Remote Director of Business Development

\nAbout The Role\n\n\nYard Stick is looking for a Director of Business Development to help us fight climate change with soil.\nTo date, two-ish people have done the bulk of Yard Stickโ€™s customer discovery, business development, commercial strategy-setting, and selling: Chris Tolles (CEO)  and Kelsey Chan (Head of Growth + Partnerships). To accomplish our ambitious climate impact and commercial revenue goals, Yard Stick must transition from being primarily a founder-led sales effort to one with dedicated team members and expertise 100% focused on growing the companyโ€™s top line. We have demonstrated incredible early traction and are ready to accelerate our efforts to win more and bigger contracts for work in our wheelhouse, namely soil C stock quantification on row crop and grazing agricultural soils in the US. \n\n\nWeโ€™re looking for a biz dev powerhouse to build on our existing foundation and take commercial growth to the next level. This person will get inside the heads and hearts of our customers, build trust with prospects (often over months and longer!), iterate on our marketing/messaging for maximum resonance, craft home-run proposals, and generally sell the shit out of our offering.\n\n\nThis role must both be the type to knock down a door driving toward a signed contract, and be incredibly curious and empathetic in the way they collaborate with other Yard Stick stakeholders, both external and internal. It will start as a 100% IC role with potential to grow into a team lead for the right person, but the most compelling candidate must be thrilled if it doesnโ€™t become a management role for even a few years.\n\n\nThis full-time remote role will report to Kelsey Chan, starting ASAP in 2025. Scientists and farmers alike know that climate-friendly agricultural practices have the potential to remove atmospheric CO2 at gigaton/year scale. When these practices are adopted, more carbon is stored in soils, improving soil health and fighting climate change. The Learning and Development Professional will support the creation and execution of talent development activities in a newly forming department focused on developing the leaders and employees of the organization. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and grow with a new team that is introducing learning and development opportunities to help people reach their career goals and coach them along their journey. Job Responsibilities


  • Support the department senior director in coordinating with key stakeholders across the organization for various talent development programs
  • Provide analytical support, research and knowledge management for various talent development and training activities, to include leadership development programs, succession planning processes, coaching, mentoring, internships, and assessments
  • Develop and manage project plans for key projects and programs within the talent development portfolio
  • Support instructor-led training and facilitation of virtual and live meetings/training sessions on various topics
  • Support the development of training presentations, PowerPoint presentations, summary reports
  • Assist in execution of training, which includes administration and tracking of required training, such as compliance and ethics modules
  • Coordinate with external vendors for online training platforms and tools
  • Perform research to identify external speakers, seminars, trainings, and partnerships to enhance existing training and development portfolio
  • Support the development and delivery of training materials as needed, including presentations, user guides, instructor guides, communications, and job aids
  • Coordinate training and talent development program logistics and communicate with participants as needed
  • Monitor key success measures to include feedback surveys, engagement surveys, and other talent development metrics to include data analysis
  • Create a knowledge repository of training content, library of templates and career resources for employees
  • Leverage tools and technology such as Power BI, Microsoft Forms, Microsoft Teams and learning management systems


Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:


  • You must be able to meet all health requirements, including but not limited to, current and future vaccination requirements for infectious diseases such as COVID-19.
  • Must have a minimum of 4 years professional talent development, organizational effectiveness and/or leadership training experience (Required)
  • Must have a minimum of a Bachelorโ€™s Degree in: Business Administration, Communications, Human Resources Management, Organizational Development, or other related area (Required)
  • Must have experience in training and talent development
  • Must have strong facilitation, communications presentation skills both in person and virtually
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills (including PowerPoint and training content creation)

  • Must have the ability to travel occasionally (up to 20-25%)

Once theyโ€™re hired, weโ€™ll make sure you get paid.*\n\n## Summary/Objective\n\nThe Migration Advisor uses various methods for transferring online businesses over from the seller to the buyer and understands the integral parts of each business. The person in this role will deal with problems that arise on the fly and guide our buyers and sellers through the migration process, finding solutions to their unique problems and ensuring customers leave happy with our process.\n\n## Essential Functions\n\n* Consult with buyers and sellers to answer questions on how we go about transferring their business and provide support throughout the entire migration process.\n* Manage multiple migration workflows; determining priorities with multiple migrations as well as assisting our migration specialists when they have concerns and conflicts within each individual migration.\n* Renegotiate with both parties when issues arise.\n* Ensure businesses are working as is and make sure both parties have fulfilled their needs on each side.\n* Assist buyers and sellers who are new and may require more support through the entire process.\n* Ensure assets are performing to the level they were sold at, and that they are moved over to the new owner in a successful manner.\n* Handle earn-out payments between the same monetization methods; deem and dictate schedules and payouts;\n* Handle other duties as assigned.\n\n## Competencies\n\n* Communication Proficiency: Youโ€™re a problem solver. Selling a business is an intimate experience for most entrepreneurs, especially if it is the first business someone is selling or buying. This means you will face obstacles and challenges in transitioning the business. It will be up to you to make sure those challenges are met head-on and solved.\n * Ability to learn technical processes: You will be working in the backend of our buyers and sellers businesses. We have detailed processes for each of our tasks and it will be your responsibility to ensure these processes are adhered to in each migration. You will need to get comfortable with platforms such as Seller Central, WordPress, Shopify, Stripe, and many more.\n* Interpersonal Skills: You genuinely enjoy forming meaningful relationships with other people, and your sense of humor can produce a smile even in tense situations. Others inherently trust you because of your authentic disposition.\n* Detail-oriented and organized with your priorities: You have a curiosity when a process is slowing down unexpectedly and use investigative skills to address the issue.\n\n## Position Type/Expected Hours of Work\n\nThis is a full-time position.
