Onko Health is hiring a remote full-stack engineer for our cancer support platform, becoming technical lead for our all-new team.
We’re a healthtech scaleup company. Our app blends remote support and coaching from expert oncology practitioners with self-help approaches, backed by a data handling platform. With guidance from our Head of Engineering you'll help define, design and build the evolution of our clinician-facing web application, the platform, and integration with our patient-facing mobile app, as well as influencing our culture and methods.
Because of the need to deliver scheduled features, fix bugs, and respond to the needs of newly onboarded customers, we’re looking for someone who is comfortable working with users, and offshore colleagues while we form a new team, and who still relishes lots of hands-on work.
We place equal emphasis on front and back-end, being particularly mindful of quality, resilience, and data security. Your personal coding focus may be oriented towards the back-end, or across whole stack, we can be flexible.
Once up to speed, your remit may include aspects such as
With HoE, co-owning the architecture and code base of our web application and back-end
Helping set the technical direction and writing clean, robust code to provide a secure, scalable and reliable platform
Exploring algorithmic methods in data science, for improved health and care outcomes
Working with our VHoE on roadmap, deliverables and hiring aims
Collaborating with our with our multidisciplinary team to take product features from concept to delivery, integrated with our mobile app
Keeping up to date with trends in software development, technology and healthtech
Upholding compliance, regulation, data and accessibility requirements
Mentoring junior staff, imparting best practices
Third line support, troubleshooting and root cause analysis
Establishing CI/CD pipelines, and shaping a DevOps approach
Evolving our development culture, methods and tooling
Automating tests and upholding quality
We're looking for
Someone with broad full-stack engineering abilities
Excellent technical understanding of software engineering and data security principles
Comfortable with architecting web applications - or ready to grow into this
Technology agnostic and adept with Node.js, plus familiarity with a modern JS framework (we're currently using Angular) and/or TypeScript
Optionally, a good understanding of front-end technologies such as HTML5 and CSS3
Skilled in API development
Appreciation for documentation, quality and best practice
Experience with Git/GitHub, and running CI/CD pipelines
Good technical familiarity with AWS Cloud services
Competent with SQL and MySQL/similar admin
A pragmatic application of Agile (both Scrum & Kanban) methodologies

Within OCHA, the Assessment, Planning and Monitoring Branch (APMB) is responsible for helping OCHA’s network of country offices and humanitarian partners implement the humanitarian programme cycle (HPC). This includes data management applications for project submission and review, monitoring and evaluation of humanitarian response, and financial tracking, amongst others. The successful candidate will report to the Information Systems Officer, Monitoring Platforms and Tools Section (MATS), in Geneva and work collaboratively with colleagues in OCHA Headquarters locations, as well as other developers working on this and other OCHA projects.\n\nFunctional Responsibilities\n\n\n* Design, implement and manage solutions for web applications including system architecture, database models and coding standards\n\n* Develop, iteratively improve and maintain existing and new HPC applications using AngularJS (1.5 and above), Angular (7 and above), React, Node.js, PostgreSQL, Docker,Solr and TypeScript\n\n* Discuss and improve specifications in conjunction with the project manager and business owners\n\n* Contribute to Agile sprint and release planning\n\n* Review code submitted by team members using the Git workflow model\n\n* Develop and review unit tests\n\n* Work closely with the OCHA-wide infrastructure team for code deployments, troubleshooting and other related issues.\n\n* Develop and review technical documentation for developers and application administrators to support and maintain the system\n\n* Contribute to the wider OCHA software development effort, including participation in regular knowledge interchange, joint events etc.\n\n* Assist with data migrations as needed\n\n\n\n\nEducation/Experience/Language requirements\n\nAdvanced-level university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in computer science, software engineering, information systems, mathematics, statistics or related field.\n\nA first-level university degree in combination with additional two years, a technical/professional diploma with additional four years, or a secondary school diploma with additional six years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced-level university degree.\n\nRequired Experience\n\n\n* At least 2 years of relevant experience is required of online database application development and implementation.\n\n* Minimum of 2 years functional programming in JavaScript and libraries on dynamic interactive websites.\n\n* Minimum of 2 years’ experience of developing on a Linux environment.\n\n* Demonstrated experience in web development projects in a consulting or professional services environment, working with cross-functional teams.\n\n* Experience in development of web applications using RESTful API backends\n\n* Experience of code versioning using Git workflow and sprint/release planning\n\n* Experience working both independently and in collaboration with remote, geographically diverse teams - must be very comfortable working via e-mail, chat, IRC, audio/video conference etc.\n\n\n\n\nDesirable Experience\n\n\n* The successful candidate will also have experience in as many as possible of:\n\n* Developing with AngularJS (v1.5 and later) orAngular (v7 and later)\n\n* Developing with React\n\n* Developing with TypeScript\n\n* Developing web applications or APIs with Node.js and Express or Restify\n\n* Developing with monorepo managers such as Nx, Rush.js or yarn workspaces.\n\n* Publishing packages to NPM, adhering to Semantic Versioning\n\n* Creating and running Docker images and containers\n\n* Developing with SQL-based open-source databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL\n\n* Use of Sequelize or similar ORM\n\n* CSS and use of pre-processors such as SASS or LESS, or libraries like styled-components\n\n* Management of dependencies, code deployment to various environments and development workflow.\n\n* Working on projects using an agile workflow\n\n* Experience of developing web applications in other programming languages would be beneficial.\n\n* Some knowledge of Drupal-based websites, particularly regarding integration of database applications with Drupal front-ends, and website development in PHP would be an asset.\n\n* Some experience working with the public or not-for-profit sector would be an asset.\n\n\n\n\nLanguages\n\n\n* Intermediate or fluent knowledge of English is required.\n\n* Knowledge of another UN language (Spanish, Arabic, Russian, Chinese and French) is an asset.\n\n\n\n\nOther considerations\n\n\n* As this is a home-based role, the successful candidate will need to provide their own workspace, including high-speed internet connection and a local development environment running on Linux or MacOS.\n\n\n\n\nContract type, level and duration\n\n\n* Contract type: INternational Individual Contractor Agreement\n\n* Contract level: IICA-1/ICSC-9\n\n* Contract duration: full-time for an initial period of three months, to be extended depending on satisfactory performance evaluation.\n\n\n\n\nFull information at https://jobs.unops.org/pages/viewvacancy/VADetails.aspx?id=20210#4 \n\n#Salary and compensation\n
