These come equipped with a washer/dryer and kitchen, and they provide unique opportunities for people to explore new cities.\n\n**About the Role**\n\nBarsala is looking for a product-focused engineer that can implement creative solutions across a variety of products, and build world class technology for our guests and building partners.\n\n**What You'll Do:**\n\n* Build key components of the Barsala platform: \n * A world-class hotel suite of guest applications that empowers them to take full advantage of their stays\n * Includes our web platform, mobile app, checkin form, and the API that powers all of them\n * Smart home and building IoT integrations for a next generation hospitality experience\n * Identity verification and improvements to our fraud detection services\n * Applications for our building owners to help manage and improve their experience with Barsala\n* Collaborate with stakeholders across the world to drive teams towards high impact\n* Help us grow our new team by interviewing and recruiting new engineers\n* Develop a culture of high ownership, innovation, empathy, and collaboration\n* Make investments in engineering reliability, productivity, and excellence\n\n**Why you might be excited about us**\n* Weโre building the future of travel. # Senior Software Engineer (Full Stack)\n\n## Simple Poll\n\nFull Time โ Remote\n\n\n# About Simple Poll\n\n- Simple Poll brings polls and surveys natively into Slack. Learn more about the product on [https://simplepoll.rocks](https://simplepoll.rocks)\n- Wilhelm created Simple Poll in early 2016 to improve his own workflow when working in Slack. Started as a side project and then grew up to be a real company!\n- Simple Poll is one of the most popular apps for Slack and over the course of a year serves millions of users. As a member of the engineering team, you will be able to directly impact the experience of all of those users.\n- We are a fairly early stage company with a small and growing team. We're profitable, bootstrapped (no external investment) and very much plan to stay that way!\n\nBecause weโre such a small team, you will be able to have a massive impact. Not just on Simple Poll the product and its millions of users but also on the company, our culture, and our day to day collaboration. \n\nFrom an engineering perspective Simple Poll can often feel similar to building an API. Slack apps work largely by receiving JSON payloads from Slack, making API calls to the Slack API, and then returning some JSON back to Slack. As such, our engineering work tends to be very backend-heavy and although we do have a web dashboard, writing HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is more rare.\n\nIn our day to day work we face an interesting set of evolving engineering and product challenges:\n\n- One such challenge is dealing creatively with the constraints of the Slack platform. Since Simple Poll exists almost entirely within Slack, we are bound by many of the constraints and extension capabilities of the Slack platform, such as the block kit framework ([https://api.slack.com/block-kit](https://api.slack.com/block-kit)). A powerful set of tools is available to us, but the path to bringing a feature to life is sometimes not as straightforward as it seems.\n- We also constantly face trade offs between making Simple Poll more powerful (and implementing a long list of customer feature requests) while simultaneously maintaining and improving the simplicity that out customers love. Finding a good balance is important here and often we find that there is a way to achieve both capability and simplicity.\n- Slack is also constantly evolving and it is our responsibility to keep up with this evolution to ensure that Simple Poll works no matter what Slack context users find themselves in. Recent wide-reaching changes have been the introduction of Slack Enterprise Grid (multiple Slack workspace under the same umbrella) and Slack Connect (shared channels between different Slack workspaces). These changes make it more challenging to model Slack entities like users and channels โ if youโre curious to learn more about this problem, check out this blog post: [https://wilhelmklopp.com/posts/slack-database-modelling/](https://wilhelmklopp.com/posts/slack-database-modelling/)\n\n### Remote\n\nWe are remote-first with folks across Canada, the UK, and Germany ๐ ย We love and embrace remote working (and have done so even in pre-pandemic times). But especially as the pandemic winds down and more travel opens up, we plan to regularly get everyone together for a one-week company offsite, probably twice a year. Our last company offsite took us to Toronto in Canada ๐\n\n# The ideal candidate\n\n- Excellent verbal and written communication skills\n- A high degree of empathy\n- 3+ years of experience working on production web applications written primarily in Python\n- Experience with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS\n- You care about the product as well as the code\n- You enjoy picking up new skills and are always learning and growing\n- You have an ability to think critically and pragmatically about designing systems and building features\n- You enjoy shipping and getting things done\n\n# Responsibilities\n\n- Write, review, deploy, and maintain code in mostly Python (back end) and HTML/CSS/JavaScript (front end)\n- Collaborate with the rest of the team on defining and implementing new features and coordinate to prioritise engineering work\n- Debug production issues and implement corresponding fixes\n- Take ownership of parts of the codebase\n- Document the systems you help build, monitor, and maintain\n- Evaluate and recommend solutions to guide team decision making\n- Improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes\n- Rotating responsibilities for on-call\n\n## You Might Work On\n\n- Architecting and implementing new features. Some of the things coming up on our roadmap are blind polls, ranked polls, exports to google sheets, and many more!\n- UX Improvements to make Simple Poll *simpler* and more flexible\n- Performance improvements to make Simple Poll faster\n- Improving reliability, which could for example entail setting up a new Datadog dashboard\n- Work with a designer to build a new page in our frontend and then implement that page based on their design\n- Something completely different! As an early stage company, we tend to be pretty "all hands on deck" when something comes up that we need to get done\n- Use and provide feedback on [Kolo](https://kolo.app). A local Django development tool that weโve been building\n\n# Practicals and benefits\n\n- You will report directly to the CEO (Wilhelm)\n- This is a fully remote, full time (40 hours per week) position. Your primary timezone must be between UTC-5 and UTC+2 (inclusive on both ends) to ensure we have enough overlap as a team\n- We'll buy you a new MacBook Pro and any other tools you need to do your best work (screens, accessories, etc.)\n- 30 days of holiday a year (including local national holidays), and you're encouraged to take all of it. You're also free to take additional time off for any other reasonable reasons, for example if you're sick (of course!) but also if you need to spend an afternoon taking care of something personal.\n- Sustainable and healthy working matters to us. We care about building delightful products for our customers, not hitting arbitrary daily hour counts.\n- The start date for this role is January or February 2022\n\n## Our principles\n\n*Inspired (often straight up copied) by the [Zen of GitHub](https://warpspire.com/posts/taste) and the [Zen of Python](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zen_of_Python)*\n\nExplicit is better than implicit\n\nSimple is better than complex\n\nFavor focus over features\n\nAnything added dilutes everything else\n\nMind your words, they are important\n\nCraft the details, they matter\n\nShip early and often\n\nNever miss an opportunity to delight\n\nBuild for the long term\n\nUse what you build with pride\n\nCreate lasting value for customers\n\nMistakes are possible when moving fast\n\nEmpower with courtesy and empathy\n\n## Our tech stack\n\n- Python + Django\n- PostgresQL\n- Heroku\n- Amazon Web Services\n- GitHub\n- HTML, Tailwind CSS, Vanilla JavaScript\n- Slack, Datadog, Zoom, Gmail, Google Calendar, Notion\n- Our own products! (including https://kolo.app)\n\n# How to apply\n\n[Apply via this form](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSerhXiCMolv2Y1dLodNvaRJu9eT-FCZ2LUgdrDwZtlDg2R0zw/viewform?usp=pp_url&entry.2062135242=Full-stack)\n\nHave any questions? If youโre any good at Ruby, this is probably not the first job ad youโve seen, so weโve done our best to stand out while also accurately presenting what weโre all about. If it sounds like you would enjoy working with us, donโt hesitate to apply or drop us a line with questions on [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).\n\nAhum. Here it comes.\n\n# Whatโs a Silverfin?\n\nAt Silverfin weโre trying to apply the promise of software to the age-old industry of accounting. With our SaaS weโre automating a large chunk of the busy-work that accountants are currently handling manually, and are building new tools so they can provide better services to their customers. We aim to optimize their workflow in such a way that accountants can spend more time on the much more impactful and rewarding work of advising their customers, the business owners.\n\nThe good news is weโre succeeding in doing exactly that. Every day more than 15.000 financial service professionals use Silverfin to help and advise more than 200.000 businesses. Our customers adore us! The even better news is thereโs still plenty left to work on, and thatโs where we hope you come in.\n\n# What makes the engineering team at Silverfin special?\n\nWeโre a remote-first engineering team of 25 people distributed in 14 different countries. A priority for us is maintaining proper work-life balance. We avoid meetings as much as possible, accept deadlines only when absolutely necessary, and never expect anyone to work longer hours than theyโve signed up for. A day in our working lives is pretty boring in this regard, and we feel thatโs exactly how it should be.\n\nWorking with us means you can be flexible with your schedule. Itโs OK to disappear for a few hours in the middle of the day to run some errands, get a haircut, pick up the kids โ whatever reason, you donโt need to explain yourself. You also fully decide when you take time off: our team is sufficiently varied and well organized that there are always enough people around to handle the load, and in the rare cases itโs not, we will decrease the load instead of asking people to move their holiday.\n\nBeing remote-first means we favor asynchronous communication. We donโt shy away from chatting in Slack, but the important decisions or discussions are done in Gitlab issues, over email, or in our wiki, so thereโs a written, persisted record. Weโre mindful of maintaining long chunks of focussed time, which means we avoid @-mentions or PMs on Slack, and other triggers and interrupts. We encourage using Slackโs DnD function, especially when youโre not working!\n\nWeโd be really happy to welcome you in our #dev channel, but itโs not just virtual: we make sure we regularly get to see each other in real life too. Twice a year we fly the whole engineering team together to a different location in Europe, and at least once a year we join up with the rest of the company so we can spend some time together with the other departments.\n\n\n# What does working at Silverfin look like?\n\nWe work in nimble teams around 5 people in size, with each team taking ownership of a specific set of features of the application. Teams are responsible for a full slice across the stack, so both the backend as well as the frontend of each part is maintained by the same people. Find here more information about our engineering teams.ย \n\nYouโll be supported by our UI designer who develops and maintains HTML and CSS components into a reusable UI-framework, and even builds Vue.js prototypes where necessary, handling compatibility problems with different browsers for you, and making sure everything is responsive as well.\n\nOur ops team ensures things run smoothly, deploys happen correctly, and will work with you when issues should arise. Weโre enthusiastic followers of the devops mindset, which means ops and developers work together to solve problems, and empower each-other to be self-sufficient, instead of throwing problems over the wall to the โother sideโ.\n\nOur stack is Vue.js and vanilla JS with a sprinkling of jQuery on the frontend and an up-to-date Rails monolith on the backend. We use PostgreSQL and Redis for persistence and caching, and everything is running on a Kubernetes cluster in Google Cloud. Our daily tools include GitLab, Quip and Slack, with Zoom as our remote conferencing tool of choice.\n\nNo code gets deployed without a code-review by a peer and testing is a must. Our pipeline automates deployment when the suite is green, and deploys happen dozens of times a day. Each team is currently doing Kanban, but theyโre free to follow whatever process suits them best. There are regular retros held to work towards continuous improvement.\n\nSoftware for accountants is not considered to be very exciting, but we have our fair share of technical challenges. To give you a sense of scale: our database exceeds 7TB*, and our largest table recently crossed the 10 billion row mark. We interface with more than 30 different external APIs, and provide third parties an API of our own.\n\n*: Our ops team noted that this actually isnโt that hard to achieve if youโre just indexing everything, but it still sounds impressive, right?\n\n# What does your future look like?\n\nPersonal growth is key to staying motivated. At Silverfin you donโt need to move to management in order to get promoted. We see the individual contributor track and the management track as two different growth paths which every engineer can follow and switch between. You can be promoted, including pay raises, as a contributor just like as a manager.\n\nEveryone has a โฌ1000 yearly budget to spend on conferences, courses, workshops or other training to improve their skills and level up. This also includes accommodation, travel costs. If the conference is on a workday youโll get paid like any normal day. Silverfin colleagues regularly visit conferences across the world. Are you going to Euruko this year? Come say hi!\n\nWeโre looking to hire a lot of new colleagues, and by the end of the year weโd like to have a couple of more teams. Each new team would also need a new teamlead, and we prefer to promote from within the engineering team. This means if youโd like to step onto the management track, there will be plenty of opportunities to do so in the near future. We pro-actively keep track of who would be interested, and provide feedback and learning opportunities to work towards such a goal.\n\n\n# What are we looking for?\n* Youโre experienced in both Ruby and Rails, and also understand where the boundaries lie between them. You can code in Ruby without any of Railsโ training wheels if necessary.\n* Youโre up for mentoring coworkers and can give in-depth, productive feedback during code reviews. While you appreciate the small stuff, you recognize bikeshedding and can avoid its pitfalls.\n* You code with reason and can justify the important decisions you made during development.\n* You can communicate clearly in English, both written and verbally.\n* You know and can apply best practices when relevant. That means the usual like version control, testing, and refactoring; but also higher level concepts such as good object oriented design.\n* You're aware of the trade-offs involved in proper engineering and can make balanced business decisions, keeping in mind all the stakeholders of the project.\n* Youโve got opinions on code design and you can discuss them, but youโre professional enough to not let those opinions get in the way of a consensus if necessary.\n\n\n# What can we offer you?\n\n* Actual, proper work-life balance\n* A salary range of โฌ60.000 - โฌ100.000 a year\n* Choose your own working hours and work 100% remotely\n* Possibility to work part-time (4 day working week)\n* Personal growth training and opportunities\n* Join a distributed remote-first engineering team with 25 colleagues in 14 different countries\n* A refreshing work environment with professional, friendly and welcoming colleagues\n* A โฌ1000 yearly budget for conferences, courses, workshops or other expenses that will improve your skills\n\n# Requirements\n\n* You have at least 4 years of experience working with Ruby, or 2 years of experience with Ruby and 4 years in one or more other programming language.\n* You get Rails\n* Your work hours have some overlap with EU business hours (we require your local timezone to be within CET +/- 3h)\n\n# Nice to haveโs\nThese would be nice but are definitely not necessary. Donโt worry if none of the following applies to you.\n\n* Experience as a remote worker in a fully remote team\n* Experience with Javascript (ES6) and frontend frameworks\n* Experience working with large datasets and the problems they bring\n* Experience in Fintech\n* Accounting knowledge\n\n# Interested?\n* [Read about what our interviewing process looks like](https://engineering.silverfin.com/engineering-interview-process/)\n* [Apply for the job right here](https://grnh.se/e21a38802us)\n* Or email us with any questions on [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]). \n\nPlease mention the words **STAIRS ELSE DEFINE** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMy4xNS4yMjMuMjE0). # How do you apply?\n\n[Apply for the job right here](https://grnh.se/e21a38802us)
๐ Please reference you found the job on Remote OK, this helps us get more companies to post here, thanks!
When applying for jobs, you should NEVER have to pay to apply. You should also NEVER have to pay to buy equipment which they then pay you back for later. Also never pay for trainings you have to do. Those are scams! NEVER PAY FOR ANYTHING! Posts that link to pages with "how to work online" are also scams. Don't use them or pay for them. Also always verify you're actually talking to the company in the job post and not an imposter. A good idea is to check the domain name for the site/email and see if it's the actual company's main domain name. Scams in remote work are rampant, be careful! Read more to avoid scams. When clicking on the button to apply above, you will leave Remote OK and go to the job application page for that company outside this site. Remote OK accepts no liability or responsibility as a consequence of any reliance upon information on there (external sites) or here.

Hi! My name is Chris, Iโm the CEO of 11Sigma, and Iโd like to invite you to join our team.\n\nWe started 11Sigma in 2018 with a vision of a world of opportunities and the freedom enabled by remote work.\n\n**We believe that remote work is a lifestyle**, itโs about the culture, values, and mindset, not a โcorporate benefitโ or a โpost-COVID realityโ.\n\nOur **three values: explore, be free, and contribute** define who we are, and what we do.\n\nOur dream is to build a company **open to everyone**, which supports you in experiencing an exciting, fulfilling life.\n\n**11Sigma is about exploring**. Both literal, as in a journey, as well as open-mindedness, self-growth, and curiosity of life and at work.\n\nWe are software engineers, travelers, digital nomads, caring parents, adventurers. We are internally-motivated problem solvers and contributors.\n\nTo us, life is an adventure, and the world is incredibly interesting. We are **hungry to learn new things and explore our potential.**\n\nTo find exciting work and open amazing opportunities we partner with tech startups that build incredible products and provide a healthy work-life balance. \n\nIf the above resonates with you, please read on.\n\n## Job Description\n\nYou will join the [11Sigma](https://11sigma.com) crew at [Briza](https://briza.com), our partner, series-A startup from Canada, recently raised $8M and is growing rapidly. You'll be working with 11Sigma and Briza engineers on creating a one-stop-shop product integrating multiple insurance carriers into a hustle-free service.\n\nThe challenge is to find effective ways to integrate APIs from insurance companies that often use slightly different language to describe similar things. This job post is closed and the position is probably filled. Please do not apply. Work for Silverfin and want to re-open this job? Use the edit link in the email when you posted the job!
Here it comes.\n\n\n### Whatโs a Silverfin?\n\nAt Silverfin weโre trying to apply the promise of software to the age-old industry of accounting. The even better news is thereโs still plenty left to work on, and thatโs where we hope you come in.\n\n\n\n### What makes the engineering team at Silverfin special?\n\nWeโre a remote-first engineering team of 25 people distributed in 14 different countries. Twice a year we fly the whole engineering team together to a different location in Europe, and at least once a year we join up with the rest of the company so we can spend some time together with the other departments.\n\n\n\n### What does working at Silverfin look like?\n\nWe work in nimble teams around 5 people in size, with each team taking ownership of a specific set of features of the application. Teams are responsible for a full slice across the stack, so both the backend as well as the frontend of each part is maintained by the same people.\n\nYouโll be supported by our UI designer who develops and maintains HTML and CSS components into a reusable UI-framework, and even builds Vue.js prototypes where necessary, handling compatibility problems with different browsers for you, and making sure everything is responsive as well.\n\nOur ops team ensures things run smoothly, deploys happen correctly, and will work with you when issues should arise. To give you a sense of scale: our database exceeds 7TB, and our largest table recently crossed the 10 billion row mark. We interface with more than 30 different external APIs, and provide third parties an API of our own.\n\n*: Our ops team noted that this actually isnโt that hard to achieve if youโre just indexing everything, but it still sounds impressive, right?\n\n\n\n### What does your future look like?\n\nPersonal growth is key to staying motivated. We pro-actively keep track of who would be interested, and provide feedback and learning opportunities to work towards such a goal.\n\n\n\n### What are we looking for?\n\n* Youโre experienced in both Ruby and Rails, and also understand where the boundaries lie between them. That means the usual like version control, testing, and refactoring; but also higher level concepts such as good object oriented design.\n* You're aware of the trade-offs involved in proper engineering and can make balanced business decisions, keeping in mind all the stakeholders of the project.\n* Youโve got opinions on code design and you can discuss them, but youโre professional enough to not let those opinions get in the way of a consensus if necessary.\n\n\n\n### What can we offer you?\n\n* Actual, proper work-life balance\n* A salary range of โฌ60.000 - โฌ100.000 a year\n* Choose your own working hours and work 100% remotely\n* Personal growth training and opportunities\n* Join a distributed remote-first engineering team with 25 colleagues in 14 different countries\n* A refreshing work environment with professional, friendly and welcoming colleagues\n* A โฌ1000 yearly budget for conferences, courses, workshops or other expenses that will improve your skills\n\n\n\n### Requirements\n\n* You have at least 4 years of experience working with Ruby, or 2 years of experience with Ruby and 4 years in one or more other programming language.\n* You get Rails\n* Your work hours have some overlap with EU business hours (we require your local timezone to be within CET +/- 3h)\n\n\n### Nice to haveโs\n\nThese would be nice but are definitely not necessary. Donโt worry if none of the following applies to you.\n\n* Experience as a remote worker in a fully remote team\n* Experience with Javascript (ES6) and frontend frameworks\n* Experience working with large datasets and the problems they bring\n* Experience in Fintech\n* Accounting knowledge \n\nPlease mention the words **DISORDER BONUS BENCH** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMy4xNS4yMjMuMjE0).
