## What is LoanCrate?\n\nWe started LoanCrate to make home-buying simpler and less expensive for lenders and borrowers (us!). Today, mortgage lenders are stuck running their companies on software products built 20 years ago. These products are slow and unstable, and end up costing lenders millions of dollars in other otherwise preventable mistakes every year. LoanCrate solves those problems and more, helping lenders improve the home-buying experience for people all over the country.\n\nSince starting in January 2021, our remote team has closed a $4m seed round, grown to 9 people, and launched our first product. And since adopting LoanCrate in June, our customers have used LoanCrate to power ~$7.5b in new home loans. We're on track to achieve strong profitability by mid-2022 after doubling (or more) our team size in the meantime.\n\nOur team is a group of people excited to tackle the complexity of the home-lending industry. We care about collaboration, very open communication covering the good & the bad so that we learn from our decisions quickly, and ultimately having fun while we take on industry giants. You'll fit in well if you like diving deep quickly!\n\n## The opportunity\n\nOur dreams are big and we have much to build! We're looking for senior software engineers to help lead our team in powering the future of home buying in the US (which could entail managing a majority of US home loans every year โ financial assets worth trillions of dollars).\n\nWe are excited to offer competitive salary and equity for this role.\n\n## What to expect\n\nAs an engineer at LoanCrate, you'll continue our team tradition by shipping code to production on your first day! Following that, within your first month, you'll dive into your first mission-critical project, such as...\n\n- ๐ Architecting, building, and launching v2 of our no-code platform that our customers use to digitize their ops workflows and save millions of dollars per year.\n- ๐ค Integrating with 3rd-party providers of lending services APIs to generate documents/disclosures, produce automated underwriting results, or prevent fraud.\n- ๐ Architecting, building, and launching the next generation of our job processing infrastructure on AWS to make LoanCrate's back end more observable and reliable.\n\n## Tech stack\n\nNearly all of our code is written in TypeScript. We use React on the frontend, Node/Express on the backend (running inside Docker), GraphQL/Apollo on both sides, and Postgres as our database. We use AWS (ECS, RDS, ElastiCache, SNS, and more) and manage all of our infrastructure with Terraform.\n\nWe believe that high engineering velocity drives high product velocity (and, in turn, our success as a company ๐). Keeping this in mind, we've invested heavily in creating a great developer experience that enables engineers to ship fast. Some highlights of our stack:\n\n- โ๏ธ **End-to-End Type Safety** - We generate TypeScript types from our Postgres and GraphQL schemas so that when we change our database schema we see type errors in any incompatible frontend React components.\n- ๐ **Full-Stack Code Sharing** - Our build tooling supports seamless sharing of TypeScript files between the client, server, and other packages in our mono-repo so that we never have to define functions or configuration values twice.\n- ๐ **Reproducible Infrastructure** - Weโve used Terraform to manage 100% of our infrastructure since day 1 and have configured our CI pipeline to automatically deploy temporary staging environments for every pull request. We use these per-PR environments to get feedback from teammates and test any infrastructure changes using infrastructure that's identical to production.\n- ๐งช **First Class Testing Utilities** - We have a comprehensive library of utilities that mock production-like data and feed automated end-to-end, integration, and performance tests. Our wide-ranging test suite allows us to move fast while maintaining nearly perfect uptime.\n\n## Preferred skills and background\n\n(It's okay not to have all of these things - these are just some skills we are excited about!) \n\n- ๐ A constant and keen eye for security risks โ we store and display some of people's most sensitive personal data and need to keep it safe!\n- ๐จ A desire to be product-oriented, from thinking through the product implications of what you're building to contributing your unique ideas of how to improve the product.\n- ๐๏ธ Ability to develop readable, maintainable, and effective software architecture patterns that support use of our product by various enterprise customers (each with thousands of employees and their own methods for running their companies).\n- ๐ฉโ๐ซ๐จโ๐ซ Excitement to mentor less senior engineers in both hard and soft skills.\n- ๐ SRE-oriented mindset for developing infrastructure that's reliable, observable, and requires minimal toil to maintain.\n- ๐ฉ๏ธ Experience scaling high-throughput distributed systems in the cloud. Bonus points if you're experienced with infrastructure-as-code solutions like Terraform or CloudFormation!\n- ๐ง Ability to develop full-stack web app features from design through deployment.\n- ๐ข๏ธ Experience designing and scaling complex relational DB schemas, as well as figuring out performant ways to store, retrieve, and update such data. Home loans have thousands of data fields ๐.\n \n\nPlease mention the word **PRAISE** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMjE2LjczLjIxNi4xODA=). This job post is closed and the position is probably filled. Please do not apply. Work for Roger.ai and want to re-open this job? Use the edit link in the email when you posted the job!
**About Us**\n\nRoger was founded to make day-to-day financial operations like bill pay, expense management, compliance and bookkeeping as worry-free as possible for business owners, finance teams, accountants and bookkeepers. Roger works as an automated layer on top of a company's accounting software, saving businesses and accountants hours of work every day. We're proud of the product that we've built so far, and our global customer base agree that we're making something complex and tedious simple and maybe even fun.\nWe are backed by some of the best investors in the financial technology space, and most recently raised $7.5m from QED, Silicon Valley Bank and others. Joining Roger is a unique opportunity to join a team that's still small enough to be nimble but has great financial backing and cares about building an excellent product experience and a great team. We hire for attitude and not credentials. Please apply regardless of your educational background.\n\n**The Opportunity**\n\nThe Roger web application is the client with the highest usage by customers and users. A great web experience is essential for an excellent overall customer experience in Roger, and it's a priority for us to invest in improving and building out our web offering.\n\nWe are looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer to be an integral part of the small clients team (iOS, Android, Web). You'll be able to take a leading role in delivering an excellent web experience to our 1,000+ customers and our thousands of users. Your primary tasks will include:\n\n* Working with the product and backend engineering team to implement new features on the frontend\n* Making sure the web client can scale 7-10x in the next year\n* Maintaining security and stability during rapid growth\n* Help mitigate and resolve bugs / work with the customer support team to resolve frontend bugs\n\nYou'll be working collaboratively with the rest of the engineering team as well as with the product team to drive the implementation and release of new features. You'll get familiar with all parts of our stack from end to end, and will drive positive change to Roger's engineering culture, processes and technology. We see this role as a unique chance to take a large ownership over an important piece of the Roger product, and grow into any role you see yourself in as we expand the team and the product.\n\n**The Team**\n\nThe engineering team is characterized by a high degree of support internally. We help each other out and pitch in when problems arise as well as give each other feedback to grow. Our top priority is to build the world's best financial automation platforms, while keeping our users safe and compliant. Scalability, reliability and robustness are keywords we live by but we also get excited about building out feature MVPs quickly to keep our innovative reputation with customers and partners alive and well at all times.\n\n**The Stack**\n\nWe use as a frontend stack React/Redux for modularity, simplicity and speed of development. Tests are run in Jest and Puppeteer and our landing sites are optimized for server-side rendering using Next.js. Our backend / API is built in C# / .NET for itโs robustness and security and our machine learning runs on Python.\nSome of the tools we use are Lamda (for integrations), AWS, Bugsnag, Heroku, CircleCI and other great tools to keep our development processes running smoothly.\n\n**Our Values**\n\nWe're a global company with offices in Copenhagen and San Francisco. Our values are heavily influenced by our Scandinavian roots (both founders are from Denmark), and count humility, humor and inclusiveness. We strive to create a culture where anyone feels part of the family, and we place a great amount of value in hiring for attitude rather than resumes. We support flexibility in everyone's lives, and working at Roger can be easily combined with babies, toddlers and teenagers. We have two primary office locations but have a remote culture that we put a lot of effort into as we believe great talent can be found anywhere. As a remote worker you can be sure to feel like you are as much part of the team as those who come to an office every day. About every 6 months we all get together in person. Our last trips took us to Greece and Spain. Everyone on the team shares a passion for creating the best possible product and user experience, and that is something we value in future team members as well.\n\n**The Roger Story**\n\nRoger's founders started the company after exiting their first startup to Cisco Systems. Having experienced all the frustrations with daily financial operations when starting previous ventures, the first gist of an idea for Roger was born in 2016. Since then, international investors from both Europe and the US have supported the growth of the team and the customer base, and the product is now used and loved by thousands of customers worldwide.\nRoger is an equal opportunity employer. We strive to maintain and develop our inclusive work environment and welcome members of all backgrounds and perspectives. \n\n# Requirements\n* Customer empathy and the ability to think through customer needs and come up with clever ways solve their problems is something you're good at and excited about\n* You have an interest in building robust UIs with modern tools like ES6, React, Redux\n* You're passionate about building production-ready features fast\n* You have a high bar for the quality of code and automating repetitive development tasks as well as a high attention to detail \n\nPlease mention the words **NOMINEE MIXED DOMAIN** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMjE2LjczLjIxNi4xODA=).
