Newsweek is on the hunt for a dynamic and passionate Science Editor to join our UK team. As our Science Editor, you'll have the opportunity to source, pitch, write, and edit captivating news and feature articles on a range of scientific topics, including current affairs, health, nature, popular science, space, and trending topics. You'll be at the forefront of putting a scientific spin on major news stories and developing stories where science intersects with news and politics. \nOur office is based in London, Canary Wharf, but you may work remotely from home anywhere in the UK. \nKey Responsibilities: \n\nManage a team of reporters and ensure high-quality coverage that is accurate, fair, and conforms to accepted standards of journalism \n\nPitch, research, and assign original stories and features \n\nEdit copy, checking facts and sources, to ensure content meets Newsweekโs expected quality standards \n\nForward planning for events and conducting interviews \n\nWrite articles if required and lead testing and scientific investigations. \n\nBuild academic partnerships and perform any other reasonable duties as necessary to meet the needs of the business. \n\n\n\nQualifications: \n\nDetailed knowledge of key scientific topics, including nature, space, health, and Earth sciences. \n\nAnโฏinterest in U.S. politics. \n\nSignificant experience in an editing role covering scientific topics for a reputable organization. \n\nExperience managing a team of reporters. \n\nCapable of working to tight deadlines. \n\nStrong understanding of digital journalism and the needs of a fast-paced newsroom. \n\nAbility to use social media and search platforms to identify trends and conceive original articles for an American audience. \n\nAn eye for scientific detail is a practical necessity \n\n\n\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n
