Who are we looking for

We’re looking for an experienced Python developer who loves to build innovative and high-quality products. As part of a senior and highly committed team you will use Python’s latest patterns and libraries such as FastAPI to build core backend services for our products. You will come into contact with infrastructure such as Kafka and Kubernetes, expose your services as OpenAPI 3.0 services, and you will work in an environment where quality comes first enforced by automated continuous deployment procedures. Consumers of your services are both mobile apps and web apps managed by InvestSuite as well as 3rd party services and applications. The first consumer using your service will be a Javascript-based console (written in React) for wealth managers to manage and improve their customer’s investment portfolios. For now we are only able to hire people who live in Europe.

• Deploy applications that meet our customer’s highest demands in terms of performance, availability and security
• Design and implement clean and scalable public and internal APIs
• Take full responsibility for certain identified backend support components

Required skills & experience

• Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar field - or equivalent professional experience
• At least 4 years of Python experience (not counting education)
• Knowledge about / experience with:
  • FastAPI
  • Pydantic
  • pre-commit (the Python tool, not the git hook)
  • type annotations in Python including checks with mypy
  • difference between pyproject.toml and setup.cfg
• English fluency - spoken & written
• Proactivity & problem solving skills. Proactive in solving risks and issues in a timely manner, or to re-prioritize on close collaboration with the product owner if required
• Experience with agile project approaches (Scrum)

Other skills & experience we would love to see

• Knowledge & experience with reactive architecture, microservices and containerization technologies such as Docker
• Expertise in writing unit tests and end to end platform integration tests
• Experience with automated build, test and deploy pipelines
• Knowledge of cloud and serverless architectures as well as infrastructure as code
• Passion for technologies for distributed messaging such as Kafka, Akka
• Affinity with financial markets and wealth management

Salary and compensation

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a key role in reinventing our core Internet Service platform and have influence on our development processes and tools. You’ll be part of a fast growing and highly collaborative team. 

Ideally, you have notable experience developing software and are good at using languages like Python to implement features in distributed systems. You are comfortable working at scale on dozens of interdependent components across multiple environments. You are open to giving and receiving feedback, participating in code reviews and design discussions. In addition to the above, you are forward-thinking and able to remain effective when priorities shift.

What you’ll be doing:

In the first 30 days:

• Gain deep understanding of our business and technology stack
• Design and implement features of growing complexity and ensure quality through writing automated tests

In the first 3 months:

• Contribute to technical design and architecture discussions
• Participate in code reviews and ensure that development standards are adhered to
• Support various integration and migration efforts

In the first year:

• Share knowledge and act as a trusted mentor to junior team members.
• Own projects or features from conception to release
• Balance the need to ship code quickly with the need to make sound technical decisions.

Key skills and experience:

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent work experience
• Experience building microservices in Python
• Experience with Continuous Integration concepts and tools
• Experience delivering highly available and reliable systems
• Strong system design and architecture skills
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written
• May be required to be part of an on-call rotation

Nice to have:

• Experience building integrations with 3rd party systems
• Familiarity with event driven architecture and technologies like Kafka
• Familiarity with container technologies like Docker, Nomad or Kubernetes
• Experience working in an agile environment
• Exposure to multiple programming languages
• Knowledge of fiber networks a plus
