Basket is hiring a
Remote Senior Flutter Engineer

Overview

We are Basket (trybasket.com) โ€“ a fresh and exciting new approach to save, share and follow the things you love, and the people who love them too. Basket keeps you organised, up to date, and helps you buy better across all shopping categories.

To continue our growth weโ€™re seeking a Senior Flutter Engineer located in London or Auckland. To excel in this role and have a positive impact on our customer success, youโ€™ll need strong production experience with Flutter (preferably e-commerce), and a glowing track record building delightful mobile experiences. We have a separate backend team and Basket is already live in production, so your key focus will be scoping and building new features, and maintaining a kickass Flutter codebase for mobile. Some native work will be required in addition to Flutter, so experience with either Swift or Kotlin is essential.

To thrive at Basket, youโ€™ll learn quickly, think big, and deliver rock-solid results in a fast-paced startup environment. Youโ€™ll balance safe decisions while proactively researching and running code experiments. Youโ€™re someone who embraces collaboration and feedback with open arms. You continuously look for ways to grow yourself, help teammates, and opportunities to make the products you work on stronger. This is a chance to join an innovative team where you will be challenged, and have significant input to shape a product we believe will become a global household name.

How We Work at Basket

At Basket, we work in 2 week development cycles with a clearly defined goal. Weโ€™re inspired by companies like Linear where quality work is more important than quantity of features released. We plan each cycle well ahead of time with team discussions, research and workshops to make sure weโ€™re making informed decisions.

Hereโ€™s how our typical cycle looks

  • 2 weeks before a cycle we plan and define requirements for features

  • 1 week before a cycle we do technical due diligence and write acceptance criteria

  • During a cycle we write code using test-driven development, test code to development and staging environments, collaborate with QA, Design and PM team members to ensure features are production ready.

What You'll Do

  • Scope and agree technical requirements for features in collaboration with design, QA and PM team members

  • Write test-driven Flutter, Dart or Native code to implement feature requirements

  • Implement animations using Lottie, Rive and Flutter frameworks

  • Maintain and improve existing code with a focus on stability and performance

  • Use application monitoring tools to identify new opportunities and fix issues

  • Explore new opportunities and Flutter features to enhance our user experience

  • Take security seriously by implementing tools, code and practices that preserve the integrity of our services and protect customer data

About You

  • Native English is essential

  • Located in, or willing to relocate to London or Auckland

  • 5+ years experience writing production code for iOS (Swift) or Android (Kotlin).

  • Mastery of Flutter and Dart with at least one published app on iOS (App Store Connect) or Android (Play Store)

  • Excellent knowledge and experience of using Firebase SDK with Flutter

  • Experience integrating and using third-party packages with Flutter, iOS and Android

  • Keen eye for good design, and enjoy collaborating with designers to implement modern, intuitive and delightful customer experiences

  • Intuitively look for ways to keep code modular, efficient, and maintainable

  • Motivated by working in a team with a flat structure where your knowledge and input have a direct impact on product definition and business success

  • Excited to learn, share and step outside of your comfort zone

Good To Have

  • University degree in computer science, or equivalent experience

  • Experience working in a VC-backed startup environment

Our Culture

Our culture is built on respect, collaboration and a drive to shake up the world of shopping. Weโ€™re at the beginning of our journey with the opportunity for new team members to lead projects, and shape services that customers interact with daily. Our team members are conscientious, deep thinkers, always striving to be awesome human beings.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value a diversity of perspectives and backgrounds at our company. We are dedicated to a policy of nondiscrimination in employment on any basis including race, colour, age, sex, religion, disability, or national origin.

Memex.Garden is hiring a
Remote Full Stack Software Engineer

Hey there,

Oliver and Vincent here, co-founders of Memex.Garden, and weโ€™re looking for a senior full-stack engineer to join our 3 person team. $7-10k/month salary plus shares in the company.

Memex is a personal & collaborative reader to collect, annotate and discuss websites, PDFs and Youtube videos. By yourself or with your team and community. We're in Beta and you can download it here: memex.garden.
This is made for DAOs, commercial and academic research teams, reading clubs and students with the need to collaboratively read and talk about web content, papers, Youtube videos and (soon) images.

Weโ€™re funded with support from Protocol Labs as well as leading people at Protocol Labs, Anaconda, Ceramic & RMRK.

Next, you'll be working on the collaborative curation and annotation workflows and on the sync between Discord and Memex Spaces to automatically extract links and conversations from there.

Here is a demo of it: https://share.descript.com/embed/njHdzaaXN9a

About the role

Youโ€™ll be the 3rd person joining our 2-person engineering team and will mainly work on the feature development. Upcoming are improvements to the collaboration experience, image support and the Discord sync.

While we use React, Typescript, Firebase and React Native, weโ€™re not looking for a checklist of technologies. Weโ€™re looking for people who can demonstrate experience and deep knowledge about programming and the surrounding skills to ship projects. (Weโ€™re not open to junior positions at this moment.)

This means the ability to analyze problems, communicate how youโ€™re going to solve them, the trade-offs involved with your approach, converting that into well-written code that your colleagues will have a good time continuing on and transferring knowledge. We value how much certain ideas and technologies fit the problem at hand and the overall architecture of the product, not which technologies are hot at at the moment.

We do combine simple ideas in exciting ways to allow us to achieve much more with a small team and create a developer experience only found in our company, with much more to come. This enabled that 95% of Memex was built by only 2 devs.

Hereโ€™s some other more things important to us:

  • The hurry to get out features and the need to clean up code so we can continue to ship quickly are at constant odds with each other. You can identify whatโ€™s needed to keep us nimble and are good at communicating that to developers and non-developers alike.
  • Youโ€™re passionate about opportunities you see to make the product and our experience working on our project great and clearly communicate advantages and trade-offs, but you recognize the different perspectives will enhance your ideas, or show that your idea is not the right fit for a particular context.
  • You value simple code that is easy to understand over smart code that people are afraid to change or costs needless effort to dive into (including for your own sake after youโ€™ve forgotten how the cleverness works.)
  • You can clearly communicate how much autonomy or guidance you need to get things done, but can also concisely keep people who depend on your work up to date and provide them with what they need to get their things done.
  • Weโ€™re building a platform encouraging the encounter of opposing ideas, and are strong proponents of free speech and care for our fellow humans. So even though we may intensely disagree, we recognize those who we disagree with as people with fundamental rights and human needs. We donโ€™t like to nurture cultures of cancelling, labelling people with all sorts of -isms and one-sided views across the political spectrum. Lets rather look under the hood and be curious about different viewpoints.

Why are we building Memex?

On our own we canโ€™t possibly understand the majority of polarising topics we encounter every day. However, we all search, filter, read and take notes about content online and produce information valuable to other people.

Memex aims to make sharing recommendations and conversations become so easy that we can share what we normally are be too busy to share, build on each othersโ€™ research and easily compare contrary ideas

We think that for a healthy social media environment it needs:

  • Companies that donโ€™t have such strong profit maximisation incentives that usually lead to extractive business practices like attention/ad-based business models or lock ins
  • People with the ability to modify their own experience of a newsfeed and notifications
  • Freedom of speech, but not necessarily freedom of reach
  • Reduce need for centralised moderation through communal and individual content moderation

The economics behind Memex

We are a Steward Owned organisation in order to prevent profit maximisation incentives that lead to extractive business models and practices, while still giving the company the ability to grow big and fast. To enable that investors and team have a capped return on their investments and company can never be sold. We can get pretty rich if we are doing a good job, but not become billionaires.

We believe there is no collective intelligence without individual intelligence. For individual intelligence to be expressed in a digital space we need to be able to adapt our tools & connect workflows that individually suit our needs. The uncapped investor returns of VC money are the root cause of lock-ins that significantly hinder the emergence of an open knowledge society and collective intelligence that is able to overcome the complex challenges of our time.

Works that shape how we develop Memex:

Type:\n\nRemote, permanent, full-time position\n\nKey Skills:\n\nTypescript, Javascript, AWS (Lambda, RDS, S3, Security Measures and Scaling), Deployment & CI/CD Automation, Appstore (iOS & Google Play) experience.\n\nPitch:\n\nDo you have a soft spot for profitable companies with a meaningful, globally used and loved product? Would you like to work within a compact, super-capable team in a refreshing work environment? Would you like to work on an application that is changing the way we learn and communicate? Drops could be the place for you.\n\nAbout us:\n\nOur goal at Drops is to ensure effective language learning through a delightful, seamless, gamified experience. We strive to be the #1 app for vocabulary learning. Our app has been live on the App Store for 4 years, covering 43 languages, serving over 30 million users across the globe and has been featured on both the App Store (App of the Day) and Play Store (App of the Year in 2018). Drops has also been featured by TechCrunch, FastCo, Forbes, CNN, Bloomberg, VentureBeat and many, many more. In short, weโ€™re a tiny but very powerful team spread (mostly) across Europe, achieving great things the remote way! In December 2020, Drops was acquired by Kahoot!, the worldโ€™s leading game-based learning platform\n\nCheck us out here: https://languagedrops.com\n\nAbout you:\n\nYouโ€™ve been working within product companies for a while now and have extensive backend and infrastructure engineering experience. Perhaps you were a key team member that nursed a startup to technical success or you hit the ground running in an already successful growth company. There are bonus points up for grabs for backend/technical lead or principal engineer experience!\n\nYouโ€™re a no-nonsense individual with senior level experience, comfortable in implementing projects across the backend. Be it feature work or infrastructure tech debt, youโ€™ve got a solid understanding of type safe development, comfortable working with databases, writing serverless business logic and operating in an AWS infrastructure. You enjoy the challenge of solving internal technology hurdles while growing a product with millions of MAU. Scaling is one thing, but taking ownership and delivery of security and standards is another important part of the role.\n\nDrops is a deliberately small, but super effective team. Youโ€™re naturally drawn to the fate of the products & driven to grow as an engineer rather than to manage people\n\nThe role:\n\nYou are excited by variety (itโ€™s the spice of life!) - In this role, youโ€™ll be:\n\nDeveloping backend features for an app deployable to both web and app stores\nBuilding internal infrastructure/tooling within AWS and GCP\nEnhancing platform security\nKeeping our build times down in automation, deploying and testing\nEnsuring our availability is in the 5 9โ€™s category\nYouโ€™ll be a core part of the engineering team, working on both our main products (Drops, Droplets, Scripts & Visual Dictionary) and internal development challenges with split work between backend feature development and infrastructure challenges.\n\nYou will:\n\nSupport the product team through feature development and bug fixing\nScaling and enhancing security across infrastructure/ops work\nWork with the CTO on the backend technical roadmap, vision and take responsibility for delivering the improvements\nCommunicate effectively with product managers, QA engineers, frontend developers and the marketing team\nAssist in levelling up our engineers through individual talent development pipelines, demos and learning sessions\nBe part of our on-call rota across the engineering team (1 in 5)\n\n\nWhatโ€™d be different here:\n\n\nWeโ€™re a small team. Weโ€™re optimising for impact, not for headcount. Youโ€™ll be carefully considering any tradeoff that would lead to increased complexity\nWe have robust coding standards and every pull request needs review and approval before it lands in master. We use the rebase workflow and we release a few times a week\nWeโ€™re currently using a single programming language - TypeScript. There are however better placed technology for different jobs which weโ€™d love explore\nOur backend is AWS, deployed multi-region to Lambda and using RDS for our DB. We use Buildkite and Bitrise for our CI\nWeโ€™re using react native on the frontend\nWeโ€™re using Cognito and Firebase for authentication\nWe are BIG on AB testing. We focus on releasing high impact projects and minimise noise\nWeโ€™re doing things in a functional way, concentrating state, minimising side effects and making dependencies explicit. Weโ€™re sharing 98%+ of the code between Android, iOS and Web\nOur biggest challenge is (and will remain) managing the complexity of sharing a lot of code between different apps\nRequirements\n\nYou have:\n\nExtensive experience in software/product development within senior roles\nExperience building apps in a functional environment (serverless)\nExperience architecting and developing complex web or mobile apps\nExperience in scaling internal tooling, promoting development best practices and prioritisation (and ensuring delivery) of technical debt\nProject management experience (everyone manages projects at Drops)\nStrong verbal and written communication skills\nExperience working in a product growth environment\nDrops values clear, honest communication and transparency. Itโ€™s the linchpin of our culture, success and freedom. Youโ€™ll be involved in both high and low level decision making and available during European working hours (10AM - 6PM CET).\n\nBenefits\n\n๐ŸŒ All the perks of remote working\n๐Ÿ‘ฅ An awesomely compact 24 person team\n๐Ÿง  Yearly educational allowance\n๐Ÿ’ช Fitness allowance\n๐Ÿ’ป High-end Apple hardware and ergonomic accessories\n๐Ÿ– 36 days of holiday per year\nโœˆ๏ธ Quarterly team gathering somewhere in the world (Amsterdam, Iceland, Lisbon and Budapest were previous locations) - Once we can move freely of course \n\nPlease mention the word **NICELY** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RNDQuMjAxLjk1Ljg0). About the Role\n\nRoboflow is hiring our third full-time engineer on the machine learning team to contribute to the core machine learning tools and infrastructure that underpin the Roboflow platform. This role will inevitably involve wearing a lot of hats. Wide-ranging curiosity and enthusiasm for diving into abstract problems, coming up with good solutions, and seeing them through to completion are essential responsibilities.\n\nOur core belief is that computer vision is a foundational technology that is going to transform nearly every industry. This is an opportunity to shape how millions of developers will experience and use it for the first time. Your contribution will have a massive impact.\n\nWe anticipate the role being focused 60% on backend, 20% on machine learning, and 20% on other areas. You certainly don't need to be an expert in all of these areas; but should be excited to learn new skill sets as you need them. We also hope you'll bring some new knowledge and experiences you can share to help level-up the rest of the team. The above tools span code in our machine learning stack to date - your opinions on new technologies that we adapt for new tasks will be highly valued.\n\nWhat We Need From You\n\nOn the machine learning team, we primarily work on building and maintaining technology within Roboflowโ€™s training, search and deployment services, but from time to time we're also helping deliver on enterprise contracts, and coding awesome open source projects and sample projects.\n\nIn the beginning, you will be tackling projects in close collaboration with your fellow machine learning and product team members. As you progress in your knowledge of Roboflowโ€™s mission and tools, you will have a wide degree of freedom to advocate for and drive your own projects. If you need a rigid list of tasks spelled out in a multi-month roadmap, this role probably won't be a good fit.\n\nWeโ€™re especially keen to add some rigor to our processes and build the foundation for scaling the engineering organization and the machine learning team.\n\nTechnology\n\nOur goal is to build the world's best computer vision infrastructure so our users don't have to. This means we handle a lot of challenging complexities like seamlessly ingesting dozens of data formats, processing millions of images per day, and deploying auto-scaling machine learning infrastructure that can handle our customers' most demanding training and deployment needs.\n\nOur core app sits atop Firebase with assistance from auto-scaling groups of Docker containers (for jobs like archiving datasets and training models). We also heavily lean on serverless infrastructure so we can gracefully deal with bursty traffic involved in manipulating datasets that can range anywhere from one hundred to one million images.\n\nOur machine learning infrastructure runs in AWS, with a few deployments spanning into GCP. We train and deploy various state of the art models in a variety of machine learning frameworks. All of our machine learning applications are closely integrated with the core Roboflow web application.\n\nWe also maintain a library of Colab notebooks our customers can use to train common computer vision models, a directory of public datasets, and a web of format specifications. We see building and supporting mini-projects like these that are helpful to the community at large as part of our role in democratizing computer vision.\n\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to Machine Learning, Content Writing, Marketing, Engineer, Full Stack, Firebase and Serverless jobs that are similar:\n\n $70,000 — $110,000/year\n \n\n#Location\nRemote

Roboflow is hiring a
Remote Full Stack Engineer

Roboflow is rapidly expanding our engineering team to address the groundswell of user and customer needs. Over 100,000 developers (spanning from students to individual hackers & hobbyists to startups to employees of some of the worldโ€™s biggest companies) have now used Roboflow to build computer vision projects. Soon, every developer will have computer vision as a tool in their toolbox. Roboflow will be for computer vision what Microsoft was for the PC and Google was for the Internet.\n\nThe Opportunity\n\nWeโ€™re looking for strong technical generalists to contribute to our core product and help us build the foundation for our rapidly expanding company.\n\nAs an integral part of our early team, this role will inevitably involve wearing a lot of hats. Wide-ranging curiosity and enthusiasm for diving into abstract problems, coming up with good solutions, and seeing them through to completion is essential.\n\nOur core belief is that computer vision is a foundational technology that is going to transform nearly every industry. This is an opportunity to shape how millions of developers will experience and use it for the first time. Your contribution will have a massive impact.\n\nThe Role\n\nYou'll be tasked with a wide range of projects. Each engineer has a realm they focus on, but we're still small enough that we don't have the luxury of deep specialization. We're looking for technical generalists that arenโ€™t afraid to dive into a new stack or toolchain if the need arises (but JavaScript and Node.js make up the brunt of the existing codebase).\nMost of the things we work on are parts of the core product (which is an end-to-end pipeline for building computer vision projects spanning from image ingestion to annotation to training and deployment) but from time to time we're also working on things like integrating marketing and sales tools, fighting fires, automating internal processes, and open source projects.\n\nYou'll have a wide degree of freedom to advocate for which projects you think should be highest priority and will contribute to our strategy decisions. If you need a rigid list of tasks spelled out in a multi-month roadmap, this role probably won't be a good fit.\n\nThe majority of our codebase is written in JavaScript, our machine learning and image processing pipeline is in Python. We run primarily on Firebase and GCS, with some machine learning infrastructure on AWS. We're increasingly using Docker (both internally and for customer facing products like our edge inference server). A lot of our code runs in the browser (including some Tensorflow JS) but we're also working on building APIs and client libraries in several languages.\nYou certainly don't need to be experienced in all of these areas; but should be excited to learn new skill sets as you need them. We also hope you'll bring some new knowledge and experiences you can share to help level-up the rest of the team.\n\nWeโ€™re especially keen to add some rigor to our processes and build the foundation for rapidly scaling the engineering organization (for example: we currently have limited tests and are not using an opinionated front-end framework -- things that will need to change over the coming months in order to be able to seamlessly expand the team).\n\n\n\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to Content Writing, Marketing, Engineer, Full Stack, JavaScript, Firebase, Microsoft and Sales jobs that are similar:\n\n $67,500 — $100,000/year\n \n\n#Location\nRemote

๐Ÿ‘‰ Please reference you found the job on Remote OK, this helps us get more companies to post here, thanks!

Job title: \nSenior Backend Engineer\n\nType: \nRemote, permanent, full-time position \n\nKey Skills: \nTypescript, Javascript, AWS (Lambda, RDS, S3, Security Measures and Scaling), Deployment & CI/CD Automation, Appstore (iOS & Google Play) experience.\n\nPitch:\nDo you have a soft spot for profitable companies with a meaningful, globally used and loved product? Would you like to work within a compact, super-capable team in a refreshing work environment? Would you like to work on an application that is changing the way we learn and communicate? Drops could be the place for you.\n\nAbout us:\nOur goal at Drops is to ensure effective language learning through a delightful, seamless, gamified experience. In December 2020, Drops was acquired by Kahoot!, the worldโ€™s leading game-based learning platform\n\nCheck us out here: https://languagedrops.com\n\nAbout you:\nYouโ€™ve been working within product companies for a while now and have extensive backend and infrastructure engineering experience. Perhaps you were a key team member that nursed a startup to technical success or you hit the ground running in an already successful growth company. There are bonus points up for grabs for backend/technical lead or principal engineer experience! \n\nYouโ€™re a no-nonsense individual with senior level experience, comfortable in implementing projects across the backend. Youโ€™re naturally drawn to the fate of the products & driven to grow as an engineer rather than to manage people\n\nThe role:\nYou are excited by variety (itโ€™s the spice of life!) - In this role, youโ€™ll be:\n\nDeveloping backend features for an app deployable to both web and app stores \nBuilding internal infrastructure/tooling within AWS and GCP\nEnhancing platform security\nKeeping our build times down in automation, deploying and testing\nEnsuring our availability is in the 5 9โ€™s category\n\nYouโ€™ll be a core part of the engineering team, working on both our main products (Drops, Droplets, Scripts & Visual Dictionary) and internal development challenges with split work between backend feature development and infrastructure challenges.\n\nYou will:\n\nSupport the product team through feature development and bug fixing \nScaling and enhancing security across infrastructure/ops work\nWork with the CTO on the backend technical roadmap, vision and take responsibility for delivering the improvements\nCommunicate effectively with product managers, QA engineers, frontend developers and the marketing team\nAssist in levelling up our engineers through individual talent development pipelines, demos and learning sessions \nBe part of our on-call rota across the engineering team (1 in 5)\n\nWhatโ€™d be different here:\n\nWeโ€™re a small team. Weโ€™re sharing 98%+ of the code between Android, iOS and Web\nOur biggest challenge is (and will remain) managing the complexity of sharing a lot of code between different apps\n\nYou have:\n\nExtensive experience in software/product development within senior roles\nExperience building apps in a functional environment (serverless)\nExperience architecting and developing complex web or mobile apps\nExperience in scaling internal tooling, promoting development best practices and prioritisation (and ensuring delivery) of technical debt\nProject management experience (everyone manages projects at Drops)\nStrong verbal and written communication skills \nExperience working in a product growth environment\n\nDrops values clear, honest communication and transparency. Itโ€™s the linchpin of our culture, success and freedom. Youโ€™ll be involved in both high and low level decision making and available during European working hours (10AM - 6PM CET).\n\nBenefits:\n๐ŸŒ All the perks of remote working\n๐Ÿ‘ฅ An awesomely compact 25 person team\n๐Ÿง  Yearly educational allowance\n๐Ÿ’ช Fitness allowance\n๐Ÿ’ป High-end Apple hardware and ergonomic accessories\n๐Ÿ– 36 days of holiday per year\nโœˆ๏ธ Quarterly team gathering somewhere in the world (Amsterdam, Iceland, Lisbon and Budapest were previous locations)\n\n \n\nPlease mention the words **RESPONSE CRUSH KETCHUP** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RNDQuMjAxLjk1Ljg0). This is a feature to avoid spam applicants. Companies can search these words to find applicants that read this and see they're human.\n\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n $70,000 — $100,000/year\n \n\n#Location\nBased in the EU
