Merchstack is looking for an experienced backend engineer to help architect, build, and evolve our SaaS product on the backend. Weโ€™re seeking engineers who think about the backend in terms of systems, reuse, flexibility, and performance.

To succeed in this role, you will need a breadth of experience working in modelling data structures for data-rich applications, a passion for object-oriented design patterns and an unparalleled ability to think about individual work items, holistically across the design of the entire application.

What youโ€™ll do

  • Design and implement new GraphQL queries and mutations to either meet customer demand or UI/UX requirements.
  • Contribute to the overall stability and performance of our application.
  • Optimize our application for maximum speed and scalability.
  • Build new data providers for Merchstack in the form of composable plugins.
  • Take ownership of dependencies in our code base i.e. ensuring that we are reasonably patched.
  • Work with the VP of Engineering to plan out new prospective pieces of work ahead of time, such as architectural design and infrastructure requirements.
  • Work with DevOps / DBA functions to ensure that new and existing features are being backed and observed by appropriate hardware/infrastructure.

The Stack

  • Typescript, NestJS
  • SQL / TypeORM
  • Apollo GraphQL
  • ElasticSearch
  • Redis
  • AWS / Elastic Kubernetes Service

What we look for

  • 4+ years building object-oriented data-driven applications at scale.
  • Confident in leveraging relational data sources at scale, this includes but is not limited to a deep understanding of data cardinality, data structures and efficient client-side memory management for large datasets and fast-moving dimensions.
  • Experience leveraging IoC containers for dependency injection, with a full understanding of the 3 main dependency injection lifecycles.
  • Advanced Typescript knowledge and desire to use more advanced Typescript concepts to reduce boiler-plate.
  • Will not write O(n!) code.
  • Good understanding of Internet protocols: TCP/IP, HTTP, WebSocket and demonstratable web performance tuning skills
  • Knowledge of the software development lifecycle (version control, tooling, testing, etc.)
  • An active Github account, showcasing your own projects
  • Deep experience leveraging ORMs for data modelling and data access concerns. Should understand both the pros and cons of using an ORM vs. raw queries.
  • Has worked with one or all of the following: NestJS, TypeORM, Apollo GraphQL

Bonus points

  • Any experience in another exclusively OOP C-like language, for instance: C# or Java.
  • Elasticsearch
  • Functional understanding of service-based architecture.
  • Packaging container-based applications with an emphasis on small footprints.

About you

  • You are detail-oriented and focus on delivering seamless, reliable experiences.
  • You care about code quality and are committed to writing strongly typed, well-tested code.
  • You are intrinsically motivated, able to manage your time, and enjoy working with a distributed team across the globe.
  • You believe in asking for help and helping others when they ask, never throwing a problem over the wall
  • You approach problems with curiosity, creativity, and flexibility.
  • You strive to foster relationships in order ensure healthy debate.
  • You show gratitude and give back.

Backend Software Engineer - Remote or In Office (UT, PA, CA)ย  *Must be located in the US*

Hiring for Senior, Staff, and Sr. Staff levels.ย

Nav is democratizing small business financing. In other words, we give small business owners access and control.ย  Yes, this challenges the norm, but it means working with curious, purpose driven, dedicated, and inquisitively smart people who push themselves, our company and the community to the next level (and every level after that). We are the people behind the tech. And when itโ€™s good, we look for better. We donโ€™t over think the value we bring nor spend time trying to revamp mantras. We also do not come up with some crafty way to tell you who we are and what we offer. We are Nav!ย  Here, youโ€™ll gain a wealth of experience, learn the tricks of the trade, and work with winners. All companies say people are connected to their mission but in our case our mission and our people are one โ€“ it is a way of being not just a cause you are committed to.ย  And since 2013, Nav has holistically and organically developed its own ideology because Nav can only be Nav.

WHAT WE EMPOWER YOU WITH:

  • Build and scale services that integrate with banking data vendors, Salesforce, and other internal services. Our focus is in Go, but we support other services in languages such as Ruby, Elixir, and Python.
  • Optimize Navโ€™s customer experience, from first contact, through sign-up, and applying for loans and credit cards.
  • Build the framework that Navโ€™s solutions (credit reports, alerts, financing marketplace) plug into.
  • Turn business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Help establish best practices within Nav's growing Engineering organization.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:

  • A track record of successfully delivering maintainable backend systems in a Linux environment.
  • Experience programming in Go, Ruby, or Elixir. Active interest in learning new paradigms and languages.
  • Relentless problem solver.

WHO YOU ARE:

  • You uplift those around you.
  • Youโ€™ve got great verbal and written communication skills.
  • Youโ€™ve got amazing relationship-building and relationship-management skills.
  • You are comfortable working on complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • You have a bias for action, a โ€œdriverโ€ that gets stuff done, using analytical thinking.
  • You are comfortable with ambiguity, ability to change course quickly based on new insights.

INCLUSION AT NAV:

At Nav, we celebrate what makes our employees unique because the businesses we serve are progressively diverse and distinctly original. Navericks are diverse, side hustlers, immigrants, veterans, queer, and we push generational boundaries. We are college dropouts, PhDs, special needs parents, allies, pet owners and community leaders. Navericks are human.ย  We are committed to upholding a safe, supportive environment where everyone matters. We are committed to making a better future for all of us. We have created a workplace where people of all backgrounds can express their identities authentically. To put it simply we want you to be proud to be you.

OUR COMPENSATION PHILOSOPHY IS SIMPLE BUT POWERFUL:

We believe great, enduring relationships are grounded in trust and transparency. Compensation shouldnโ€™t be a distraction, and employees should understand how pay and career advancement decisions are made.ย  Providing equal pay for equal work is table stakes for being a great place to work. Gender and ethnic inequity should only be something that our children read about in history books.ย  We believe providing Navsters with company ownership, competitive pay, and a range of meaningful benefits is the start of creating a culture where people want to give the best theyโ€™ve got โ€” not because theyโ€™re simply making money, but because theyโ€™ve fallen in love with our vision, mission, values, and team.

OUR IMPACT ON YOU:

Competitive Pay. Company Ownership. Unlimited Vacation.ย  Benefits Day One. 6 Weeks Paid Parental Leave.ย  Work From Anywhere (yes we were distributed before it was cool).ย  Flexible Work Arrangements. Free Telehealth and Telemental Health For All Employees. Employee Networking and Events. Community Network Groups (womenโ€™s, PRIDE, culture).ย  Meaningful Perks and Rewards. Learning and Development Opportunities.ย  Pet Insurance.ย

A NAVERICKโ€™S DNA:ย

  • We look at the future and say โ€œwhy notโ€;ย  we see possibilities where others see problems or routines. We show the way ahead and are committed to achieving ambitious goals.
  • We practice straight talk and listen generously to each other with empathy.ย  We value different opinions and point of views. We ensure that we connect outside as well as inside to learn from others and inspire each other.
  • We hold ourselves accountable for delivering results. We choose to not to be a victim of circumstance.ย  We make decisions &ย  take responsibility so that we can act & support each other, rather than adopting defensive, and โ€œfinger pointingโ€ behaviors.
  • As leaders we motivate & engage our teams to undertake beyond what they originally thought possible, by developing our teams & creating the conditions for people to grow and empower themselves through enabling & coaching.

๐Ÿš€ Want to join a team of A-players in an exciting, high-growth, entrepreneurial environment?

LeadSimple makes it easy for property management companies to provide amazing customer service while they grow to manage thousands of doors. Our customers depend on our software daily to help them sell their services, communicate with their customers and do their critical day-to-day work.

Weโ€™re a bootstrapped, fully-remote company with no outside investors, a great product and happy customers. Our software is unique in our industry, bringing together tools that are often sold separately into a single, integrated product. Our customers love it, and the company is growing fast.

Because our platform integrates many kinds of software into a single platform, weโ€™re always working on interesting projects! Here are just some of the awesome things weโ€™ve built recently:

  • A custom text editor built with Slate
  • Real-time UI using GraphQL subscriptions over websockets
  • A consolidated, collaborative inbox for emails, text messages and phone calls

If that sounds cool, youโ€™re in luck, because weโ€™re looking for talented, full-stack software engineers to join our team.ย

About our stack

Our backend is written in Ruby on Rails, with a Typescript React UI that communicates with Rails over GraphQL, using Relay. We use Postgres and Redis for data storage, and Heroku for web hosting.

We donโ€™t care if you arenโ€™t an expert on all this tech right now. This is a full stack role, so we do expect you to become competent with all these tools over time, but what we care most about today is whether you can solve problems independently.

If you have front-end and back-end experience, and you can find the solution when you face a problem in a tech stack youโ€™re unfamiliar with, we want to talk to you.ย

What itโ€™s like to work here

  • Youโ€™ll work on a little of everything, from databases to user interfaces and everything in between, in a wide variety of product areas.
  • Youโ€™ll own the delivery of high-impact projects that affect real customers, from start to finish, with no bureaucracy, following the Shape Up method.ย
  • Youโ€™ll collaborate within a small, highly productive team, reviewing code and helping other engineers with their roadblocks.
  • Youโ€™ll have time to focus. We donโ€™t micromanage, and we do our best to keep distractions (and meetings) to a minimum.ย
  • When assigned to on-call duty, youโ€™ll triage, investigate and fix bugs
  • Youโ€™ll deploy early and often. We ship to production multiple times per day.

Perks for the team

  • Monthly Friday Free Day
  • Company Holidays
  • Quarterly Two-Week Hackathons
  • 3 Weeks Paid Time Off (in addition to the above)
  • Monthly Healthcare Allowance
  • Yearly Vacation Allowance
  • Focused and dedicated environment with smart, caring people
  • Location independence
  • Consistent, but flexible working schedule with 3hr Pacific Time Zone overlap
  • Mission driven, non-political company and values-based culture

How we hire

We highly value seeing your past work. If you have side projects to show, itโ€™s a big plus. If you donโ€™t have projects to share, weโ€™ll ask you to take a coding test to get a sense for where youโ€™re at. At a high level, our hiring process looks like this:

  • Send us your application!
  • We will ask you to send us some side projects or do a coding test
  • 30min screening interview to meet and get to know you
  • 90min interview with our head of engineering, focused on your working history and your side projects
  • Negotiations & offer
  • If you accept, you enter a 90-day trial period, fully paid.
  • If all goes well, you convert to a full-time team member!

Please apply if youโ€ฆ

  • Learn fast and proactively seek your own solutions
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, high-impact environment
  • Communicate crisply and clearly in English
  • Bring an optimistic โ€œcan doโ€ attitude
  • Supply your own internet and smartphone
  • Have B2B SaaS experience (preferred)

This job post is closed and the position is probably filled. Please do not apply.
Virtual Pricing Director is hiring a full-stack engineer to help implement our new legal tech web application - contributing across all aspects of our app, its data, architecture and deployment.\n\nWeโ€™re a well-funded scaleup (no VC money) building the future of legal pricing, for small and large law firms alike. Our workflow and data management software means an end to overcharging clients, arbitrary pricing, and other bad practices that have existed for years.\n\nOur two directors are recognised world authorities in this domain, and bring a number of signed firms ready to use our software. We're off to a healthy start, busy preparing to deploy to one of the world's largest legal teams.\n\nThe work is varied, challenging, and we place equal emphasis on front and back-end. Because of the need to deliver scheduled features, fix bugs, and respond to the needs of newly onboarded firms, weโ€™re looking for someone who relishes lots of hands-on work, contributing across the whole stack. \n\nOur app is powered by React, with Apollo Client for its GraphQL queries and mutations. It leverages Ant Design as the UI framework, upon which we build a mixture of UI components; some simple, some complex. On the back-end, we're using PostgreSQL as our RDS, TypeORM as our ORM, TypeGraphQL to define the API schema, and Apollo Server to deliver the GraphQL.\n\nBoth our front and back ends are coded in TypeScript. We believe in end-to-end testing and have therefore used Playwright to handle an automated E2E test script which runs before deployments.\n\nYou'll join us as we begin to roll out our product to some of the top law firms, and in time to help define, design and build the next two roadmapped modules, and to grow from there.\n\n\n**Upcoming projects across the team**\n\n* Building out a suite of new modules, from designing the underlying business logic and data models, to designing and implementing the application, front-ends and infrastructure\n* Standardising on common approaches that uphold modern enterprise architecture standards\n* New data visualisation and BI reporting solutions\n* Designing and implementing new APIs and data integration pipelines\n* Helping automate quality, CI/CD, and shaping a DevOps approach\n* Contributing to our development culture, methods, and tooling\n* Optionally; supporting dialogue with customers - discovery, requirements, technical solution design, implementation \n\n\n\n**We're looking for**\n\n* Someone with full-stack engineering abilities that span the application, front-end, data and infrastructure considerations\n* A good technical understanding of software engineering principles \n* Technology agnostic, and adept with TypeScript, React, Node.js, PostgreSQL and GraphQL\n* An understanding of the principles of serverless applications, preferably based around AWS\n* Proficient with SQL, and web service design\n* An interest in upholding data security principles and helping choose and implement effective application architectures\n* Ability to unpack complex requirements, to uphold security of sensitive data and to conform to best practices\n* A collaborative, adaptable, user-centred approach\n\n\n**You may also bring - or like to gain - skills around**\n\nAnt Design | TypeORM | TypeGraphQL | Apollo Client | Apollo Server | Java | CircleCI | Heroku | Auth0 | AWS | TDD | Agile | Domain-driven design (DDD) | data modelling | integration patterns\n\n**Salary and benefits**\n\n* ยฃ70,000 - ยฃ90,000 - reviewed at six months - we're keeping an open mind\n* Share scheme for formative team members (once proven value to the business)\n* 25 days holiday, plus public holidays and a day for your birthday\n* Family-friendly and flexible culture - tell us what you need\n* Personal development plan that you can shape, with budget for related training/certifications\n\n**About us**\n\nVirtual Pricing Director has developed groundbreaking software to assist law firms to understand and price their fees, be that ยฃ10k or ยฃ10m. We are the authority for legal pricing and our software has attracted the attention of the largest firms in numerous countries, with a number of partnerships and customers signed. \nWe're now strengthening our fully-remote development team - you'll be our fourth engineering colleague, with more to follow - offering a culture where you will work under your own initiative towards common goals. It's an opportunity to be a formative team member, joining a friendly flat-structured team that operates without ego, and to grow and improve together. \nVirtual Pricing Director is a privately-owned venture, founded by Burcher Jennings LLP and Validatum. https://www.virtualpricingdirector.com/\n\n**Location:** fully remote, within the UK only\n\n**Please note, we are only considering candidates that hold an established right to work in the UK**\n \n\Please mention the word **LOVES** when applying to show you read the job post completely. Telicent is hiring a
Remote Front End Engineer

Telicent is hiring a front-end engineer - remote within UK, only - to help implement our groundbreaking open source data transformation platform and web apps.

Our all-new secure platform enables customers to extricate themselves from architectural patterns that stifle change. We do this by unlocking data and creating frictionless integration for next generation applications. This solves significant interoperability issues for organisations with complex data needs, creating freedom for adaptability, innovation, new integrations and progress, underpinned by data governance.

To compliment the platform's rich functionality, and to accelerate customer engagement and innovation, we're building all-new platform-native web apps around data management and data visualisation. These highly visual and interactive apps will join a no/low code app ecosystem where third party apps can leverage the platform.

We're ready for a further front-end colleague to join us. We're pre-beta and so it's great timing for you to make a positive impact as we capture and implement ways users can interact with our platform and apps, releasing capabilities in data previously impossible.

You'll be encouraged to explore responsibilities, to grow, and to maintain a healthy curiosity for front-end tech and for finding better ways of working with software.

Upcoming projects

  • Prototyping, MVP and implementation of all-new web apps that manage, represent and visualise data (you'll be supported on design and UX aspects) - e.g. utilising D3, Cytoscape, Plotly
  • Breaking new ground in the visualisation of graph data, allowing complex graphs to be displayed and manipulated more creatively and intuitively
  • Collaborating with back-end colleagues, to implement the platform's tools, consoles and dashboards
  • Establishing best practises for user interaction and feedback, and ensuring consistent implementation across the apps
  • Identifying improvements to the front-end architecture to promote and facilitate reuse and consistency
  • Automating front-end testing
  • Supporting dialogue with customers, working directly with end users
  • Helping establish our engineering culture, our methods and tooling

We're looking for

  • Someone ready to contribute to architectural, engineering and layout discussions, implementing effective solutions that empower users to achieve what they need
  • Strong front-end coding skills, applied to high quality software products
  • Ability to mentor less-experienced colleagues on front-end good practice and self-improvement
  • User empathy, and an appreciation of ergonomics for beautiful and useful applications
  • Ability to unpack complex requirements, to uphold security of sensitive data and to conform to best practises
  • A collaborative, adaptable, user-centred approach
  • A strong understanding of software engineering principles and technology agnostic
  • A depth of ability with JavaScript, and good familiarity with React - we're open to you transferring from another framework, such as Vue or Svelte
  • Good familiarity with GraphQL and REST - could implement an API

Current ecosystem - we'll welcome your influence

JavaScript | React calling Python, Node, Java, Go | Cytoscape, D3, Plotly | GraphQL | Github Actions | lightweight Kanban

Salary and benefits

  • ยฃ60,000 - ยฃ90,000+ we're keeping an open mind
  • EMI share scheme
  • 28 days holiday + bank holidays + can carry over 13 days
  • A company that values work-life balance, personal development and sustainable workloads
  • Flexible working, the hours that suit you (daily stand-up 9:30am)
  • Your preferred work location: remote, hybrid, or from a shared office space
  • Optional part-time working, let us know what you need
  • Online learning budget, encouraged to attend talks, conferences
  • Fast MacBook Pro/machine, plus support on home office costs, bandwidth etc.
  • Regular team socials and outings, within work hours or time in lieu
