We are a diverse and fully distributed team from around the world, working toward our shared vision to raise the standard of trust online.\n\nJoin us as a Director, Windows Engineer to help shape DuckDuckGo's products.\n\nAs part of our growing team, you will collaborate with team members at all levels to bring new products to market. Examples of projects you might work on include leading the development of consumer privacy applications on Windows. You will take direct responsibility of all aspects related to products built on Windows, build new features, drive improvements, and own product maintenance.\n\nWe are fully-remote and empower our team to be self-directed and self-motivated in their projects. If you'd thrive in that environment, and our core values resonate with you -- build trust, question assumptions, and validate direction -- you'll fit right in!\n\nWhat you will do:\n\n\n* Lead projects from proposal through postmortem, assessing vague problems, proposing high impact solutions, and executing them against a set of success criteria.\n\n* Lead development of consumer privacy applications on Windows, with moderate to low oversight.\n\n* Lead technical design and architecture discussions, and get buy-in among groups of opinionated stakeholders.\n\n* Advise members of the team in both functional and career growth.\n\n* Write pragmatic, performant, and testable C++ and C# code that works consistently across Windows devices.\n\n* Be a subject matter expert at the company in C++, C# and the Windows application development ecosystem.\n\n* Take privacy and user experience into consideration throughout the engineering process.\n\n\n\n\nWhat we are looking for:\n\n\n* Advanced level of C++ and C# expertise.\n\n* Advanced level of Windows application development architecture expertise (e.g. Win32 apps, WPF apps)\n\n* Experience leading at least one large consumer facing Windows desktop application, serving hundreds of thousands or millions of users.\n\n* Experience leading technical architecture decisions for complex products.\n\n* Deep understanding of MV* concepts.\n\n* Comfortable learning new languages and ideas.\n\n* Experience collaborating with engineers working on other platforms (e.g. macOS, Android, iOS)\n\n* Experience collaborating with product/design to build polished consumer facing products.\n\n* Exceptional project management skills.\n\n* Creative problem solvers and risk takers. You like to take initiative to push projects forward and know when to involve others.\n\n\n\n\nOther things to know:\n\n\n* While we leverage specific job titles for hiring purposes, we do not use them internally. Instead, we follow our own professional levels, with expectations for each level clearly defined across several dimensions.\n\n* We are a small, remote team distributed across time zones, and we rely on a variety of communication tools throughout the day. You should feel comfortable with the intricacies of this type of work situation.\n\n* Sometimes we meet up! Expect to travel at least two times a year: once for our all-hands meetup and again for a team retreat (each ~4-5 days).\n\n* We believe in a focused approach to collaboration, where individual team members work on a single top priority at a time, each supporting larger, company-wide objectives. This philosophy serves to impact our vision to raise the standard of trust online.\n\n* Our work philosophy centers on empowered project management. All team members have opportunities to run projects.\n\n* Transparency supports individual and team success at DuckDuckGo. We encourage everyone to participate in areas of interest throughout the company. Anyone and everyone can (and should) ask questions and offer feedback about our products and internal projects.\n\n* We strive to exemplify our values (build trust, question assumptions, and validate direction) in everything we do.\n\n* While this is a full-time job, we offer a flexible work arrangement with no core hours, expecting an average commitment of 40 hours per week.\n\n* We support professional development of our team members through career advisory and a learning stipend, reinforcing our culture of growth and skill-building.\n\n\n\n\nDuckDuckGo does not work with any recruiting agencies or services. Instead, we work with each candidate one-on-one throughout a unique hiring process that we've built to reflect our company culture.\n\nDuckDuckGo provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment, and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.\n\nIf you think you might thrive in this environment, we would love to hear from you. Use the application to apply!\n\nPlease note that:\n\n\n* A successful candidate will be subject to a background check.\n\n* By applying for this role, you confirm that information submitted is accurate and that you understand falsification is cause for denial of employment or termination.\n\n\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n

\nABOUT YOU\n\nYou’ve been developing web-based applications using C#, preferably hosted in Azure, and love elegant design. The problem-solving aspect of software development excites you every day. You’ve been wanting to join a FinTech startup, but have been put off by the restrictions of location and working practices. You long to apply your hard-won skills to one of the fastest-growing, cutting edge areas of tech in the UK. You just haven’t found the right company - yet.\n\nIdeally, you have been developing cloud-based applications for long enough that you no longer think in terms of racks and conserving resources. You are comfortable with the complete cloud-based ADLC and have experience in utilising many of Azure’s PaaS and IaaS features.\n\nYou've had real-world experience of a front-end MVVM framework (e.g. Angular, React, Knockout etc) and have previously worked with designers.\n\nYou’ve successfully tackled complex, unfamiliar domains in cross-functional teams. You are comfortable communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.\n\nWHY WORK WITH US?\n\nYou’ll be joining a hand-picked team, all brilliant in their respective fields.\n\nYou’ll be stretched and tested within a supportive team environment.\n\nYou can create a genuine work/life balance. You will be required to get together regularly with other team members, but you won’t have a daily commute. We’re a modern company with modern working practices. You just need to take pride in and ownership of your work and deliver what's needed.\n\nThe successful applicant will gain real-world experience of Microsoft's evolving cloud platform - Azure.\n\nFinTech is booming and we will be at the forefront.\n\nA PEEK AT OUR TECH STACK & TOOLS\n\n\n* Azure\n\n\n* Websites\n\n* Computes\n\n* Tables, Blobs & Queues\n\n* SQL Server\n\n* B2C AAD\n\n* Key Vault\n\n* Azure Data Factories\n\n\n\n\n\n* Asp.Net 5 (MVC 6 & WebApi)\n\n* C# 6\n\n* Visual Studio 2015\n\n* Visual Studio Online\n\n* HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap, AngularJS\n\n\n\n\nWHAT YOU'LL DO\n\nYou’ll be working in a small team with our CTO building the public and private systems to support our FinTech services. These will be cloud-based and capable of supporting thousands of customers and millions of transactions. To do this, you’ll have access to the latest software and hardware.\n\nYou’ll have mutual responsibility for all aspects of the development lifecycle from spec through to build, test and deploy. You’ll meet regularly with both technical and non-technical co-workers, but you’ll mostly get to choose from where you work.\n\nThe code you produce will be fast, efficient and robust and readable.\n\nWHAT YOU'LL GET\n\n\n* Competitive salary\n\n* Performance-related stock options\n\n* The hardware and software you need to deliver first class results\n\n* Genuine flexible & remote working arrangements\n\n* Preferential rates with our product\n\n\n\n\nLOCATION\n\nThe majority of your time will be spent working remotely. However, you will have face-to-face meetings in our London Victoria offices regularly. Initially this will be once a week whilst we get to know each other.
