About Us
When your kid has weird health symptoms, what should you do?
Sleuth is a venture-backed startup with a new solution to this problem. We crowdsource data from parents (60,000+ kids in 2022). Then we provide machine learning-informed results about treatments, therapies, parenting techniques, and specialists. We are creating the largest public database of kidsโ health info over the next 24 months.
Everyone who has ever searched for information about their own strange health symptoms knows how bad the Internet is for answering these questions. This is especially serious for kids. We can do better.ย
The Position
Sleuth is looking for a VP of Engineering to join as our first full-time developer and engineering lead. We are excited for you to join us: we want to be a company engineers love, and we know what that looks like.
As our engineering leader, you will likely choose to hire one additional engineer soon with support from consulting engineers and designers available (and budgeted) for specific projects.ย
We have built extensive prototypes, including our current site, but you are responsible to lead the creation of our first full product. You have no code to inherit.
Sleuth will start as a web application, and you should be comfortable to build, test, and iterate in that environment. Because of our focus on data, our VP of Engineering should have strong backend expertise with fullstack flexibility. You should be comfortable with SQL and NoSQL database applications, caching & scalability. You should also be able to interact with modern Javascript libraries and tooling, and you should be thoughtful about UX.ย
In general, we are programming language and front-end framework agnostic. We want to use the best tools for our growing product and team. We expect candidates to employ sound engineering and testing practices. Finally, we are sure you will have strong views about engineering team hiring, process, and management.ย
