\nMercury is changing how startups bank*. Weโre a financial technology company that helps startups spend less time banking and more time building their companies. In 2023, we grew transaction volume by 90% to $95B total and we have even larger ambitions. In April we announced expansion into personal banking, in May we announced new products to help finance teams do their daily work, and we have more coming this year.\n\nIn the late 1990s, Ethan Zuckerman, a programmer and designer for Tripod.com invented the โpop-up ad.โ Zuckerman used JavaScript to open another window on a web page, which allowed him to launch ads in separate windows. Zuckerman has since apologized. \n\n30 years later, digital advertising has gotten more sophisticated, more productive, and we hope, much less annoying. In our view, beautiful advertising, crafted with care, and designed for performance can be a surprising, refreshing, and even pleasant experience for prospective customers. \n\nWe believe in our product and we want to deliver it to the right people, at the right time, through performance digital marketing channels and everywhere else that founders, entrepreneurs, and growing companies are. \nWhat we're looking for\n\n\nDo you remember the thrill and further delight that you got from solving your first problems by programming a solution to them? The feeling you got when you saw it was working? We want to deliver that to our users when they start their business, but in a very streamlined and straightforward interface. We want to create the infrastructure that allows business owners to launch their company seamlessly. And also operate it hassle-free while keeping it compliant. Today, the infrastructure and services are at our hands to build these software layers, but we need a great engineer to help us deliver on this promise.\n\n\nYou'll build and maintain our backend apps: our Admin Panel, our API, and several other services that form part of our automation, that creates companies, connects with banking APIs, and the IRS (Internal Revenue Service), using technologies like NodeJS, DynamoDB, and Puppeteer.\n\n\n\nWhat you will do\n* You'll work with others to build new product features from start to finish: through conception, research, implementation, and maintenance. For example, you might create an internal micro-service to recognize specific legal documents coming back to us from a particular state (e.g., Wyoming).\n* You'll help improve performance and reliability or polish existing features. For example, you might make it easier to select different add-ons on the user sign-up flow that picks their final order.\n* You'll build internal tools to support simplicity and productivity for the whole team. Internal tools might include writing a microservice to help our customer experience team to be able to remove or add extra services to a company's account.\n\n\n\nWho you are\n* Thoughtful problem-solving: For you, problem-solving starts with a clear and accurate understanding of the context. You can decompose tricky problems and work towards a clean solution, by yourself or with teammates. You're comfortable asking for help when you get stuck.\n* Familiarity with our backend: You understand how parts of a system fit togetherโfrom the user interface to the data model. Experienced candidates should be familiar with relational and document-oriented database systems like DynamoDB and MongoDB. If you've experienced the technical challenges of rapid growth, that's a plus.\n* Pragmatic and business-oriented: You care about the business impact of what you're building, and you prioritize projects accordingly. You're not just going after cool stuffโyou understand the balance between craft, speed, and the bottom line.\n* Put users first: You think critically about the implications of what you're building and how it shapes real people's lives. You understand that reach comes with responsibility for our impactโgood and bad.\n* Not ideological about technology: To you, technologies and programming languages are about tradeoffs. You may be opinionated, but you're not ideological and can learn new technologies as you go.\n* Empathetic communication: You communicate nuanced ideas clearly, whether you're explaining technical decisions in writing or brainstorming in real-time. In disagreements, you engage thoughtfully with other perspectives and compromise when needed.\n* Team player: You understand when work is better, together. You enjoy collaborating cross-functionally to accomplish shared goals, and you care about learning, growing, and helping others to do the same.\n\n\n\nBonus points\n* You're proficient with any part of our technology stack: Node.js, Puppeteer, DynamoDB, Serverless.\n* You've heard of computing pioneers like Ada Lovelace, Douglas Engelbart, Alan Kay, Martin Fowler, and othersโand understand why we love their foundational work.\n* You have interests outside of technology, such as in art, history, or social sciences.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout doola\n\n\ndoola is building the OS for the next generation of online businesses.
