Sora Schools is hiring a

Remote High School Humanities Expert within U.S

\nImportant - Please Read: \nWe are currently accepting applications for our 2025 - 2026 school year! We will start reviewing applications and reaching out to folks in March 2025. We would love for you to apply if you are interested in joining for the 2025 - 2026 school year and will reach out in the spring if we would like to move forward with the interview process. \n\n\nAbout\nSora is a virtual middle and high school. We have fundamentally reframed the curriculum and approach followed by traditional schools. Through a combination of synchronous learning experiences (expeditions) and individual learning options (activities and independent study) students chart their own path through middle and high school. \n\n\nOur faculty lead expeditions and support student individual learning by serving as a guide and coach for our students: sparking their interests, creativity, and self-driven learning. The content of expeditions is rooted in our educational philosophy (more here!) but may be adapted to your own interests and the interests of our students. Youโ€™ll explore topical questions to help them work through their projects. One moment a student may be asking about the American Civil War and the next someone needs help with Nietzschean Philosophy. One moment a student may be asking about rocketry, and the next someone needs help with an app to address the effects of climate change. You help students think broadly and delve deeply, teaching students about your subject areas as well as areas beyond your expertise.\n\n\nAs an essential aspect of being a community of learners, experts also serve as house advisorsโ€“serving as a trusted point of contact for a group of Sora students as they explore the program and structure their Sora journey. Students often work with advisors to consider what they might want to learn next, and figure out how to overcome roadblocks.\n\n\nYou will help to build our model too: weโ€™re a unique school and a start up. We look for people excited by this. Youโ€™ll have the opportunity to push our educational model, student experience, and company forward by participating in cross-team, department, and functional projects. You will have the chance to design learning experiences and to make the ones we have even better. Whether youโ€™re interested in curriculum development, creating vibrant and engaging remote experiences, or how to run a startup, youโ€™ll have the opportunity to contribute and learn.\n\n\nSalary \nThe starting salary for full-time roles for US based candidates have an annual salary of $60,000 - $69,000/year, based on experience, plus a generous benefits package including health, dental, vision, and life insurance, a retirement plan with company matching, stock options, and generous Paid Time Off. Weโ€™re excited to build a team with diverse perspectives and backgrounds, and encourage candidates to apply even if they donโ€™t have experience in all the following areas.\n\n\nLocation\nThis is a fully remote role. To be considered for this role, you must reside in one of the following states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia,Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Nevada, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia and West Virginia.\n\n\nIf you are not living in one of the states listed above, unfortunately, you will not be considered for a position at this time. \n\n\n#LI-Remote\n\n\n\nWhat You'll Do\n* Serve as a House Advisor and coach students one-on-one: Faculty members serve as House Advisors to 18-20 students, meeting daily with the group to provide academic guidance and support. Additionally, faculty actively collaborate with students and their families throughout their time at Sora to identify and supply necessary resources and support, serving as their first point of contact and primary support person, offering feedback on their progress, and generally facilitating their educational journey at Sora.\n* Facilitate learning experiences (Expeditions, Activities, and Independent Studies) for students: Expeditions are six-week learning modules for our students, helping them develop knowledge and abilities while allowing them to explore interests. We have a growing library of expeditions developed by faculty and curriculum designers and work with faculty on developing new offerings. Activities are student self-guided learning experiences where faculty provide feedback and assessment. Independent Studies are student-developed learning experiences where faculty assist in providing expertise, coaching, feedback, and assessment.\n* Develop new learning experiences and improve current expeditions:  Faculty members will develop new learning experiences with the guidance and support of curriculum staff on an annual basis. Faculty will also continuously improve current expeditions on an ongoing basis in collaboration with curriculum staff.\n* Track student progress and goals: Using our internal software and other tools, ensure students meet their learning goals and document feedback for students, parents, and Sora team members. Provide ongoing feedback on student performance to all stakeholders.\n* Support overall school, community, and company growth: We are a new school and organization, and we look to each team member to help us build the right model, culture, processes, and policies. We are growing and will need you to grow and change with us!\n* Communicate with the team, students, and guardians: As a fully remote workplace and school, we expect each community member to communicate proactively and thoughtfully. We use internal software, Heartbeat, Zoom, and other technology to enable this.\n\n\n\nWhat We're Looking For\n* Experience: Experience should be at the secondary or postsecondary level in 2 or more of the following areas is desirable: Honors level experience with Literature, World and/or U.S. History, Philosophy, and Ancient and/or Modern Cultural Studies including Art and/or Music.\n* Student focused: Experience working high school students and a belief that adolescence is a special time of life with its own specific joys and opportunities. Youโ€™re honored to be a part of it and respect our studentsโ€™ ability to drive their own education, with our support.\n* Subject matter expertise: A broad, demonstrated understanding of the academic area, with clear expertise in various component parts.\n* Sora academic model & philosophy alignment: Appreciation for and experience with student-led, progressive education and a desire to build something new for students and for the world.\n* Excited to build a new school and education model: Interested in being part of a unique hybrid school-tech start up model and excited to dive straight into ambiguity (and resilient when we learn more and change course).\n* Critical thinking: You are intellectually curious, with strong critical thinking skills, and a deep interest in furthering your own learning.\n* Communication skills: Responsive, professional, and understand working with widely ranging stakeholders both kids and adults; proactive at building relationships in a remote setting.\n* DEIB Investment:  Invested in furthering diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging at Sora through curricular design and implementation as well as participation in the Sora community. We take seriously our commitment to build and support a widely diverse community of students, families, and team members and look for faculty members who believe that this is vital to education, and ideally have experience fostering it in the classroom.\n* Bonus Points: Experience with virtual learning, passion for independent learning, familiarity with a variety of tech tools and platforms, and/or experience in a startup environment.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Sora Schools\nOur mission is simple: build the replacement to the broken U.S. education system. No compromises, no reform. Most schools continue to do the same things theyโ€™ve always done: making students memorize content, test them, score them, and rank them. Unsurprisingly, students are losing their creativity and motivation, and are utterly unprepared to succeed in the real world. In our virtual program, middle and high school students work on passion-based projects that they get to create and take wherever they wish. They donโ€™t spend their school hours attending lecture-based classes and donโ€™t read many traditional textbooks โ€” instead, theyโ€™re building video games, writing fantasy novels, conducting scientific research, and more! They connect with industry mentors to expose them to new careers and fields of study. Students learn not only the full breadth of academic subjects but also important soft skills and subjects such as financial literacy, philosophy, and more. Our school is organized in small, tight-knit cohorts so every group of students and faculty can feel close and engaged in their community.Weโ€™ve embarked on our journey to accelerate students toward their wildest dreams. We canโ€™t wait for you to join us!\n\n\nWorking at Sora Schools\nSora offers a collaborative, team-oriented environment with colleagues who deeply care about our mission. Weโ€™re fully remote with members living around the world, and believe in flexibility to ensure we can all live a full and balanced life. We offer US full-time team members stock options, full healthcare benefits, a 401k with matching and work from home stipends.\n\n\nEqual Opportunity Statement\nSora Schools is an equal opportunity employer that is deeply committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace. We prohibit discrimination and harassment of any kind based on race, color, age, gender, religious or political beliefs, national origin or heritage, marital status, disability, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity, genetic information, pregnancy, status as a protected veteran or any characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws. Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion not only reflects our values but also enriches our ability to do our work.\n\n\nAccommodation Request\nPlease let your Sora contact know if you would like to request reasonable accommodations during your application or interviewing process. \n\n\nBackground check\nAll full-time team members are required to go through a background screening prior to employment upon hire. For new hires in the U.S., the E-Verify process will be completed in conjunction with the Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification on the first day of work to confirm that you are authorized to work in the United States.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Please reference you found the job on Remote OK, this helps us get more companies to post here, thanks!

Those are scams! NEVER PAY FOR ANYTHING! Posts that link to pages with "how to work online" are also scams. Don't use them or pay for them. Also always verify you're actually talking to the company in the job post and not an imposter. A good idea is to check the domain name for the site/email and see if it's the actual company's main domain name. Scams in remote work are rampant, be careful! Read more to avoid scams. What is the job?

Looking for challenging responsibilities in the most promising tech industry? Join us as the first QA Automation Engineer (in this particular product team) in the crypto financial industry, and you will get the most out of using new technologies and test methods.

You will accelerate your career and constantly improve technically by tackling these issues and being able to utilize the personal ยฃ2000/year budget for learning & development.

You will challenge all user scenarios and test cases to investigate all possibilities of failure across a range of Web apps, and API applications. You will make sure that happy path scenarios function as advertised, and that a massive array of potential error conditions all fail gracefully, predictably and in a meaningful way to end users.ย

During your first few months, you will start by defining the tools and frameworks required to have a complete suite of automated tests. This will involve diving into the applications features and functionality, rolling up your sleeves doing manual testing. With a better understanding under your belt, you will define test plans that can beย  automated and cover UI and API testing, as well as testing failures in any of the subsystems, including databases, third-party services or other internal services.

What are we looking for?

  • You enjoy automating everything, the thought of repeating tasks manually makes you shiver, but you understand the need to do exploratory manual testing to create test plans.

  • You have experience testing Web apps, APIs applications in a fast delivering growth environment.

  • You are a hands-on, independent product tester with experience working in a multidisciplinary team formed of designers, Front and Backend developers and DevOps.

  • Youโ€™re patient when dealing with others. Youโ€™re a good listener, and happy to be a teacher when needed.

What skills do you need?

  • You have solid demonstrable experience as a QA Automation Engineer doing end-to-end testing.

  • You love breaking things and let your creativity go wild (e.g. functional and black-box testing, regression testing, system integration testing, load testing, manual testing).

  • You are proficient in at least one programming/scripting language such as Python, C#, Java or JavaScript.

  • Experience with BDD, TDD, or contract testing.

  • Docker and Git experience is important.

  • You have good knowledge and understanding of CI/CD cycles and integration test automation with CI/CD.

Who are we?ย

At RDX Works, weโ€™re a team of like-minded thinkers who have long been convinced that weโ€™re living in the earliest stages of a global financial revolution. This revolution is being fuelled by decentralized finance (or DeFi for short), which is enabling an assortment of pioneering developers and entrepreneurs to re-invent almost every financial product that is currently traded and invested in traditional markets, without requiring central authorities or siloed infrastructure. DeFi has captured a great deal of attention and investment in the crypto-aware niche, growing assets under management from $1 billion to over $200ย  billion in a few years. Impressive as its growth has been, its current market size isnโ€™t even a rounding error on the over $400 trillion held in traditional finance. Weโ€™re focused on what it will take to go from billions to trillions.

RDX went back to first principles to come up with the right technical solutionโ€”the first layer-one protocol built specifically for mainstream DeFiโ€”and we have already tested out at over 1 million transactions per second. Weโ€™re keenly aware that the need for an infinitely scalable platform is only one prerequisite among many for mass adoption, and weโ€™re also blazing new ground in the areas of purpose-built developer tools, user experiences, and regulatory integration.

We have forged a path deep into the future of what distributed ledger technology is going to look like and we need you to come and be part of the team that is making that happen right now.

If this job sounds like it was made for you, then please apply directly via the link or email [email protected] for more information.

Check out our company benefits here - RDX Works Benefitsย ย

Alternatively, if you feel like you donโ€™t match all of the requirements, we would love you to still apply anyway. We understand that confidence gaps and imposter syndrome can get in the way of meeting incredible candidates and we wouldnโ€™t want this to prevent us from meeting you; especially as we are big advocates of helping people learn & grow. This is also another reason we do not advertise salaries, we want to keep it as even a playing field as possible!

Rise Science is hiring a

Remote Lead Product Designer

What are we working on at Rise Science?\n\nThe short answer: we exist to give all people the energy to make the most of life.\n\nOur current product, RISE, is mobile app designed to help everyone with a phone master their energy. Weโ€™re in the business of giving our customers energy. When we stay focused on that need, customers are happy.\n\n\nIt turns out that the biggest determinant of your energy levels is your sleep. However, the tools available today are focused on speciality niches. Some are trying to help you fall asleep (like Calm) and others measure every physiological asepct your sleep (like Fitbit, Whoop, & Oura). While those businesses have executed very well theyโ€™re relevant for maybe ~15% of the population.\n\nWeโ€™ve always believed thereโ€™s a significantly larger opportunity for impact by focusing on what the vast majority of us want: more energy. We all want more energy. Just last year, consumers spent a trillion dollars on caffeine alone. A trillion dollars on a drug that gives us a short-high. We believe people want real energy. We believe that people are changing how they view their health and turning to much healthier, scientifically sound solutions.\n\nWhen youโ€™re squarely focused on the need for more energy you design a much different solution than what exists. Rather than helping you fall asleep or track your sleep with hardware, our app uses behavioral data from phone to analyze how much sleep debt you have and your circadian rhythm so you can forecast exactly how much energy youโ€™ll have during the day and manage your energy.\n\nIt allows for some powerful use-cases: **\n\n* when your morning grogginess will end\n* when to stop drinking caffeine\n* when to exercise\n* when youโ€™ll be most productive\n* when to eat lunch\n* when to stop work and start watching Netflix\n* and the best time to be sleeping\n\nItโ€™s taken a decade of rigorous work and research to get here. Weโ€™ve invested millions of dollars (from the investors behind Peloton, Fitbit, Spotify, Facebook, and Twitter) and have millions of nights of data from 1m+ users - from high schoolers to pro athletes, working parents to retirees - to design and build scientifically robust algorithms to help people live the best lives possible.\n\nIf you want to see it for yourself, start a free trial.\n\nYour challenge is helping more people have confidence to give Rise a try.\nIn 2021 we had 1 million people install RISE. 200k started a trial. Your job is to ultimately increase the percent of folks who install that start a trial with us. To do that, youโ€™ll need to help our new installers to feel incredibly confident RISE will help them take control of their sleep and energy.\n\nDoing this well wonโ€™t be one of those jobs you can coast and get by. Youโ€™ll need to be ready to build. But if you put 8 hours a day of solid work, and youโ€™re the right fit, youโ€™ll directly improve the lives of millions of people in 2022.\n\nHereโ€™s why you might not be a fit:\n\nWeโ€™ve learned our day to day environment is unique. If you feel super confident about these three areas, we should talk. If not, you wonโ€™t find success in the role:\n\n* Customer problems start out fuzzy. About ~50% of the time there arenโ€™t clear patterns in similar products. If youโ€™re not an expert in collaborating with engineers and PMs to go from fuzzy to clear testable solution youโ€™ll spin your wheels and will feel unproductive.\n\n* Youโ€™ll need to design polished consumer experiences quickly, without a well established, robust design system. If youโ€™re more comfortable moving fast when working from a well established, robust design system youโ€™re going to struggle in this role. If you canโ€™t expertly and quickly build your own sensible patterns and components for native mobile, youโ€™ll feel behind. The impact to the business is that visual and interaction issues will show up clearly in the quant data which slows down progress.\n\n* The area of sleep and human energy is complex. If you arenโ€™t naturally relentless in teaching yourself, going deep on problems, digging into peer-reviewed research and books, youโ€™ll struggle to develop useful and novel solutions. We expect our product teams to become the subject matter experts. We donโ€™t lean on a board of advisors or internal sleep scientists to make day to day product decisions.\n\nCompany culture and stage\n\n* Mediocre performance results in generous severance. At our size, we can only afford to keep our highly effective people. The upside of this is that youโ€™re working with others who are performing at a really high level.\n\n* We encourage the people making, to make the decisions. Our core philosophy is that we value great people over process and we trust you to make informed decisions.\n\n* Progress and growth every day matters. If you struggle to unblock yourself quickly when youโ€™re stuck, ask for help, receive constructive feedback, or arenโ€™t extraordinarily candid, you should consider another company.\n\n* We are building a product together. Product, design, engineering all sit at the same table, and we are all listening to the user. If you donโ€™t find yourself inspired by non-designers or itโ€™s difficult for you to let go of your idea, youโ€™re not going to be happy here.\n* We donโ€™t have all the answers. If you donโ€™t enjoy being in the uncomfortable space of not knowing and figuring out how to learn the answer, this isnโ€™t for you.\n\n* We avoid rules and believe in people over process. If you do your best work in a process-driven, rules-based environment and get uncomfortable that we rely on good judgement, you wonโ€™t be happy at Rise.\n\nYouโ€™ll have every resource you need to do your best work.\n\nYouโ€™ll be part of a dedicated empowered team thats focused on the same problem you are. That means you can maximize your time focusing on discovering the right problems to solve. And then solve it well. No other fluff. You and Kellie own the strategy and have the engineering resources to build and learn quickly. Hereโ€™s a quick run-down of who youโ€™re working with:\n\n1. Kellie runs product management. Sheโ€™ll be your partner on end-to-end shipping: strategy, customer discovery, solutions & analytics. Before Rise, Kellie was a psychology researcher in stress and emotions and led mobile app growth at Wayfair.\n\n2. Greg leads backend and decided to end his PhD in cell biology to write software. Working at a science-based company is his dream job.\n\n3. Graham leads front-end. Before falling in love with front-end, he produced gangster rap beats.\n\nYouโ€™ll have data to learn incredibly quickly. Weโ€™ve instrumented our whole product for doing high quality research. Need 5 people that installed but didnโ€™t start a trial to test a prototype? We can get them on zoom in 24 hours. Youโ€™ll also know how your solutions impacted customer behavior. We ship every new feature as a randomized controlled trial. This means you can see how your solution is working leading to much better and faster iterations. Lastly, youโ€™re not starting from scratch. We know quite a bit about who these customers are and why theyโ€™re not starting trials.\n\nDesign works well at Rise. Jason, who heads our design function, has been designing interfaces professionally since 1998. He was at Rise in 2018 when it was bunch of ideas cobbled together and his work has enabled us to go from 0 to 1m+ installs last year. Heโ€™s an expert. A rare breed that has done it all. Leading big teams, being the principal designer, deep in product, deep in marketing. You get the idea. Youโ€™ll get to learn directly with him. This means thereโ€™s no problem youโ€™ll run into that he wonโ€™t be able to guide you through. Youโ€™ll find heโ€™s selfless, low ego and kind.\n\nHere are the cultural reasons we love working at Rise:\n\n1. Youโ€™ll do work most days that will directly improve peopleโ€™s lives. Each pixel you move, every word you type, will help more people feel better and be more productive. Each member of the team shares this daily mission. What you do each day directly contributes to the worldโ€™s health, happiness, productivity, and longevity. Youโ€™ll talk regularly with people whose lives youโ€™ve changed.\n\n2. Youโ€™ll work with a team where human-centered design is the center of how we develop our product and business. IDEO was our first investor and I did my Masterโ€™s in Don Normanโ€™s human-centered design program.\n\n3. Youโ€™ll collaborate with Jason, who heads design, to continue the work of developing an effective and efficient design system for use across marketing and product. As a design team of two, youโ€™ll shape the practice at Rise Science.\n\n4. One of our core values is growth. That means every week; weโ€™ll talk about how we can help you grow. What skills, experiences, people can help you get to your next career goal. For this role to be successful, it has to be a great big step in the right direction for your career, not just a job.\n\n5. If entrepreneurship is interesting to you, youโ€™ll also have a front-row seat to all the company buildingโ€™s ups and downs. Your work will be in front of some of the top consumer health investors and operators that backed and worked at teams at companies like Fitbit and Peloton.\n\n6. More than anything else, we realize that life is short. So even though weโ€™re solving an unthinkably large problem, taking time for yourself and your family is essential. Without it, we donโ€™t believe you can live your best life and do your lifeโ€™s work. And of course, weโ€™ll get your sleep in order. ๐Ÿ˜‰\n\nFAQs\n1. Who will I report to?\nYouโ€™ll technically report to me. Iโ€™ll have hiring and firing decisions.\nJason is the design functional lead. Heโ€™s responsible for coaching you on how to be successful at Rise, evolving our design culture, and if a tie-breaker is needed, making the final call on a conflicting decision.\n\n2. Why isnโ€™t Jason hiring for this role since heโ€™s head of design?\nCompany building is a team sport. Jason has critical product opportunities heโ€™s focused on and my job is maximizing his focus on that. Heโ€™ll be playing a key decision role in the interview process and of course someone youโ€™d want to work with.\n\n3. What seniority is needed for the role?\nLanguage around seniority is misleading. So whatโ€™s most important is that when you read what would disqualify you, you can point to evidence of how youโ€™d do well in our environment. Years of experience also isnโ€™t a great metric. Jason has been doing this for 23 years. But if youโ€™ve got 5 and you have the talent, this could be a great opportunity.\n\n4. What are the career growth paths?\nIt really depends on what you want which is something Iโ€™ll work with you on. When we all do our jobs really well, it creates more opportunity for more talented people to come on board.\n\n5. Compensation?\nWe know great talent deserves to get paid well in cash and equity. We donโ€™t share ranges at this stage because we donโ€™t know what skills youโ€™re coming in with and donโ€™t want to disqualify you depending on your needs. Once we have an idea weโ€™ll share our comp dataset with you so we see the same data. Weโ€™re not Facebook or Google but weโ€™re confident that weโ€™ll meet your financial needs.\n\n6. Location?\nUS-friendly hours are strongly preferred. Weโ€™re a 100% distributed team (most in Eastern and Central time in the US) and we keep our meetings to an absolute minimum. However, we work semi-synchronously collaborating on zoom so itโ€™s important to have 4+ hours overlap with US eastern time.\n\nWhat youโ€™ll need to be successful:\nExpertise in interaction design: You think in flows, not just static screens. Youโ€™ve been making it effortless for people to move around consumer applications for many years. Other designers respect your interaction skills and tap you for advice.\n\nExpertise in user-centered design methods: Customer feedback is an inspiration and something you crave to keep your creative juices flowing. You use iterations to maximize your opportunities for feedback. You know what needs to be learned, how to put together a discussion guide, facilitate the session and synthesize the findings.\n\nGood visual design fundamentals: Making the right typography choice or reworking a layout to optimize clarity is effortless for you. You know how to apply a style guide effectively but also know when to extend beyond it.\n\nCompetent writer: Youโ€™ve solved design problems with words and designed with content.\n\nSkills and experience that separate you from your peers\n\nSeveral years of mobile design experience\nData visualization chops\nWorked on products that design for behavior change\nMotion design experience\nEffective across a wide range of design tools\nIf this sounds interesting, letโ€™s talk.\nInstead of a cover letter, email me at [email protected] | Subject: โ€˜Lead Product Designerโ€˜ and include your answers to the questions below. We appreciate thoughtful responses, but please donโ€™t spend more than an hour.\n\nTell me why this opportunity feels right to you. What did you respond to in the letter?\n\nThink about your current or last job. When itโ€™s time for me to talk with your boss what would they rate your performance 1-10? Why? What were you hired to do?\n\nWeโ€™d love to understand the relevant work youโ€™ve done. If you have a tidy portfolio, feel free to send the link/pdf it will help us speed things up. If you donโ€™t have a portfolio, youโ€™ll need to get creative. \n\nWhat can you send us that would give us confidence youโ€™ve got the relevant skills? Weโ€™ll be going deep on your work in our 2nd conversation so donโ€™t spend too much time here.\n\nWhat to expect Next\nIโ€™ll hand review what you send. Iโ€™ll respond with either โ€œI donโ€™t think the fit is hereโ€ or that we should move forward with the process. If we move forward, hereโ€™s the rest of the process weโ€™ll use to learn together if this is an amazing fit for you:\n\n1. 45 min Interview: We meet over Zoom to meet each other and decide if spending more time together makes sense. Your time is valuable and we donโ€™t want to waste it.\n\n2. 60 mins Work Review: Youโ€™ve read the job letter and what we need you to do. During this conversation Iโ€™ll ask you to walk through, in detail, how youโ€™ve done this in a past job. I may invite a few team members to join.\n\n3. Paid Work Simulation: Weโ€™ll send over a take-home challenge that will let us simulate working together. This is designed to be similar to the type of work we do here at Rise Science. This stage should take no more than 3 hours, and weโ€™ll both have a clear sense of how we work together by the end.\n\n4. Team Talks: At this stage weโ€™re incredibly confident that the role will be great for you. Get to know the team youโ€™d be working with. Youโ€™ll find time with 1-4 of your potential future team members. \n\nPlease mention the word **DARING** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMy4xNS4xNDguNzY=). This is a feature to avoid spam applicants. Companies can search these words to find applicants that read this and see they're human.\n\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n $120,000 — $220,000/year\n

Remote Head of Design

\n\nโ€œFor me, open source is a moral thing.โ€\n\nโ€œHas anyone ever said, โ€˜I wish I could go to more meetings todayโ€™?โ€\n\nโ€” Matt Mullenweg\n\nWert&Co. has been retained by Automattic (the creator of WordPress.com) to fill a key leadership role as the company continues to scale and grow their business globally. We are seeking a Head of Design with a mentoring and guiding spiritโ€“โ€“with a desire to lead, support and nurture Automatticโ€™s world class team of designers and to help craft a cohesive design language.\n\nAutomattic, who recently celebrated their 10th birthday, is the engine of the independent web (over 26%! and working towards 51%!) and is committed to bringing creativity back to it.\n\nAutomatticโ€™s workforce is distributed around the world and is fully devoted to the philosophy of being Open Sourceโ€”location included. Designers operate within over 40 teams across different time zones, meeting several times a year within groups, and once a year with the company as a whole. In a virtual, asynchronous realm (they run their company without offices or email) the Head of Design will be integrally involved in the day-to-day of product development acting as an empathetic, inspired resource for designers, encouraging and guiding them on high level considerations as well as deliverables and efficiencies. The Head of Design will also act as a magnet for talent, further building rigorously driven creative teams.\n\nReporting to the CEO Matt Mullenweg, the Head of Design will be a member of the four person Bridge teamย โ€”ย the leadership board that oversees the companyย โ€”ย and will represent and evangelize design across the company as a whole. They will play a fundamental role in helping shape Automatticโ€™s continuing high growth, building upon their compelling business narrative and diverse, democratic internal culture.\n\nRole & Responsibility\n\nNurturing the continued growth, education and creativity of the 30+ designers at Automattic across many teams and cities.\n\nHiring and recruiting new design talent.\n\nBringingย the voice of everyone in a design role to the executive team. Acting as an effective facilitator between designers, team leads, and company leadership.\n\nEnsuring a consistent experience, aesthetic voice and high level of quality in everything Automattic designs.\n\nHelping designers understand the context of their work and the broader vision for Automatticโ€™s products.\n\nBeing a compassionate and effective design steward. Able to succinctly communicate the CEOโ€™s vision by creating a defined path for designers as well as communicating their aspirations reciprocally.\n\nAligning design resources to company goals and product initiatives.\n\nWork Style\n\nAble to quickly iterate designs and ideas when needed.\n\nAble to design patterns across platforms (web, mobile web, iOS, Android).\n\nEffective at building a diagram, image, prototype or mockup to convey ideas.\n\nEverything starts with research and benchmarking.\n\nGives and receives feedback with high regard for both emotional and technical concerns.\n\nEducating and teaching is better than just doing.\n\nEntrepreneurial and self-motivated. Able to operate effectively in a flat organization with minimal guidance.\n\nAbility to work cross-functionally within a geographically distributed environment.\n\nAbout Automattic by Automattic\n\nAll around the world, Building a new web, and a new workplace. We are the people behind WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Jetpack, Simplenote, Longreads, VaultPress, Akismet, Gravatar, Polldaddy, Cloudup, and more. We believe in making the web a better place.\n\nWeโ€™re a distributed company with 448 Automatticians in 45 countries. Our common goal is to democratize publishing so that anyone with a story can tell it, regardless of income, gender, politics, language, or where they live in the world.\n\nWe believe in Open Source and the vast majority of our work is available under the GPL.\n\nAutomattic Creed\n\nI will never stop learning. I wonโ€™t just work on things that are assigned to me. I know thereโ€™s no such thing as a status quo. I will build our business sustainably through passionate and loyal customers. I will never pass up an opportunity to help out a colleague, and Iโ€™ll remember the days before I knew everything. I am more motivated by impact than money, and I know that Open Source is one of the most powerful ideas of our generation. I will communicate as much as possible, because itโ€™s the oxygen of a distributed company. I am in a marathon, not a sprint, and no matter how far away the goal is, the only way to get there is by putting one foot in front of another every day. Given time, there is no problem thatโ€™s insurmountable.\n\nAutomattic Designer Creed\n\nI take pride in my craft. I ensure that everyone โ€” regardless of ability or device โ€” can use my designs. I routinely ask for feedback, even when itโ€™s uncomfortable. I regularly watch people use my designs, because testing leads to clarity. I will never stop at โ€œgood enoughโ€.\n\nTo apply, please get in touch with Wert&Co.\n\nWant to increase your chances of standing out? If so, please include answers to each of the following question in your email application:\n\nWhatโ€™s a counter-intuitive thing that great design organizations do?\n\nTell us about a coach or leader that had a big influence on how you approach and think about design.\n\nโ† Work With Us\n\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to Design, Digital Nomad, Teaching, Education and Mobile jobs that are similar:\n\n $70,000 — $120,000/year\n
