Join Planet and be a part of our mission to change the way people see the world.\n\nPlanet is a global company with employees working remotely world wide and joining us from offices in San Francisco, Washington DC, Germany, and The Netherlands.\n\nAbout the Role: \n\nThe Mechanical Engineering team at Planet is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to help drive the design of key spacecraft subsystems across Planetโs fleet of Earth-imaging satellites! Your mission will be to champion our spacecraft design efforts, from the subsystem level, all the way up to the top-level spacecraft. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned mechanical designer who has led mechanical engineering efforts across multiple programs from conceptual design through to flight. As a member of the Mechanical Engineering team within Planetโs Space Systems division, you will be a key contributor and stakeholder in Planetโs agile aerospace approach to spacecraft design, and will work hand-in-glove with structural analysis, thermal engineering, and reliability & qualification, as well as the rest of Planetโs leading-edge spacecraft design and manufacturing teams. \n\nImpact Youโll Own:\n\n\nOwn the mechanical design and architecture on key spacecraft subsystems across Planetโs satellite fleet\n\nDrive documentation and presentation of new designs throughout design process, e.g. across design review gates\n\nCollaborate with structural analysis team to drive / perform analyses on key spacecraft subsystems to meet stiffness and strength requirements\n\nDrive part / assembly tolerancing using GD&T, and own release of drawing packages for part fabrication\n\nDrive part / assembly design and fabrication at key subsystem vendors\n\nCollaborate with manufacturing team to implement key spacecraft design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) features\n\nSupport ICD development and release of key interfaces\n\nSupport test planning and qualification test campaigns\n\nSupport debugging and root-causing on-orbit anomalies\n\nBe hands on with flight and test hardware. We like engineers who get their hands dirty.\n\n\n\n\nWhat You Bring:\n\n\n5+ years experience owning products from requirements, thru conceptual design, and into test and manufacturing\n\nExpertise in computer-aided design (CAD) software and Product Lifecycle Management software.
