๐ Please reference you found the job on Remote OK, this helps us get more companies to post here, thanks!
When applying for jobs, you should NEVER have to pay to apply. You should also NEVER have to pay to buy equipment which they then pay you back for later. Also never pay for trainings you have to do. Those are scams! NEVER PAY FOR ANYTHING! Posts that link to pages with "how to work online" are also scams. Don't use them or pay for them. Also always verify you're actually talking to the company in the job post and not an imposter. About Gruntwork
Gruntwork aims to improve humanity's most important invention: Software. Our focus today is on creating a DevOps UX that software engineers actually enjoy, which we do by creating building blocks that make launching in the cloud 10x better/faster/easier. We work with AWS, K8s, Terraform, Terragrunt, Terratest, Go, Typescript, and React, and introduce new tech as needed. Weโre a small team (~20 people), but our clients include Toyota, Adobe, TicketMaster, Verizon, and hundreds of startups.
We are profitable, self-funded (no investors, no debt), and pay salaries, equity, and bonuses according to transparent formulas. We are 100% remote, with 2/3 of our team in the USA and 1/3 in Europe. We plan company-wide in-person meetups every few months and are known world-wide for both DevOps thought leadership and our popular open source tools, Terragrunt and Terratest.
Our measure of a successful Grunt is (1) think like an owner, (2) make impact, (3) communicate effectively, (4) be a good person. If this sounds like you, we're hiring!
About The Role
Our infrastructure as code library and platform team delivers an end-to-end, best-practices infrastructure on AWS in just days, all as a product. In this role, youโll collaborate with other senior-level engineers to define the next generation of AWS and DevOps best practices, codify them for use by thousands of engineers, and design a next-level experience for implementing, operating and understanding them.
What You'll Work On
Build a better DevOps experience.ย We have a unique product that generates complete, multi-account AWS architectures for Terraform and Terragrunt in just a few hours using a collection of internal Golang tools. Help us take this to the next level by using that product to deliver prod architectures directly to customers, and then leveraging their feedback for improvements. Better yet, help us get to the point where the entire experience is completely automated or self-service.
Codify AWS and Terraform best practices.ย Customers look to Gruntwork to share the best way to launch on AWS. Discover AWS and Terraform best practices, and then codify them as repeatable patterns that Gruntwork customers can pull off the shelf.
Integrate with the Gruntwork platform.ย Integrate your product work with our company-wide platform, which consists of a REST API (Next.js/Typescript), a web-based single-page app (Next.js/React/Typescript, Tailwind), and a first-class CLI tool (Go).
Build out the Infrastructure as Code Library.ย Create and maintain reusable infrastructure modules for a variety of infrastructure (e.g., EKS, ECS, RDS, VPC, Lambda, EC2, S3, ElastiCache, etc.), using a variety of tools (e.g., Terraform, Go, Python, Bash, Docker, Packer, etc.) on AWS.
Contribute to open source.ย Contribute to our open source projects as needed, including Terragrunt, Terratest, cloud-nuke, bash-commons, and more.
Train and mentor.ย Play to your strengths and areas of expertise by not only writing code and working on the product but also by sharing knowledge and mentoring both other team members and our customers in those areas.
Support customers.ย Gruntwork is a small, distributed, self-funded, profitable startup, so we'll ask you to provide a limited amount of support to enable learning directly from customers about how we can improve and continue achieving our vision of making it easier to understand, build, and deploy software.
Your Ideal Background
You should meet some of these requirements, but you don't need to meet all of them. As a company, we look for people who can leverage their existing skills to make significant impact in the near term. As an individual, you are likely looking for a growth opportunity, a core part of which is building new skills.
You know how to write code across the stack and have experience in one or more of the following: Go, C++, Python, Typescript, Bash, React, Next.js
You have production-level experience with AWS.
You have expertise in one or more of the following: Kubernetes (any managed offering, preferably EKS), ECS<, EC2, Lambda / Serverless, API Gateway, RDS, S3, AWS Config, AWS CloudTrail, Amazon GuardDuty, IAM, VPC, VPN.
You have worked with Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code tools like CloudFormation, CDK, or Pulumi in prod.
You have experience achieving compliance and going through audits (e.g., SOC2, HIPAA, vendor, etc).
You have a strong background in software engineering.
You have strong communication skills in English and are comfortable engaging with external customers.
Your Ideal Values
You have a passion for imparting best practices to other developers.
But you would rather invest the time to automate a problem than do the same work again.
You have a passion for learning (new technologies and languages specifically).
But you are motivated most by making impact.
You are inspired by our values (https://gruntwork.io/about/#our-values).
Compatible Time Zones
You'll be working with a team in theย US time zones, so you can be located in almost any country as long as your time zone is no further west than Los Angeles (GMT-8/GMT-7) and no further east than New York (GMT-5/GMT-4). We've found that when everyone on the team is located in similar time zones, it's easier to collaborate and there's much less pressure to stay up late or get up early, so this is a hard constraint, even if you're willing to work hours different from your current time zone.
Benefits
Our benefits reflect our values. We believe compensation should be fair, transparent, and generous. We hire Grunts in many countries, so some details may vary.
Location Independent, Above-Market Salary.ย To reduce bias and increase transparency, we compute all salaries using formulas. The formula factors in your title and uses a multiplier to produce a result that's above market for that title. Our salaries are location independent.
Profit-Sharing Bonus.ย We set aside a pot of money at the end of each year based on profits and distribute bonuses according to a formula that uses as inputs your level within the company and the length of your tenure at the company.
Hardware Budget.ย We'll buy you a brand new 16" Apple MacBook Pro (or other computer of your choosing of equivalent value) upon joining. It will be owned by you, not the company.
Personal Budget.ย We'll give you a personal budget of $1,000 USD per month to spend on your workspace (e.g., a co-working space), health (e.g., gym, yoga), time (e.g., babysitter), and/or learning (e.g., books, courses).
Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance.ย We offer a range of high-quality plans with a large portion paid by the company. For countries other than the US, this includes extra coverage on top of your statutory insurance.
In addition to the global benefits listed above, we have some US-specific benefits as well:
FSA and HSAs.ย We don't contribute to these accounts, but we do offer them as an option.
401(k).ย We contribute a portion of your salary to your 401(k).
Disability insurance.ย If you get disabled, we have a policy that will pay out a portion of your salary.
Life First, Then Work
We believe in planning our work around our lives, not the other way around. To help achieve that we offer:
Remote workย that lets you control your hours and physical location.
Normal working hoursย that usually amount to not more than ~40h per week, and no working on weekends or holidays.
Deliberate project planningย that takes into account the time zone of all team members.
A minimum vacation policyย where you must takeย at leastย 4 weeks per year away from work.
No one carrying a pagerย and no on-call rotation. We enable this by only offering support contracts with SLAs of responses on business days / hours only.

Seam builds digital and physical infrastructure to enable software developers to connect their applications with the physical devices around us
Seam builds an API for IoT devices. This lets developers unlock doors, set access codes, turn off thermostats, read sensors and moreโall using a single API that works across brands and standardizes common device functions.
Who We Are
Our team were early engineers at Nest, Github, Sonder, Square...etc. We shipped millions of IoT devices and built dev tools used by every developer on earth. We are advised by the amazing Bunnie Huang and backed by YC and some of the best hard-tech investors.
Overview
We are looking for software engineers, preferably proficient in Typescript. This role will involve a number of projects up and down our stack. We like people that are comfortable moving around.
Backend API
Our high-level goal is to build a device/manufacturer agnostic integration layer that connects to various devices and exposes their functionality through a simple API. This task involves integrating dozens of different IoT brands and their protocols (z-wave, zigbee, bacnet, OEM API...etc) and neatly organizing them amongst common functionality.
This is one of our client libraries. The unlock functionality presented here works the exact same way across dozen of brands.
Seam Connect
This is an embeddable UX flow that developers add to their applications. It then allows their applications' users to grant access to their devices. Seam Connect guides users through selecting their device brands, entering their credentials, and dealing with edge cases like 2FA or multi-tenant accounts. For example, Airbnb can ask their host for access to their smart locks and thermostats. This then enables Airbnb to automate guest access and save energy while the unit is unoccupied.
Client Libraries
We often ponder how to create the best developer experience possible for our customers. To that end, we're big believers in client libraries over just offering a pure HTTP API. Though that API is available and documented, our customers have told us that being able to not think about the underlying HTTP requests makes our product enjoyable to work with. Some of our customers even suggest and implement changes to our client libraries!
We primarily write Seam using Typescript. We also believe that "best DevOps is no DevOps." To that end, we're trying to use serverless to run our entire infra. Let's just say this hasn't been without its challenges :) But we're trying different things and always open to new ideas! Our primary datastore is Postgres.

\n(Remote, Full-Time, Anywhere in the World)\n\nWe are looking for a skilled and passionate Full Stack Software Engineer to join our Tech Team to build and scale effective software solutions. We are in need of an enthusiastic self-starter with expertise in building highly functional solutions involving multiple systems using the Javascript (Node, Express, React stack).\n\nWhat We Do\n\nWe work with niche companies in the US, Canada, the UK to restructure and automate their operation so that their businesses can grow 5-10x. We do that by effectively analyzing their business, streamlining their processes, and designing an effective automation solution that we then implement on our robust IT stack.\n\nWe make extensive use of technologies that help us accomplish results with less work — making everyone inside of our global organization more effective. \n\nWe heavily leverage: \n\n\n* \n\nAmazon AWS's serverless technologies and microservices for our front-end, back-end, and mobile apps (Lambda, Amplify, Cognito, S3, etc.).\n\n\n* \n\nZoho's CRM and ERP Tools (Desk, Books, etc.).\n\n\n* \n\nVonage/Nexmo-based telephony and communications solutions (Vonage Business Phone, Nexmo Voice/SMS, OpenTalk, etc.).\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are always looking for new technologies and welcome team members adding things to our technology stack so we can deliver more results more effectively. \n\nWhat You Will Do\n\nAs an Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering the solution as per requirements put together by our Creative and Business Analysis Teams. Depending on your level, you will be responsible for either the entire project (with other engineers working in your project team) or for a part of it. \n\nYour ultimate deliverable will be to effectively build a solution that will be implemented in the client's business and run successfully going forward.\n\nIn doing so, you will:\n\n\n* \n\nDesign and architect complex solutions involving web apps (front+back), custom CRM/ERP's, programmable telephony, and occasionally mobile apps.\n\n\n* \n\nDeliver and implement your solutions.\n\n\n* \n\nCreate effective monitoring of the solutions for effective usage and scalability.\n\n\n* \n\nDo anything else you deem necessary to accomplish your result.\n\n\n\n\n\nRequirements\n\nYou are:\n\n\n* \n\nResponsible and driven by results.\n\n\n* \n\nGenuinely interested in technology.\n\n\n* \n\nWilling to learn, grow, and admit mistakes.\n\n\n* \n\nAble to communicate with other people on the project's team effectively.\n\n\n\n\n\nYou have:\n\n\n* \n\nA solid knowledge of Node.js, React, Express, and TypeScript.\n\n\n* \n\nExperience with complex SQL and NoSQL databases.\n\n\n* \n\nExperience with APIs to connect complex applications.\n\n\n* \n\nEffective written and verbal English to communicate with our international team.\n\n\n* \n\nBasic understanding of DevOps and SDLC to cooperate with other developers in building the product.\n\n\n\n\n\nWill be a good plus:\n\n\n* \n\nExperience with Amazon AWS, serverless technologies, and microservices on its platform.\n\n\n* \n\nExperience with CRM and ERP systems such as Zoho and others.\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat We Offer\n\n\n* \n\nResults-Focused Approach to Work\n\n\n\n\n\nWe do not look at people's activities, the number of lines of code written, etc., as the measure of success. We look strictly at the results in effectively delivered products. \n\n\n* \n\nResults Based Compensation Schedule\n\n\n\n\n\nThere is base pay and project bonus pay. Base pay varies significantly by the Engineer's level of ability and responsibility (Lead/Associate/Assistant) that the Engineer takes on projects - this level is reassessed after every project that the Engineer completes. Projects upon completion are rewarded with a bonus - bonus depends on the delivery of all requirements assigned to the Engineer, timeliness of delivery, rate of errors, and the amount of management attention needed in the project. Engineers who can deliver functional solutions that match requirements quickly and with little management action to correct errors get the best rewards and promotions in the organization.\n\n\n* \n\nFreely Arranged Schedule\n\n\n\n\n\nYou decide when you want to work. What we expect from you are results. There is a daily stand-up call — but outside of it, you can manage your schedule as you prefer.\n\n\n* \n\nWork as an Engineer, Not Just a Coder\n\n\n\n\n\nOur Engineers work to build solutions and not just to write code. You will have freedom in how you want to architect the solutions you are making and we will heavily encourage initiative on your part.\n\n\n* \n\nGrowth Within Our Organization\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are a dynamic and growing organization with a team spread around multiple continents. If you prove yourself as a responsible, driven and motivated individual, there will be opportunities for you to lead projects and manage tech teams.\n\nOur candidate selection process is designed to assess people strictly by their merit. We do not make you go through a long round of interviews, instead, we follow a straight-forward sequence:\n\n1. Job Application Form.\n\n2. Online Skills Assessment.\n\n3. Interview.\n\n4. Paid Practical Assignment.\n\n5. Evaluation and Offer. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n
