We started Loancrate to make home-buying simpler and less expensive for lenders and borrowers (us!). Today, mortgage lenders are stuck running their companies on software products built 20 years ago. These products are slow, unstable and donโt lead to material improvements in efficiency. When using these systems, the average human cost to originate a loan is still over $11,000.
Loancrate builds AI native tooling to automate mortgage workflows. Our ultimate goal is fully automated origination, which has the potential to save lenders over $16B in operating expense per year.
Since starting in 2020, our remote team has enabled our customers to power >$85 billion in new home loans. We are a group of people excited to tackle the complexity of the home-lending industry. We care about collaboration, very open communication covering the good & the bad so that we learn from our decisions quickly, and ultimately having fun while we're building. You'll fit in well if you like diving deep quickly!
The Opportunity
Our dreams are big and we have much to build! We're looking for senior software engineers to help lead our team in powering the future of home buying in the US (which could entail managing a majority of US home loans every year โ financial assets worth trillions of dollars).
We are excited to offer competitive salary and equity for this role.
What To Expect
As an engineer at Loancrate, you'll continue our team tradition by shipping code to production on your first day! Following that, within your first month, you'll dive into your first mission-critical project, such as...
๐ Architecting, building, and launching complex, multi-step AI agents that our customers use to digitize their ops workflows and save millions of dollars per year.
๐ค Integrating with 3rd-party providers of lending services APIs to generate documents/disclosures, produce automated underwriting results, or prevent fraud.
๐ Architecting, building, and launching the next generation of our job processing infrastructure on AWS to make Loancrate's back end more observable and reliable.
Tech Stack
Nearly all of our code is written in TypeScript. We use React on the frontend, Node/Express on the backend (running inside Docker), GraphQL/Apollo on both sides, and Postgres as our database. We use AWS (ECS, RDS, ElastiCache, Kafka, ElasticSearch, and more) and manage all of our infrastructure with Terraform.
We believe that high engineering velocity drives high product velocity (and, in turn, our success as a company ๐). Keeping this in mind, we've invested heavily in creating a great developer experience that enables engineers to ship fast. Some highlights of our stack:
โ๏ธ End-to-End Type Safety - We generate TypeScript types from our Postgres and GraphQL schemas so that when we change our database schema we see type errors in any incompatible frontend React components.
๐ Full-Stack Code Sharing - Our build tooling supports seamless sharing of TypeScript files between the client, server, and other packages in our mono-repo so that we never have to define functions or configuration values twice.
๐ Reproducible Infrastructure - Weโve used Terraform to manage 100% of our infrastructure since day 1 and have configured our CI pipeline to automatically deploy temporary staging environments for every pull request. We use these per-PR environments to get feedback from teammates and test any infrastructure changes using infrastructure that's identical to production.
๐งช First Class Testing Utilities - We have a comprehensive library of utilities that mock production-like data and feed automated end-to-end, integration, and performance tests. Our wide-ranging test suite allows us to move fast while maintaining nearly perfect uptime.
Preferred Skills and Background
(It's okay not to have all of these things - these are just some skills we are excited about!)
๐ค Familiarity with modern AI product development lifecycles (evals, experiment design, dataset curation, etc). We donโt just build AI chat bots. We wrangle non-deterministic LLMs into reliable mission-critical systems.
๐ A constant and keen eye for security risks โ we store and display some of people's most sensitive personal data and need to keep it safe!
๐จ A desire to be product-oriented, from thinking through the product implications of what you're building to contributing your unique ideas of how to improve the product.
๐๏ธ Ability to develop readable, maintainable, and effective software architecture patterns that support use of our product by various enterprise customers (each with thousands of employees and their own methods for running their companies).
๐ฉโ๐ซ๐จโ๐ซ Excitement to mentor less senior engineers in both hard and soft skills.
๐ SRE-oriented mindset for developing infrastructure that's reliable, observable, and requires minimal toil to maintain.
๐ฉ๏ธ Experience scaling high-throughput distributed systems in the cloud. Bonus points if you're experienced with infrastructure-as-code solutions like Terraform or CloudFormation!
๐ง Ability to develop full-stack web app features from design through deployment.
๐ข๏ธ Experience designing and scaling complex relational DB schemas, as well as figuring out performant ways to store, retrieve, and update such data. Home loans have thousands of data fields ๐.

Working from 22+ countries, weโre a collection of talented humans rich in diverse backgrounds, lifestyles, and cultures. Close has been 100% remote since 2016, creating an intentional workplace around asynchronous communication and collaboration. Every year we meet up somewhere around the world to spend time with one another. These gatherings are an opportunity to strengthen the relationships within our global community.
We practice a mature approach to the workplace -- manage your time effectively, communicate thoughtfully with your teammates and customers, and produce high quality work. We have impressive tenure amongst the team; we stay at Close because we love working with our colleagues, we appreciate the autonomy and we thrive in an environment that challenges us to do our best work.
Unanimously, our favorite value is โBuild a house you want to live in.โ We make decisions that are rooted in helping our customers become more successful. We care equally about the health of our business and the wellbeing of our people.ย
Our application process was designed to promote equitable and unbiased hiring practices. We ask a small series of questions that are similar to what would be asked in the first interview. This helps us learn more about you right from the start so please be sure to answer each question thoughtfully. Each application will receive two screens by two different reviewers. Regardless of fit, you will hear back from us letting you know if we'll be moving forward.
While we are excited by all the opportunities that generative AI has unlocked, we request that you refrain from relying on AI tools when completing an application. We ask these questions because we want to get to know you, your experience, and your communication style. All responses are read closely by multiple humans and any obviously AI generated applications will be disregarded.

Float is the worldโs leading software for teams to plan their time and, behind it, is a world-class team looking for an experienced Front-End Lead to join us. From New York to the UK, Canada to South Africaโour Engineering, Product, Marketing, and Customer Success teams work asynchronously, helping brands such as Airbnb, Buzzfeed, and Ogilvy plan and manage their time better. Float is self-funded, profitable, and growing. If youโre a go-getter,ย align with our values, and are looking to join a team thatโs passionate about helping others work and live more productively, we want to hear from you. Here are aย few tips from our CEOย to make sure your resume stands out from the crowd.
Why Weโre Hiring For This Role
As a Front-End Engineering Lead, youโll use your extensive knowledge of JavaScript fundamentals and comprehensive React-based SPA development experience to own Floatโs front-end platform: a simple and intuitive interface relied upon internationally by top-tier agencies and teams to plan, schedule and track their projects. Youโll use your skills and expertise to overcome complex engineering challenges that go beyond routine state management.
You enjoy building data-intensive applications and want to push the boundaries of what component-based declarative front-ends can do. You particularly appreciate how such an approach can facilitate real-time collaborative user experiences. If that sounds like you, Float invites you on a journey full of challenges, fun, and gratification. You will own delivering highly performant, delightful, and consistent user experiences across web and mobile platforms.
Weโre looking for an exceptional engineer to take our front-end to the next level. Youโll be leading by example, planning a roadmap, and preparing the necessary foundational work to ensure that the Float application continues to be best-in-class.
Our Director of Engineering, Colin Ross, explains the important role you will play within our Engineering team.ย Watch this video.
Youโll be working with senior front-end engineers to ensure that changes proposed for our web application are suitable both for the customer as well as the long-term health of our product and Float itself. You will monitor the impact of deployed changes to maintain the high standards of our product, following up as required and striving to be ahead of any uncovered trends.
What Youโll Be Responsible For
As a Front-End Lead, you will be a senior member of the Engineering Department, reporting to the Director of Engineering. Youโll be responsible for the overall direction and execution of Floatโs front-end platform strategy, including:
the future of our front-end architecture
core libraries and components as part of our Design System
collaborating closely with Product, Design, Mobile Engineers, and QA to specify, conceptualize, build, test, deploy, and monitor new features
working with other senior engineers (including Performance Engineers) to set our appโs performance benchmarks, ensure they are maintained, and improved upon over time
adopt common patterns for data access, state management, and code organization across all of Floatโs front-end platform
continuous integration and deployment of all front-end code across various environments
reviewing and supporting front-end technical designs across feature teams
participating in design discussions and roadmap planning to ensure front-end concerns are well represented
maintaining and upgrading frameworks and tools for a great developer experience
Youโll be joining a group of seasoned engineers who can work independently and donโt require day-to-day management. Rather, you will bring your skills to focus on the longer term and the bigger picture, sweating the details as necessary to be confident we have a platform on which we can build for years to come.
Some example projects you might spearhead include:
expanding the roll-out of TypeScript
putting together code quality guidelines, and enforcing those programmatically and via code reviews
mentoring our front-end team to be stronger engineers, and assisting with hiring additional team members
What Youโll Need To Be Successful
Youโll have spent a number of years working on web applications in a senior role and have a deep familiarity with the front-end ecosystem: including build systems, multiple frameworks as well as different styles of front-end development.
You will be expected to quickly become fluent with the majority of our existing tech stack which comprises:
React
Redux, for global state management
Reselect, for derived state management
Jest, for all things testing
Yarn workspaces for seamless private package management in a monorepo
React-spring & more, for intricate and performant visual interactions
Exhaustive virtualization using open-source as well as in-house proprietary components that make rendering hundreds of thousands of data points a breeze
WebSocket for real-time updates
CSS-in-JS (currently styled-components)
TypeScript (currently in gradual adaptation phase)
And several other tools like Babel, WebPack, Puppeteer, Storybook etc.
Experience with the following would be a big plus.
Local-first software - not just PWAs but fully-fledged offline capable web apps using CRDTs, IndexedDB etc.
React-native or other native mobile app development platforms
Working with distributed systems, event-based architectures at scale
Youโre not a tyrant and are willing to be flexible as the situation dictates, acknowledging the value of consensus while recognising the benefits of having a clear vision.
Ultimately, you get more satisfaction from making a detailed plan and assessing the final deliverable than from necessarily doing the work yourself. You are looking to take on a role with high autonomy and corresponding responsibility in order to have a genuine impact on the Float team and our customers by means of your vision and strategy.
As a fully remote team, weโre looking for someone comfortable with asynchronous communication as the default, which means you have previous remote experience and are comfortable using tools like Slack, Loom, and Asana to communicate as needed. Donโt worryโyou will have significant deep work time since we haveย very few meetings.
Why Join Us
Weโre a global company with a diverse team of folks from all over the world who share a common belief in living our best work life. That includes a flexible asynchronous policy that allows you to work whenever you work best, minimal meetings, annual team meetups, and perks and benefits that support your personal health and well-being.
