We have built a good team and process internally to be able to tackle this problem, and are looking for engineers who welcome such challenges. Very often, we have to review the API documents and codes written by another partner and then integrate into them. This requires regular communication with the partners as well. With most of our partners, we have a Slack channel setup for regular communication.\n\nIntegrating two different absolutely independent systems is what we do, and that is the core value we provide to our customers. Engineering is only a part of the difficulty. The other part surfaces after the technical integration is done and the operations team takes over. We look towards our engineers to do the technical integration and documentation in a way that makes the operational tasks easier.\n\nWe have been a remote company since day one, so we understand and know how to work with remote employees. We have a very communicative and collaborative culture between engineers as well as non-engineers. I am non technical founder of this company, and have worked with engineers directly for over 7 years. \n\nWe are looking for experienced engineers who can work in a startup. Startup is not a job, it is a mindset. This company was built from scratch 3 years ago, and our CTO, who built this entire code, is still very much with us. New joinees should be able to understand that the code built is not perfect, but we process over 3 million transactions a month, so it works and works well. We are looking for engineers who can work with the current team members, build credibility by delivering good quality code and then also recommend changes in the system - slowly and gradually. We understand our code may not be perfect but we are a company that has just grown out of survival mode and are now looking towards medium term goals, not just short term objectives.\n\nWe also have various different tasks going on in the company, which includes new integrations, new product development, developing tools for our internal users. So based on interest and capabilities, the engineers can move between departments. \n\nWe require engineers to work during the US time zone (New York). \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to Senior, Engineer, Backend, Full Stack and API jobs that are similar:\n\n $70,000 — $120,000/year\n

\nFull Stack JavaScript Software Engineer\n\nWhy IDS?\n\nToday’s virtual training environments are segmented and simplistic—the opposite of the real-world’s complex and integrated cyber battlefield. When even the most subtle input can influence every other facet of an operation, the one-dimensional training provided to our armed forces is not only outdated, it flat-out fails to equip them to outpace the operational tempo of the rapidly-evolving multi-domain battlefield. In the virtual arena, new threats emerge every day. IDS provides the tools for warfighters and cyber operators not just to prepare for them, but to anticipate the risks and to be ready for them when they arrive.\n\nSocial Media Environment and Internet Replication (SMEIR™), a product of IDS International Government Services, is a digital training solution that provides a full-range, free-play, immersive, realistic and scalable operational practice environment in which warfighters simultaneously train on full-spectrum cyberspace operations and social media analytics during integrated and multi-dimensional exercises.\n\nIDS International is seeking a Mid to Senior level Full Stack JavaScript Software Engineer to join our growing team and build out the next generation of our internet simulation platform, called SMEIR. The Software Engineer will replicate various websites and social media platforms that will be used for cyber-training exercises. IDSI’s engineering team uses a modified Scrum/Agile process. Candidate must be at ease working in an agile environment with little supervision. IDSI uses Slack, Jira and Git for project and software management. Our main office is in Arlington, VA with remote opportunities available for the right candidate.   \n\nResponsibilities:\n\n\n* Use software development languages including Javascript, Node.js, SQL and tools to write, edit, maintain, and test computer software as part of a synthetic cyberspace training environment.\n\n* Follow the software development lifecycle (SDLC) to plan, design, build, test, and deploy software applications, ranging from websites and mobile applications to web applications, video games, and back end API architecture.\n\n* In addition to creating new software, improve and maintain the working order of existing software.\n\n\n\n\nRequired Qualifications:\n\n\n* Minimum 3 years professional experience with:\n\n\n* JavaScript (ECMA)\n\n* Node.js\n\n* HTML5/CSS3\n\n* Building and using RESTful APIs\n\n* Git\n\n* Familiarity with Microservice Architecture.\n\n\n\n\n\n* Minimum of 5 years of professional, related experience.\n\n\n\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\n\n\n* Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.\n\n* Experience with:\n\n\n* Meteor.js\n\n* MongoDB\n\n* React.js\n\n* Docker\n\n* Kubernetes\n\n\n\n\n\n* Experience with Scrum/Agile development methodologies.\n\n* Dev/Ops Experience with Linux, BASH, Python.\n\n\n\n\nIDS’s competitive benefit package starts you off out on the right foot. Eligibility begins day one.\n\n\n* Health and Well-being - 100% of employee medical and other insurance premiums are paid by IDS.\n\n* Financial Future – 401(k) with an industry leading match and no waiting period. You are fully vested in all contributions from the start.\n\n* Paid Leave - Generous time off accruals for you to take paid leave, totaling five weeks.\n\n* Professional Development – networking opportunities, informal mentoring, education reimbursement and access to thousands of online professional development resources.\n\n* Casual, fun, and supportive work environment with all the tools and amenities you need to thrive.\n\n\n\n\nMust be an effective communicator both verbally and in writing. Most positions require ability to work on a desktop or laptop computer for extended periods of time. Computer activities include reading, reviewing and analyzing information, as well as providing recommendations, summaries, and reports in written or verbal format. Additionally, positions require ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods; use hand(s) to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; as well as speak and hear.\n\nEmployee may be required to occasionally lift and/or move moderate amounts of weight, typically less than 20 pounds. Regular and predictable attendance is essential.\n\nQualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability or protected veteran status, and any other characteristic protected by federal, state, and local law.\n\nIf you are unable to apply through the portal and need to speak to someone about necessary accommodations to apply, please email [email protected] and we will follow up with you. Do not submit resumes and applications through this email. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n No salary data published by company so we estimated salary based on similar jobs related to JavaScript, Full Stack, Developer, Digital Nomad, Jira, Video, Education, Git, API, Mobile, Senior, Medical and Engineer jobs that are similar:\n\n $70,000 — $120,000/year\n

\nWe are looking for an engineer with a “find a way or make a way” attitude that is excited to join a small but growing team that has more projects than developers.  This opportunity is for someone excited for autonomy, ownership, and breadth of responsibility.\n\nOur environment is typical of a start-up:\n\n\n* We work in small teams, fast-paced, we all get a lot done by everyone wearing many hats.\n\n* We are serious about optimizing our time and staying focused on the most important goals and outcomes.\n\n* We are a remote team and are completely on board with 100% remote work, meaning we focus on over-communication to ensure we can stay in sync despite our physical distance.\n\n* We coordinate using a kanban board, hold a daily standup, and mostly communicate via ad hoc video calls and Slack.\n\n* We’re building lots of new things, but also maintaining a significant business.  We are mindful of the balance and need to monitor and pay down tech debt and also innovate with exciting greenfield projects.\n\n\n\n\nTech stack.\n\n\n* Our retail application is a frontend-heavy PWA written in NodeJS and React, containerized via Docker, and Deployed via Kubernetes. We also make heavy use of Parse Server, which provides an API to the MongoDB via REST and GraphQL endpoints.\n\n\n\n\nBuild something challenging.\n\nThis isn't just another CRUD application. Your challenge will be to deliver a highly-available service with complex business logic being used by hundreds of businesses 24/7 to keep their operations running.  Our entity model is vast and a major part of our domain is synchronizing data with third party traceability systems. Explore the limits of your resourcefulness by designing human and automated systems that deliver consistent performance, reliability and scale whilst working with less-than-ideal third-party requirements and systems.\n\nSee if you fit our requirements.\n\nFor this role, we are looking for someone with the following characteristics:\n\n\n* 5-10 years experience working in back-end applications\n\n* 5-10 years experience working with front-end applications\n\n* Deep Familiarity with Node JS and Express\n\n* Familiarity with GraphQL\n\n* Familiarity with Docker and containerized orchestration in a cloud environment. Bonus for experience with Kubernetes and Google Cloud (Google Kubernetes Engine). \n\n* Familiarity with PWA best practices\n\n* Familiarity with ES6 & ReactJS\n\n* Bonus for experience working in a fast paced / high-expectations startup environment\n\n* Ability to acutely focus on company objectives and mission at hand.\n\n* Proven dedication to creating maintainable, functional, and reliable systems.\n\n* Ability to pass a background check; have appropriate work authorization\n\n* Extremely articulate communicator in all virtual mediums.\n\n* An eye for design, detail, and user experience\n\n* Familiarity with GIT branching models, CI pipelines, and related workflows.\n\n\n\n\nYour Mission & Responsibilities:\n\n\n* Architect, plan and build new features, ranging from discussing wireframes to creating the data model to architecting deployment processes.\n\n* Contribute to maintaining and building out robustness of our Core implementation.\n\n* Contribute to our engineering culture by designing and developing with intention as well as our focus on continuous improvement.\n\n* Advise, mentor and lead other full time engineers and contractors on projects, small to large, from start to finish.\n\n* Technical Planning (Spec writing etc.)\n\n* Technical Estimation & Delegation\n\n* Team Evaluation / Process (Retros, grooming, velocity management etc.)\n\n* Implementing company technical initiatives (Jira, GQL, Apollo, Sentry error policies)\n\n* Accountability for team & product performance\n\n* Contributing to technical & product direction\n\n* Ensuring high availability of retail services for our customers\n\n* Assist with deployments and infrastructure architecture/orchestration.\n\n\n\n\n\nTo achieve our mission, we always look for high-caliber people who share our core values:\n\n\n* Value-Driven: Above all else, we are concerned with driving value to customers and partners through over-delivering on the benefits we’ve promised them. \n\n\n\n* Grit: We are resilient marathoners who finish what they start and love tackling problems of all sizes. We take critical feedback and push through to get the job done. \n\n\n\n* Rigor: We are data driven, analytical and exhaustive in decision making. We take in the evidence, integrate information from multiple sources quickly, draw conclusions and take actions - quickly.\n\n\n\n* Collaboration: We leave our egos at home, we challenge each other and we work together to find the best solutions, every day, day in and day out. \n\n\n\n* Accountability: We sign up for the hard stuff and take ownership to see it through. We make lemonade out of lemons when we have to and don’t let attitude get in the way of getting it done.\n\n\n\n* Curiosity:  Most of us dork out over non-work related topics at a ridiculous level of detail, because that’s how we’re wired. We stay tightly in step with the needs of our customers - researchers and librarians - to help them browse, read, discover, and organize scholarly information.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nYou will contribute to our existing BrowZine Content Management System, written in Node.js and Postgres, and used by our internal operations team to manage large amounts of data from our hundreds of library customers. \n\nYou will help shape and build our API, also written in Node.js, which powers our BrowZine clients, available at browzine.com and as native apps on iOS and Android. Additionally, our third-party API is starting to be used by a variety of libraries directly to enhance other services at libraries.\n\nYou will help scale our Heroku/AWS cloud-based systems as our customer base continues to grow to ensure solid performance for all users, including managing user data stored in CouchDB.\n\nThere is also opportunity to help improve our web front-end app, browzine.com, which is built using Ember.js.  Between improving the API and improving our front-end app, you will build new features and enhance existing ones to improve journal reading for academic librarians and researchers at hundreds of research institutions around the world.\n\nCheck out our entire stack at StackShare.  The technologies you'll likely work the most with are:\n\n\n* NodeJS\n\n* Postgres\n\n* RabbitMQ\n\n* AWS\n\n* Ember.JS\n\n\n\n\nWhat We're Looking For:\n\nA passion for automated testing, continuous integration, and constantly improving how you do things is important to us, as well as experience with Javascript on the server and a desire to keep up with new JavaScript developments as they come out (ES2017/2018 and beyond).\n\nStrong communication skills are absolutely critical on our team, since we are a remote-first team, timely responses and clear communication is essential.\n\nExperience writing test-focused code is important to all of our teammates.  We rely on acceptance-level and lower unit-level automated tests to reduce the likelihood of regressions, and we have a pretty thorough suite of them.\n\nA high comfort level with source control - especially git - is important for our team. \n\nBeing a self-motivated developer who can work independently is important for remote work in general, and on our team.\n\nAnd a strong desire to learn new technologies is something our teammates share. We want to embrace the tools and techniques that help us build great software and let us sleep soundly at night, knowing our users are having a delightful experience and our servers are not catching fire.\n\nTo apply, email [email protected] or apply on Stack Overflow, and please include anything that helps demonstrate your development abilities, such as a GitHub or Bitbucket profile, sample code you can share, articles or tutorials you have written, presentations you have given, Stack Overflow contributions, bug reports on open source projects, or anything else you can share that is indicative of how you best contribute to a team\n\nAbout Third Iron\n\nThird Iron, founded in 2011 as a remote-first software development company, creates innovative library technologies to help academic libraries and the researchers they support. BrowZine, our flagship service, is used by hundreds of universities, hospitals, corporations and government facilities around the world.  Third Iron is a Minnesota, USA, company, but our software development team is distributed throughout the USA. \nWho you are\n\nWe are looking for talented & creative engineers to join our growing team, and help us build great products.\n\n\n* You have 3-5 years of experience as a mid to senior level engineer\n\n* You're used to working with Rails & Ruby and you have advanced experience building RESTful web services & APIs\n\n* You have experience working with a variety of languages, with a strong grasp of their pros & cons\n\n* You're a kind & respectful person, invested in contributing to a wonderful team culture (bullies & big egos strictly not allowed)\n\n* You are occasionally enthusiastic to the point of being profoundly uncool\n\n* You get insanely excited by at least 1 thing that has absolutely nothing to do with computers\n\n\n\n\nSome other things that would be really nice to have ... \n\n\n* Strong front-end development skills\n\n* Experience designing service-oriented architecture\n\n* Web operations or system administration experience\n\n\n\n\nWhat we build\n\nWe are organized into small cross-functional product teams (a PM, a designer, a few devs) that focus on growing a single product from glimmer to gamechanger. Each team is free to determine their own tools & process. What are these teams working on?\n\n\n* Data & systems that support our global campus business - https://generalassemb.ly/locations\n\n* Evolving large applications into an ecosystem of microservices\n\n* Innovative online education experiences for consumer & enterprise users - https://generalassemb.ly/education/web-design-circuit\n\n* Platforms to connect our community of students & alumni - http://profiles.ga.co\n\n* Internal tools supporting every part of our organization \n\n\n\n\nWhat it's like to be on the team\n\n\n* We use GitHub for code review, Code Climate and Semaphore to keep entropy at bay, and Heroku to focus on building things\n\n* We favor trying new things over fear of mistakes\n\n* We are anti-dogmatic: use whatever code editor you like, pair-program when you like\n\n* We try to seek a balance between sticking with what works and fearlessly exploring the new\n\n* We are always learning, always teaching\n\n* We are passionate about writing good code\n\n* We apologize for and learn from our mistakes\n\n* We have worked hard to build a culture of trust, continual improvement, and mutual support\n\n\n\n\nWe <3 remotes!\n\nEven though GA is headquartered in New York City, more than half of our engineering team is not. We remote in from little towns and big cities from California to the Netherlands. And even our New York devs spend the odd day (or month) working from home or elsewhere.\n\nWe are serious about making remote collaboration work, with tools like Slack, Skype, and Screenhero becoming a big part of our daily lives.\n\nFour times a year, we fly the whole engineering team to New York for a few days of workshops, lightning talks, urban adventures, and an epic hackathon.\n\nBenefits\n\nPosition is full-time with competitive salary, stock options and great benefits.
