Remote Product Designer

\nThe financial industry is growing at a record pace, but our data providers are still stuck in the past โ€” with cumbersome onboarding processes, complicated APIs, slow infrastructure, and expensive licensing costs.\n\nDatabento is the next-generation market data provider โ€” with the radical idea that you should only pay for the data that you use. We power the world's largest finance and fintech institutions and lower the barrier of entry for small startups, gaining over 4000 users during our first year of launch. Our team consists of former data users from firms like Two Sigma, Belvedere, Pico, Flow Traders, and Tower Research.\n\nWe offer health, dental, disability, and life insurance benefits, as well as 401(k) matching and visa sponsorships for full-time employees. We accommodate 100% remote work, with teammates living around the globe and paid in their local currency.\nResponsibilities\n\nAs a Product Designer, you'll work closely with our product and engineering teams to design and improve on our core product and implement growth strategies to widen our user base. Specifically, you'll be: \n\n\n* Owning the end-to-end design across multiple projects on both core product and growth features.\n\n* Working with external and internal stakeholders to identify and prioritize user needs that are ambiguous in scope and translate them into simple and elegant solutions.\n\n* Working with engineers to bridge the gap between design and technical implementation and implementing a high standard for new feature launches.\n\n* Defining design systems and steering the evolution of the product's visual language.\n\n* Motivating design-oriented decisions and standards firm-wide.\n\n\n\nThe product\n\nOur core products are an API service and an enterprise web application. Here are some key highlights of our product strategy:\n\n\n* Product-led growth with low touch sales. We rely on product features like referrals, team invites and self-signup process instead of a traditional sales pipeline to scale our user base.\n\n* Enterprise-grade, consumer-scale product. (Like Slack or GitHub.) Our competitors adopt a traditional enterprise SaaS strategy, opting to hide their product behind a "request for quote/demo" and employing a high touch onboarding process with big sales teams. We believe we can outpace their growth by targeting the same enterprises with an institutional-grade product that instead has the ease of adoption and transparency of a consumer product. \n\n* Targeting a developer-centric user base. (Like AWS, Stripe or Plaid.) \nAbout The Role\n\n\nYard Stick is looking for a Director of Business Development to help us fight climate change with soil.\nTo date, two-ish people have done the bulk of Yard Stickโ€™s customer discovery, business development, commercial strategy-setting, and selling: Chris Tolles (CEO)  and Kelsey Chan (Head of Growth + Partnerships). To accomplish our ambitious climate impact and commercial revenue goals, Yard Stick must transition from being primarily a founder-led sales effort to one with dedicated team members and expertise 100% focused on growing the companyโ€™s top line. We have demonstrated incredible early traction and are ready to accelerate our efforts to win more and bigger contracts for work in our wheelhouse, namely soil C stock quantification on row crop and grazing agricultural soils in the US. \n\n\nWeโ€™re looking for a biz dev powerhouse to build on our existing foundation and take commercial growth to the next level. This person will get inside the heads and hearts of our customers, build trust with prospects (often over months and longer!), iterate on our marketing/messaging for maximum resonance, craft home-run proposals, and generally sell the shit out of our offering.\n\n\nThis role must both be the type to knock down a door driving toward a signed contract, and be incredibly curious and empathetic in the way they collaborate with other Yard Stick stakeholders, both external and internal. That said, the #1 KPI for this role is revenue signed, so with the right raw materials (e.g. tech maturity, basic market assets, strategic clarity), which youโ€™ll help create and refine, youโ€™ll win big soil carbon measurement contracts for the company quickly and consistently.
