**Radical candor? More like radical gander, right?**\n\nOk, enough goose puns for the moment, but now that weโve got your attention, allow us to tell you more about this company called GooseChase and why might you want to join us!\n\nYou love an app that makes you smile, right? Well our product is a lot of fun. And even though our origins are that of a humble scavenger hunt app, weโve now evolved (hatched?) into a super-flexible platform used by millions to create all sorts of experiences! Itโs all the best parts of a scavenger hunt, with a delightful twist to keep you coming back for more.\n\nWith all that fun and flexibility, weโve been growing like crazy. For teachers in the classroom, weโre the new โTV cartโ, aka the learning tool that students legitimately look forward to. For todayโs workplaces, virtual or otherwise, we help the team connect with each other to the point where they want to come into (or logon) to work. And for local cities and towns, we bring families together in a way that truly builds a sense of community.\n\nBut weโre also unique in that we donโt have any investors and, as a result, are able to put our people before profit. Seriously. We have a profit sharing program specifically for this reason! It also means we grow at the pace we want to and put the time into making this the best possible place to work. When we do something, itโs because itโs the best thing for our team and our customers, no matter what. Weโve actually been fully remote from the very beginning, because we wanted our people to have the flexibility to live wherever and however they wanted!\n\n**So what exactly is this job?**\n\nIf youโre looking for impact & ownership, this is about as good as it gets. Youโll have the opportunity to take lead on our back-end tech stack going forward, charting our technical path, contributing to our product direction and helping shape the team as we grow!\n\nFrom a day to day perspective, youโll be a core member of our cross-functional product development team, focused on both the game organizer and participant experiences. Within our product team, there are no silos or artificial barriers, meaning youโll be working closely with other engineers and designers! Whatever will help give our customers the best experience possible!\n\nWe recognize building the best products requires using the best tools, so we empower our engineers through access to the best tools and hardware available to remove barriers and enable fast iterating, robust code deployments.\n\nIn terms of technologies, youโll be working closely with our front-end engineers as well as developing our API and async task system which:\n\n* Is currently based on Django / TastyPie / Celery, with plans to migrate to a Node.js-based architecture (thatโs where you come in!)\n* Stores data in Postgresql, with images & videos in S3\n* Utilizes redis and memcached for caching, session storage, and async task result storage\n* Runs on Linode, switching over shortly to our new kubernetes-based cluster\n* Powers our mobile applications and web-based game manager\n\nLooking at how we work, our methodologies are:\n* Continuous integration using CircleCI to empower developer autonomy and shorten development cycles\n* Agile, with two week sprint cycles\n* Daily async check-ins - stay connected to the team, but without zombie standups\n* Project management in Asana, with our โofficeโ taking place on Slack & Zoom - we have a very strong gif game\n\n**How do you know if this might be for you?**\n\nAt GooseChase youโll be working alongside a team of highly motivated, world-class engineers with tons of opportunities for learning, growth, and mentorship. \nQuimbee is growing! Were looking to add a new full-time member to our core team. This position is 100% remote. All you need is an internet connection and a quiet place to work.\n\n\nWho We Are\nQuimbee is one of the most widely used e-learning platforms for law students in the United States. Simply put, our mission is to help law students get A's in their law school courses.\nSince 2007, Quimbee has helped over a hundred thousand law students prepare for classes and final exams. We provide law students with access to a comprehensive database of case summaries, video lessons, practice questions, a legal dictionary, and a growing library of content. We have become one of the most widely used and trusted sites for law students, serving both institutional clients, such as Yale University, American University, and University of Illinois, as well as thousands of individual law students.\nWe prefer a small and highly effective engineering team, so every new team member is vital to the success of the company.\n\n\nWho Were Looking For\nYou must be an experienced developer. Technically were mostly interested in your recent React Native, Javascript/TypeScript, and general front-end experience.\nYou have to have a special care for writing maintainable and reusable code that every developer on our team can work with and an ability to collaborate well with cross-functional teams.\nYoull join a small tech team, so your voice will be heard when we need to make new technical decisions as our product grows. We expect you to go beyond coding to give input on the product roadmap, design, and architecture.\nWe look for:\n * An experienced mobile developer. You have lots of experience building hybrid mobile applications and ideally at least some experience with native development with iOS and Android platforms. Youre also comfortable writing HTML and CSS.\n * A self-starter. You take responsibility for projects from idea to completion, proactively seeking assistance as needed while guiding the work to successful outcomes.\n * A versatile engineer. You know what you dont know and feel comfortable learning new skills. Youre not ashamed of recognizing mistakes and take measures to avoid falling again.\n * A team player. You share code ownership as much as possible. You don't mind fixing other peoples code or stepping in to help a teammate.\n * A minimalist. You believe a new feature should be built only when the evidence supports it. Youre willing to push back when you believe this rule is being ignored or violated.\n * A great communicator. You communicate your ideas, feedback, and criticism thoroughly, clearly, and courteously. You believe theres no such thing as over-explaining or over-clarifying because thats how miscommunication is avoided.\n * A business-minded engineer. You have deep understanding of the importance of building maintainable, efficient, clean code, while balancing that with the urgency of the business needs.\n \n\nTask Examples\nWorking with us, you could be asked to (solo or as part of a team):\n * Investigate issues reported by our customer support or QA teams, determine impact and root cause, then prioritize and solve them.\n * Discuss new features with our product team and help define the best solutions possible with a focus on the business needs and expected timelines.\n * Participate in the scheduled planning meetings to discuss and estimate work for the upcoming iteration.\n * Develop new features and improve existing ones.\n * Grow and maintain our suite of automated tests.\n \n\n\nBenefits\n\nWhat We Offer\n * Join a small team who loves what they do.\n * 100% remote work for unlimited flexibility.\n * A competitive salary.\n * Untracked paid time off and sick leave.\n * Healthcare coverage (including dental) for you and your family (U.S. employees only).\n * 401(k) with 3% company matching (U.S. employees only).\n \n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n

\nAn amazing opportunity for full-stack Javascript developers to build a modern, serverless product from scratch, creating the team working-style and best practice as we go.\n\nJob description\n\nIf it involves client and server-side Javascript, you can build it, and if it's some new technology you haven't used before... you'll figure it out.\n\nSelecting and using modern development methods and following agile practices, you will build top-to-bottom functionality with ReactJS and React Native for the web & mobile front-ends, through to AWS Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, Kinesis, Aurora, Cognito, Pinpoint, Cloud Directory, Redshift, SQS, Quicksight… and as much of the rest of the AWS FaaS and platform services as make sense to allow you to focus on building applications rather than plumbing.\n\nYou will be part of a new, three-developer team, to deliver a modern application suite that enables companies, public sector organisations, schools and the general public to book and manage the transport they need to get their staff, students and holidaymakers to where they need to be…. think Uber™ for coaches!\n\nWorking in harmony with a devops lead, you’ll also need to lend a hand defining the Terraform based configurations, and figuring out the best methods and tech to introduce CI/CD efficiencies.\n\nBased amongst some of your user base in our Cox Green, Maidenhead office, you will have ample opportunity for corridor testing of ideas through prototypes, whilst more formal UAT will be structured to ensure you (and we!) have the confidence your product will deliver in live.\n\nPlease note that this is not a home or remote worker role, so you must be commutable to Cox Green, however, as with all developer roles, we expect there will be a number days during each week where you simply need to stay home, get your head down and code!\n\nAbout you\n\nYou’re a self-starter: a highly enthusiastic and motivated Javascript-centric developer used to adapting to and learning new technologies, design patterns and architectures as the need arises.\n\nYou love building product that people actually use and just as importantly you care passionately about quality: not just in the end product, but also in delivering code that other developers can maintain, using best-practice design principles and coding standards.\n\nYou wouldn’t dream about writing code without an accompanying test, and you treasure the DevOps principles of developers and technical operations working in harmony to embed security, scale and resilience into your continuous delivery strategy.\n\nTeamwork means more to you than just sharing the tea-runs and buying the Haribo™ on your birthday. You actively assist and mentor your peers in their own learning, know when to ask for help yourself, and the two highlights of your sprint cycle are the planning and retrospective sessions, where you both give and take across story definition, personal recognition and constructive suggestions for improvements.\n\nYour skills\n\n\n* Javascript Expert: you know your promises from your closures and can tell the difference between your observables, prototypes and modules.\n\n\n\n\n\n* ReactJS: if you haven’t yet, then you know you want to; and can instead demonstrate your expertise across Angular, Ember, Dojo or Vue.\n\n\n\n\n\n* React Native: you may have only dabbled, or you may have apps already on the stores, complete with shelling out to native components and SDKs like Geolocation or NFC. Alternatively, if you’ve got some Android Java, SWIFT or ObjectiveC under your belt, then it all counts.\n\n* AWS Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions… or NodeJS: Let’s be realistic… not every developer has worked for forward-thinking companies that know serverless is the future, so if you haven’t yet had a chance to ditch the [virtual] tin, prove to us instead that you are a NodeJS guru and can learn the modern AWS FaaS methodologies as you go.\n\n* Redux? Webpack? Gulp? Browserify? Flux? Relay? Flow? ImmutableJS?: If you have the skills and can prove the advantage of your preferred libraries to your peers, then consensus will mean go for it (license agreement permitting).\n\n* HTML/CSS/SASS/LESS/REST/JSON: Duh!\n\n* TDD/BDD: we shouldn’t even have to mention it. You’ve been on Github. You know that no self respecting NPM ships without its tests. You practice what you preach and provide unto others what which you expect to consume yourself… and it’s not an afterthought.\n\n* Terraform: if you’ve got it, we’ll take it.\n\n* Security ingrained: You know your CAPTCHAs from your SQL injection from your brute force attacks, how to specify and develop to mitigate them, and under the covers you know your IAM from your KMS from your Secrets Manager and will layer security throughout your application stack. ...PII - encrypt it!\n\n* English Communication Skills: you can debate your technical solutions with developers and business people alike. You won’t be expected to write War & Peace, but you will be expected to keep the development wiki comprehensible\n\n\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n
