You will be tasked to build a web-based product for developers to deploy their web application simply, with zero configuration.

You are a T-shaped developer who is driven and autonomous.

The deep side of the T is about building the app. You must be able to build a performant, user-friendly and bug-free web app in Go and HTMX.

The broad side of the T is about web frameworks in general: the tool is able to install a wide range of web apps using a wide range of frameworks, so it helps if you know some of (or at least are familiar with) the full tech stack of the most popular languages: Python, PHP, JS.

You need to know how to install a web app on a server in a production-ready state with low traffic (1 request per second) in less than 2 hours, in the tech stack of your choice. You will be asked in detail about that during the interview, but you won't have to actually do it during the interview.

You will communicate you progress with me, and I will discuss the roadmap with you and review your code.

This is a fully async, fully remote position. All interviews will be conducted in written or spoken English.

You need to know (or work around, or learn before starting the contract) the following technologies, most important first:

  • Go (Golang)
  • HTMX
  • Web apps in general
  • Linux
  • Nginx or another reverse proxy
  • SSL (certificates management)
  • IP stack, firewalling, basic network security
  • DNS
  • CSS

Required qualities:

  • Intelligence
  • A despise of complexity
  • Clear communication
  • Autonomy and initiative
  • Relentless ressourcefulness

When replying to this offer:

  • Keep communication concise and to the point.
  • Tell me why I should choose you for this project and why you can deliver it on time and on budget.

Please, pleasy-please, read and respect the following 5 notes before applying with a single click:

  1. Instead of using the RemoteOK built-in application system where the systems sends the employer a note like "John is interested in this position, click here to see his RemoteOK CV" please just send your CV in PDF format to the following E-Mail address: [email protected]
  2. We'll pay you 1500 EUR per month for 6h per day, Monday to Friday. It's hard to stay focused for 8 hours straight, therefore more than 6h per day don't make sense. You can have other jobs on the side, but not while you're dedicating your daily 6h to Lightup. The 6h must get spent dedicated, continous, without interruption and without doing other tasks at the same time.
  3. You'll find a keyword at the end of this job description. Include it in your E-Mail to us, either in the subject or in the body of your E-Mail, so that we know you're clear about what you're actually applying for vs. just applying for a ton of jobs in a random fashion because that's not cool. E-Mails without the keyword will get ignored.
  4. If there are should be typing or grammar mistakes in your CV we'll already know that you don't pay much attention to detail and in this case you're the wrong candidate for this job.
  5. Thanks for your cooperation, these are some prerequisites to save time on both sides. :-)

Now, about the actual job: Lightup was established in 1998 in Frankfurt, Germany as a Hosting & Domain Provider and today is still a small but international Internet Full-Service & Telephony Service Provider, focusing heavily on web-based telecommunication services (VoIP) since 2011. We're need more developers to create more cool web telecom-related projects and apps. 100% of our team works from remote.

To compensate for the monthly kind of low payment of just 1500 EUR, which may be too low for some parts of the world, we're offering you a quite unique profit sharing model: For every web project that you turn into reality, you'll receive 20% of the profit that this project generates for as long as you stay with Lightup. That way, you'll be also extra motivated to extend the service you just created and keep it running and improve it over time while it's growing, generating you even more profit every month. We love to see our employees happy, and if the company is profiting as a whole, you as an individual should profit from that, too.

We'll create the ideas, and you'll put these projects into reality. Your profile:

  • You are awesome at working independently and self-sufficient, you are great at researching using Google and AI tools extensively to find the infos you need & to learn.
  • You could, in theory, build functional websites from scratch without relying on AI or programming tools.
  • You can write code from scratch using your brain, without AI, and just by using a text editor (if need be).
  • Coding means actually writing manual code for you, not copy'ing & paste'ing code snippets that you found on the web. To you, coding also doesn't mean dragging objects from A to B in some visual "programming" tool.

In other words, you're a real programmer!

Your skills:

  • Perfect English & typing proficiency. No typos, no grammar mistakes.
  • You can create Android apps from scratch, from start to finish, by yourself.
  • You can handle the Linux shell and you can navigate through a Linux-based filesystem using just command line tools.
  • You're a master of the programming language(s) of your choice that allow you to create web-projects (PHP, Python, whatever).
  • You are very good at SQL, you understand the inner workings of e.g. MySQL and thus you know what makes queries slow and what makes them fast.
  • All of this requires that you already have plenty of experience, if you are new to all of this or if you think AI will be able to handle these requirements for you, then you are not the right candidate.
  • You have used vi or vim before.

What the job will look like in practice:

  • We're defining the inner workings and features of the to-be-created web-based service, or app, together.
  • You'll start at 0 and build these services & apps from the ground up, independently, by yourself.
  • We'll communicate permanently via Slack.
  • Here you can find the keyword so that we'll know you actually read until here: Work-in-underpants.
  • No travelling required, you can do this job from anywhere in the world with a stable, broadband internet connection. External keyboard + external mouse required in case you're working on a laptop, otherwise you would be too slow for what we expect from you.
  • We are a German company, and precision and speed are key to this role. :-)

And now, we're looking forward to read from you - thank you!

Level is building a modern remote monitoring and management solution. We are a small, well-funded, team that recently launched our product. We are searching for a strong, multi-talented individual contributor who is comfortable with systems-level programming and networking and can contribute to our agent, written in Go.

Must-Haves
- Deep knowledge of a systems language like C, Rust, or Go.
- Not afraid to dig into an RFC. Low-level internals excites you, rather than scare you away.
- Experience with system-level APIs in Windows (win32), macOS, and/or Linux.
- Excellent written communicator.
- Willing to learn and work with Go.

Nice-to-Haves
- You are comfortable using GCC and find yourself at home going through a C codebase.
- Familiarity with RPC and common methods of IPC such as sockets and named pipes.
- Video encoding experience. You have worked with VP8 and understand the spec.
- Building cross-platform libraries, our Go agent compiles to Windows, Darwin, and Linux on a variety of architectures.

Things you might work on
- Building a cross-platform application management system to give users the ability to automatically install and update apps.
- Working with VP8 to reduce the latency and bandwidth when streaming a device.
- Creating a native GUI for the agent.
- Adding a proxy to the agent that enables remote access to routers and switches.
- Implementing Trickle ICE to improve WebRTC connection times.

Why you might want to work with us
- We are a small, fully remote engineering team, and there are no layers of bureaucracy. You can have a huge impact here.
- We are very flexible with working hours, we don't expect you to work a consistent block of time, and we trust you to get your work done.
- We launched within the last year and are starting to grow.

Why you might not want to work with us
- We are an early-stage startup, and while we are well funded, we are careful with our runway and haven't splurged on extra perks like gym memberships or 401k matching.
- You want to work with a large team. We believe that small teams are better and do not intend to hire more until it is painful enough to warrant doing so.

More About Us
We are a small, close-knit team working to upend the RMM market with our new product. We have recently launched and have acquired our first hundred customers. Though we are a startup, our investors have given us a multi-year runway.

Our agent team is small, with just two developers. This hire should be an experienced self-starter that can make an impact on our product development. We aren't interested in someone that just wants to work down a list of pre-defined tasks. Our ideal candidate loves working on products and will help shape the direction of ours. We're going to be improving this product for years and want someone to come on this journey with us.

We really like the Basecamp philosophy and try to make sure that it doesnโ€™t have to be crazy at work. We wonโ€™t ask that you work weekends, or late into the night. We donโ€™t mind if you need to leave for an appointment in the middle of the day. We understand that software development doesnโ€™t happen for 8 hours straight and donโ€™t worry about counting time in the chair. We trust that given a fair timeline with a scope that you help us determine you will be able to deliver features. We are concerned with the end goal, not micromanaging you on the way there.

Collaboration and communication are a critical aspect of how we work, a cover letter is a great way to provide a sample of how you communicate.

In your cover letter, please describe why youโ€™re interested in working at Level, and what draws you to this role in particular. Specifics of your past experience that are relevant to this role are great to include, too.
Please mention the word INTEGRAL when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMjE2LjczLjIxNi4xMg==). This is a feature to avoid fake spam applicants. Companies can search these words to find applicants that read this and instantly see they're human.

About Gruntwork

Gruntwork aims to improve humanity's most important invention: Software. Our focus today is on creating a DevOps UX that software engineers actually enjoy, which we do by creating building blocks that make launching in the cloud 10x better/faster/easier. We work with AWS, K8s, Terraform, Terragrunt, Terratest, Go, Typescript, and React, and introduce new tech as needed. Weโ€™re a small team (~20 people), but our clients include Toyota, Adobe, TicketMaster, Verizon, and hundreds of startups.

We are profitable, self-funded (no investors, no debt), and pay salaries, equity, and bonuses according to transparent formulas. We are 100% remote, with 2/3 of our team in the USA and 1/3 in Europe. We plan company-wide in-person meetups every few months and are known world-wide for both DevOps thought leadership and our popular open source tools, Terragrunt and Terratest.

Our measure of a successful Grunt is (1) think like an owner, (2) make impact, (3) communicate effectively, (4) be a good person. If this sounds like you, we're hiring!

About The Role

Our infrastructure as code library and platform team delivers an end-to-end, best-practices infrastructure on AWS in just days, all as a product. In this role, youโ€™ll collaborate with other senior-level engineers to define the next generation of AWS and DevOps best practices, codify them for use by thousands of engineers, and design a next-level experience for implementing, operating and understanding them.

What You'll Work On

  • Build a better DevOps experience.ย We have a unique product that generates complete, multi-account AWS architectures for Terraform and Terragrunt in just a few hours using a collection of internal Golang tools. Help us take this to the next level by using that product to deliver prod architectures directly to customers, and then leveraging their feedback for improvements. Better yet, help us get to the point where the entire experience is completely automated or self-service.
  • Codify AWS and Terraform best practices.ย Customers look to Gruntwork to share the best way to launch on AWS. Discover AWS and Terraform best practices, and then codify them as repeatable patterns that Gruntwork customers can pull off the shelf.
  • Integrate with the Gruntwork platform.ย Integrate your product work with our company-wide platform, which consists of a REST API (Next.js/Typescript), a web-based single-page app (Next.js/React/Typescript, Tailwind), and a first-class CLI tool (Go).
  • Build out the Infrastructure as Code Library.ย Create and maintain reusable infrastructure modules for a variety of infrastructure (e.g., EKS, ECS, RDS, VPC, Lambda, EC2, S3, ElastiCache, etc.), using a variety of tools (e.g., Terraform, Go, Python, Bash, Docker, Packer, etc.) on AWS.
  • Contribute to open source.ย Contribute to our open source projects as needed, including Terragrunt, Terratest, cloud-nuke, bash-commons, and more.
  • Train and mentor.ย Play to your strengths and areas of expertise by not only writing code and working on the product but also by sharing knowledge and mentoring both other team members and our customers in those areas.
  • Support customers.ย Gruntwork is a small, distributed, self-funded, profitable startup, so we'll ask you to provide a limited amount of support to enable learning directly from customers about how we can improve and continue achieving our vision of making it easier to understand, build, and deploy software.

Your Ideal Background

You should meet some of these requirements, but you don't need to meet all of them. As a company, we look for people who can leverage their existing skills to make significant impact in the near term. As an individual, you are likely looking for a growth opportunity, a core part of which is building new skills.

  • You know how to write code across the stack and have experience in one or more of the following: Go, C++, Python, Typescript, Bash, React, Next.js
  • You have production-level experience with AWS.
  • You have expertise in one or more of the following: Kubernetes (any managed offering, preferably EKS), ECS<, EC2, Lambda / Serverless, API Gateway, RDS, S3, AWS Config, AWS CloudTrail, Amazon GuardDuty, IAM, VPC, VPN.
  • You have worked with Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code tools like CloudFormation, CDK, or Pulumi in prod.
  • You have experience achieving compliance and going through audits (e.g., SOC2, HIPAA, vendor, etc).
  • You have a strong background in software engineering.
  • You have strong communication skills in English and are comfortable engaging with external customers.

Your Ideal Values

  • You have a passion for imparting best practices to other developers.
  • But you would rather invest the time to automate a problem than do the same work again.
  • You have a passion for learning (new technologies and languages specifically).
  • But you are motivated most by making impact.
  • You are inspired by our values (https://gruntwork.io/about/#our-values).

Compatible Time Zones

You'll be working with a team in theย US time zones, so you can be located in almost any country as long as your time zone is no further west than Los Angeles (GMT-8/GMT-7) and no further east than New York (GMT-5/GMT-4). We've found that when everyone on the team is located in similar time zones, it's easier to collaborate and there's much less pressure to stay up late or get up early, so this is a hard constraint, even if you're willing to work hours different from your current time zone.

Benefits

Our benefits reflect our values. We believe compensation should be fair, transparent, and generous. We hire Grunts in many countries, so some details may vary.

  • Location Independent, Above-Market Salary.ย To reduce bias and increase transparency, we compute all salaries using formulas. The formula factors in your title and uses a multiplier to produce a result that's above market for that title. Our salaries are location independent.
  • Profit-Sharing Bonus.ย We set aside a pot of money at the end of each year based on profits and distribute bonuses according to a formula that uses as inputs your level within the company and the length of your tenure at the company.
  • Hardware Budget.ย We'll buy you a brand new 16" Apple MacBook Pro (or other computer of your choosing of equivalent value) upon joining. It will be owned by you, not the company.
  • Personal Budget.ย We'll give you a personal budget of $1,000 USD per month to spend on your workspace (e.g., a co-working space), health (e.g., gym, yoga), time (e.g., babysitter), and/or learning (e.g., books, courses).
  • Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance.ย We offer a range of high-quality plans with a large portion paid by the company. For countries other than the US, this includes extra coverage on top of your statutory insurance.

In addition to the global benefits listed above, we have some US-specific benefits as well:

  • FSA and HSAs.ย We don't contribute to these accounts, but we do offer them as an option.
  • 401(k).ย We contribute a portion of your salary to your 401(k).
  • Disability insurance.ย If you get disabled, we have a policy that will pay out a portion of your salary.

Life First, Then Work

We believe in planning our work around our lives, not the other way around. To help achieve that we offer:

  • Remote workย that lets you control your hours and physical location.
  • Normal working hoursย that usually amount to not more than ~40h per week, and no working on weekends or holidays.
  • Deliberate project planningย that takes into account the time zone of all team members.
  • A minimum vacation policyย where you must takeย at leastย 4 weeks per year away from work.
  • No one carrying a pagerย and no on-call rotation. We enable this by only offering support contracts with SLAs of responses on business days / hours only.

  • Being comfortable taking the initiative and enjoying solving problems by using your technical nouse.

  • Technically we would like to see experience with Linux & working in, deploying, and troubleshooting NodeJS/C# based solutions.

Who are we?ย

At RDX Works, we're a team of like-minded thinkers who have long been convinced that we're living in the earliest stages of a global financial revolution. This revolution is being fuelled by decentralized finance (or DeFi for short), which is enabling an assortment of pioneering developers and entrepreneurs to re-invent almost every financial product that is currently traded and invested in traditional markets, without requiring central authorities or siloed infrastructure. DeFi has captured a great deal of attention and investment in the crypto-aware niche, growing assets under management from $1 billion to over $200 billion in a few years. Impressive as its growth has been, its current market size isn't even a rounding error on the over $400 trillion held in traditional finance. We're focused on what it will take to go from billions to trillions.

RDX went back to first principles to come up with the right technical solutionโ€”the first layer-one protocol built specifically for mainstream DeFiโ€”and we have already tested out at over 1 million transactions per second. We're keenly aware that the need for an infinitely scalable platform is only one prerequisite among many for mass adoption, and we're also blazing new ground in the areas of purpose-built developer tools, user experiences, and regulatory integration.

We have forged a path deep into the future of what distributed ledger technology is going to look like and we need you to come and be part of the team that is making that happen right now.

If this job sounds like it was made for you, then please apply directly via the link or if you donโ€™t have an up to date CV to apply with, contact [email protected] for more information.

Alternatively, if you feel like you donโ€™t match all of the requirements, we would love you to still apply anyway. We understand that confidence gaps and imposter syndrome can get in the way of meeting incredible candidates and we wouldnโ€™t want this to prevent us from meeting you; especially as we are big advocates of helping people learn & grow. This is also another reason we do not advertise salaries, we want to keep it as even a playing field as possible!ย

**About Fugue**\n\nFugue helps engineers build and operate secure cloud infrastructure. We continuously monitor infrastructure-as-code and cloud resources for our customers, report on vulnerabilities that we find, and help remediate the underlying issues. Our platform and open source tools are used in CI/CD pipelines to spot misconfigurations early and fix them before they are deployed to production environments.\n\nWe are headquartered in Frederick, MD and have always been remote-friendly. This year we took that one step further and now consider ourselves remote-first, but we also aim to provide office space to those who want it.\n\n\n**Our Product Team**\n\nEngineering at Fugue is part of our Product team. Weโ€™re a friendly, small, and nimble group of experienced engineers who are having a great time building and scaling the Fugue SaaS. Youโ€™ll contribute to sprint planning and help ship product updates regularly. Youโ€™ll need familiarity with at least one of the major cloud providers and must be able to contribute significantly in a codebase of Python and Go. Your focus will be on backend services, but there are opportunities to assist with frontend development as well.\n\n\n**Requirements**\n\n* 5+ years of software development experience\n* Knowledge of web technologies and Linux proficiency\n* Familiarity with Python or Go\n* Proven track record of problem solving and helping ship software products\n* Experience with deploying infrastructure or applications in AWS\n* Experience or interest in cloud engineering and cloud security\n* Proficiency with automated testing and CI/CD\n\nIf you have experience with CloudFormation, Terraform, or other infrastructure-as-code technologies, then thatโ€™s a real bonus. Also, we work with these tools and technologies, so any background with these is a plus: Open Policy Agent, Swagger APIs, MySQL, Redshift, Docker, and serverless computing in AWS.\n\n\n**More about Fugue**\n\nThe principles that matter most to us as a company are to be Curious, Considerate, Customer obsessed, Collaborative, and Committed. Working on a team that lives by these principles is tremendously important both for personal job satisfaction and also our overall productivity and success as a team.\n\nWe offer competitive compensation, a great healthcare plan, and a remote-friendly culture. Plus we offer a free Developer plan for use by any engineer that is looking to secure their cloud.\n\nAt Fugue we believe that the only way to build a successful company is by building a diverse team of talented, smart individuals. \nIf you’re looking for an exciting, high-growth opportunity with an award-winning, cutting-edge company, this could be just the job for you\n\nFor its groundbreaking PaaS solution https://platform.sh is looking for a Pythonian Cloud Engineer with a taste for Go, good Linux system understanding, and a real hunger for the challenges of building robust, distributed systems.\n\nPlatform.sh is a PaaS shrouded in a lot of black magic (we can consistently clone a whole running cluster, with its state, databases, indexes in a matter of seconds). We want to get this down to the hundreds of milliseconds domain. Interested? There is more...\n\nOur external API is pure Hypermedia REST + oAuth on top of Pyramid. It mechanizes the Git layer and needs more features.\n\nWe can consistently generate from the same manifest a Docker container, an LXC one, or VM disk images (AWS, Azure, OpenStack), we want more targets.\n\nWe probably have the highest industry container density. We need to get it higher.\n\nWe support any Python, Ruby, NodeJS, PHP, Java and .NET time to roll-out Elixir, of course Elixir, and Rust.\n\nWe need to have more auto-healing on the high-availability clusters. We need more performance out of our multi-protocol ssh proxy. We need work on our Ceph Implementation; We need to get the Debian package generation streamlined and faster. We need… great ideas on how to make Platform.sh even better. Interested? Join us!\n\nThis is a remote position and occasional travel to cool places like Paris, France, may be required.\n\nSkills & requirements:\n\nRequired:\n\n\n* Be a really really good dev that likes testing, understands how an OS works, knows networking, how git works, and the constraints of a distributed system.\n\n* Be proficient in Python (2 out of 3 of our dev team learned it while on the job, but we'd prefer someone who has already mastered it.)\n\n\n\n\nWould be really great if you had:\n\n\n* Great Golang experience.\n\n* Experience with C (we contribute to a bunch of upstream projects, like LXC) is a plus; Love not required.\n\n* Great knowledge of Git\n\n* Good Networking background (routing/protocols)\n\n* Good grasp of practical security and cryptography\n\n* Experience with other programming languages (Haskell anyone? Java, Javascript, Ruby, PHP? Common Lisp?)\n\n* Good knowledge of how the Web works (Hacking Nginx with Lua a plus).\n\n* Good understanding of how database systems and search engines work\n\n* A good notion on distributed systems (consensus protocols like Raft/Paxos, eventual consistency models, gossip protocols)\n\n* Working knowledge of Puppet\n\n* Mad Debian Skills. Sporting a Debian plaid cloth during the interview is not frowned upon.\n\n\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to Cloud, Python, Developer, Digital Nomad, Java, C, Git, API, Travel, Golang, Engineer, Nginx and Linux jobs that are similar:\n\n $70,000 — $120,000/year\n
