To continue our growth we’re seeking a Senior Backend Engineer located in London or Auckland. With your strong production experience of Python and ETL processes, you’ll play a key role in our data extraction, transformation pipelines, data storage (MongoDB), and data delivery via AWS API Gateway (Rest APIs) and AWS AppSync (GraphQL). You’ll need a deep understanding and experience with serverless AWS (Lamba with EventBridge), and knowledge of the serverless framework (https://www.serverless.com/) would be a significant benefit.

This role is development focused, with a small amount of coaching required for junior team members.

How We Work at Basket

At Basket, we work in 2 week development cycles with a clearly defined goal. We’re inspired by companies like Linear where quality work is more important than quantity of features released. We plan each cycle well ahead of time with team discussions, research and workshops to make sure we’re making informed decisions.

Here’s how our typical cycle looks;

• 2 weeks before a cycle we plan and define requirements for features

• 1 week before a cycle we do technical due diligence and write acceptance criteria

• During a cycle we write code using test-driven development, test code to development and staging environments, collaborate with QA, Design and PM team members to ensure features are production ready.

What You'll Do

• Write, improve and maintain serverless functions to accurately transform and load data into efficient and organised MongoDB storage

• Develop and maintain 3rd party data clients to enrich stored data

• Create and update API endpoints for a frontend client using AWS API Gateway (Rest APIs) and AWS AppSync (GraphQL)

• Analyse and tune application performance with a focus on efficiency using analytics tools such as Lumigo, Sentry, Segment and DataDog

• Research and architect solutions using serverless architecture patterns

• Implement and improve analytics and application monitoring performance

• Approach your work using test driven development (TDD) to ensure the integrity of your code and our services

About You

• Native English (this is essential)

• Located in London, UK or Auckland, NZ

• 5+ years full-time work experience as a backend engineer on production services

• Advanced knowledge of Python ^3.10 and/or NodeJS ^15.0.0

• Deep knowledge of webpage parsing, including XPath and Regex

• Excellent experience with MongoDB and DynamoDB

• Production experience with AWS services in a serverless microservices context, such as Lambda, AppSync, API Gateway, S3, SNS, SQS, Cognito, EventBridge

• Lots of energy and enthusiasm about being part of a small, progressive team

Good To Have

• University degree in computer science, or equivalent experience

• Experience working in a VC-backed startup environment

1) Full-Stack PHP positions with an emphasis on the backend. Ideally, you will have a strong background working with PHP, but strong programmers with great problem-solving skills and other relevant experience may also be considered.

Requirements (Full Stack)

• • Strong understanding of HTML and CSS (bonus points for Sass)
  • Experience with LAMP-powered environments (Linux CLI commands a plus)
  • Good understanding of PHP
  • Familiarity with custom WordPress theming (no page builders) and plugin architecture (seasoned experience a plus)
  • Good understanding of SQL with the ability to write queries
  • Good knowledge of Javascript/jQuery (modern frameworks like Vue, Angular, React is a plus)
  • Experience working with Node tooling (Webpack, etc)
  • Experience with Git (Bitbucket a plus)
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and/or solo
  • A solid history of work product
  • Use of the word phenomenal in your cover letter
  • A strong work ethic including creativity, integrity, accountability, and passion
  • Ability to follow process/instruction, and also bring ideas and suggestions to the table often to drive constant process improvements

  Skills and Experience we’re looking for that are a bonus to have (but not required):

  • Apache server configuration/management
  • Experience working with DNS
  • Requirement documentation writing and software scoping processes experience
  • Experience giving accurate estimates for deliverables based on provided requirements
  • High-level usability/accessibility knowledge and understanding
  • Web marketing domain knowledge - Google Analytics etc (helps to interface with the Marketing Team)
  • Ecommerce specific experience
  • Experience working with, fixing bugs in, modifying, and extending existing/legacy code
  • SSL/TLS experience

Requirements (Front End)

We need your capabilities and knowledge to include:

• Able to hand-code and troubleshoot HTML, CSS, and jQuery
• Able to turn a Figma comp into a fully-functioning website template
• Experienced building on WordPress and with WooCommerce
• Someone who pays attention to details and owns mistakes
• A hard worker, who likes to have fun and has a great attitude to bring to our team
