ChainSafe Systems, a blockchain research and development company, is seeking dedicated Protocol Engineers to join our Forest (Filecoin implementation in Rust) team.

As a protocol engineer for Forest, you will join a small team and develop and maintain the Rust implementation of the Filecoin blockchain protocol, often referred to as a node or a blockchain client. You will be tasked with implementing new features, occasionally from a technical specification or a reference implementation; maintaining existing features; and ensuring the implementation stays compatible with the current specification of the protocol, and updating the code when upgrades are made to the network. The position is full-time and remote-friendly.

As a protocol engineer, you have a desire to implement and deploy novel protocols that have never been implemented before in that language, you have a passion for open-source software and understanding that you will be maintaining code that will be widely used on a decentralized network, you are able to clearly communicate and document your thoughts, and you have a desire to contribute to the space.

Responsibilities

  • Read and understand a protocol specification and be able to break it into issues and turn it into Rust code
  • Design and implement new features for the client
  • Refactor and improve existing features in the client
  • Ensure the client says compatible with the other client implementations
  • Collaborate with and assist team members on their issues
  • Collaborate with other protocol implementation teams to share knowledge on the protocol, whether it be high-level protocol details or technical details that are common to every client
  • Communicate effectively with the team and document your code and the client as a whole

Required skills and experience

  • Proficiency in Rust
  • Knowledge of system design in Rust
  • Be able to proactively dive into novel territory and share knowledge on what you've learned

Nice to have

  • Experience with Go, as the Filecoin reference implementation (Lotus) is written in Go
  • Experience with blockchain protocols, whether it be usage of a blockchain API, knowledge of how a blockchain operates, or any other experience
  • Experience with distributed systems, peer-to-peer systems, network programming, and cryptography
  • Experience writing software from a technical specification or a reference implementation
  • Experience maintaining a large codebase with many components and keeping it well-designed, future-proofed, and modular
  • Experience with documenting a large codebase, both for internal and user-facing components
  • Familiarity with open-source software principles

We strongly encourage you to apply even if you donโ€™t fit all the requirements. You donโ€™t have to match all the listed requirements exactly to be considered for this role.

Hiring Steps

Candidates for this position can expect the hiring process at Chainsafe to follow the order below. Please keep in mind that candidates can be declined from the position at any stage of the process.

  • Qualified candidates will be invited to schedule a 30-45 minute screening call with one of our tech recruiters
  • Next, candidates will be invited to schedule a 60-minute Cultural Interview with one of our Project Managers
  • Then, Candidates will be asked to complete a technical task that takes under 4 hours, but we provide up to 5 business days to complete
  • Last, candidates will be invited to schedule a 60-minute interview with the Team Lead

We welcome your fresh perspectives and ideas

At ChainSafe, diversity and inclusion are more than a statement; equality and accessibility are guiding principles embedded in who we are - and why we do what we do. We recognize the benefits of a diverse team and aspire to embed respect for all people into our culture, values, and day-to-day practices. We encourage women, LGBTQIA+ people, people of colour, and members of any other group underrepresented in the blockchain space (or tech in general) to apply.

ChainSafe is a remote-first company with an international team. We offer opportunities for personal and professional learning and growth, value autonomy and responsibility, and have a results-driven environment, flexible work hours and time-off policy, as well as competitive salary.

Salary will be determined through the interview process after a review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, equity, and location, as well as alignment with market data.

\nWir machen IoT powered by light. No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to Developer and Digital Nomad jobs that are similar:\n\n $60,000 — $130,000/year\n

\nDescription\n\nWe are looking for a software engineer to join our team as we expand our connected portfolio. Reporting to the Communications Software Engineering Manager, you will be a key member of the software team and will help to develop the next generation of connected solutions for future Dyson products. We work in a supportive environment, in a team which is constantly aiming to improve itself. We’re looking for someone who shares this ethic, and expresses a desire to create high-quality, robust code to solve diverse real-world problems. You must be fluent in C/C++ and be equally comfortable with high-level design and abstraction as with implementation, deployment, testing and debugging of application code.\n\nMarket Overview\n\nHome to our global Research, Design and Development centre and all of our Commercial functions, Dyson HQ is tucked away in countryside famous for the railway tunnels and bridges of Isambard Brunel, who revolutionised modern engineering. Our secluded location helps us to protect our ideas and stay independent-minded. Yet nearby are the fashionable cities of Bristol and Bath (where a young James Dyson invented cyclone technology).\n\nThe building is the heartbeat of Dyson. Nearly 2,000 people, including James himself, spend their days strategizing, inventing technology and telling the Dyson story to the world. In 2017, our HQ will double its footprint with an ambitious new expansion.\n\nFunction Overview\n\nIn the future, the way technology is controlled will be integral to how it performs. Dyson software engineers are already transforming the way our owners interact with their machines. Our first connected robot vacuum launched in 2014 and its companion app takes cleaning into the digital era. Scheduling cleans. Reviewing mapping data. Diagnosing technical issues. Our new technology is advancing at speed. Network-based robotics and intelligent sensing technologies, all enabled by advanced software and app platforms. And all cementing Dyson’s place as a pioneering global technology organisation.\n\nAccountabilities\n\n• Development and delivery of embedded software and communication protocols for consumer products, using agile practices\n\n• Development of tools to support embedded software product development.\n\n• Development of testing and validation strategies.\n\n• Maintenance and enhancement of software for existing Dyson products.\n\n• Administration and maintenance of supporting infrastructure for software development.\n\n• Integration of software with hardware\n\nSkills\n\nEssential\n\n• Experience of developing real-time embedded products\n\n• Experience in high level languages including: C and C++\n\n• Experience of RTOS and/or embedded OS e.g. FreeRTOS, ThreadX, Linux etc\n\n• Exposure to one or more of the following: WiFi (802.11), Bluetooth V4.x, ZigBee, 802.15.4, 3GPP, MQTT\n\n• Knowledge of UML\n\n• Exposure to development in an Agile (Scrum) environment\n\n• Ability to prioritize and manage your workload\n\n• Strong communication skills\n\nDesirable\n\n• Experience in scripting languages, including Python\n\n• Experience in Java and Objective C\n\n• Experience of Atlassian Development and Collaboration tools (JIRA, Confluence, Stash etc.)\n\n• Experience of using Enterprise Architect\n\nBenefits Overview\n\nDyson monitors the market to ensure competitive salaries and pension contributions. Beyond that, you’ll also enjoy a profit-related bonus, generous leave and life insurance. But financial benefits are only the start of a Dyson career. Rapid professional growth, leadership development and new opportunities abound, driven by regular reviews and dynamic workshops. And with a vibrant culture, flexible working hours, the latest devices and a relaxed dress code, it’s an exciting team environment geared to creativity, innovation and ambition. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to Engineer, Developer, Digital Nomad, Java, C and Linux jobs that are similar:\n\n $70,000 — $120,000/year\n
