*tl;dr: We're looking for a strong C++ dev with experience creating great Linux apps to lead development of our new client.*\n\n## **Who we are**\n\n**[Tuple](https://tuple.app/)**ย is a macOS app for remote pair programming (with aย **[Linux client](https://tuple.app/linux)**ย on the way).\n\nWe (**[Ben](https://twitter.com/r00k)**,ย **[Spencer](https://twitter.com/spencercdixon)**, andย **[Joel](https://twitter.com/robamaton)**) founded the company three years ago because we disliked pairing over Slack and Zoom. We believed that by focusing on remote pairing exclusively, we could create a tool that developers would actually like.\n\nTurns out we were right! We've grown to millions in revenue and tens of thousands of paid users in three years without any outside funding. Our product is used by the savvy engineers at companies like Shopify, Stripe, Spotify, and Netflix.\n\n(Want the latest on how things are going? Ben hostsย **[a weekly podcast](https://artofproductpodcast.com/)**ย where he shares regular updates.)\n\n## **Role overview**\n\nFor the first 4 years of its life, Tuple was available only on macOS. However, our users kept requesting a Linux client (and we love making our users happy), so we decided to build one.\n\nOver the last year, we split the old app into a macOS-specific component and a cross-platform real-time communication engine (using customized WebRTC under the hood).\n\nAdditionally, we've created a Linux version of our application (built atop the cross-platform engine) and launched a small alpha to early users.\n\nOn March 1st, 2022, we hope to make the (now polished, reliable, and close to feature parity) Linux version of Tuple generally available.\n\nThis project is currently owned by our CTO, with support from the rest of our 3-person Engineering team.\n\nWe're looking for someone with significant Linux app development experience to join this project, make substantial contributions, and quickly take over primary responsiblity for development of the Linux client.\n\nThis role reports to our CTO,ย **[Spencer](https://twitter.com/spencercdixon)**.\n\n## **Things you'll do a lot**\n\n- Collaborate with our Product Designer to turn mocked-up features into shipped code\n- Pair program with our other engineers to spread knowledge, foster connections, and make work more fun\n- Collaborate with folks in Success/QA to fix bugs affecting our customers\n- Use your hard-won wisdom to make savvy architectural decisions about the codebase\n- Provide feedback to our Product folks about how to make the app feel at home in the Linux ecosystem\n- Write tests for your code to prevent regressions\n\n## **Must-haves**\n\n- Warmth, kindness, and a willingness to pair program regularly (using Tuple, obvi)\n- Deep knowledge of C++ and C\n- Significant experience with UNIX/POSIX\n- A work day with 4+ hours of overlap with Boston's\n- Multiple years of experience building apps with GTK\n- Comfort debugging distro-specific issues (you probably have 5+ VMs on your machine already)\n- Comfort interfacing with X11 APIs\n\n## **Nice-to-haves**\n\n- Experience with PulseAudio APIs\n- Experience with GTKMM\n- Experience with OpenGL\n- Experience writing tests with Catch2\n- Experience distributing Linux apps with Snap, Flatpak, or AppImages\n- Knowledge of the GNOME HIGs and an interest in building apps that are good citizens on the platforms they target\n- Upstream patches merged into GTK or GTKMM/other open source GTK app examples\n- You know what LFS is and maybe even completed it yourself\n- You've written your own widget toolkit and event loop on top of X11 for fun/education\n- You have a well groomed dotfiles system\n\n## **Why you might want to work with us**\n\n- We're quite small (fewer than 10 employees), so there are no layers of bureaucracy to work through. You can have a huge impact here.\n- We rarely have meetings and are very flexible on work schedules.\n- Our team is warm and friendly but highly productive.\n- You'll have a front-row seat at an early-stage, fast-growing company. If you hope to start your own thing someday, this could be good preparation.\n\n## **Why you might not want to work with us**\n\n- Tuple is a complicated app! There will be lots to learn before you can be truly productive.\n- While we host several in-person retreats per year, you'll spend most of your time working remotely.\n\n## **Salary**\n\nWe're looking for someone great, not someone cheap. If you're expensive but amazing, we'll make it work. \n\nPlease mention the word **EBULLIENCE** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMjE2LjczLjIxNi4yMg==). \nLet's start with why we exist.\n\nFleet builds open source software to manage and secure computing infrastructure: employee laptops, cloud servers, and more. Our technology helps IT and security teams build trust within their organization, while getting their jobs done more effectively.\n\nFleet is an all-remote company with experienced founders, including two creators of popular open source projects and a compelling lead investor. (We're 100% remote. No office. Frontend\n\nFleet’s frontend is a single page application (SPA) written in JavaScript with React and Redux. We strive for “convention over configuration”, offering a user experience that helps security and IT staff enjoy their jobs. There are many interesting challenges in helping our users understand the data collected from their laptops and servers.\n\n\n* Experience building and architecting SPAs in JavaScript/Typescript (2+ years of equivalent experience with React specifically.)\n\n* Expert CSS skills (we use Sass)\n\n* Ability to recommend and implement frontend testing patterns (E2E tests, etc.)\n\n* Nice to have: Experience developing responsive applications.\n\n* Nice to have: Familiarity with frontend performance profiling and optimization.\n\n* Nice to have: Experience building data visualizations (graphs, charts, etc.)\n\n* Nice to have: Experience with React Native, Electron.js, or similar.\n\n\n\n\nII. Backend\n\nFleet’s server is written in Go with go-kit. Deployments range from single servers to over 100,000 clients connected to horizontally scaled Fleet servers, handling tens of thousands of requests per minute. We aim to keep Fleet’s deployment as simple as possible to ease self-hosted deployment. MySQL and Redis are used for persistence and caching.\n\n\n* Experience building scalable, production quality servers.\n\n* Ability to recommend and implement backend testing patterns (E2E tests, etc.)\n\n* Familiarity with server and SQL performance profiling and optimization.\n\n* Familiarity with database migration strategies.\n\n* Nice to have: Experience programming with Go and go-kit.\n\n* Nice to have: Experience with Redis and/or MySQL.\n\n* Nice to have: Experience deploying and operating hosted SaaS services.\n\n* Nice to have: Experience working with Mobile Device Management (MDM) APIs.\n\n* Nice to have: Experience deploying/monitoring/managing containers with Docker/K8s\n\n\n\n\nIII. Endpoints\n\nFleet builds on top of the osquery agent (osquery.io), a Linux Foundation OSS project. Our CTO co-created osquery and serves on the Technical Steering Committee. On the endpoint we are building Orbit, a wrapper for osquery that will also become our platform for deploying additional open-source software such as Fleet Desktop (an interface for device users to interact with Fleet).\n\n\n* Experience developing applications on macOS, Linux, and/or Windows.\n\n* Familiarity with packaging tools: macOS .pkg, Linux .deb, Linux .rpm, Windows .msi, etc.\n\n* Familiarity with service persistence: macOS launchd, Linux systemd, Windows Services, etc.\n\n* Experience with building cross-platform user interfaces.\n\n* Experience managing and debugging performance of software installed on endpoints.\n\n* Readiness to write code that will directly impact performance for hundreds of thousands of people.\n\n* Nice to have: Go (for Orbit) and C++ (for osquery) programming experience.\n\n* Nice to have: Experience building and securing update systems for endpoint software.\n\n* Nice to have: Experience with low-level system APIs in macOS, Linux, and/or Windows.\n\n\n\n\nPlease include a few sentences about your experience with the Engineering Foundations in the "Experience" box of the application. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n

\nSenior developer\n\nClosing date: Open until filled\n\nDo you love modern web technologies? Are you a team player who likes solving difficult problems together? Do you want to join one of the UK’s most exciting tech start-ups and play a key role in developing an ambitious product with a global impact?\n\nFlourish is empowering the world to visualize and tell stories with data. It enables anyone to create beautiful graphics, presentations and interactive stories without coding. Since our launch in 2018, more than 500,000 registered users have produced more than 5 million graphics, which have racked up more than ten billion views.\n\nOur customers include leading newsrooms (such as BBC and FT), major corporates (such as Goldman Sachs and Moody’s), NGOs (Amnesty, Rockefeller) plus universities all over the world.\n\nWe’re looking for a senior developer to join our team, reporting to the head of software development.\n\nThe role\n\nYou’ll be the technical lead in one of our small development teams, overseeing the creation of significant new features on the Flourish platform. Your team will:\n\n\n* Develop new features for Flourish, using modern web technologies\n\n* Maintain standards for web performance, security and accessibility\n\n* Build automated tests and improve the observability of the codebase\n\n* Pair-program and review code\n\n* Help improve the way we work and the tools we use\n\n\n\n\nThis is a thoroughly hands-on development role: most of your time will be spent working with code. But you will also mentor and manage other developers and work closely with the product team.\n\nThis role is focused on the Flourish back-end platform rather than the visualization templates, which are developed separately.\n\nAbout you\n\nYou are an experienced developer who enjoys working collaboratively and loves to learn new things. You care deeply about the quality of your work and are thoughtful about how to improve both what you’re doing and how the team works together. You’re happy to adopt existing conventions of the code base.\n\nImportantly, you’re excited by Flourish and the opportunity to make it better. You’re a friendly colleague and you work well in a close-knit team.\n\nMust-have skills\n\n\n* A deep understanding of the web platform\n\n* At least five years experience as a full-stack developer\n\n* Strong JavaScript and Node.js skills\n\n* Competence with command-line Linux and shell scripting\n\n* Good SQL skills\n\n* Be comfortable using Git for version control, and understand why clear history matters\n\n* Familiarity with working practices such as test-driven development, continuous integration and continuous delivery\n\n* Experience of agile methodologies\n\n* Awareness of security best practices for web applications\n\n\n\n\nNice-to-have skills\n\n\n* AWS (S3, EC2, IAM, etc)\n\n* PostgreSQL\n\n* Infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Puppet\n\n\n\n\nPerson attributes\n\n\n* An enthusiasm for learning and teaching\n\n* A systematic approach to solving problems\n\n* A love of the web and an interest in performance\n\n* The ability to give feedback kindly and receive feedback\n\n\n\n\nAbout us\n\n\n* \n\nOur tech stack: Some of the technologies we use include Node.js, Express; Postgres, Redis; Handlebars, Sass; AWS; Cypress; GitHub, CircleCI, Sentry. We don’t expect you to have worked with all of these, but any you have are a plus.\n\n\n* \n\nOur company: Flourish is a small team combining decades of collective experience in development, data, design, visualization and journalism/publishing. Read more about the team.\n\n\n* \n\nOur culture: We’re a friendly and supportive group that values kindness, honesty and fun. We’re open and try new things with enthusiasm. And we’re high-momentum, focused on delivering magical products that our users love. We socialise as a team at least once a month.\n\n\n* \n\nOur interview process: We make our hiring process fast and straightforward. Typically there is brief initial call and online screening test, followed by an interview designed to be rigorous but friendly and collaborative. We’ll ask you to do some pair-programming with us, to get a sense for how you communicate, but we don’t do stressful whiteboard coding.\n\n\n* \n\nOur location: We are largely a UK-based team, with a few exceptions. We used to be based in a fun office in Clerkenwell in central London. This was closed at the start of the COVID crisis, and we intend to get a new office in London in 2021, most likely in the Shoreditch area, but we do support remote working.\n\n\n\n\n\nBenefits\n\n\n* Salary from £60–80k depending on skill and experience\n\n* Remote working is welcome (the majority of our development team is remote), though after lockdown lifts, it would be a plus if you could be at our London office every few weeks for sprint planning/retros and socials\n\n* ‘20% time’ for developers on Fridays - you can choose what to work on, as long as it’s relevant to the company’s mission\n\n* Share options in a rapidly growing company\n\n* Flexible hours, and respect for work/life balance (not “startup hours”)\n\n* Lots of potential for career progression\n\n* 30 days’ annual holiday\n\n\n\n\nTo apply\n\nSend a CV, and a covering letter explaining why you’re interested in this role and how you meet the description above, to [email protected]. Please use the subject line “Software Engineer”. Got questions about the job? Feel free to email us for a chat.\n\nWe’re committed to equality and diversity in the tech industry, so we’ll be especially happy to see applications from under-represented backgrounds.\n\nSorry, but we won’t be able to sponsor visas for this role: please do not apply if you do not already have the right to work in the UK. We are not accepting applications from recruitment agencies for this role.\n\nNot right for you?\n\nPlease spread the word instead! And join our mailing list to stay posted about Flourish. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n

\nVarSome.com is the world’s prime reference for genetic variant interpretation. With over 500 citations in scientific papers and 300K users, we are seeking to bring together all human expertise in molecular genetics and make it available to doctors and researchers worldwide to improve the lives of their patients.\n\nYou will be joining our front-end development team as an experienced JavaScript front-end web developer - depending on experience this can become a team-lead role. Our core frontend technologies include the ReactJS Javascript framework but we also utilize the Vue JS framework on particular applications, using webpack to bundle CSS, LESS or SASS and Javascript code into reusable components. A Python based REST API layer backed by a high-performance C++ back-end and proprietary database formats optimised for genetic information, provides data to our frontend stack. Our platform is entirely Linux based, hosted in Google Cloud as well as our own high-security data-centre. We follow an Agile development process, most projects will touch multiple developers across the stack, but we keep individual tasks small (3 to 5 days) to remain responsive and deliver consistently.\n\nYour main responsibility will be to deliver an integrated suite of interactive UI components. You will play a key role in their design, working with back-end developers and genetic experts, to ensure our users are able to work efficiently and accurately. We deal with vast quantities of scientific data which presents a real challenge in understanding how best to display it, providing many opportunities for innovation. \n\nThis is a fully remote role: our core development team is located around Athens (though even our local staff work mostly from home), with other developers in the UK & Switzerland.
