\nHello!\n\nThanks for checking out our job description for a remote Frontend Engineer at Impala. We felt a little bit impersonal just just diving straight in with words like “revolutionising” and “disrupting”.\n\nAs such, we apologise in advance for any clichés, tropes or sudden-insecurity-driven-panic-attacks that you might find in the description below.\n\nWhat is Impala?\n\nImpala is making the process of booking hotel rooms ridiculously easy. We’re providing hotels with a powerful data distribution infrastructure that transforms the way hotel guests across the world browse, book, stay and pay. Think Twilio for Travel.\n\nWe launched our original API product in January 2019 and since then have grown at - quite frankly - a ridiculous old clip. Our technology is already installed in hundreds of hotels worldwide, on six continents and categorises more than 1 billion data points. This has allowed us to bring forward our ambition to revolutionise the hotel distribution market and help empower millions of people across the globe.\n\nWe are a growing remote-first team of exceptional people split across engineering, product and commercial who make up a thriving, active, supportive community.\n\nWhere is Impala going?\n\nWe’re supported by some of the most respected investors in the business, the early-stage backers behind Deliveroo, PillPack, SecretEscapes, Zoopla, Trivago, Monzo, Travelperk, Transferwise, Airbnb, GetYourGuide, Omio, Spotify and more! \n\nThey’re on board because of the shared opportunity we have before us - revolutionising a 1.6 trillion dollar market that’s been out-of-date for 20 years.\n\nThey also share our vision of a future in which travel is seamlessly connected and relentlessly inventive.\n\nOur vision is that within the next two years 10% of hotel bookings worldwide will flow through Impala technology, and the product that we’re building will support the entire ecosystem of travel technology (we already have over a thousand companies signed up).\n\nAnyone travelling anywhere will interact with products powered by Impala and to achieve this we’re growing the team extensively within the next year. Now is the most exciting time to be joining Impala as we go through a large push to grow and scale, both as a service and a community!\n\nA brief overview of what you will be doing here:\n\nYou will be a key contributor to new frontend services, ensuring a high level of quality for both our code and our user experience. Your role will involve analysing and optimising the product and technical performance of features to continually improve customer experience. You will work closely with the Impala design team to create an enjoyable user experience. \n\nYou should join us if:\n\n\n* You have strong experience and expertise with ReactJS and good knowledge of JS fundamentals.\n\n* You are comfortable working closely with product owners, designers, UX experts and the ability to translate their designs/requirements into maintainable, componentised UIs.\n\n* You have experience with the design and consumption of REST APIs.\n\n* You have knowledge and ability across the stack, and are able to contribute to and build out backend services where necessary.\n\n\n\n\nWhere will you work?\n\nThis is a remote position. This means you can work from anywhere +/- 2 Hours of London timezone (and less than a 3 hour flight).\n\nWe are a remote-first company, with a fully distributed engineering team! This was a very deliberate, natural choice, as we prioritise preserving work-life balance and accommodating the best people in Europe, while also fostering diversity.\n\nWe have loads of remote initiatives to ensure every new member of the team is fully set up!\n\n\n* We provide an additional generous Personalised Workspace Budget for things like monitors, keyboards, desk chairs and headphones.\n\n* We offer an office stipend - you can furnish their home office with a generous £150 monthly stipend (coffee, snacks, wifi bills, cleaning, desk equipment, plus anything in between) or we will pay for a co-working membership near where you live.\n\n* The full engineering team travels once a quarter to meet and socialise with the rest of the engineering team somewhere in Europe.\n\n* We offer a generous Social Budget for you to travel to London-based social events.\n\n* We have a dedicated Remote Experience Manager in the team, whose role is, among other things, to ensure everyone in the team’s happiness, and help them feel integrated and empowered while working remotely.\n\n* We give each new team member a brand new high-spec laptop when they start, with a choice between a Thinkpad or Mac.\n\n\n\n\nPlease note, we only accept candidates in Western Europe because of timezone and travel time differences. We make no exceptions (we don’t have time to, unfortunately!). \n\nWhat you will get in return? \n\n\n* We reward Impalans with the most competitive salaries and regular reviews. Whether you're an individual contributor or you want to manage people, there are plenty of opportunities to develop your skills and boost your earning potential. We offer 3.5x the average annual UK raise, even if you remain within the same role.\n\n* We’re in the top 14% of companies in the UK for the amount of holiday that we offer, at 36 days.\n\n* One Unsick Day off per year, to keep up with proactive health admin - so you can finally sort that trip to the dentist and get those health screens that you never have time to do.\n\n* Flexible working options. With extended lunch break options, Recess Hour, and loads more.\n\n* We invest in your development with a generous £1,000 Professional Development budget per year, and we will support you to realise your potential. \n\n* Fun and inclusive monthly social events, from go-karting to mini golf to karaoke to virtual pub quiz.\n\n* Access to Perkbox. \n\n* A super strong and proactive focus on mental and physical wellbeing. \nHello!\n\nThanks for taking a look at the job description for Senior Frontend Engineer at Impala. We felt a little bit impersonal just throwing you right in there with words like “revolutionizing” and “disrupting”.\n\nAs such, we want you to know that the person that wrote this job description apologises in advance for any clichés, tropes or sudden-insecurity-driven-panic-attacks that you might find in the description below.\n\nWhat Is Impala Now?\n\nImpala makes building travel software incredibly easy. We provide hotels with a powerful data management platform that makes connecting to software, hardware and room distributors extremely easy. Think Twilio for Travel.\n\nWe launched in January 2019 and since then have grown at - quite frankly - a ridiculous old clip. Our technology is already installed in hundreds of hotels worldwide, on six continents and categorises more than 1 billion data points.\n\nWe are a team 14 exceptional people split across engineering, product and commercial that have built a fantastic community.\n\nWhere Is Impala Going?\n\nWe’re supported by some of the best investors in the business, the early stage backers behind Deliveroo, PillPack, SecretEscapes, Zoopla, Trivago and more. They’re on board because of our vision - revolutionizing a $1.6 trillion dollar market that’s been out-of-date for 20 years.\n\nWithin the next two years, 25% of hotel bookings worldwide will flow through Impala technology and the product that we’re building will support the entire ecosystem of travel technology (we already have over a thousand companies signed up).\n\nAnyone travelling anywhere will interact with products powered by Impala and to achieve this we’re growing the team to 50 people within the next year.\n\nWhat Will I Be Doing?\n\nBrace yourself for some bullet points:\n\n\n* You’ll initially work across our agile teams as a frontend engineering resource before becoming a dedicated member of one of the teams.\n\n* You’ll add features to our existing UIs and also create new UI products that allow our technology partners and their hotels to better manage their applications and data.\n\n* You’ll improve the security features across all of our frontend products.\n\n* You’ll add functionality to our internal tools that allows our support team to better service customers.\n\n* You’ll analyze and optimise (be that UX, performance, security) new and existing features to continually improve our products.\n\n\n\n\nWhat Sort of Person Are You Looking For?\n\n\n* Someone with significant React experience and good knowledge of JS fundamentals\n\n* Someone comfortable working closely with product owners, designers, UX experts and the ability to translate their designs/requirements into maintainable, componentised UIs.\n\n* Someone that is extremely collaborative, Impala’s engineering team is not political, everyone has great ideas and should be open to input. We have no space for brilliant jerks.\n\n* Someone who is passionate about customer experience and building high quality maintainable software that looks and works fantastically.\n\n\n\n\nWhere Will I Work?\n\nThis is a remote position (all of our engineering team and some of our other staff members are distributed). Our team is fully remote, working from all over the UK.\n\n\nThe Role\nWe're looking for an experienced, UK-based Front-end Developer who wants to be part of a remote-working, fast growing startup (weve been around for a few of years). You will be working as part of our Agile, 10 person team to help deliver iterations to our product.\n * Start date: as soon as possible\n * Pay: 35k to 45k, dependent on what you bring to the table\n * Working remotely anywhere in the UK. (we offer budget for co-working spaces or to support your home office)\n \n\nPlease be aware that although the position is remote, we will need you to travel to London during the interview process, and attend a team days / product team meet-ups every few months.\n\nBenefits\n\nWhat we can offer you\n * Remote working - We're a distributed team, so whether you want to join a co-working space or get your work done from a mountain hut, the choice and flexibility are yours.\n * Family friendly - We're very family oriented, so if the little one needs to have their jabs or wants to sit in during a meeting, that's fine too!\n * Work/life balance - We work a 35 hour week and encourage downtime. We don't want people burning out. We offer a full Headspace or Calm subscription and have free mental health support available.\n * The chance to make a big impact - We're a small team of 20 (and growing), and we don't do silos, so there's a big opportunity for you to collaborate closely with people across the whole company and make your mark.\n * Easy-going team - We enjoy spending time with each other. Not being in the office together every day makes the heart grow fonder, so every 3 months or so we organise for the whole team to hang out and catch up. Our recent expeditions have included a Breaking Bad Cocktail Making experience (with virgin options), a food tour across London's east end, and making Christmas wreaths for that festive feeling.\n * Need a holiday? We offer 35 days of holiday per year, which means more time to do something off the beaten path\n * Growth - We believe it's important for people to have the resources to grow both personally and professionally, so we offer a generous conference and books budget to help you scratch that knowledge itch.\n \n\n\n\nYou need to include the word beetroot in your cover letter to show that youve read the job role (this helps us weed out time wasters!)\n\n\nClosing date: 1st of February 2019\n\nWe are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status or disability status.\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n
