Also always verify you're actually talking to the company in the job post and not an imposter. A good idea is to check the domain name for the site/email and see if it's the actual company's main domain name. Scams in remote work are rampant, be careful! Read more to avoid scams. About Us

At Close, we're building the sales communication platform of the future. With our roots as the very first sales CRM to include built-in calling, we're leading the industry toward eliminating manual processes and helping companies to close more deals (faster). Since our founding in 2013, we've grown to become a profitable, 100% globally distributed team of ~55 high-performing, happy people that are dedicated to building a product our customers love.

Our appโ€™s frontend is a single-page JavaScript web app mostly written in Reactย (originally built with Backbone.js). We bundle with Webpack and target only modern browsers. We test with Jest and React Testing Library. Our UI updates in near real-time and is written in LESS/CSSย (withย flexbox and grid layout) using CSS modules and takes advantage of fun technologies like Websockets and WebRTC.

We care about performance (e.g. route-based code splitting), maintainability, and testability of our frontend code. We sweat the UI/UX details and work collaboratively with the Product team throughout the design process. This means diving into lo-fi wireframes, and communicating continuously when those ideas are brought to life using Figma and code.

Our frontend app is built on top of our REST API & GraphQL endpoints. Our backend tech stack consists of Python/Flask, MongoDB, Postgres, Elasticsearch, and Redis. We run our services in Docker on AWS.

We โค๏ธ open sourcing our code and ideas on our GitHub and on The Making of Close, our behind-the-scenes Product & Engineering blog. Check our projects such as react-custom-scroller, use-infinite-scroll, use-abortable-effect, and smart-tooltip-delay or insights from our day-to-day work on such as Highlights From a Complex Downshift.js Refactor, A Case Study in"Reactizing" a Complex Backbone View, and Finding the cause of a memory leak in Jest tests.

About You

We're looking for an experienced full-time Frontend Engineering Manager to join our engineering team. You should be an empathetic leader, have spent part of your career as a senior-level engineer, and want to help build & grow a team of high-performing engineers.

You should have senior-level (4 years+) experience building modern frontend applications, preferably using React or similar framework.

You should have significant experience (2 years+) leading and growing a team of engineers. You enjoy helping engineers thrive and grow in their roles. You should have a very good idea of how to run 1:1s with your direct reports and how to form strong relationships. You should be comfortable with giving continuous feedback and doing performance reviews. You are expected to grow the team as-needed and help lead a hiring process.

You have a track record of managing engineering teams that delivered great products and features. You should be very comfortable working with the Product and Design teams to formulate product ideas, skilled at writing & reviewing technical specifications, and planning work for your team. You can take on non-critical path technical work if time allows.ย

Youโ€™re comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with a medium-sized talented team where you're supported in your efforts to grow professionally. You are able to manage your time well, communicate effectively, and collaborate in a fully distributed team.

You are located in an American time zone.

Bonus points if you have...

  • Experience practicing theย Shape Upย product development methodology
  • Experience scaling a small engineering team into a few teams
  • Experience building JS-based mobile apps
  • Built B2B SaaS products
  • Experience with sales or sales tools

About the Role

  • Manage and grow a team of 4-8 high-performing engineers, support them through 1:1s and continuous feedback, and support their career growth.
  • A mix of team leadership, people management, product ideation, project coordination, and maximum 10% of your time spent on non-critical path IC work.
  • Work with a team of mostly-senior engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver great features.
  • Manage and optimize development processes as the team grows.
  • Participate in creating a long-term frontend strategy.

Why work with us?

  • Culture videoย ๐Ÿ’š
  • 100% remote companyย (we believe in trust and autonomy)
  • Choose between working 5 days/wk (standard full-time) or 4 days/wk @ 80% pay
  • Annual team retreatsย โœˆ๏ธ
  • Quarterly virtual summits
  • 5 weeks PTO + Winter Holiday Break
  • 2 additional PTO days every year with the company
  • 1 month paid sabbatical every 5 years
  • Co-working stipend
  • Revenue Share (after 1 year)
  • Paid parental leave
  • Medical, Dental, Vision with HSA option (US residents)
  • 401k matching at 6% (US residents)
  • Dependent care FSA (US residents)
  • Contributor toย Stripe's climateย initiativeย ๐ŸŒโค๏ธย
  • Our story and teamย ๐Ÿš€
At Close, everyone has a voice. We encourage transparency and practice a mature approach to the work-place. In general, we donโ€™t have strict policies, we have guidelines. Work/life harmony is an important part of our business - we believe you bring your best to work when you practice self-care (whatever that looks like for you).ย ย

We come from 16 countries located in 5 of the 7 continents -- looking at you Antarctica and Australia ;-) โ€ฆ.. Weโ€™re a collection of talented humans rich in diverse backgrounds, lifestyles, and cultures. Every year we meet up somewhere around the world to spend time with one another. These gatherings are an opportunity to strengthen the social fiber of our global community.

Unanimously, our favorite and most impactful value is โ€œBuild a house you want to live in.โ€ We strive to make decisions that are authentic for our people and help our customers become more successful.

Our application process was designed to promote equitable and unbiased hiring practices. We ask a small series of questions that are similar to what would be asked in the first interview. This helps us learn more about you right from the start so please be sure to answer each question thoughtfully. Each application will receive two screens by two different reviewers. Regardless of fit, you will hear back from us letting you know if we'll be moving forward.

Silverfin is hiring a

Remote Senior Ruby Engineer

If youโ€™re any good at Ruby, this is probably not the first job ad youโ€™ve seen, so weโ€™ve done our best to stand out while also accurately presenting what weโ€™re all about. If it sounds like you would enjoy working with us, donโ€™t hesitate to apply or drop us a line with questions on [email protected].\n*Ahum. Here it comes.*\n### Whatโ€™s a Silverfin?\nAt Silverfin weโ€™re trying to apply the promise of software to the age-old industry of accounting. With our SaaS weโ€™re automating a large chunk of the busy-work that accountants are currently handling manually, and are building new tools so they can provide better services to their customers. We aim to optimize their workflow in such a way that accountants can spend more time on the much more impactful and rewarding work of advising their customers, the business owners.\nThe good news is weโ€™re succeeding in doing exactly that. Every day more than 15.000 financial service professionals use Silverfin to help and advise more than 200.000 businesses. Our customers adore us! The even better news is thereโ€™s still plenty left to work on, and thatโ€™s where we hope you come in.\n### What makes the engineering team at Silverfin special?\nWeโ€™re a remote-first engineering team of 25 people distributed in 14 different countries. A priority for us is maintaining proper work-life balance. We avoid meetings as much as possible, accept deadlines only when absolutely necessary, and never expect anyone to work longer hours than theyโ€™ve signed up for. A day in our working lives is pretty boring, and we feel thatโ€™s exactly how it should be.\nWorking with us means you can be flexible with your schedule. Itโ€™s OK to disappear for a few hours in the middle of the day to run some errands, get a haircut, pick up the kids โ€” whatever reason, you donโ€™t need to explain yourself. You also fully decide when you take time off: our team is sufficiently varied and well organized that there are always enough people around to handle the load, and in the rare cases itโ€™s not, we will decrease the load instead of asking people to move their holiday.\nBeing remote-first means we favor asynchronous communication. We donโ€™t shy away from chatting in Slack, but the important decisions or discussions are done in Gitlab issues, over email, or in our wiki, so thereโ€™s a written, persisted record. Weโ€™re mindful of maintaining long chunks of focussed time, which means we avoid @-mentions or PMs on Slack, and other triggers and interrupts. We encourage using Slackโ€™s DnD function, especially when youโ€™re not working!\nWeโ€™d be really happy to welcome you in our #engineering channel, but itโ€™s not just virtual: we make sure we regularly get to see each other in real life too. Twice a year we fly the whole engineering team together to a different location in Europe, and at least once a year we join up with the rest of the company so we can spend some time together with the other departments.\n### What does working at Silverfin look like?\nWe work in nimble teams around 5 people in size, with each team taking ownership of a specific set of features of the application. Teams are responsible for a full slice across the stack, so both the backend as well as the frontend of each part is maintained by the same people. [Find here more information about our engineering teams.](https://engineering.silverfin.com/engineering-teams/)ย \nYouโ€™ll be supported by our UI designer who develops and maintains HTML and CSS components into a reusable UI-framework, and even builds Vue.js prototypes where necessary, handling compatibility problems with different browsers for you, and making sure everything is responsive as well.\nOur ops team ensures things run smoothly, deploys happen correctly, and will work with you when issues should arise. Weโ€™re enthusiastic followers of the devops mindset, which means ops and developers work together to solve problems, and empower each-other to be self-sufficient, instead of throwing problems over the wall to the โ€œother sideโ€.\nOur stack is Vue.js and vanilla JS with a sprinkling of jQuery on the frontend and an up-to-date Rails monolith on the backend. We use PostgreSQL and Redis for persistence and caching, and everything is running on a Kubernetes cluster in Google Cloud. Our daily tools include GitLab, Quip and Slack, with Zoom as our remote conferencing tool of choice.\nNo code gets deployed without a code-review by a peer and testing is a must. Our pipeline automates deployment when the suite is green, and deploys happen dozens of times a day. Each team is currently doing Kanban, but theyโ€™re free to follow whatever process suits them best. There are regular retros held to work towards continuous improvement.\nSoftware for accountants is not considered to be very exciting, but we have our fair share of technical challenges. To give you a sense of scale: our database exceeds 10TB * , and our largest table has crossed the 10 billion row mark a long while back. We interface with more than 30 different external APIs, and provide third parties an API of our own.\n*: Our ops team noted that this actually isnโ€™t that hard to achieve if youโ€™re just indexing everything, but it still sounds impressive, right?\n### What does your future look like?\nPersonal growth is key to staying motivated. At Silverfin you donโ€™t need to move to management in order to advance. We see the individual contributor track and the management track as two different growth paths which every engineer can follow and switch between. You can be promoted, including pay raises, as a contributor just like as a manager.\nEveryone has a โ‚ฌ1000 yearly budget to spend on conferences, courses, workshops or other training to improve their skills and level up. This also includes accommodation, travel costs. If the conference is on a workday youโ€™ll get paid like any normal day.\nWeโ€™re looking to hire a lot of new colleagues, and weโ€™d like to have a couple of more teams in the future. Each new team would also need a new teamlead, and we prefer to promote from within the engineering team. This means if youโ€™d like to step onto the management track, there will be plenty of opportunities to do so in the near future. We pro-actively keep track of who would be interested, and provide feedback and learning opportunities to work towards such a goal.\n### What are we looking for?\n* Youโ€™re experienced in both Ruby and Rails, and also understand where the boundaries lie between them. You can code in Ruby without any of Railsโ€™ training wheels if necessary.\n* Youโ€™re up for mentoring coworkers and can give in-depth, productive feedback during code reviews. While you appreciate the small stuff, you recognize bikeshedding and can avoid its pitfalls.\n* You code with reason and can justify the important decisions you made during development.\n* You can communicate clearly in English, both written and verbally.\n* You know and can apply best practices when relevant. That means the usual like version control, testing, and refactoring; but also higher level concepts such as good object oriented design.\n* You're aware of the trade-offs involved in proper engineering and can make balanced business decisions, keeping in mind all the stakeholders of the project.\n* Youโ€™ve got opinions on code design and you can discuss them, but youโ€™re professional enough to not let those opinions get in the way of a consensus if necessary.\n### What can we offer you?\n* Actual, proper work-life balance\n* A salary range of โ‚ฌ60.000 - โ‚ฌ100.000 a year\n* Choose your own working hours and work 100% remotely\n* Personal growth training and opportunities\n* Join a distributed remote-first engineering team with 25 colleagues in 14 different countries\n* A refreshing work environment with professional, friendly and welcoming colleagues\n* A โ‚ฌ1000 yearly budget for conferences, courses, workshops or other expenses that will improve your skills\n* We offer monthly company-wide [Wellbeing Days](https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/wellbeing-days-silverfin-stefaan-arryn/?trackingId=rsbUepctTTaBPaiTLvi7Kg%3D%3D) for all employees (10 days off in 2022)ย \n### Requirements\n* You have at least 4 years of experience working with Ruby, or 2 years of experience with Ruby and 4 years in one or more other programming language.\n* You get Rails\n* Your work hours have some overlap with EU business hours (we require your local timezone to be within CET +/- 3h)\n### Nice to haveโ€™s\nThese would be nice but are definitely not necessary. When applying for jobs, you should NEVER have to pay to apply. You should also NEVER have to pay to buy equipment which they then pay you back for later. Also never pay for trainings you have to do. Those are scams! NEVER PAY FOR ANYTHING! Posts that link to pages with "how to work online" are also scams. Don't use them or pay for them. Also always verify you're actually talking to the company in the job post and not an imposter. A good idea is to check the domain name for the site/email and see if it's the actual company's main domain name. Scams in remote work are rampant, be careful! Read more to avoid scams. Silverfin is hiring a

Remote Senior Ruby Engineer

If youโ€™re any good at Ruby, this is probably not the first job ad youโ€™ve seen, so weโ€™ve done our best to stand out while also accurately presenting what weโ€™re all about. If it sounds like you would enjoy working with us, donโ€™t hesitate to apply or drop us a line with questions on [email protected].\n\n*Ahum. Here it comes.*\n\n### Whatโ€™s a Silverfin?\n\nAt Silverfin weโ€™re trying to apply the promise of software to the age-old industry of accounting. With our SaaS weโ€™re automating a large chunk of the busy-work that accountants are currently handling manually, and are building new tools so they can provide better services to their customers. We aim to optimize their workflow in such a way that accountants can spend more time on the much more impactful and rewarding work of advising their customers, the business owners.\n\nThe good news is weโ€™re succeeding in doing exactly that. Every day more than 15.000 financial service professionals use Silverfin to help and advise more than 200.000 businesses. Our customers adore us! The even better news is thereโ€™s still plenty left to work on, and thatโ€™s where we hope you come in.\n\n### What makes the engineering team at Silverfin special?\n\nWeโ€™re a remote-first engineering team of 25 people distributed in 14 different countries. A priority for us is maintaining proper work-life balance. We avoid meetings as much as possible, accept deadlines only when absolutely necessary, and never expect anyone to work longer hours than theyโ€™ve signed up for. A day in our working lives is pretty boring, and we feel thatโ€™s exactly how it should be.\n\nWorking with us means you can be flexible with your schedule. Itโ€™s OK to disappear for a few hours in the middle of the day to run some errands, get a haircut, pick up the kids โ€” whatever reason, you donโ€™t need to explain yourself. You also fully decide when you take time off: our team is sufficiently varied and well organized that there are always enough people around to handle the load, and in the rare cases itโ€™s not, we will decrease the load instead of asking people to move their holiday.\n\nBeing remote-first means we favor asynchronous communication. We encourage using Slackโ€™s DnD function, especially when youโ€™re not working!\n\nWeโ€™d be really happy to welcome you in our #engineering channel, but itโ€™s not just virtual: we make sure we regularly get to see each other in real life too. Twice a year we fly the whole engineering team together to a different location in Europe, and at least once a year we join up with the rest of the company so we can spend some time together with the other departments.\n\n### What does working at Silverfin look like?\n\nWe work in nimble teams around 5 people in size, with each team taking ownership of a specific set of features of the application. Teams are responsible for a full slice across the stack, so both the backend as well as the frontend of each part is maintained by the same people. [Find here more information about our engineering teams.](https://engineering.silverfin.com/engineering-teams/)ย \n\nYouโ€™ll be supported by our UI designer who develops and maintains HTML and CSS components into a reusable UI-framework, and even builds Vue.js prototypes where necessary, handling compatibility problems with different browsers for you, and making sure everything is responsive as well.\n\nOur ops team ensures things run smoothly, deploys happen correctly, and will work with you when issues should arise. Weโ€™re enthusiastic followers of the devops mindset, which means ops and developers work together to solve problems, and empower each-other to be self-sufficient, instead of throwing problems over the wall to the โ€œother sideโ€.\n\nOur stack is Vue.js and vanilla JS with a sprinkling of jQuery on the frontend and an up-to-date Rails monolith on the backend. We use PostgreSQL and Redis for persistence and caching, and everything is running on a Kubernetes cluster in Google Cloud. Our daily tools include GitLab, Quip and Slack, with Zoom as our remote conferencing tool of choice.\n\nNo code gets deployed without a code-review by a peer and testing is a must. Our pipeline automates deployment when the suite is green, and deploys happen dozens of times a day. Each team is currently doing Kanban, but theyโ€™re free to follow whatever process suits them best. There are regular retros held to work towards continuous improvement.\n\nSoftware for accountants is not considered to be very exciting, but we have our fair share of technical challenges. To give you a sense of scale: our database exceeds 10TB * , and our largest table has crossed the 10 billion row mark a long while back. We interface with more than 30 different external APIs, and provide third parties an API of our own.\n\n*: Our ops team noted that this actually isnโ€™t that hard to achieve if youโ€™re just indexing everything, but it still sounds impressive, right?\n\n### What does your future look like?\n\nPersonal growth is key to staying motivated. At Silverfin you donโ€™t need to move to management in order to advance. We see the individual contributor track and the management track as two different growth paths which every engineer can follow and switch between. You can be promoted, including pay raises, as a contributor just like as a manager.\n\nEveryone has a โ‚ฌ1000 yearly budget to spend on conferences, courses, workshops or other training to improve their skills and level up. This also includes accommodation, travel costs. If the conference is on a workday youโ€™ll get paid like any normal day.\n\nWeโ€™re looking to hire a lot of new colleagues, and weโ€™d like to have a couple of more teams in the future. Each new team would also need a new teamlead, and we prefer to promote from within the engineering team. This means if youโ€™d like to step onto the management track, there will be plenty of opportunities to do so in the near future. We pro-actively keep track of who would be interested, and provide feedback and learning opportunities to work towards such a goal.\n\n### What are we looking for?\n\n* Youโ€™re experienced in both Ruby and Rails, and also understand where the boundaries lie between them. That means the usual like version control, testing, and refactoring; but also higher level concepts such as good object oriented design.\n* You're aware of the trade-offs involved in proper engineering and can make balanced business decisions, keeping in mind all the stakeholders of the project.\n* Youโ€™ve got opinions on code design and you can discuss them, but youโ€™re professional enough to not let those opinions get in the way of a consensus if necessary.\n\n### What can we offer you?\n\n* Actual, proper work-life balance\n* A salary range of โ‚ฌ60.000 - โ‚ฌ100.000 a year\n* Choose your own working hours and work 100% remotely\n* Personal growth training and opportunities\n* Join a distributed remote-first engineering team with 25 colleagues in 14 different countries\n* A refreshing work environment with professional, friendly and welcoming colleagues\n* A โ‚ฌ1000 yearly budget for conferences, courses, workshops or other expenses that will improve your skills.\n\n### Requirements\n\n* You have at least 4 years of experience working with Ruby, or 2 years of experience with Ruby and 4 years in one or more other programming language.\n* You get Rails\n* Your work hours have some overlap with EU business hours (we require your local timezone to be within CET +/- 3h)\n\n### Nice to haveโ€™s\n\nThese would be nice but are definitely not necessary. Donโ€™t worry if none of the following applies to you.\n* Experience as a remote worker in a fully remote team\n* Experience working with large datasets and the problems they bring\n* Experience in Fintech\n* Accounting knowledge\n\n### Interested?\n\n* [Read about what our interviewing process looks like](https://engineering.silverfin.com/engineering-interview-process/)\n* [Apply for the job right here](https://grnh.se/e21a38802us)\n* Or email us with any questions on [email protected] \n\nPlease mention the words **DISEASE REPORT RETIRE** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMjE2LjczLjIxNi4xODA=). **About Us** \n\nAt [Close](https://close.com), we're building the sales communication platform of the future. With our roots as the very first sales CRM to include built-in calling, we're leading the industry toward eliminating manual processes and helping companies to close more deals (faster). Since our founding in 2013, we've grown to become a profitable, 100% globally distributed team of 43 high-performing, happy people that are dedicated to building a product our customers love.\n\nOur appโ€™s frontend is a single-page JavaScript web app mostly written in React (originally built with Backbone.js). We bundle with Webpack and target only modern browsers. We test with Jest and React Testing Library. Our UI updates in near real-time and is written in LESS/CSS (with flexbox and grid layout) using CSS modules and takes advantage of fun technologies like Websockets and WebRTC.\n\nWe care about performance (e.g. route-based code splitting), maintainability, and testability of our frontend code. We sweat the UI/UX details and work collaboratively with the Product team throughout the design process. This means diving into lo-fi Freehand wireframes, and communicating continuously when those ideas are brought to life using Figma and code.\n\nOur frontend app is built on top of our REST API & GraphQL endpoints. Our backend tech stack consists of Python/Flask, MongoDB, Postgres, Elasticsearch, and Redis. We run our services in Docker on AWS.\n\nWe โค๏ธ open source โ€“ using dozens of open source projects with contributions to many of them, and released some of our own like [react-custom-scroller](https://making.close.com/posts/introducting-react-custom-scroller-component), [use-infinite-scroll](https://making.close.com/posts/introducting-use-infinite-scroll-react-hook), [use-abortable-effect](https://making.close.com/posts/introducting-use-abortable-effect-react-hook), [backbone-testing-library](https://github.com/closeio/backbone-testing-library), [smart-tooltip-delay](https://making.close.com/posts/introducing-smart-tooltip-delay-library), [Microphone Recorder to Mp3](https://github.com/closeio/mic-recorder-to-mp3), [filevalidator.js](https://github.com/closeio/filevalidator.js), [addresscompiler](https://github.com/closeio/addresscompiler), [backbone.mousetrap](https://github.com/closeio/backbone.mousetrap), and more at https://github.com/closeio.\n\n**About You**\n\nWe're looking for an experienced full-time (or part-time) Frontend Software Engineer to join our engineering team. Someone who has a solid understanding of web technologies and wants to help design, implement, and launch major user-facing features.\n\nYou should have senior level experience(~5 years) building modern frontend applications in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, with at least 3 years of that experience using React.\n\nYou should have significant experience designing, debugging, and optimizing frontend applications to make them fast and reliable. You have significant experience with REST APIs and thoroughly understand HTTP requests. You have experience participating in code reviews and providing overall code quality suggestions to help maintain the structure and quality of the codebase.\n\nYou should have great product sense and be able to think through user experience issues before diving into the code, and you exhibit a love for great UI.\n\nYouโ€™re comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with a small and talented team where you're supported in your efforts to grow professionally. You are able to manage your time well, communicate effectively and collaborate in a fully distributed team.\n\nYou are located in an American or European time zone.\n\n**Bonus points if you have:**\n\n* Experience implementing real-time (e.g. websockets, polling, etc.) web apps\n* Experience working with GraphQL endpoints\n* An eye for design and experience with Figma, Sketch, Abstract, Photoshop, or similar\n* Led small project teams building and launching features\n* Contributed open source code (core or plugins) for a popular frontend framework such as React, Vue, or Angular\n* Built B2B SaaS products\n* Experience with sales or sales tools\n\n**Come help us with projects like:**\n\n* Conceiving, designing, building, and launching new user-facing features\n* Working with Twilio's API, WebSockets, and WebRTC to improve our [calling features](https://close.com/calling/)\n* Building user-facing analytics features that provide actionable insights based on sales activity data\n* Improving real-time collaboration user experience\n* Expanding our frontend GraphQL usage\n* Extending our React component library\n\n**Why work with us?**\n\n* [Culture Video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbyGnLhtj0o&feature=youtu.be)๐Ÿ’š\n* 100% remote-first company (we believe in trust and autonomy)\n* 2 x annual team retreats โœˆ๏ธ ([Lisbon Retreat Video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKjyXMz-q-Q)) - when travel is appropriate\n* 4 x quarterly virtual summits\n* 7 weeks PTO (includes company-wide winter holiday break)\n* 1 month paid sabbatical after 5 years\n* $200/month coworking stipend\n* Revenue Share (after 1 year)\n* Paid parental leave (10 wks primary caregiver / 4 wks secondary caregiver)\n* 99% premiums paid for excellent medical and dental coverage, including an HSA option (US residents)\n* 401k matching at 6% (US residents)\n* Dependent care FSA (US residents)\n* [Our story and team](https://close.com/about/)๐Ÿš€\n\nWe are a small team doing great things - every role is critical to the success of this company. People that are most successful at Close have a resourceful, โ€œdoerโ€ approach and mentality. We focus on productivity, impact and quality of work. Weโ€™re looking for team members that genuinely understand the nature of being part of a small team that operates in a bootstrapped / start-up-like environment.\n\nAt Close, everyone has a voice. We encourage transparency and practicing a mature approach to the work-place. In general, we donโ€™t have strict policies, we have guidelines. Life-work harmony is an important part of our organization - we believe you bring your best to work when you practice self-care (whatever that looks like for you).\n\nWe come from 12 countries and 16 states; a collection of talented humans rich in diverse backgrounds, lifestyles, and cultures. Twice a year we meet up somewhere around the world to spend time with one another (however weโ€™re opting for quarterly virtual summits during 2020/2021). We see these retreats as an opportunity to strengthen the social fiber of our community. This team is growing in more ways than one - weโ€™ve recently launched 14 babies (and counting!).\n\nUnanimously, our favorite and most impactful value is โ€œBuild a house you want to live in.โ€ We strive to make decisions that are authentic for our organization. At Close, we have a high care factor for one another, in making an awesome product and championing the success of our customers.\n \n\nPlease mention the words **STOCK RHYTHM REDUCE** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMjE2LjczLjIxNi4xODA=). **About Us**\n\nAt [Close](https://close.com), we're building the sales communication platform of the future. Our UI updates in near real-time and is written in LESS/CSS (with flexbox and grid layout) using CSS modules and takes advantage of fun technologies like Websockets and WebRTC. \n\nWe care about performance (e.g. route-based code splitting), maintainability, and testability of our frontend code. Our backend [tech stack](https://stackshare.io/close-crm/close) consists of Python/Flask, MongoDB, Postgres, Elasticsearch, and Redis. You are able to manage your time well, communicate effectively and collaborate in a fully distributed team.\n\nYou are located in an American or European time zone.\n\n**Bonus points if you have:**\n\n* Experience implementing real-time (e.g. websockets, polling, etc.) web apps\n* Experience working with GraphQL endpoints\n* An eye for design and experience with Figma, Sketch, Abstract, Photoshop, or similar\n* Led small project teams building and launching features\n* Contributed open source code (core or plugins) for a popular frontend framework such as React, Vue, or Angular\n* Built B2B SaaS products\n* Experience with sales or sales tools\n\n**Come help us with projects like:**\n\n* Conceiving, designing, building, and launching new user-facing features\n* Working with Twilio's API, WebSockets, and WebRTC to improve our [calling features](https://close.com/calling/)\n* Building user-facing analytics features that provide actionable insights based on sales activity data\n* Improving real-time collaboration user experience\n* Expanding our frontend GraphQL usage\n* Extending our React component library\n\n**Why work with us?**\n\n* [Culture video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbyGnLhtj0o&feature=youtu.be) ๐Ÿ’š\n* 100% remote-first company (we believe in trust and autonomy)\n* 2 x annual team retreats โœˆ๏ธ ([Lisbon Retreat Video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKjyXMz-q-Q)) - when travel is appropriate\n* 4 x quarterly virtual summits\n* 7 weeks PTO (includes company-wide winter holiday break)\n* 1 month paid sabbatical after 5 years\n* $200/month coworking stipend\n* Revenue Share (after 1 year) \n* Paid parental leave (10 wks primary caregiver / 4 wks secondary caregiver)\n* 99% premiums paid for excellent medical and dental coverage, including an HSA option (US residents)\n* 401k matching at 6% (US residents)\n* Dependent care FSA (US residents)\n* [Our story and team](https://close.com/about/) ๐Ÿš€\n\nWe are a small team doing great things - every role is critical to the success of this company. People that are most successful at Close have a resourceful, โ€œdoerโ€ approach and mentality. We focus on productivity, impact and quality of work. Weโ€™re looking for team members that genuinely understand the nature of being part of a small team that operates in a bootstrapped / start-up-like environment. \n\nAt Close, everyone has a voice. We encourage transparency and practicing a mature approach to the work-place. In general, we donโ€™t have strict policies, we have guidelines. Life-work harmony is an important part of our organization - we believe you bring your best to work when you practice self-care (whatever that looks like for you). \n\nWe come from 12 countries and 16 states; a collection of talented humans rich in diverse backgrounds, lifestyles, and cultures. Twice a year we meet up somewhere around the world to spend time with one another (however weโ€™re opting for quarterly virtual summits during 2020/2021). We see these retreats as an opportunity to strengthen the social fiber of our community. This team is growing in more ways than one - weโ€™ve recently launched 14 babies (and counting!). \n\nUnanimously, our favorite and most impactful value is โ€œBuild a house you want to live in.โ€ We strive to make decisions that are authentic for our organization. At Close, we have a high care factor for one another, in making an awesome product and championing the success of our customers. \n\nPlease mention the words **WORK MANDATE SHOP** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMjE2LjczLjIxNi4xODA=). If youโ€™re any good at Ruby, this is probably not the first job ad youโ€™ve seen, so weโ€™ve done our best to stand out while also accurately presenting what weโ€™re all about. If it sounds like you would enjoy working with us, donโ€™t hesitate to apply or drop us a line with questions on [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).\n\nAhum. Here it comes.\n\n\n### Whatโ€™s a Silverfin?\n\nAt Silverfin weโ€™re trying to apply the promise of software to the age-old industry of accounting. The even better news is thereโ€™s still plenty left to work on, and thatโ€™s where we hope you come in.\n\n\n\n### What makes the engineering team at Silverfin special?\n\nWeโ€™re a remote-first engineering team of 25 people distributed in 14 different countries. A priority for us is maintaining proper work-life balance. We avoid meetings as much as possible, accept deadlines only when absolutely necessary, and never expect anyone to work longer hours than theyโ€™ve signed up for. A day in our working lives is pretty boring in this regard, and we feel thatโ€™s exactly how it should be.\n\nWorking with us means you can be flexible with your schedule. We encourage using Slackโ€™s DnD function, especially when youโ€™re not working!\n\nWeโ€™d be really happy to welcome you in our #dev channel, but itโ€™s not just virtual: we make sure we regularly get to see each other in real life too. Twice a year we fly the whole engineering team together to a different location in Europe, and at least once a year we join up with the rest of the company so we can spend some time together with the other departments.\n\n\n\n### What does working at Silverfin look like?\n\nWe work in nimble teams around 5 people in size, with each team taking ownership of a specific set of features of the application. Teams are responsible for a full slice across the stack, so both the backend as well as the frontend of each part is maintained by the same people.\n\nYouโ€™ll be supported by our UI designer who develops and maintains HTML and CSS components into a reusable UI-framework, and even builds Vue.js prototypes where necessary, handling compatibility problems with different browsers for you, and making sure everything is responsive as well.\n\nOur ops team ensures things run smoothly, deploys happen correctly, and will work with you when issues should arise. To give you a sense of scale: our database exceeds 7TB, and our largest table recently crossed the 10 billion row mark. We interface with more than 30 different external APIs, and provide third parties an API of our own.\n\n*: Our ops team noted that this actually isnโ€™t that hard to achieve if youโ€™re just indexing everything, but it still sounds impressive, right?\n\n\n\n### What does your future look like?\n\nPersonal growth is key to staying motivated. At Silverfin you donโ€™t need to move to management in order to get promoted. If the conference is on a workday youโ€™ll get paid like any normal day. Silverfin colleagues regularly visit conferences across the world. Are you going to Euruko this year? Come say hi!\n\nWeโ€™re looking to hire a lot of new colleagues, and by the end of the year weโ€™d like to have a couple of more teams. Each new team would also need a new teamlead, and we prefer to promote from within the engineering team. This means if youโ€™d like to step onto the management track, there will be plenty of opportunities to do so in the near future. We pro-actively keep track of who would be interested, and provide feedback and learning opportunities to work towards such a goal.\n\n\n\n### What are we looking for?\n\n* Youโ€™re experienced in both Ruby and Rails, and also understand where the boundaries lie between them. That means the usual like version control, testing, and refactoring; but also higher level concepts such as good object oriented design.\n* You're aware of the trade-offs involved in proper engineering and can make balanced business decisions, keeping in mind all the stakeholders of the project.\n* Youโ€™ve got opinions on code design and you can discuss them, but youโ€™re professional enough to not let those opinions get in the way of a consensus if necessary.\n\n\n\n### What can we offer you?\n\n* Actual, proper work-life balance\n* A salary range of โ‚ฌ60.000 - โ‚ฌ100.000 a year\n* Choose your own working hours and work 100% remotely\n* Personal growth training and opportunities\n* Join a distributed remote-first engineering team with 25 colleagues in 14 different countries\n* A refreshing work environment with professional, friendly and welcoming colleagues\n* A โ‚ฌ1000 yearly budget for conferences, courses, workshops or other expenses that will improve your skills\n\n\n\n### Requirements\n\n* You have at least 4 years of experience working with Ruby, or 2 years of experience with Ruby and 4 years in one or more other programming language.\n* You get Rails\n* Your work hours have some overlap with EU business hours (we require your local timezone to be within CET +/- 3h)\n\n\n### Nice to haveโ€™s\n\nThese would be nice but are definitely not necessary. Donโ€™t worry if none of the following applies to you.\n\n* Experience as a remote worker in a fully remote team\n* Experience with Javascript (ES6) and frontend frameworks\n* Experience working with large datasets and the problems they bring\n* Experience in Fintech\n* Accounting knowledge \n\nPlease mention the words **DISORDER BONUS BENCH** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMjE2LjczLjIxNi4xODA=). **ABOUT US**\n\nAt [Close](https://close.com/), we're building the sales communication platform of the future. With our roots as the very first sales CRM to include built-in calling, we're leading the industry toward eliminating manual processes and helping companies to close more deals (faster). Since our founding in 2013, we've grown to become a profitable, 100% globally distributed team of ~33 high-performing, happy people that are dedicated to building a product our customers love.\n\nOur appโ€™s frontend is a single-page JavaScript web app mostly written in React (originally built with Backbone.js). We bundle with Webpack and target only modern browsers. We test with Enzyme and Mocha run via Puppeteer. Our UI updates in near real-time and is written in LESS/CSS (with flexbox and grid layout) using BEM methodology and takes advantage of fun technologies like Websockets and WebRTC. \n\nWe care about performance (e.g. route-based code splitting), maintainability, and testability of our frontend code. We sweat the UI/UX details and work collaboratively with the Product team throughout the design process. This means diving into lo-fi Freehand wireframes, and communicating continuously when those ideas are brought to life using Sketch/Abstract and code.\n\nOur frontend app is built on top of our REST API & GraphQL endpoints. Our backend tech stack consists of Python/Flask, MongoDB, Postgres, Elasticsearch, and Redis. We run our services in Docker on AWS.\n\nWe โค open source โ€“ using dozens of open source projects with contributions to many of them, and released some of our own like [Microphone Recorder to Mp3](https://github.com/closeio/mic-recorder-to-mp3), [filevalidator.js,](https://github.com/closeio/filevalidator.js) [addresscompiler](https://github.com/closeio/addresscompiler), [backbone.mousetrap](https://github.com/closeio/backbone.mousetrap) and more at [Close Github](https://github.com/closeio). \n\n**ABOUT YOU**\n\nWe're looking for an experienced full-time Frontend Software Engineer to join our engineering team. Someone who has a solid understanding of web technologies and wants to help design, implement, and launch major user-facing features.\n\nYou should have senior level experience (~5 years) building modern frontend applications in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, with at least 3 years of that experience using a JS framework (React, Vue, Angular, Backbone etc).\n\nYou should have significant experience designing, debugging, and optimizing frontend applications to make them fast and reliable. You are able to manage your time well, communicate effectively and collaborate in a fully distributed team.\n\nYou are located in an American or European time zone.\n\n**BONUS POINTS IF YOU**\n* Experience implementing real-time (e.g. websockets, polling, etc.) web apps\n* Experience working with GraphQL endpoints\n* An eye for design and experience with Sketch, Abstract, Photoshop, or similar\n* Led small project teams building and launching features\n* Contributed open source code (core or plugins) for a popular frontend framework such as React, Vue, or Angular\n* Built B2B SaaS products\n* Experience with sales or sales tools\n\n**COME HELP US WITH PROJECTS LIKE**\n* Conceiving, designing, building, and launching new user-facing features\n* Working with Twilio's API, WebSockets, and WebRTC to improve our calling features\n* Building user-facing analytics features that provide actionable insights based on sales activity data\n* Improving real-time collaboration user experience\n* Expanding our frontend GraphQL usage\n* Extending our React component library\n\n**WHY WORK WITH US?**\n* 100% Remote (*we believe in trust and autonomy*)\n* 2 x Annual Team Retreats ([Lisbon Retreat Video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKjyXMz-q-Q&feature=youtu.be))\n* Competitive salary\n* Medical, Dental with HSA option - 99% premiums paid *(US residents)*\n* 5 Weeks PTO + 6 Government Holidays + Dec 24 - Jan 1 Company Holiday\n* Parental Leave *(10 wks primary caregiver / 4 wks secondary caregiver)*\n* 401k matching at 4% *(US residents)*\n* [ Our story and team](https://close.com/about/)\n* [ Glassdoor Reviews ](https://www.glassdoor.co.uk/Reviews/Close-Reviews-E1155591.htm)\n\nAt Close, everyone has a voice. We see these retreats as an opportunity to strengthen the social fiber of our community.\n\nThis team is growing in more ways than one - weโ€™ve recently launched 8 babies (and counting!).
