\nAbout this role\n\nFaireโs Risk team is seeking a highly motivated Underwriting Analyst to help us empower small businesses by providing them with credit limits that enable them to grow. The underwriters at Faire conduct due diligence and credit risk analysis to determine appropriate credit limit amounts for retailers.\n\nWhat youโll do \n\n\n* Evaluate creditworthiness of retail businesses and adjust credit limits based on a review of the businessโs credit application, banking data, payment performance on Faire, and publicly available information \n\n* Perform due diligence on businesses to prevent fraud \n\n* Propose and implement improvements to risk management policies, procedures, and tools\n\n* Identify issues and gaps, and develop data-driven recommendations to enhance our underwriting operations\n\n* Work cross-functionally with teams such as Data Science, Engineering, and Product in order to drive product improvements, new feature releases, and efficiency improvements \n\n* Work with Sales and Support teams to streamline communication, improve efficiencies, and provide a world-class customer experience\n\n\n\n\nQualifications\n\n\n* 3-6 years of experience in financial services, tech, or related industry, with minimum 1+ years of experience in small business commercial credit underwriting\n\n* Experienced in conducting comprehensive analysis of business banking data and financial statements to evaluate revenue, liquidity, leverage, and cash flow trends\n\n* Ability to spot patterns from discrete and vague data points (e.g. social media, financial data, Faire transactional data)\n\n* Strong critical thinking, analytical, and financial evaluation skills\n\n* The capacity to make complex decisions under pressure in a fast-paced setting\n\n* Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact with customers in a clear and concise manner, primarily via email and phone\n\n* Strong customer focus and the ability to balance Risk mitigation alongside a positive customer experience\n\n* Passionate, relentless resourcefulness and the ability to thrive at a fast-paced startup -- youโre willing to do what needs to be done for the success of your team and you are comfortable with change\n\n\n\n\nGreat to Haves\n\n\n* Experience underwriting small business loans at a fintech/online lender \n\n* Data analysis skills and proficiency in SQL\n\n* Experience analyzing tax returns and financial statements\n\n* Basic knowledge of financial risk modeling and experience working with Data Science teams\n\n\n\n\nSalary Range\n\nCanada: the pay range for this role is $72,000 - $99,000 per year. \n\nThis role will also be eligible for equity and benefits. Actual base pay will be determined based on permissible factors such as transferable skills, work experience, market demands, and primary work location.
