary teams, and execution focus to prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment.\nYouโre excited about this opportunity because you willโฆ\n\n\nLead the effort for query understanding: Applying active learning, semi-supervised learning, query embedding, product and merchant embedding, entity extraction and canonicalization to improve understanding of the consumerโs intent as expressed by search query.\n\nDrive the personalization for search and recommendation: Building models to understand userโs preferences for merchant segments, product categories, dish categories, dietary preferences, etc., furthermore the personalization based on these learned preferences, and addressing the potentially significant cold start problem. \n\nExtend the search and recommendation platform from the merchant level to the item level: At the item level, the candidate set is billions in size instead of millions at the merchant level. This 1,000x increase in candidate set makes the problem much more challenging and exciting. Role Description:
As a Dropbox intern, you are part of a top-notch learning experience with data scientists from all backgrounds. You will become a subject matter expert for a particular business unit (Growth, Core File Sync and Share, Hellosign, etc.) and analyze Dropbox data to deliver highly actionable insights that drive product decisions and revenue wins. Youโll work side-by-side with a dedicated, experienced Dropboxer as your mentor. You can expect to learn how to apply modern data science principles across our revenue, marketing and product teams and receive regular and effective feedback on your work. Responsibilities:
Develop a deep understanding of customer journey phases and key business metrics
Perform analytical deep-dives to analyze problems and opportunities, identify the hypothesis and design & execute experiments
Identify key trends and build executive-facing dashboards to track the progress of acquisition, monetization, and engagement trends.
Extract actionable insights through analyzing large, complex, multi-dimensional customer behavior data sets
Translate complex concepts into implications for the business via excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Work with cross-functional teams (including Data Science, Marketing, Product, Engineering, Design, and User Research) to rapidly execute and iterate
Requirements:
2024 graduate pursuing degree in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
Able to work independently and proactively engage with business stakeholders
Experience with analyzing unstructured datasets using tools like SQL/Python/ R
Working knowledge of probability and statistics. Applied experience in experimentation design, A/B testing and/or probabilistic modeling a plus.
Strong verbal and written communication skills
