Speakeasy is hiring a
Remote Founding Engineer

Mission \nSpeakeasy is building Zero Ops APIs. We are on a mission to make the API lifecycle developer first. Today developers have to orchestrate API changes by hand which means for every change this means updating infrastructure and hand rolling changes to docs, sdks, gateways, auth, billing etc – this list is endless! Speakeasy takes the heavy lifting out of providing a great API experience by integrating directly into your gitops and propagating changes. Simply annotate your API, hit git push and we’ll take care of the rest ! We’re looking for a founding engineer to help us build the future of how developers build and ship APIs. Our team is thoughtful about what makes a world-class developer experience in addition to an unwavering commitment to extensibility and reliability. An ideal candidate loves technical challenges, has an eye for building developer-focused workflows, and is excited to bring an opinionated view to a truly massive and foundational market opportunity. \n\nAbout us\nSpeakeasy was co-founded by Sagar Batchu and Simon Yu. Sagar was previously Director of Engineering at LiveRamp. He was the first engineering hire for the company in London and built both dev tooling and data infrastructure teams, growing the London office to 50+ developers. He also open sourced LiveRamp’s API development stack. Simon was most recently a product lead at Flexport and has over 10 years of product development experience. He was 2nd hire at Safegraph where he led development of their flagship product.  Speakeasy is backed by a top-tier VC and a gaggle of angel investors who occupy leadership positions at key software engineering firms. We’re based in San Francisco, and are looking to hire remote first in the US. We believe that in-person collaboration is strategically important for a company at our stage, while also recognizing that top-level talent can be found anywhere. To balance the two, there are no constraints on employee location, but we do plan for our entire team to meet up and spend a week together roughly every 2 months (travel paid for) — we think this is important not only for velocity, but also for company culture.\n\nAbout you\nEnthusiastic about working on engaging technical challenges for developer products. Excited to be a builder for builders! Experience building products from scratch and working in collaborative teams.\n\nYou might be a good fit if you: \n- Have experience (~5+ years) working on internal platform engineering teams, developer tools, developer productivity or infrastructure products at scale\n- Have experienced the realities of building and maintaining APIs first hand\n- Are a generalist engineer with an ability to pick up new frameworks quickly and are willing to work across the stack from backend to frontend\n- Enjoy understanding technical domains deeply and are willing to really get into the weeds.\n\nOur technical process\nWe are using Go Lang, Typescript, React + NextJS, Kubernetes, and Terraform. We are all polyglots who believe in pushing the bar of what is possible. As a founding team member, you will be deeply involved in our technical evolution.  We believe in shipping code quickly and continuously. We’ll make sure of your full setup on day 1 and shipping code by the end of day 2 !\n\nQualities we value\n-Execution: We’ve a fast-moving and exciting environment where you will be putting down foundational building blocks for the company. We execute with a sense of urgency. \n\n-Humility: Our success is always a team activity. We bring small egos to work and support each other in our shared endeavor every day. \n\n-Ownership & Autonomy: We gather data, make clear decisions, and have ownership of our product and our outcomes. \n\n-Transparency: We are honest with others and, most importantly, ourselves. We extend this value to our development as well, which is why we build in the open. Some of what we ship will be open source and wherever possible we have public roadmaps for our customers to engage with. \n\n-Tenacity: Startups require adaptability and perseverance. We value stamina to stay the course. We’re building a company that will shape the ecosystem for the next 10+ years, and we want our teams’ decision making to share that perspective.\n\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to React, Git, API, Engineer and Backend jobs that are similar:\n\n $70,000 — $120,000/year\n \n\n#Location\nSan Francisco

The Story of BrickSeek

BrickSeek was originally created as a site dedicated to helping Lego collectors seek out hard to find lego sets  — often times in their pursuit of just one or two specific bricks. It didn’t take long for our founder to recognize that the potential of what he had built went far beyond Lego sets, and BrickSeek has since expanded to span every single product category.

Nowadays, BrickSeek is the premier way to look up a products availability and pricing both online and in-store. We post hard to find deals and craft innovative tools for users to fully leverage this unique data, and we’re only getting started.

Despite being ranked by the World Health Organization as a top 10 most disabling condition and causing people to be ten times more likely to die by suicide, people commonly misrepresent OCD as a personality quirk. We give them a unified SQL interface to query that data, a catalog to discover and share it, and tools to build/push/pull it.\n\n# Learn More About Us\n\n- Listen to our interview on the [Software Engineering Daily podcast](https://softwareengineeringdaily.com/2020/11/06/splitgraph-data-catalog-and-proxy-with-miles-richardson/)\n\n- Watch our co-founder Artjoms present [Splitgraph at the Bay Area ClickHouse meetup](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44CDs7hJTho)\n\n- Read our HN/Reddit posts ([one](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=24233948) [two](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23769420) [three](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23627066) [four](https://old.reddit.com/r/datasets/comments/icty0r/we_made_40k_open_government_datasets_queryable/))\n\n- [Read our blog](https://www.splitgraph.com/blog)\n\n- Read the slides from our early (2018) presentations: ["Docker for Data"](https://www.slideshare.net/splitgraph/splitgraph-docker-for-data-119112722), [AHL Meetup](https://www.slideshare.net/splitgraph/splitgraph-ahl-talk)\n\n- [Follow us on Twitter](https://ww.twitter.com/splitgraph)\n\n- [Find us on GitHub](https://www.github.com/splitgraph)\n\n- [Chat with us in our community Discord](https://discord.gg/eFEFRKm)\n\n- Explore the [public data catalog](https://www.splitgraph.com/explore) where we index 40k+ datasets\n\n# How We Work: What's our stack look like?\n\nWe prioritize developer experience and productivity. We resent repetition and inefficiency, and we never hesitate to automate the things that cause us friction. Here's a sampling of the languages and tools we work with:\n\n- **[Python](https://www.python.org/) for the backend.** Our [core open source](https://www.github.com/splitgraph/splitgraph) tech is written in Python (with [a bit of C](https://github.com/splitgraph/Multicorn) to make it more interesting), as well as most of our backend code. The Python code powers everything from authentication routines to database migrations. We use the latest version and tools like [pytest](https://docs.pytest.org/en/stable/), [mypy](https://github.com/python/mypy) and [Poetry](https://python-poetry.org/) to help us write quality software.\n\n- **[TypeScript](https://www.typescriptlang.org/) for the web stack.** We use TypeScript throughout our web stack. On the frontend we use [React](https://reactjs.org/) with [next.js](https://nextjs.org/). For data fetching we use [apollo-client](https://www.apollographql.com/docs/react/) with fully-typed GraphQL queries auto-generated by [graphql-codegen](https://graphql-code-generator.com/) based on the schema that [Postgraphile](https://www.graphile.org/postgraphile) creates by introspecting the database.\n\n- [**PostgreSQL](https://www.postgresql.org/) for the database, because of course.** Splitgraph is a company built around Postgres, so of course we are going to use it for our own database. In fact, we actually have three databases. We have `auth-db` for storing sensitive data, `registry-db` which acts as a [Splitgraph peer](https://www.splitgraph.com/docs/publishing-data/push-data) so users can push Splitgraph images to it using [sgr](https://www.github.com/splitgraph/splitgraph), and `cloud-db` where we store the schemata that Postgraphile uses to autogenerate the GraphQL server.\n\n- [**PL/pgSQL](https://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/plpgsql.html) and [PL/Python](https://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/plpython.html) for stored procedures.** We define a lot of core business logic directly in the database as stored procedures, which are ultimately [exposed by Postgraphile as GraphQL endpoints](https://www.graphile.org/postgraphile/functions/). We find this to be a surprisingly productive way of developing, as it eliminates the need for manually maintaining an API layer between data and code. It presents challenges for testing and maintainability, but we've built tools to help with database migrations and rollbacks, and an end-to-end testing framework that exercises the database routines.\n\n- [**PostgREST](https://postgrest.org/en/v7.0.0/) for auto-generating a REST API for every repository.** We use this excellent library (written in [Haskell](https://www.haskell.org/)) to expose an [OpenAPI](https://github.com/OAI/OpenAPI-Specification)-compatible REST API for every repository on Splitgraph ([example](http://splitgraph.com/mildbyte/complex_dataset/latest/-/api-schema)).\n\n- **Lua ([luajit](https://luajit.org/luajit.html) 5.x), C, and [embedded Python](https://docs.python.org/3/extending/embedding.html) for scripting [PgBouncer](https://www.pgbouncer.org/).** Our main product, the "data delivery network", is a single SQL endpoint where users can query any data on Splitgraph. Really it's a layer of PgBouncer instances orchestrating temporary Postgres databases and proxying queries to them, where we load and cache the data necessary to respond to a query. We've added scripting capabilities to enable things like query rewriting, column masking, authentication, ACL, orchestration, firewalling, etc.\n\n- **[Docker](https://www.docker.com/) for packaging services.** Our CI pipeline builds every commit into about a dozen different Docker images, one for each of our services. A production instance of Splitgraph can be running over 60 different containers (including replicas).\n\n- **[Makefile](https://www.gnu.org/software/make/manual/make.html) and** [docker-compose](https://docs.docker.com/compose/) **for development.** We use [a highly optimized Makefile](https://www.splitgraph.com/blog/makefile) and `docker-compose` so that developers can easily spin-up a stack that mimics production in every way, while keeping it easy to hot reload, run tests, or add new services or configuration.\n\n- **[Nomad](https://www.nomadproject.io/) for deployment and [Terraform](https://www.terraform.io/) for provisioning.** We use Nomad to manage deployments and background tasks. Along with Terraform, we're able to spin up a Splitgraph cluster on AWS, GCP, Scaleway or Azure in just a few minutes.\n\n- **[Airflow](https://airflow.apache.org/) for job orchestration.** We use it to run and monitor jobs that maintain our catalog of [40,000 public datasets](https://www.splitgraph.com/blog/40k-sql-datasets), or ingest other public data into Splitgraph.\n\n- **[Grafana](https://grafana.com/), [Prometheus](https://prometheus.io/), [ElasticSearch](https://www.elastic.co/), and [Kibana](https://www.elastic.co/kibana) for monitoring and metrics.** We believe it's important to self-host fundamental infrastructure like our monitoring stack. We use this to keep tabs on important metrics and the health of all Splitgraph deployments.\n\n- **[Mattermost](https://mattermost.com/) for company chat.** We think it's absolutely bonkers to pay a company like Slack to hold your company communication hostage. That's why we self-host an instance of Mattermost for our internal chat. And of course, we can deploy it and update it with Terraform.\n\n- **[Matomo](https://matomo.org/) for web analytics.** We take privacy seriously, and we try to avoid including any third party scripts on our web pages (currently we include zero). We self-host our analytics because we don't want to share our user data with third parties.\n\n- **[Metabase](https://www.metabase.com/) and [Splitgraph](https://www.splitgraph.com) for BI and [dogfooding](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eating_your_own_dog_food)**. We use Metabase as a frontend to a Splitgraph instance that connects to Postgres (our internal databases), MySQL (Matomo's database), and ElasticSearch (where we store logs and DDN analytics). We use this as a chance to dogfood our software and produce fancy charts.\n\n- **The occasional best-of-breed SaaS services** **for organization.** As a privacy-conscious, independent-minded company, we try to avoid SaaS services as much as we can. But we still find ourselves unable to resist some of the better products out there. For organization we use tools like [Zoom](https://www.zoom.us) for video calls, [Miro](https://miro.com/) for brainstorming, [Notion](https://www.notion.so) for documentation (you're on it!), [Airtable for workflow management](https://airtable.com/), [PivotalTracker](https://www.pivotaltracker.com/) for ticketing, and [GitLab for dev-ops and CI](https://about.gitlab.com/).\n\n- **Other fun technologies** including [HAProxy](http://www.haproxy.org/), [OpenResty](https://openresty.org/en/), [Varnish](https://varnish-cache.org/), and bash. We don't touch them much because they do their job well and rarely break.\n\n# Life at Splitgraph\n**We are a young company building the initial team.** As an early contributor, you'll have a chance to shape our initial mission, growth and company values.\n\n**We think that remote work is the future**, and that's why we're building a remote-first organization. We chat on [Mattermost](https://mattermost.com/) and have video calls on Zoom. We brainstorm with [Miro](https://miro.com/) and organize with [Notion](https://www.notion.so).\n\n**We try not to take ourselves too seriously**, but we are goal-oriented with an ambitious mission.\n\n**We believe that as a small company, we can out-compete incumbents** by thinking from first principles about how organizations interact with data. We are very competitive.\n\n# Benefits\n- Fully remote\n\n- Flexible working hours\n\n- Generous compensation and equity package\n\n- Opportunity to make high-impact contributions to an agile team\n\n# How to Apply? Kikoff is hiring a
Remote Software Engineer Front End

We’re looking for experienced web/frontend engineers who are looking to use the latest in web technology to move the company mission forward. Our initial web app was written in ReactJS and served using NextJS on Express application on AWS. Frontend engineers are expected to own the deploy process for the frontend service.\n\nAs a frontend engineer at a growing fintech startup you are going to move the needle, but it will require a split personality: Your Dr. Jekyll leans towards modular code, carefully isolated JS/SCSS, and writing integration tests to make sure nothing breaks on a deploy; your Hyde-side is one that focuses on managing a chaotic and fast-changing web landscape with multiple contributors deploying several times a day.\n\nOur mission is to create fair, effective, and simple financial pathways to help 100M Americans reach their financial goals. Our investors include Lightspeed, Coatue and GGV. Founders are serial entrepreneurs who co-founded and served as C-suite executives at 3 FinTech unicorns.\n\nDetailed frontend stack:\n- Typescript\n- ReactJS (functional)\n- Framework: NextJS\n- State management: Redux, Redux thunk\n- Styling: SCSS modules\n- Networking: Protobuf.js -> axios\n- Animations: GSAP, Framer Motion, native CSS animations\n- Testing: Cypress\n- Bundler: Webpack\n- Infrastructure: NextJS -> Express -> Elastic Beanstalk -> AWS\n\nRequirements:\n- B.A. / B.S. / M.S. or strong self-taught fundamentals in computer science\n- Expertise in React, Typescript and NodeJS with experience deploying live code to live traffic\n- A strong understanding of functional programming concepts\n- 4+ years of industry experience, with demonstrated breadth and depth of product impact\n- Ability to analyze data and distill information for business purposes\n- Effectiveness as demonstrated by problem-solving skills in areas outside your expertise\n- Desire to form strong professional bonds with startup-forward coworkers\n\nNice to haves:\n- Experience with NextJS, Protobuf and Webpack\n\nWhat we’re like:\n- Scrappy. We had a product goal and put out the MVP, collecting our first users with steady growth via paid channels in four months. We don’t cut corners when we know we’ll need them but we don’t build things without that need. We don’t like inefficiency but we dislike operationalizing one-off tasks even more.\n- Risk-oriented. Everything has risk, but a mature team knows how to make these tradeoffs. That’s why we built the MVP fast––because time is your most valuable asset and is practically fungible with money in the startup world.\n- Data-obsessed. We all look at data and pull it, and we believe that understanding the mechanics can yield valuable insights. Complex systems require elegant, not just simple solutions. You absolutely need to be interested in data if you want to leverage your knowledge of systems.\n- Lucky. That’s how we look at this journey so far. From our timing of fundraising, to the circumstances in which we came together, to the initial product traction we’re getting, there’s no other word to describe it. We are grateful you are reading this, and we know that if you’re meant to be with us on this journey, then we will see you soon.\n\nWhy Kikoff:\nThis is a consumer fintech startup, and you will be working with serial entrepreneurs who have built strong consumer brands and innovative products. We are backed by some of Silicon Valley’s top VCs, including GGV capital, Lightspeed Ventures, Female Founders Fund, and others. We value extreme ownership, clear communication, a strong sense of craftsmanship, and the desire to create lasting work and work relationships. Yes, you can build an exciting business AND have real-life real-customer impact.\n\n💰 Competitive pay based on experience\n🏥 Medical, dental, and vision coverage - Kikoff covers the full cost of health insurance for the employee!\n📈 Stock Options\n🏝 Generous unlimited vacation policy to help you recharge\n\nRegular team building events to help you get to know the Kikoff team and soo much more! Our last virtual cooking event had everyone's mouth on fire, but cooled down by home-mixed cocktails.\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to Mobile, Marketing, Engineer, Front End, Executive, Developer, Digital Nomad and CSS jobs that are similar:\n\n $60,000 — $120,000/year\n \n\n#Location\nRemote, United States

\nJob Description\n\n\n\nWhat we're looking for: \n\n\n* Passion for our mission and empathy for our members- building for members means learning about what they're going through. We'll send you resources about OCD is from a members perspective and how it's managed from a clinical perspective\n\n* High Agency and bias to action- We are still a small company and there's a lot of work to do. We trust everyone we hire and will provide them any support they need \n\n* Abundance and growth mindset- There is always more we can do to serve our members. We hope this will be one of the most rewarding professional experiences of your career. \n\n* Clear communication- Ideas are better when shared so we hope that you can share them with others in written form. \n\n* 5 + years of experience- You care about what you're building and have built significant production systems in the past. You are comfortable moving across the stack when necessary \n\n\n\n\nTools we use: \n\n\n* Web : NextJS / Typescript / Tailwind CSS / Netlify / React\n\n* Mobile : Swift / Flutter / Kotlin / Firebase\n\n* Backend : Python Flask / MySQL Aurora / Stripe + Paypal / Aptible / AWS\n\n* Data : FiveTran / GCP / BigQuery / Metabase / Google Sheets / Data Studio\n\n* Internal Tools : Retool / React Native / Google Sheets\n\n* Communication: Pen + Paper / Whiteboard /  Figma / Google Docs / Slack / Clickup \n\n\n\n\nThings you might do: \n\n\n* Build a modern clinical EHR - help us bring great user experiences to the clinical setting\n\n* Implement data pipelines on GCP as we work on research publications around our protocols\n\n* Work with internal support teams so they can offer the best experience to our members\n\n* Simplify Billing + Insurance - Many people have used Stripe (which we use) but we’re bringing insurance billing to the modern age as well\n\n* Lead a new product initiative- How can we help families be more involved in the treatment process for example \n\n\n\n\nWhat we Believe: \n\n\n* Outcomes for members come from Condition Specific Care: \n\n\n* Although offerings for behavioral health have increased in the past few years, we believe there is still a lack of focus on condition-specific disease states - and a one size fits all solution will not work. Just as you wouldn't see a general practitioner if you had a heart condition, there’s no single therapist who could treat the enormous diversity of behavioral health conditions (especially for severe conditions) from OCD, to PTSD, to BDD, to GAD, to Depression, to Panic, etc. We believe people get better only when care is focused specifically one condition at a time as treatment modalities differ condition by condition and person by person. Our focus is on OCD because of our founders experience overcoming OCD. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n* Hire product minded individuals over pure technical excellence: \n\n\n* We think being able to work with members, operations teams, and design is more important than pure technical skill. Being able to understand the needs and experiences of a variety of stakeholders allows one to be more autonomous and build the right product sooner. Product engineers have ownership from end to end, from stakeholder research, ideation, to delivery. If you prefer purely task-oriented work it may be a challenging fit, but if you want end-to-end ownership we will support you at every step of the way to strengthen areas you'd like to improve in.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n* Healthcare should be member first: \n\n\n* Everyone has experienced navigating a very difficult to use healthcare portal. Oftentimes healthcare technology was built first for providers or insurance organizations. This leaves members stuck to navigate complex product offerings and ux has been an afterthought for them. We believe the member should be brought back to the table and that we can only serve all three stakeholders well (members + insurers + providers) when we build software that is member first. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n* Success is only possible because of the team: \n\n\n* Nothing we have done would have been possible without every single person on our team. I am proud to have served alongside a team that has done immense good in the world by showing what is possible when focusing on our members.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBenefits:\n\n\n* \n\nCasual, challenging, and engaging startup environment with an outstanding mission-driven team atmosphere\n\n\n* \n\nCompetitive compensation\n\n\n* \n\nComprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision coverage, and 401(k).\n\n\n* \n\nFlexible PTO policy\n\n\n* \n\nAwesome office on Michigan Avenue, ability to work remotely\n\n\n* \n\nOnsite amenities including a fitness center\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNOCD is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering an inclusive, innovative environment with the best employees. Therefore, we provide employment opportunities without regard to age, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation, or any other protected status in accordance with applicable law. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to Engineer, Full Stack, React, CSS, Python and Flutter jobs that are similar:\n\n $70,000 — $120,000/year\n
