\nAbout The Role\n\n\nYard Stick is looking for a Director of Business Development to help us fight climate change with soil.\nTo date, two-ish people have done the bulk of Yard Stickโ€™s customer discovery, business development, commercial strategy-setting, and selling: Chris Tolles (CEO)  and Kelsey Chan (Head of Growth + Partnerships). To accomplish our ambitious climate impact and commercial revenue goals, Yard Stick must transition from being primarily a founder-led sales effort to one with dedicated team members and expertise 100% focused on growing the companyโ€™s top line. We have demonstrated incredible early traction and are ready to accelerate our efforts to win more and bigger contracts for work in our wheelhouse, namely soil C stock quantification on row crop and grazing agricultural soils in the US. \n\n\nWeโ€™re looking for a biz dev powerhouse to build on our existing foundation and take commercial growth to the next level. This person will get inside the heads and hearts of our customers, build trust with prospects (often over months and longer!), iterate on our marketing/messaging for maximum resonance, craft home-run proposals, and generally sell the shit out of our offering.\n\n\nThis role must both be the type to knock down a door driving toward a signed contract, and be incredibly curious and empathetic in the way they collaborate with other Yard Stick stakeholders, both external and internal. Scientists and farmers alike know that climate-friendly agricultural practices have the potential to remove atmospheric CO2 at gigaton/year scale. That said, the #1 KPI for this role is revenue signed, so with the right raw materials (e.g. tech maturity, basic market assets, strategic clarity), which youโ€™ll help create and refine, youโ€™ll win big soil carbon measurement contracts for the company quickly and consistently. Youโ€™ll identify the right customer targets, create account and customer segment strategies, plan outreach, present demos and proposals, negotiate contracts, and assist in smooth handoff to our Customer Success team as projects kick off. \n* Build and own a healthy sales pipeline: You know the company goals and will execute effective inbound and outbound sales strategies to meet them. Yard Stick is a small, young, ambitious company. We move very quickly and have big goals. You understand the pace of early-stage tech startups and can move at a similar pace yourself. An appetite for growth means you know what a high-growth company feels like and expects, and youโ€™re signing up for that experience. \n* Prior experience and/or relationships in agriculture, soil science, carbon markets, land use, MRV, and similar. Where Fortune 500 companies have access to negotiating power, emerging technology, and high-quality / expensive benefits consultants, SMBs are ill-equipped to fight-back today. This is causing SMBs, now more than ever, to explore alternative benefits options to FI, evidenced in part by the massive spike in level-funded plan adoption over the last 12-24 months.\n\nSounder Benefits plans to upend this cycle and give power back to SMBs by placing them on a path to self-funding. Our differentiated tech and services platform provides purpose built services to our SMB clients: (i) benefits consulting, (ii) data and analytics / AI capabilities, and (iii) additional benefits products (e.g., launching a group captive that helps SMBs pool risk and negotiate better contracts under our tech and services platform). \n\nOur offering is significantly differentiated from traditional brokers with better incentives, more innovative tech, and new product offerings overtime, ultimately driving more savings for SMBs (potentially as much as 20%+ YoY). \n\nWhat youโ€™ll do:\n\n\n* Mentor and coach the CEO with a focus on commercialization and product strategy, fundraising preparation and execution, and / or operational design and execution.\n\n* Introduce CEOs to prospective partners, investors, customers, vendors etc. by leveraging their own professional networks.\n\n* If company is pre-CEO: Actively participate in all aspects of CEO hiring; including advising on target profiles, providing referrals, and serving as an interview panelist in close partnership with Redesign Healthโ€™s CEO Talent team.\n\n* Provide talent referrals and participate in interviewing prospective founding team candidates.\n\n* Vote on material business decisions reserved for the Board (e.g., stock option grants, debt incurrence, equity financing, M&A).\n\n* Collaborate with other board members and the CEO during Board meetings to discuss key strategic decisions (e.g., M&A, strategic pivots, GTM approach, pricing design).\n\n* Participate in KPI reviews to ensure the company is on track to achieving milestones.\n\n* Review business development activities and sales pipeline/pitches. Able to demo different technology solutions, i.e. Portal, EMR connectivity and advise on hardware & software to enhance workflow efficiencies..\n\nDevelops and maintains "core" knowledge of competitive products, services, technology solutions, and reimbursement/billing issues.\n\nDemonstrates "core" level knowledge of anatomical pathology, technology solutions and competitive strategies through the use of company resources, on the job training, in house literature, marketing material, and sales brochures.\n\nEngages with on-site hospital billing departments to follow-up on specific claim details to support proper hospital payment, as appropriate.\n\n\n\nRequired Skills:\n\nDeep domain knowledge of the Diagnostic Services industry.
