# How do you apply?\n\nThis job post has been closed by the poster, which means they probably have enough applicants now. Please do not apply.
This job post is closed and the position is probably filled. Please do not apply. Work for Customer.io and want to re-open this job? Use the edit link in the email when you posted the job!
Hi, Iโm Brian, Director of Product at Customer.io,\n \nIโd first like to introduce you to Fly, our current design system. Weโve reached a point where Fly is struggling to scale and hiring you is the piece of the puzzle we need to invest in leveling it up. Iโm looking for someone to join our product team and be the vanguard of this effort!\n\nOur product work is done by squads: small groups of product managers, engineers, and designers like you, focused on solving a customer problem. In addition to wrangling our design system, you'll also be an integral part of a squad, helping to define and design the user experience.\n\nThe work you do here will raise the bar for the everyday communications we all receive. It drives us crazy when we get useless emails and notifications that feel like spam from companies we admire. Despite how poorly some companies communicate, we donโt think marketers are bad people. In fact, we believe they care about their customers, donโt want to waste their time, and simply donโt have the tools to do better. At Customer.io weโre on a mission to give our customers the superpower of sending and tracking great email, SMSes and push notifications. \n\nOur customers are marketers, growth hackers, and engineers who are always dreaming up fresh ideas for how to be genuine and personal in their messages to customers. We help businesses send relevant messages based on what people do or donโt do when using a web or mobile app. \n\nSound like the next step in your career? Read on and apply!\n\nP.S. Identify more as a UX Designer? UX Engineer? Donโt worry about it - let us know if you think this is the place for you.\n\n**What will you be doing?**\n\n- Taking over Fly, the component library we use to construct our app in close partnership with our front-end engineers and your fellow designers. Understand what works, what doesnโt, and take ownership of improving it.\n- Standardize and document these modular components, so the entire team knows how, where, and why to use them\n- Own UI and UX design for product features while partnering with engineering throughout the creation process\n- Use both data and customer research to validating your designs and refine concepts for new features\n- Separate trend from truth when it comes to design systems -- meaningfully leverage best practices, but don't be afraid to ignore the buzzwords and forge a path (and a Medium post) yourself!\n\n**Youโll be working with...**\n\n- Ivana, Sr UI/UX designer, to take features from concept to Customer.io! Together, youโll collaborate on distilling user feedback into user goals, wireframes, visual designs, prototypes -- whatever the team needs to make our customersโ lives easier.\n- Kieran, Sr Product Designer, who will be your visual design partner as you corral our design system and take it to the next level.\n- Brian, our Director of Product, to figure out what we need to build next for our customers. With Brian youโll focus a lot on customer problems and outcomes in order to cultivate an iterative design-driven team culture. Brian joined last year from Adobe, where he spent years building products for designers.\n- A team of front-end engineers with a passion for design and usability. Theyโll be close partners: youโll laugh together, youโll cry together, youโll do the best work of your lives together.\n\n**What will you bring to the table?**\n\n**Youโre a natural systems thinker** and thatโs exactly what makes you a great designer. Grids, modules, and typographic scale are your paintbrush. You see nonstandard, one-off interfaces as a rough design critique. You enjoy applying your systems in service of customer needs just as much as you enjoying crafting those systems.\n\n**Your north star** is making a design system and user experience harmonize perfectly. You realize itโs not just about a pattern library, itโs about constraining the ways the patterns can be assembled so they accelerate the both process of designing a product and empowering its user.\n\n**Youโre hungry to learn**, and you love to understand how things work under the hood. You thrive in technical conversations with engineers where you need to balance constraints with design goals.\n\n**Youโre scrappy and self-directed** when it comes to problem-solving and working on multiple projects at once. Youโre looking to work with a startup where youโll be responsible for the impact you make and have a lot of freedom. Working with folks in different time zones will be standard issue for you around here, so being able to stay determined, even when the answers arenโt in front of you, is essential. \n\n**You are a proactive communicator**. You strive to be articulate and empathetic in your interactions and believe in โworking out loudโ to share work early and helpfully. This might mean writing out your questions for the team, jumping on a quick call to clarify feature requirements, or building wireframes after documenting your assumptions.\n\n**Bonus!** Not a requirement, but shout about it if you have experience with... \n- Writing the HTML, CSS, and JS for the design system you create\n- Marketing Technology and/or SaaS Companies\n\n**Why should you work with Customer.io?**\n\nWork at our head office in Portland, OR or anywhere in the world you want. \nJoin us and become a part of history as together we change the face of e-commerce for digital content and preserve the ability of authors to earn a living writing. We are looking for a smart, creative front web developer with a strong design sense to complement the existing team. \n\nThis role will complement the rest of the founding team who has already built the back-end infrastructure and first beta version of the website. As we prepare to come out of beta and traffic is climbing, we now need an updated UI to match.\n\nThe current beta site has been developed in Ruby-on-Rails. We are migrating the core code to Elixir / Phoenix. We're looking to move to a ReactJS front end for the main UI, sporting responsive design and to share code with our parallel React Native app development efforts.\n\nHighlights\n\n\n* Get in on the ground floor and become an owner of a new, industry-transforming company.\n\n* Consult with former kayak.com founding employee & Chief Architect Bill O'Donnell, who is a technical advisor to the company.\n\n* Create your own solutions to challenging technical problems.\n\n* Choose the tools that will be used by you and your colleagues.\n\n* Lead and build the look and feel of an upcoming major e-commerce site.\n\n* Make mistakes, disrupt the status quo, and help us create the engineering culture that you would like -- build your own dream job!\n\n\n\n\nIf hired, you will receive a hefty equity grant relative to the position. You will also earn direct payment in the form of a revenue share on every dollar in revenue we generate directly and across our 1,000+ distribution partners. Your pay will increase as our gross revenue increases, until those rev-share pay levels reach your target salary.\n\nWe are located in the growing Lebanon/Hanover, NH tech region around Dartmouth and the Lebanon airport, but during our launch phase, we expect candidates to work from home, wherever that may be. We will pay for relocation, should that become necessary in the future.\n\nPart Time / Full Time\n\nWe're looking for someone who ultimately wants a full time position with us, but if you need a transitional period working for Scribl part time while you continue to do other work, we fully support that. \n\nSkills & Requirements\n\nNOTE: Your cover letter matters to us, maybe more than your resume! We want to know why you are interested in Scribl. Please read this section and write it accordingly.\n\nWe want you if you are:\n\n\n* Fun, kind, fast, and flexible\n\n* A good communicator\n\n* Possessed of a strong sense for minimalist and elegant design, with a dash of fun\n\n* Passionate about digital content, especially ebooks and audiobooks\n\n\n\n\nAnd have strong technical experience with:\n\n\n* ReactJS (or other deep JavaScript experience)\n\n* HTML5 and Responsive Design\n\n* SEO\n\n* Writing high-quality, testable, and maintainable JS code\n\n* E-commerce and security best practices\n\n* Adobe or other graphic design tools to support your UI work\n\n\n\n\nIf you have some experience with these, that's a plus, but it's not required:\n\n\n* Ruby-on-Rails or Elixir/Phoenix to work with our existing system and back-end\n\n* Familiarity with AWS hosting and OpsWorks\n\n* NGINX, Linux Ubuntu, and Docker \n\n* Full-stack capabilities\n\n* Media presentation of EPUB and stream audio\n\n* Podcasting\n\n* Mobile and Windows UWP development in React Native or Xamarin\n\n* Strong team-building and project management record\n\n* Leadership\n\n\n\n\nYou will be responsible to:\n\n\n* Work on your own and with other developers who are adding capabilities on the back-end and developing mobile apps to accompany our ebook and audiobook store\n\n* Build and support tight integration between the front end UI, our backend database, and our apps so the user experience is preserved regardless of how the user accesses our content\n\n* Nurture a healthy engineering culture\n\n\n\n\nIt is important that you either have or are willing to gain an appreciation for digital content creators -- authors and artists. Our success is dependent on our ability to help them prosper and want that perspective to be shared by everyone on our team. Please describe your interest in Scribl, CrowdPricing, ebooks, or authors in your cover letter. The resume should show you have the skills. The cover letter is what tells us why you may be the right person for the position. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n

\nWe are seeking a senior front-end developer or hands-on development manager to help lead a junior engineering team of 5+ developers as we make the transition to a single-page application via Angular. The title would initially be a technical lead, but the role requires someone who is capable of assuming a manager position after a 2-3 month period. We’re looking for someone with deep JS experience as well as a strong CSC background who can help the team develop more structure around the HTML/CSS/JS code. This person will also have ownership for custom Sales development, video display and distribution and our mobile web user experience. Any PHP experience would be quite helpful as well since we currently run an nginx/PHP/mySQL stack on AWS, S3 and Akamai. The expectation is that this person would focus on front-end development, but all of our leads are competent full-stack developers and ops savvy. Furthermore everyone is empowered to explore and implement new ideas and improvements.\n\nResponsibilities:\n\n\n* Lead and mentor a dynamic engineering team of 5+ developers\n\n* Design and implement features that wow and excite our users\n\n* Help Architect and improve our CSS/HTML/JS framework\n\n* Learn about new technologies and share your findings with the team\n\n* Take ownership of custom sales solutions, mobile user experience and video playback\n\n\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n
