Remote Senior Data Engineer

Like the idea of supporting company-wide decisions? \n\nThen Jobber might be the place for you! Weโ€™re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to be part of our Business Technology team in our Business Operations (BizOps) Department.\n\nJobber exists to help people in small businesses be successful. We work with home and field service companies, like your local plumbers, painters, and landscapers, to help them better quote, schedule, invoice and collect payments from their customers. Being an entrepreneur in todayโ€™s world looks and operates very differently than it did in the past, so thatโ€™s why we put the power and flexibility in their hands to run their businesses how, where and when they want! \n\nOur culture of transparency, inclusivity, collaboration, and innovation has been recognized by Great Place to Work, Canadaโ€™s Most Admired Corporate Cultures, and more. Jobber has also been named on the Globe and Mailโ€™s Canadaโ€™s Top Growing Companies list, and Deloitte Canadaโ€™s Technology Fast 50โ„ข, Enterprise Fast 15, and Technology Fast 500โ„ข lists. With an Executive team that has over thirty years of industry experience of leading the way, weโ€™ve come a long way from our first customer in 2011โ€”but weโ€™ve just scratched the surface of what we want to accomplish for our customers.\n\nThe team:\n\nBusiness Technology is the engineering team within Business Operations, our internal consulting department - theyโ€™re the decision support mechanism that connects data, business insights and an internal tech stack (systems) with the rest of the organization. In essence, BizOps is a central function that exists to drive business outcomes in all corners of Jobberโ€™s ecosystem.\n\nThe role: \n\nReporting to the Director, Business Technology, the Senior Data Engineer will work on our Business Technology team which develops internal software, integrations and data infrastructure. Our work unlocks improved operational outcomes, workflow efficiencies and new business insights across our organization. We help teams leverage data, tools and technology in order to successfully execute on their own mandates. Lead initiatives to research, analyze and propose new technologies and tooling for our data engineering stack. Participate in design and code reviews - learn from your peers and teach your peers. Solve problems with technology and make decisions backed by data.\n\nBe the data integrity expert. If two reports are diverging, youโ€™re going to dive into the nitty gritty code to uncover the source of truth.\n\n\n\n\nTo be successful, you should have:\n\n\nExperience as a Data Engineer or similar role in an Agile/Scrum environment\n\nProficiency in writing code in a few different languages \n\nExperience in analytics dimensional modeling/star schema and data warehousing in a cloud envionrment (preferably AWS Redshift)\n\nExperience in building and maintaining data pipelines for ETL/ELT processes\n\nRelevant experience with data collection and ingestion from external sources, and optimizing data flow between different systems and environments.\n\nKnowledge of SQL including query performance debugging and tuning skills.\n\nFamiliarity of BI tools.\n\nExperience in developing and operating high-volume, high-available and scalable environments.\n\nStrong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with both non-technical and technical team members.\n\n\n\n\nIt would be really great (but not a deal-breaker) if you had any:\n\n\nUsing templated SQL in your ETL pipeline (eg. dbt)\n\nExperience with Integrations, APIs and working within their limitations.\n\nKnowledge or experience with Terraform \n\nBackend development experience, especially dealing with message queues and stream processing\n\nExperience with languages such as javascript and python\n\n* Experience with NoSQL\n\nKnowledge and experience of Airflow\n\n\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to Consulting, Sales, Design, JavaScript, Serverless, Cloud, Senior, Engineer and Digital Nomad jobs that are similar:\n\n $65,000 — $120,000/year\n

๐Ÿ‘‰ Please reference you found the job on Remote OK, this helps us get more companies to post here, thanks!

When applying for jobs, you should NEVER have to pay to apply. You should also NEVER have to pay to buy equipment which they then pay you back for later. Also never pay for trainings you have to do. Those are scams! NEVER PAY FOR ANYTHING! Posts that link to pages with "how to work online" are also scams. Don't use them or pay for them. Also always verify you're actually talking to the company in the job post and not an imposter. A good idea is to check the domain name for the site/email and see if it's the actual company's main domain name. Scams in remote work are rampant, be careful! Read more to avoid scams. Are you truly passionate about front-end development and hate to compromise on code quality because of clients and deadlines? Then read on!\n\nWe're a product-focused organization, which means that our codebase is our baby; it can never become too perfect and we continually push our ambitions upwards.\n\nWe're also the world's leading User Experience (UX) community - with over 1,5 million monthly visitors - and the biggest Course Platform for designers on the planet. Our claim to fame includes Forbes Magazine and we teach UX and Design to organizations like IBM and British Parliament.\n\nWe can offer you the freedom to shape your work schedule and the intangible and priceless feeling of having made an impact on the world. Believe us when we say that it can make your heart swell and your head giddy knowing that youโ€™ve truly improved someoneโ€™s life, let alone hundreds of thousands of lives each year.\n\nWe'd love if you could help us take our front-end code to the next level.\n\n\n\n# Responsibilities\n You will join our team as our Lead Front-End Developer and your main responsibilities will be as follows:\n\n* Lead our front-end efforts (3 people) and make principal architectural decisions.\n* Communicate with our design team, write specifications for the components of the new [IDF Design System](http://s3.amazonaws.com/idfprofilepictures/hiring/IDF+Design+System+-+Proposal.pdf) and implement them.\n* Create tactful and experience-enhancing animations in collaboration with our design team.\n* Maintain and optimize existing code and solutions (Vanilla JS, Vue.js, blade template engine) to perfection.\n\n**A future-proof tech stack**\n\n* We support evergreen browsers only ๐ŸŒฒ (ES2015+, grid layout, etc).\n* Weโ€™re constantly refactoring our front-end code with the goal of reaching front-end heaven:ย \n1. Vue.js for its simplicity and flexibility that comes with a very small size.\n1. PostCSS to maximize the power of modern CSS.\n1. Webpack for perfect control over front-end assets.\n1. Cypress.io and Jest for automated tests.\n1. PWA with offline experience.\n* Back-end based on PHP7 (and always the latest version of the Laravel framework).\n* Mixed single-page (for the most interactive parts) and multi-page application.\n* We๏ธ โค๏ธCI (Continuous Integration) and CD (Continuous Delivery) so we usually deploy a few releases per day: Zero downtime. Just a few buttons to push. No sweaty palms.\n* We care about Developer Experience (DX) of our codebase and tools. DX and DevOps is our middle name: git (github), docker, HTTP2, CDN, AWS and much more.\n* Is all code guilty until proven innocent? Even if not, we take testing to a new level: Unit tests, integration tests, end2end tests, TDD, etc.\n\n**Work conditions**\n* 100% remote full-time work with team trips 1-2 times a year in different places of the planet.\n* Flexible schedule with minimal number of meetings.\n* Team of true professionals and smooth onboarding process with a personal mentor.\n* A culture of learning and excellence:\n1. In our code reviews, we constructively reference [specific evergreen principles of programming](https://github.com/InteractionDesignFoundation/handbook/blob/master/library/front-end/clean-code-js.md) to supercharge our learning.\n1. We actively use a library of evergreen literature on[ front-end](http://github.com/InteractionDesignFoundation/handbook/blob/master/library/front-end/literature.md) and [back-end](http://github.com/InteractionDesignFoundation/handbook/blob/master/library/back-end/literature.md) development-related subjects.\n1. We believe that building timeless knowledge enables us to see through the hype and focus on what really matters.\n \n \n\n# Requirements\n* You have at least 5 years of experience working as a Front-End Developer.\n* You love to learn through doing. Youโ€™re ready to put in some hard work to expand your skills.\n* You prefer native Web APIs and functionality over alluring new frameworks - and you know how and when to use them.\n* You write testable code and love to solve architectural problems.\n* You speak and write acceptable English โ€“ not perfect English, just acceptable.\n* You are self-motivated and self-disciplined and thus work well in a flat hierarchy with lots of freedom.\n* You love to make a positive impact on the world and the lives of others. \n\nPlease mention the words **SKILL BLOOD OUTSIDE** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMy4xMi4xNTMuMjIx). This is a feature to avoid spam applicants. Companies can search these words to find applicants that read this and see they're human.\n\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to JavaScript, CSS, Design, Front End, Executive, Developer and Digital Nomad jobs that are similar:\n\n $60,000 — $120,000/year\n

Research shows that our money habits are formed by the age of seven. Thats a pretty amazing opportunity to help give kids a head-start in building habits that will stick with them for life.\n\n \nWHY ROOSTERMONEY?RoosterMoney has been featured in The Times, Telegraph, Guardian, FT, Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Australian Herald to name a few. \nIn addition to being an extraordinary engineer, we want a team member who is passionate on wearing different hats in a small product team:  designing new features, making good product decisions, writing bullet proof code, programming at all levels of the application stack, and contributing to the design of beautiful user interfaces.  We would like you to have most of the following skills prior to joining our team.  If you think you’re missing one or two skills, you can make up for it with passion, attention to detail, a collaborative attitude, a willingness to learn -- and we’ll teach you the rest when you arrive.\n\nResponsibilities\n\n\n* Participate in all phases of the system development lifecycle including creating technical designs, program code, test plans, and verifying test results. Apply reusable code design and design patterns in a test driven development environment\n\n* Develop technical design documentation based on functional design specifications and implement solutions using object oriented programming techniques\n\n* Work as part of a team of developers (user-interface, middle tier business logic, data access) and application architects interfacing with business analysts, database developers, infrastructure architects, and quality assurance testers to ensure the successful delivery of an integrated solution meeting the needs of the business.\n\n* Provide development estimates for implementation and project plans\n\n* Review applications in all phases of development to ensure adherence to development standards.\n\n* Research, recommend, and adopt best practices and design patterns for development.\n\n\n\n\n Qualifications\n\n\n* A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or a similar science and engineering discipline, and a minimum of 3 years of progressive post-graduate experience. \n\n* 3+ years as a professional engineer, building and maintaining web applications from concept to production.\n\n* Fluent with the core of our current technology: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and jQuery.\n\n* SharePoint 2013 administration and/or development experience using NCSS (No Code Sandbox Solutions) or SharePoint 2013 App Model is a very strong plus but not required.\n\n* Proven skills developing RESTful and oData services using C#.\n\n* Experience in writing complex SQL queries and executing SQL, TSQ, PL/SQL scripts using ADO.NET against MS SQL Server and Oracle databases.\n\n* Strong object oriented design skills and familiarity with n-tier applications and Service Oriented Architecture.\n\n* Preference given to candidates exposed to test driven development and agile software methodologies such as SCRUM and XP\n\n* US Citizens only, Secret Clearance required.\n\n\n\n\n EOE/M/F/D/V.  We participate in E-Verify \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to JavaScript, C, C Plus Plus, CSS, Quality Assurance, HTML, Admin, jQuery, Engineer, Sys Admin, Design, Front End, Developer and Digital Nomad jobs that are similar:\n\n $60,000 — $120,000/year\n
