Mast Reforestation is hiring a

Remote Grant Writer

\nAbout Mast Reforestation (Mast): \n\n\nAs the leading end-to-end reforestation company in the U.S., Mast is on a mission to make reforestation scalable. As bigger and hotter fires destroy more forestland every year, Mast provides fast, resilient forest restoration for landowners impacted by devastating wildfires. As the only vertically-integrated reforestation company in the industry, Mast has removed the financial, procedural, and seed supply barriers that typically stand in the way of getting reforestation done.  Mast collects native, diverse seed species and manages site preparation, planting, and ongoing monitoring, delivering high quality projects.  By assembling first-of-its-kind third party capital, Mast delivers these projects at no-cost to landowners.  With trusted forestry companies Silvaseed and Cal Forest in its portfolio, Mast is the largest seed bank and reforestation container stock producer in the Western U.S. Mast is also an innovation center for the non-timber forestry supply chain, developing various biological and technical products for achieving land management goals more efficiently. To learn more, visit www.mastreforest.com and watch this video of our recent Montana project (hyperlink: https://www.mastreforest.com/reforestation)\n\n\nIf youโ€™re inspired by our work, weโ€™d encourage you to apply!\n\n\nMast Reforestation is seeking an experienced and dynamic Grant Writer to manage the development, submission, and tracking of grant proposals to support our reforestation efforts. Weโ€™re focused on deepening our impact in each of our 16 (and growing!) state partners, expanding to new states, and growing the team. Thatโ€™s where you come in.\n\nIn this role, youโ€™ll work closely with the Growth Analyst, Chief of Staff, Product Analyst, and Executive Director to bring in the funding required to advance our mission. Youโ€™ll create written content that keeps our supporters up to date on and excited about our work, and that drives vocal advocacy for our organization and our accomplishments. Weโ€™re looking for someone who loves the art of writing and editing, who is thoughtful, proactive, and a team player. \nAbout us\n\nRecidiviz is creating safer, healthier communities by improving outcomes for people in the criminal justice system. We build technology to reduce the number of people in prison and to help criminal justice leaders embrace data-driven decision-making. \n\nUsing software tools and thoughtful product design, weโ€™ve been able to safely and permanently reduce incarceration and improve outcomes. We work side-by-side with leaders of the criminal justice system, people in prison and on supervision, and ecosystem partners to build a better path forward. In addition to the revenue we earn from state partners, some of the most respected philanthropists and foundations support our work.\n\nPeople who succeed at Recidiviz lead with kindness and humility, assume good intent, learn from failure, and fix problems when they see them.\nAbout the role\n\nIf youโ€™re a writer in search of a high-impact mission, youโ€™ve found it here. Youโ€™ll flex excellent writing skills across a wide variety of content, speaking to our current supporters and helping reach new ones. Pick who to pitch, when to pitch them, and how to pitch them.\n\n* Create all pitch and prep materials. Unstick stalled pitches. \n\n* Manage the fundraising pipeline to hit revenue targets. \n\n\n\n\n\nWild success\n\nA year from now you will - \n\n\n* Close active fundraising rounds, focused on increasing adoption of Recidiviz tools and piloting how to bring Recidiviz tools directly to people in prison and under community supervision. Youโ€™ll have done this by - \n\n\n\n* Writing high quality, customized proposals for funders \n\n* Preparing compelling pitch decks \n\n\n\n* Kept Recidivizโ€™s small and diverse donor base excited about Recidivizโ€™s work and proud of our progress. You love to write. You know that great writing transcends words on paper, and shapes how everyone views Recidiviz and our work. You can make complex topics and ideas simple to understand. You adapt writing to varied audiences and desired tones.\n\n* Youโ€™re thoughtful, proactive, and analytical. You can slow down or stop a moving train when you spot risk. You can speed up a stalled train. You can look weeks, months, quarters out and identify opportunities and risks. Without letting perfect be the enemy of progress, you leave no stone unturned and maintain a high bar of polish for the work that crosses your desk. \n\n* Youโ€™re a curious and strategic thinker. You listen well and ask questions, eager to get to the root cause of an issue. You are committed to maximizing upside, exploring an opportunity from all angles before committing. \n\n* Youโ€™re introspective and a great teammate. You lean into your strongest qualities and work on your biggest opportunities. You pick up balls that are dropping. You roll up your sleeves to do what it takes to move the mission forward. You identify gaps and fill them temporarily, while designing and advocating for the right long-term solutions.\n\n\n\nPreferred qualifications\n\n\n* Experience grant and proposal writing is preferred, but not required. Since then, weโ€™ve built an A-team of software engineers, designers, product managers and domain experts, from companies like Google, Apple, Dropbox, Opower, and Sidewalk Labs. Recidiviz was part of Y-Combinatorโ€™s 2019 class and has received support from some of the most respected philanthropists and foundations, including Ford Foundation, Mackenzie Scott, Schmidt Futures, Arnold Ventures, Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, and the Mozilla Foundation.\n\nToday, Recidiviz works with over 16 state partners โ€“ big and small, red and blue โ€“ and covers more than 30% of the US incarcerated population. We have helped to get tens of thousands of people out of the criminal justice system, safely and equitably, and saved states nearly $1 billion. In the next five years, Recidiviz plans to partner with 40 states and help 250,000 people who are stuck in the system to get out and stay out. In additison to partnering with state Departments of Corrections, Recidiviz collaborates with and learns from partners โ€“ from organizations like the Correctional Leaders Association (CLA) to community based organizations and justice-impacted individuals, whose perspectives guide our work.\n\nTo learn more about how we do what we do, check out our 2022 Year in Review, read some press coverage, or watch our TED Talk. And if youโ€™re really keen to see our work, you can dive into our Github :).\nAn important note\n\nLasting change is always built on diversity. Recidiviz recruits, employs, trains, compensates and promotes regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, disability, age, veteran status, ancestry, citizenship, marital status, gender identity and all protected status as required by applicable law. We consider qualified applicants regardless of criminal histories, consistent with legal requirements. If you have a special need that requires accommodation, please let us know in your application. Even if you don't think you meet all the criteria above, drop your resume, and we'll take a look โ€“ you might be great for another role or another time! \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to Writer and Writer jobs that are similar:\n\n $50,000 — $70,000/year\n

This applies to our candidates, our teams, our storytelling, our creative work, and our platforms, products, and partnerships.\n\n \nWHAT YOUโ€™LL DO\n\n\n* Write and/or update 4-5 shopping stories per week, most of which require a combination of interviewing experts, requesting product samples, testing products on your own, and providing guidelines for testing across the wider staff\n\n* Closely monitor shopping trends, product launches, and consumer habits on your beat and pitch relevant stories\n\n* Work on 1-2 long-term, ambitious editorial projects a year, while balancing short-term assignments\n\n* Perform additional responsibilities, as assigned by editors\n\n\n\n\n \nWHO YOU ARE\n\n\n* 3+ years of professional journalism experience, especially e-commerce and/or service journalism\n\n* Keen interest and understanding of sleep products, especially mattresses and pillows, preferred โ€” but not required\n\n* Familiarity with the Strategistโ€™s voice and approach to service journalism, including the ability to understand and translate product specs and technical jargon into reader-friendly service โ€” with a hint of healthy skepticism toward bold marketing claims\n\n* Ability to work independently, especially around coming up with plans for product testing\n\n* Enthusiasm for developing and maintaining a wide network of sources, including medical professionals, academics, and other professionally sleep-obsessed people\n\n* Excellent communication and task management skills, especially in working with a distributed team across time zones\n\n* Strong and fast-paced writing skills for a digital publication\n\n\n\n\nIf you think you have what it takes, but don't meet every single point in our job posting, please apply with a cover letter to let us know how you believe you can bring your unique skills to the Vox Media team or get in touch!
