As a small yet growing startup, we're looking for a passionate and experienced Ruby on Rails software engineer to become the fourth member of our tight-knit team. This is an opportunity where your contributions won't just be felt - they'll help shape the direction of our company and its products.

Your Role

Weโ€™re seeking a dedicated candidate for a remote and full-time position. As a company, we value great design and code, and pay close attention to detail throughout the product development process. If youโ€™re passionate about writing elegant, well-organized code, this may be the perfect opportunity for you.

You'll be working directly with our CTO to expand our capabilities, delivering faster and more efficient solutions to our clients. Apart from coding, you'll also engage in strategic discussions, contribute to architectural decision-making, and influence the roadmap of our product.

Your Responsibilities

  • Enhance our mission and expand our product's capabilities by developing new integrations with third-party services and APIs. This includes eCommerce platforms, Point-of-Sale (PoS) systems, CRMs, and more. Your contribution will be instrumental in broadening our product's scope and enriching our platform's connectivity options, directly impacting the way our clients do business.
  • Building new features and functionality for both the frontend and backend.
  • Optimize existing complex backend processing jobs when required.
  • Collaborate with the CTO in identifying parts of the system that need fixing and optimization.
  • Participate in building new app features and our new dashboard.
  • Assisting in scaling efforts by performing benchmarks and optimizations as needed, and proposing changes to architecture design.

Your Qualifications

  • You have experience building applications with Ruby and Rails, ideally in projects involving complex interactions with 3rd party APIs.
  • You possess a deep understanding of application integration, including studying and understanding integration tools' documentation, and transforming it into efficient code.
  • You have a good background in JavaScript and familiarity with Hotwire and other popular JavaScript frameworks such as React, Vue, etc.

**What weโ€™re doing**\n\n80% of the global workforce doesnโ€™t sit behind a desk - think retail assistants, waiters, bartenders, care assistants, nurses and so on. But up until now only 1% of funding has gone into building tools for them.\n\nAs a desk based worker itโ€™s hard to imagine working without tools like Slack, Trello and Gmail, but for much of the deskless workforce, thatโ€™s the current state of play.\n\nThe only way to find out what shifts youโ€™re working is to look at a print out taped to the break room wall. Changes to shifts are scribbled on the printout, photographed then sent to WhatsApp groups. Managers spend hours calling and texting trying and often not succeeding to fill overtime shifts. Payslips are sent in the post or accessed via web 1.0 portals and holiday is requested either in-person or through clunky legacy kiosks. And thatโ€™s just the tip of the iceberg.\n\nThe result is a dissatisfied workforce, soaring rates of attrition and tens of billions wasted in lost productivity, re-hiring and unnecessary agency spend. \n\nThis same workforce is accustomed to the very best in user experience, WhatsApp for messaging, Monzo for banking and AirBnB for holidays.\n\nSo where is the work app?\n\nThatโ€™s what weโ€™re building at Sona. The single app that will deliver a best in class user experience for deskless workers to manage their entire work life.\n\nWeโ€™re still early on in our journey so anyone getting involved has scope to have a huge impact. \n\nWeโ€™ve raised a $2.2m pre-seed round from some amazing investors including SpeedInvest and Notion Capital. We have a highly experienced founding team and amazing sales, marketing and customer success people as well as some exceptional engineering and product design talent. \n\n**About the role**\n\nYouโ€™ll be working as part of a fully remote, close knit product team. We use Github + ZenHub for code hosting and project management and operate an extremely lightweight sprint based process.\n\nWe like engineers to be heavily involved throughout the product development process, not just in building.\n\nOur stack has two main components:\n\n* A backend with a GraphQL API and web frontend built using Elixir and Phoenix Live View\n* A native mobile application built in React Native + Typescript\n\nWe think in terms of โ€œT Shapedโ€ developers. We now have multiple core parts of ezyVet built using ReactJS together with Redux. Your challenge is to continue to refactor and build simple yet scaleable solutions for complex workflows. This will involve juggling multiple priorities using agile practices adding new functionality along the way.\n\nA bit about our stack\nOur legacy public API is written in PHP with Lumen framework and is currently used by more than 100 partners (and a mountain of others lining up to integrate) as well as our 5 internally built mobile apps, which are built in React Native (3 of these exciting apps are currently being migrated from Swift to React Native). This API will be replaced soon with a full Laravel stack. This allows us to build APIs for our partners, for the new ReactJS frontend as well as for our mobile apps.\n\nAuckland HQ is where the bulk of the engineering horse power is based but our London operation is the turbo charger and both continue to grow.
