About The Role
Our infrastructure as code library and platform team delivers an end-to-end, best-practices infrastructure on AWS in just days, all as a product. In this role, you’ll collaborate with other senior-level engineers to define the next generation of AWS and DevOps best practices, codify them for use by thousands of engineers, and design a next-level experience for implementing, operating and understanding them.
What You'll Work On
Build a better DevOps experience. We have a unique product that generates complete, multi-account AWS architectures for Terraform and Terragrunt in just a few hours using a collection of internal Golang tools. Help us take this to the next level by using that product to deliver prod architectures directly to customers, and then leveraging their feedback for improvements. Better yet, help us get to the point where the entire experience is completely automated or self-service.
Codify AWS and Terraform best practices. Customers look to Gruntwork to share the best way to launch on AWS. Discover AWS and Terraform best practices, and then codify them as repeatable patterns that Gruntwork customers can pull off the shelf.
Integrate with the Gruntwork platform. Integrate your product work with our company-wide platform, which consists of a REST API (Next.js/Typescript), a web-based single-page app (Next.js/React/Typescript, Tailwind), and a first-class CLI tool (Go).
Build out the Infrastructure as Code Library. Create and maintain reusable infrastructure modules for a variety of infrastructure (e.g., EKS, ECS, RDS, VPC, Lambda, EC2, S3, ElastiCache, etc.), using a variety of tools (e.g., Terraform, Go, Python, Bash, Docker, Packer, etc.) on AWS.

Compatible Time Zones
You'll be working with a team in the US time zones, so you can be located in almost any country as long as your time zone is no further west than Los Angeles (GMT-8/GMT-7) and no further east than New York (GMT-5/GMT-4). VPD is hiring a remote full-stack engineer to help develop and implement our groundbreaking cloud solution, contributing across all aspects of our app, its data, architecture and deployment.
We’re a well-funded scaleup (no VC money) with big plans to revolutionise legal pricing: our software aims to bring an end to law firms overcharging clients, arbitrary pricing, and other bad practices that have existed for years.
Our two directors are recognised world authorities in this domain, we are recognised suppliers to Thomson Reuters and Aderant Legal Software. We've successfully onboarded one of the world's largest legal teams and we're now busy preparing to deploy to some of the top 100 law firms in the UK and abroad.
Our app is powered by React, with Apollo Client for its GraphQL queries and mutations. It leverages Ant Design as the UI framework, upon which we build a mixture of UI components; some simple, some complex.
On the back-end, we're using PostgreSQL as our RDS, TypeORM as our ORM, TypeGraphQL to define the API schema, and Apollo Server to deliver the GraphQL.
Both our front and back ends are coded in TypeScript. We believe in end-to-end testing and have therefore used Playwright to handle an automated E2E test script which runs before deployments.
The work is varied, challenging, and we place equal emphasis on front and back-end; we need to deliver scheduled features, fix bugs, and respond to the needs of newly onboarded firms.

\nProvides technical support for all application delivery platforms including builds and continuous integration, routine application maintenance and upgrades, monitoring, troubleshooting and capacity planning, business continuity and disaster recovery.\n\nThe position is expected to spend approximately 50% time on Configuration Management, 30% on Java/HTML/CSS/SQL and/or test/script development and 20% on Linux System Administration. Duties may vary over time and project.\n\nThe DevOps Lead is primarily responsible for maintaining the application environments and configurations supporting reliable, secure and responsive application delivery and support to internal and external customers.\n\nThe DevOps Lead is a mid-to-senior position that requires expertise and experience in the following areas:\n\n\n* Configuration Management, managing and documenting hardware and software configurations across development and production environments to reliably and securely deliver applications to internal and external customers, in audited transaction environments, including maintaining a SOC2 attestation and often collaborating with internal, customer, partner, vendor and contracted resources. Build management and automation, assistance in troubleshooting build and automated testing failures.\n\n* Java/HTML5/CSS/SQL/Web Services application operations and development. Experience in Object Oriented development and web and application server administration support, including connections to other systems (e.g. web services, databases, monitors, etc.) is expected.\n\n* Linux system administration in a Windows- and Macintosh-client networked environment on a hybrid cloud built around Amazon Web Services and internal servers using Virtual Private Cloud solutions.
