The team manages our hardware infrastructure, internal networks, and user-facing products such as shared file system service, object store, managed Kubernetes, VPCs, and compute. The teamโs goal is to provide a reliable and scalable platform so that both users and Paperspace can run their applications easily and reliably.\nย \nAs a Staff Engineer, youโll contribute your technical leadership and expertise to release and maintain high-quality products at Paperspace. In collaboration with fellow engineers, product managers, and designers, youโll be working on hard problems that will greatly impact the business. In addition, you will work to maintain and shape engineering standards through mentorship, cross-team collaboration, and leading by example.\n\nWhat we're looking for\n\nโข 8+ years relevant industry experience in a fast-paced, high growth tech environment building and scaling infrastructure using engineering practices with languages such as Python or Go\nโข Fluency in working with config management tools (Ansible, Salt, Puppet, Chef) and infrastructure management tools (Terraform or Pulumi) to support immutable infrastructure\nโข Experience with metric-driven monitoring and alerting using Prometheus or another monitoring system\nโข Experience with networking and large-scaled storage architectures\nโข Familiarity with Kubernetes automation, monitoring, stability, and security including tools like helm and customize\nโข Experience shipping high-quality products from planning to launch to maintenance\nโข Proven experience collaborating across teams ranging from platform and infrastructure to product and marketing\nโข Ability to make trade-offs effectively in regards to both engineering and product requirements, while also effectively balancing short term and long term needs\n\nWhat you'll be doing\n\nโข Be a leader in the areas of reliability, scalability, developer experience, and system observability on the Cloud Platform team\nโข Architect and consult on infrastructure needs to move products forward with a focus on reliability, scalability, and observability\nโข Automate all parts of our internal and user-facing infrastructure and systems to minimize manual intervention and to create clear, sustainable team run processes\nโข Work with fellow engineers to find ways to address their infrastructure needs and provide self-service tools to empower them\nโข Manage and improve our Ceph based storage system across multiple regions\nโข Automating and maintain our software-defined network products and ensure reliability\nโข Facilitate a sustainable software delivery process using tests, code reviews, and best practices\nโข Build relationships with engineers and mentor on productivity and best practices from a technical perspective\nโข Working with other teams to find a well-balanced implementation for products\n\nWhat to expect\n\nIn your first month, you will be hitting the ground running as you join the Engineering Team. Youโll be learning about our engineering workflows, technical architecture, and current product/business initiatives. In parallel, youโll be making small to moderate code changes, engaging in the code review process, and developing relationships with your immediate team and other teams. As you develop a mental model of the product, technical architecture, and business, you will start to steward engineering initiatives that can positively impact the product and across the organization.\n\nIn subsequent months, you will be an active technical leader committing large features to the code base, managing releases, and driving the product and business forward in your area. You will also be facilitating the sustainable delivery of high-quality code with your team and are actively working on initiatives to help elevate the engineering organization as a whole.\n\nWho youโll be working with\n\nPhilip Reichenberger - VP of Engineering\nPhilip is responsible for the health of the engineering organization at Paperspace.
