Knowde is hiring a
Remote Engineering Manager

\nAbout Knowde\n\nChemical companies are the hidden innovators behind the end-products we rely on every day. Chemistry is used to make every physical good on earth, including the products we love from Tesla, Glossier, Apple, Nike, 3M, and J&J. And yet, the largest and most impactful industry in the world is still doing business the same way it did 100 years ago.\n\nKnowde is building the first B2B digital marketplace for the $5 trillion chemical industry. Chemical companies use Knowde to market and sell their products online for the first time ever. For buyers, Knowde has become their go-to destination to shop across the entire world of chemistry, all in a single destination.\n\nBuyers use Knowde as their go-to destination to discover and purchase chemicals from any chemical producer all in one place. By helping pull this industry online, we will accelerate the innovation behind every physical product in the world.\n\nWe’ve raised over $90M from the world’s leading investors, including Sequoia Capital and Coatue, to realize our vision.\n\nCome Join Us!\n\nWe’re looking to hire an immensely talented Engineering Manager to join our team. You’ll be managing a set of growing engineering teams and will help us scale our platform capabilities and business in cities across the globe. You’ll collaborate closely with our C-level suite as we define our product and engineering roadmap. Then, you'll manage delivery against that roadmap through your use of good engineering process, leadership and leveraging your past experience. You will have the opportunity to help shape the company’s technological strategy, cultivate the technical environment, and lead, guide and develop our engineering teams.\n\nAbout You\n\n\n* If you want a key role at a high-growth B2B SaaS company that asks you to write code AND manage a team of high-performing developers and quality assurance engineers then this is your job.\n\n* You can attract and recruit top talent, motivate and coach the team, delegate effectively and manage performance.\n\n* You're an “extroverted introvert” technical person who loves people.\n\n* You drive new product engineering and scaling existing solutions as part of a collaborative, cross-domain product/engineering team.\n\n* You have a history of experience leading engineering teams, including distributed teams, across multiple, large-scale business or consumer product units.\n\n* You know how to build and improve engineering teams that work on a spectrum of new and creative market-defining products.\n\n* You are a positive, inspiring, and supportive leader; a nurturer of talent.\n\n* You have an engineering mindset, can jump in and contribute to technical designs and improvements.\n\n* You are passionate about excellence and have the knowledge to inspire an engineering team that delivers predictively and at high quality.\n\n* You are a former senior or staff-level engineer with extensive professional software experience.\n\n* You’re a self starter who is driven by the satisfaction of completing a project.\n\n* Your ideal role is a mix of solving technical problems and being a performance coach. One day you're pouring through the code to fix a critical bug and doing code reviews, and another day you’re managing the weekly Sprint inside Jira and grooming the backlog of development requests.\n\n* The problem you desperately want to solve: "How do I create a culture of delivery by empowering my team to estimate accurately and meet deadlines, while keeping critical bugs low, time to resolution low, and ensuring the product roadmap gets delivered on time.”\n\n* Have a strong emphasis on shipping features quickly without sacrificing code quality.\n\n* Own your projects from software design to implementation and deployment.\n\n* Take pride in your work by implementing cutting-edge technologies and writing state-of-the-art code.\n\n* Emphasize simplicity and pragmatism, which is reflected in your elegant code that other developers emulate.\n\n\n\n\nWhat you’ll bring:\n\n\n* 7+ years of relevant professional experience, preferably working on advanced B2B products - e-commerce, product catalogs, search, marketing automation, collaboration and marketplaces.\n\n* 1-2+ years of management experience \n\n* Strong technical roots and a skill base that intersects well with Knowde’s tech stack & development tools: Ruby/Rails, Python, React, Kubernetes, AWS, Atlassian tools, etc.\n\n* Working understanding of data privacy and industry compliance.\n\n* Ability to take initiatives from requirements to deployment\n\n* Ability to design and build scalable, high-availability mission-critical systems and APIs.\n\n\n\n\nOur Stack:\n\n\n* Ruby / Python / Javascript\n\n* React / TypeScript / ES6\n\n* PostgreSQL / Elasticsearch / Redis / S3\n\n\n\n\nOur Perks & Benefits\n\n\n* Location: Poland - Rzeszów, Lodz, Białystok, or remotely \n\n* Flexible working hours and the possibility to work remotely\n\n* Opportunity to work on innovative projects with a strong team of engineers\n\n* Possibility to learn and develop \n\n\n\n\nWe believe in supporting people to do their best work and thrive, and building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive company is core to our mission. Our goal is to ensure that Knowde upholds an inclusive environment where all people feel that they are equally respected and valued, whether they are applying for an open position or working at the company. We welcome applicants of any educational background, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, age, citizenship, socioeconomic status, disability, and veteran status.\n\n--\n\nThe Controller of your personal data is Kruko Sp. z o.o., with registered office at Rejtana 36, Rzeszów. Your data is processed for the purpose of the current recruitment process. Providing data is voluntary but necessary for this purpose. Processing your data is lawful because it is necessary in order to take steps at the request of the data subject prior to entering into a contract (article 6 point 1b of Regulation EU 2016/679 - GDPR). Your personal data will be deleted when the current recruitment process is finished, unless a separate consent is provided below. You have the right to access, correct, modify, update, rectify, request for the transfer or deletion of data, withdrawal of consent or objection.\n\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to Design, SaaS, Redis, Python, Typescript, Senior, Marketing and Engineer jobs that are similar:\n\n $60,000 — $112,500/year\n

👉 Please reference you found the job on Remote OK, this helps us get more companies to post here, thanks!

When applying for jobs, you should NEVER have to pay to apply. You should also NEVER have to pay to buy equipment which they then pay you back for later. Also never pay for trainings you have to do. Those are scams! NEVER PAY FOR ANYTHING! Posts that link to pages with "how to work online" are also scams. Don't use them or pay for them. Also always verify you're actually talking to the company in the job post and not an imposter. A good idea is to check the domain name for the site/email and see if it's the actual company's main domain name. Scams in remote work are rampant, be careful! Read more to avoid scams. When clicking on the button to apply above, you will leave Remote OK and go to the job application page for that company outside this site. Remote OK accepts no liability or responsibility as a consequence of any reliance upon information on there (external sites) or here.

\nAt Cryptohopper we're looking for a remote Back End Developer to join our team.\n\n\nzk-SNARKs, miners, nodes, bulls, bears, FOMO and FUD. Some of those terms may sound like Marvel villains or curse words (“I should FUD you upside the head for staring at my nodes!”), but to a trained ear they spell m.a.g.i.c. Cryptocurrency magic, to be exact. In our view – and yes, it’s a bold statement – crypto will be the currency your grandkids consider the norm. And for good reason, because however cryptic crypto may seem, the underlying Blockchain technology is as \nsafe as possible.\n\nTrading in these currencies, though? That’s when sh*t used to go sideways. Until the launch of Cryptohopper: an AI-driven bot that makes crypto trading accessible, fun, and worthwhile. Do you want to optimize and innovate a bot that hosts more than nine million transactions worth an estimated 2 billion USD each month? \nShow us what you got!\n\n\nInterlude: fork in the road time!\n\nPicture yourself at a junction. Not just ‘any’ junction, but, say, a crossroads in Dark Souls III. Lots of dynamic lighting. Fire. Brimstone. The works. Nifty particle effects. The kind of scene that invariably unfolds whenever you need to prep for a Stand Up. Anyway. At this particular junction, you can go right or (surprise!) left. So what to do? Well, that depends on your ambitions and skillset.\n\n\n\nBack End Developer?\n\nTurn right if you want to develop edge-of-your-seat backend solutions that enhance our infrastructure, trading bot, and AI. Enhancements that boost and safeguard our global trading platform in terms of scalability, reliability and security. Prepare to snuggle up (currently not too closely) to our product teams, so they can build (and run, and love) the exact features our users need to trade on cryptocurrency markets. To succeed, you have to be versed in PHP, Node and Golang, and willing to get up close and personal with up-and-coming tooling. Including tech that you introduce to the stack. This is the perfect position if you combine ‘hardcore’ coding skills with a ‘security first’ mindset and are excited to learn about crypto trading and blockchain technologies\n\n\n\nHi, we're the stack.\n\nPHP, Golang, NodeJs, MySQL, InfluxDB, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Sass, Less, Rust, React, Flux, Redux, RESTful, APIs, Cryptotrading, AWS, Kubernetes, Python, Redis Cache, Cyber security, Linux, Open source, etc.\n\n\nYou know you got this if.\n\n\n\n* You have 3+ years of experience as a back end or full stack developer, preferably in DevOps settings\n\n* \nYou are into PHP, Golang, NodeJs, MySQL, Influx DB and similar\n\n* \nYou have a Golang-or-Go-home-mentality\n\n* \nYou enjoy working in a team where feedback is the common language\n\n* \n\nYour lunch break experiments sometimes get out of hand. One time you accidentally developed an app that correlated caffeine intake with sock funkiness. And it worked.\n\n \n\n\nWhat we offer.\n\nA mission-driven culture with a great work/life balance and a good benefits package. Sure, we work hard to get sh*t done, but we also regularly push our moustache (sorry, it’s a silly joke for Dutch readers) for a VR gaming session, picnics in the park, indoor bouldering, drinks at the pub, and whatever happens in our (wo)man cave - and probably best stays there. The setting aside, we also:\n\n\n* \nAllow you to work wherever.\n\n\n* \nSend you on your merry way for 25 days each year, minimum (more is negotiable)\n\n* \n\nShower you with extras, like trading benefits, a generous training budget, and (mom will be proud!) the opportunity to work in a domain that accelerates financial inclusion for the unbanked\n\n\nReady to virtually meet our engineers?\n\nWe don’t require (in fact, please don’t) a motivation letter; we’d rather have a good chat and tell you everything you want to know. About life, the universe, and everything! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n#Location\nWorldwide

At FetLife we're looking for a Senior Rails Engineer to help us better serve the community.

The Job

As a Rails Engineer, you'll be working with the product team focusing on building, releasing, and testing new product features. Additionally, we're always looking for ways to improve our codebase to make it more performant and easier to maintain.

Currently, our entire platform is built as a majestic Rails monolith, using Vue.js with Typescript on the front-end. Additionally, we have some critical areas that have been written in Rust.

More details about our tech stack:

  • Testing is done with RSpec & Capybara
  • Continuous integration and deployment are done with CircleCI
  • MySQL and PostgreSQL for our main databases
  • ScyllaDB for our activity feeds
  • Redis for session storage, queue management, and caching
  • ElasticSearch for full-text search
  • DevOps using Containers orchestrated with Kubernetes and Helm
  • Service and performance monitoring is done with DataDog and NewRelic

Here are some past projects we've worked on that might help you get a better idea of what it means to work as a Rails Engineer at FetLife:

  • Implemented a profile verification system from the ground up using government ID and/or pictures portraying a certain gesture
  • Added discussion pre-moderation for groups
  • Added support for installing FetLife as a Progressive Web App
  • Improved the efficiency of our Activity Feed Deliveries by splitting longer feed event deliveries into smaller async jobs and prioritizing delivery to more recently active members
  • Introduced the possibility of tagging other members in pictures, videos, and writings
  • Added powerful filtering to our on-site reporting system using ElasticSearch
  • Improved location privacy for all our members by introducing granular location privacy settings
  • Integrate Machine Learning solutions to detect age or potentially illegal content

About you

We're looking for someone who has proven experience building and maintaining large production-level Ruby on Rails applications in the past.

Ideally, you have experience:

  • Writing semantic JavaScript and (or) Typescript
  • Working with Redis, MySQL or PostgreSQL
  • Writing unit and integration tests using RSpec and Capybara

Additionally, since we're 100% remote, we:

  • Highly value strong written communicators
  • Require at least a few hours of overlap from 8-12 AM EST (2-6 PM CET)

About Us

FetLife is the largest kinky social network on this side of the Milky Way. We:

  • Have over 10 million members and growing
  • Grew 100% by word-of-mouth
  • Serve over 1.5 billion requests a day

You can find our team and core values here.

Pay & Benefits

We use a standardised salary calculator for each position to ensure we are competitive, fair, and consistent. For this specific role, the rate is between $115k - $170k USD / year. Rate is dependent on the level you are currently at.

Additionally, we offer:

  • Paid time off:
    • 2 weeks vacation
    • 5 statutory holidays (e.g. Easter & Thanksgiving)
    • 2 weeks during Christmas*
    • 4-day workweeks during the summer months (July & August)*
  • 1 retreat a year (e.g. the last one's were in Malaga, Miami, Vancouver, Tennessee, and Montreal)
  • A yearly anniversary gift of your choosing (200$ USD for every year with us, e.g. 4th anniversary is $800)
  • Reimbursed music subscription
  • Fully paid maternal or parental leave

* Not guaranteed, but have happened every year

Note: We believe the traditional hiring process is broken, so we do things a bit differently. We first bring people as a part-time or full-time contractor so that we can get to know each other. If both sides enjoy working with each other, we make you an official offer.

No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to Design, SaaS, Redis, Rabbitmq, Senior, Excel, Engineer and Digital Nomad jobs that are similar:\n\n $62,500 — $125,000/year\n \n\n#Location\nParis/Nantes/Marseille
