\nJob description\n\nWe're looking for a seasoned Software Engineer to lead the design and development of our back end software, services, and architecture. We’re excited to work with a respectful and collaborative engineer who thrives wearing many hats. While this position will be located in our San Francisco headquarters, the ideal candidate will be able to function effortlessly within a distributed team.\n\nIn this role, you’ll find yourself:\n\n\n* Writing well designed, testable, efficient code\n\n* Participating in all phases of the software development lifecycle while also contributing feedback and ideas during product development\n\n* Working with engineering and product to increase velocity while constantly striving to improve our internal processes and procedures\n\n* Fixing bugs and improving application performance\n\n\n\n\nSkills & requirements\n\n\n* You're an experienced Rails engineer who enjoys designing and building RESTful APIs.\n\n\n\n\n\n* You have deep knowledge and experience with data architecture and are comfortable writing raw SQL when necessary.\n\n\n\n\n\n* You pride yourself on writing elegant code and are a fan of unit testing.\n\n\n\n\n\n* You're comfortable working within the Amazon ecosystem (EC2, RDS, and S3).\n\n\n\n\n\n* You're self motivated, enjoy autonomy, and have an entrepreneurial mindset.\n\n\n\n\n\n* You’re communicative and understand how your role impacts and intersects with the larger product and development teams.\n\n\n\n\n\n* You want to help. Our founders are Linda Avey, cofounder of 23andMe.com, Mitsu Hadeishi, former Tech Director of DonorsChoose.org and senior engineer at Google, and Heather Anne Halpert, formerly UX Lead at Temboo and a leading information architect at Razorfish. We've joined forces to build an open workspace for personal well-being. You can track your mood, your sleep, your exercise, what you eat, how you feel, etc., using a web interface, mobile app, and automated tracking devices. Our system looks for patterns in your data (do you sleep better when you get more exercise?), and we also provide an intuitive graphical interface for exploring and visualizing your data. We also provide tools for sharing and discussing your questions and findings with others. We are driving towards a public release and are looking to expand our team.\n\nWe're searching for a strong engineer familiar with either front or back-end development. Specific technology experience isn't required, though Grails or Java experience is a plus. Rails or Django programmers are also welcome to apply.
