Gather is hiring a

Remote Staff Software Engineer

Role overview:\n\nYouโ€™ll be responsible for the general infrastructure that underlies Gatherโ€™s services, from our game servers to our API servers. This encompasses the infrastructure-as-code, tools, configuration, automation, and scripts that build, deploy, and run our many services in cloud environments. In partnership with engineering leadership, youโ€™ll implement security best-practices, guide long-term technology decisions, and build the future of Gatherโ€™s infrastructure.\nGather's Tech Stack\n\nGather is simultaneously a modern web app, multiplayer video game, and live video conferencing platform. This means our infrastructure involves several main components, all built in-house:\n\n\n* An HTTP service to serve the site and API\n\n* A game service to handle real-time game state updates\n\n* A video service to power live video chat\n\n\n\n\nGather's Application is currently written in Typescript (frontend/backend). Prior Typescript knowledge is not a requirement for the Infrastructure team.\nFocus areas that we could use a hand with\n\n\n* Security โ€“ as Gather grows, we have ever more responsibility to ensure the safety of our systems and customer data. We need an infrastructure engineer who is security-minded. Champion the infosec cause, and build air-tight VPCs.\n\n* Networking โ€“ we need a cutting-edge and rock-solid video network. Shave latency and thrill our usersโ€ฆwith consistency.\n\n* Canary Environments โ€“ weโ€™re constantly deploying, and that requires great care. Build the mechanisms that let us detect problems before they become an incident.\n\n* Multi-cloud Infrastructure โ€“ manage, troubleshoot, and deploy to multiple Kubernetes clusters. Spread them across multiple clouds and make sure theyโ€™re up through the worst datacenter outages.\n\n\n\nWhat you bring:\n\n\n\n* Software Engineering experience in Systems (OS, Distributed, Networking, etc.), Infrastructure, Security, DevOps, SRE, or related background.\n\n* Deep knowledge of Kubernetes and the networking concepts that it relies upon. Backend Engineer - API Remote

Argyle is a fast-growing, remote-first Series B startup solving a systemic data problem.

Underneath the consumer finance industryโ€™s decisions and processes is static, analog documentationโ€”things like credit reports and paystubsโ€”designed decades ago for a world that no longer exists. Meanwhile, credit bureaus buy, move, store, and sell consumersโ€™ data without their knowledge or consent.

The result? A labyrinth of manual workflows and shortsighted underwriting models that obstruct financial access, compound operational costs, and impede innovation.

The solution is Argyle. Weโ€™re a real-time income data platform that lets our end-users instantly connect their employment records to apps and websites, so they can access and qualify for the financial resources they need to get ahead. Providers benefit from streamlined workflows and enhanced visibility that reduce costs and risk across the user journey.

Our mission is to give consumers the means to exercise ownership over their income, employment, and identity data in order to create a more equal, efficient, and effective financial system for everybody.

If youโ€™re looking to join a fun and ambitious group of people working remotely across dozens of countries, apply today.

About the team

The Systems Build at Argyle focuses on creating a modern architecture and software development practice to support rapid feature development. To join the team, you will have a strong software engineering background, have worked on systems with stringent uptime and security requirements, and may have led teams of engineers.

What will you do?

  • Design, build and maintain APIs, services, and systems across Argyle's engineering teams
  • Debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack
  • Work with engineers across the company to build new features at large-scale

You will also be involved in

  • Managing k8s clusters with GitOps driven approach
  • Operating databases with large datasets
  • Concurrent systems programming

What are we looking for?

  • Experience and a big passion for API design, scalability, performance, and end-to-end ownership
  • Strong experience in Java
  • Experience with Event-Driven Architecture
  • You hold yourself and others to a high bar when working with production systems
  • You take pride in working on projects to successful completion involving a wide variety of technologies and systems
  • You thrive in a collaborative environment involving different stakeholders and subject matter experts

Why Argyle?

  • Remote first company
  • International environment
  • Flexible working hours
  • Stock Options
  • Flexible vacation leave
  • $1000 after a month of employment to set up your home office.
  • MacBook

Argyle embraces diversity and equal opportunity. We are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. We believe the more inclusive we are, the better our company will be.

What is the job?ย

Crypto currency and decentralized finance (DeFi) are disruptive, visible, and rapidly growing areas of finance. Weโ€™re looking for a Cyber Security Analyst to join our security team, and tackle the unique security challenges our industry faces.

In this role, you will work closely with the Head of Cyber Security, supporting all areas of the business. Good security data drives informed business decisions, and this role is critical in delivering the actionable security data we need.ย

Weโ€™re a small organisation thatโ€™s growing fast, within a high-risk industry that faces regulatory challenges: weโ€™re looking for people who want the fast rate of change and complexity that comes with this territory. Facing capable and sophisticated threats, we need innovative open-minded people to help us deal with them.

What are we looking for?ย

  • You will enjoy working in an ambitious, fast-paced environment that requires critical and strategic thinking, and a willingness to collaborate to create highly visible work across multiple channels.

  • Working directly with the Head of Cyber Security, you will take visible ownership of security solutions and activities across the entire company, including:

    • Day to day security operations โ€“ monitoring and responding to security alerts and events.

    • Supporting the security team with new research, analysis, and programmes of change within the company.

    • Configure and manage security tooling used to protect company data, assets, and people.

    • Ongoing management and configuration of security tooling.

    • Support the devops team, and the wider business, with their security problems and questions.

  • Youโ€™ll be identifying new security trends, in both attack and defence, and be responsible for leading appropriate responses.

What do you need?

  • We have no formal education or certification requirements - the quality of your past work and skills will speak for itself.

  • You will need to have excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills โ€“ be prepared to show these off in the interview.

  • Evidence of ongoing work within the security ecosystem (e.g. GitHub projects, involvement in open source projects, or security research).

  • Good English verbal communication skills.

  • Assertive, passionate and not afraid to challenge conventions โ€“ strong opinions, loosely held.

  • Willingness and enthusiasm to learn, thrive and adapt in the fast-paced crypto services arena we operate within.ย

  • Ideally you will have operational experience with Google Workspaces, AWS, and a SIEM solution.

  • Solid understanding of the risks and threats SaaS and Cloud based services face โ€“ and how to deal with them.

  • Youโ€™ll need to demonstrate familiarity with MDM solutions, and understand security issues around end user devices like laptops and mobile phones, for a remote workforce.

Nice to haves:ย

  • Prior experience in FinTech and/or crypto is highly desirable โ€“ be prepared to explain how crypto currencies work, and the common security challenges.

  • Experience with Palo Alto products and technologies is an advantage.

  • Familiarity with encryption techniques and distributed teams, and a keen understanding of cryptocurrency, are distinct advantages.

Who are we?ย

At RDX Works (formally Radix DLT), we're a team of like-minded thinkers who have long been convinced that we're living in the earliest stages of a global financial revolution. This revolution is being fuelled by decentralized finance (or DeFi for short), which is enabling an assortment of pioneering developers and entrepreneurs to re-invent almost every financial product that is currently traded and invested in traditional markets, without requiring central authorities or siloed infrastructure. DeFi has captured a great deal of attention and investment in the crypto-aware niche, growing assets under management from $1 billion to $40 billion in less than a year. Impressive as its growth has been, its current market size isn't even a rounding error on the over $111 trillion held in traditional finance. We're focused on what it will take to go from billions to trillions.

RDX went back to first principles to come up with the right technical solutionโ€”the first layer-one protocol built specifically for mainstream DeFiโ€”and we have already tested out at over 1 million transactions per second. We're keenly aware that the need for an infinitely scalable platform is only one prerequisite among many for mass adoption, and we're also blazing new ground in the areas of purpose-built developer tools, user experiences, and regulatory integration.

We have forged a path deep into the future of what distributed ledger technology is going to look like and we need you to come and be part of the team that is making that happen right now.

Alternatively, if you feel like you donโ€™t match all of the requirements, we would love you to still apply anyway. We understand that confidence gaps and imposter syndrome can get in the way of meeting incredible candidates and we wouldnโ€™t want this to prevent us from meeting you; especially as we are big advocates of helping people learn & grow.

Mobile ordering and payments is an exciting and active industry full of interesting players and yet still a relatively untapped market ripe for disruption. We’re quite up-front about the technical challenges our business faces. Running a platform with multiple white-labeled front-ends, that maintains real-time connections into thousands of restaurants’ POS systems, and coordinates complex transactions between these and other third parties (such as payment gateways and gift card providers) is not for the faint of heart!\n\nWe take great pride in the reliability, security, and performance of our systems and services. We are looking for a talented Security Engineer with experience in a Blue Team role to help us fortify our defenses and protect the systems that enable hungry people to order their food quickly and securely.\n\nIn the role of Senior Security Engineer, you will design and implement the security defenses that enable our systems to keep running while protecting the data of our clients and their customers. \n\nResponsibilities\n\n\n* Detect and defend against attacks.\n\n* Review patching, firewall rules, and server configurations together with the Infrastructure team.\n\n* Respond to alerts, events, and incidents per our specified procedures and processes. \n\n* Proactively examine logs and system activity for unusual activity, adding and tweaking monitors and alerts.\n\n* Lead remediation efforts from Red Team findings.\n\n* Work with PCI and SOC auditors to provide evidence of compliance.\n\n* Support and lead AV and Endpoint technology and deployments. Automate patching and task automation of servers and desktops.\n\n* Interact with IT operational and development teams to advise on, coordinate and track mitigation and remediation activities.\n\n* Conduct Blue Team exercises and Computer Network Defense drills in order to evaluate and improve processes and technologies related to threat detection, incident response, patching, remediation and user training.\n\n* Maintain vulnerability management solutions to ensure endpoints are compliant with security guidelines.\n\n* Daily operational work includes security monitoring, patch verification, IDS alerts, FIM alerts, log analysis, forensic analysis, host configuration audits, firewall rule reviews, assisting with fraud attacks, and other security tasks.\n\n* Help diligence third party software and SaaS tools for our approved vendor list.\n\n* Proactively identify and implement improvements to our tools and processes.\n\n\n\n\nRequirements\n\n\n* Previous Blue Team experience \n\n* Proficient in current security technologies, including advanced anti-malware solutions, network forensics, and detection solutions.\n\n* Proven experience developing and leading remediation / mitigation activities, and providing status updates and reports.\n\n* Experience with Windows Desktop, Windows Server, macOS, and Linux operating systems and system administration – specifically with regard to hardening, detection, patching and compliance.\n\n* Solid experience with AWS security best practices and Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g. Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation or similar.)\n\n* Experience with both hardware and AWS networking configuration (switches, firewalls, security groups, etc) – specifically with regard to patching and compliance.\n\n* Deep understanding of networking concepts such as DMZs, subnets, VLANs, proxies, private IP addressing and NAT; protocols, ports and common services, such as TCP/IP network protocols and application layer protocols (e.g. HTTP/S, DNS, SSH, SMTP, Active Directory etc.)\n\n* Up-to-date knowledge of information technology and cyber security standards, trends, and issues. \n\n* Experience deploying, maintaining and administering security technologies including DLP systems, IDSs, WAFs, FIM, etc. \n\n* Experience with PCI and/or SOC compliance highly beneficial.\n\n* CISSP certification preferred.\n\n\n\n\nAbout Olo\n\nOlo powers digital ordering and delivery programs that connect restaurant brands to the on-demand world, placing orders directly into the restaurant through all order origination points – from a brand’s own website or app, third party marketplaces, social media platforms, smart speakers, and home assistants. Olo serves as the on-demand ordering and delivery platform across 70,000 locations for over 300 brands, such as Applebee’s, Checkers & Rally’s, Cheesecake Factory, Chili’s, Dairy Queen, Denny’s, Five Guys Burgers & Fries, Jamba Juice, Noodles & Company, Portillo’s Hot Dogs, Shake Shack, sweetgreen, Wingstop, and more. Learn more at www.olo.com.  \n\nOlo is located on the 82nd floor of One World Trade Center.  We offer great benefits, such as 20 days of Paid Time Off, fully paid health, dental and vision care premiums, stock options, a generous parental leave plan, and perks like FitBits, rotating craft beers on tap in our kitchen, and food events featuring our clients' menu items (now you know why we give out FitBits!).
