๐ Please reference you found the job on Remote OK, this helps us get more companies to post here, thanks!
When applying for jobs, you should NEVER have to pay to apply. You should also NEVER have to pay to buy equipment which they then pay you back for later. Also never pay for trainings you have to do. Those are scams! NEVER PAY FOR ANYTHING! Posts that link to pages with "how to work online" are also scams. Don't use them or pay for them. Also always verify you're actually talking to the company in the job post and not an imposter. A good idea is to check the domain name for the site/email and see if it's the actual company's main domain name. Scams in remote work are rampant, be careful! Read more to avoid scams. You will be joining a small, all remote (4 person) engineering team, spread across Europe (UK, GR, CY, PL) with the opportunity to shape and lead all things front-end. Primarily you will be working on our [website](https://www.mote.com/), [Chrome extension](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/mote-voice-notes-feedback/ajphlblkfpppdpkgokiejbjfohfohhmk?hl=en) (in [Google's own top 12 extensions of 2021]( https://gadgets360.com/apps/news/google-favourite-chrome-extensions-2021-download-loom-mote-wordtune-forest-dark-reader-tab-manager-plus-2644345)!), and nascent embed and SDK strategy.\n\n\n## About mote\n\nMote is a two year-old, Silicon Valley VC-backed, web audio recorder company. Our initial market focus has been in education (K12 and Higher Education), where our extension saw dramatic worldwide adoption during the pandemic. We are increasingly exploring entering the enterprise marketplace, as a tool for teams to leave messages and give feedback.\n\n## About you\n* **Amazing player-coach:** an exemplary contributor of maintainable, clean, correct, performant, elegant code, but cares even more about making the team around them smarter, faster, happier.\n* **Not your first rodeo:** You have been around the block enough times to have acquired a playbook of how to build high performing software teams (especially on the front-end), having strongly held evidence-based opinions on the practises and technologies which add or subtract from that.\n* **Missionary not mercenary:** You have checked out mote website, and are intrigued by its potential. You want to stick around a few years to see where it can go.\n\n## The stack you will be working on\n\nThe current front-end stack is built with ReactJS, JavaScript, styled components, and a fairly usual suspect modern toolchain of Webpack, Jest, Cypress, Playwright, yarn workspaces, Storybook, Github, CircleCI, CloudFront, Sentry and Datadog. We are open-minded though currently underinvested in other languages which compile to JS (eg TypeScript, Elm, CoffeeScript etc).\n\nThe back-end is built with Python, Flask, Redis, Dynamo, ECS, S3 and sprinklings of Azure and GCP. A desire to contribute to back-end API implementation is welcomed if full stack feature ownership is strongly desired as a preferred way of working, but is very far from an essential requirement.\n\nWhile our back-end has heavy test automation investment, we have made substantially less proportional investment on the front-end. The right person will want to lead the charge on paying back tech debt in this area.\n\n## Mote culture\n\n* Mote is a remote-only startup, comprising a small team distributed across many time zones and locations. Weโre genuinely mission-driven and we find our work exciting and rewarding. Thereโs never a shortage of work to do, but we value maintaining work-life balance.\n* To excel in this role at Mote, youโre the kind of person who can prioritise effectively, and then stay in โheads downโ mode to get the job done.\n* As a member of a remote team, youโll be happy working independently, but youโll know how to work collaboratively using asynchronous tools like Mote, Loom and Slack. As a general rule, we try to minimise time spent in scheduled meetings, preferring to โjump on a zoomโ to work through a difficult problem when necessary.\n* As a โMoteyโ, youโll be expected to challenge colleagues - to push back firmly and politely when you disagree, but you try your best to bring the team along with you by explaining your thinking.\n\n\n## Requirements\n\n* You are already a senior front-end engineer or tech lead, with at least 5 years experience at fast-growth consumer and/or SaaS tech companies.\n* You have had enough experience of leading or influencing teams as a senior, that you feel you want to take the next step and own more ownership and responsibility in the success of a front-end team.\n* Demonstrable command of working with production JavaScript/TypeScript codebases\n* You either have formal degree-level training in Computer Science or can demonstrate solid evidence of self-taught solid grasp of fundamentals.\n* You have demonstrated you are a high impact individual contributor combining high levels of accuracy, rigour and output.\n* You have excellent judgement on engineering trade-offs, with a fine-tuned sense of when to pick between accruing more tech debt, leaving as is but increasing tests, refactoring or wholesale rewriting.\n* You have previously championed and lead meaningful investments in test automation (using Jest, Playwright, Cypress etc) and nuanced opinions on test pyramids, ice cream cones and honeycombs.\n* You live by the โno assholeโ rule, demonstrating high levels of empathy for peers, non-technical colleagues and users.\n\nWe have a cut-down version of our web offering in the iOS App Store (built with React Native). This may become an area of increased investment. Experience of React Native is desirable but not essential.\n\n\n## Benefits\n\n* Competitive salary\n* Stock option plan\n* Leave package\n* Work from home\n* Flexible hours\n* Working with an amazing team\n \n\nPlease mention the word **CAPTIVATING** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMy4xNDIuMTUyLjUx). \nYou will form a key part of a team of developers building and maintaining large, complicated Magento sites.\n\nWe're looking for a Backend Magento Developer to help us expand and improve the range of Magento stores that we currently look after. We work with a large number of brands like Richer Sounds, Cox and Cox and Bettys all of which have the vision and drive to push their online presence to the limit! You'll spend your time working closely with our Magento Practice Lead and your squad's Technical Lead to really get to know your customers and their environments.\n\nAs well as Magento 2.x, we have a number of Magento 1.x stores that we're in the process of migrating over to a support platform, so you may need to dip your toes into some older codebases. We're actively moving our customers away from Magento 1.x though.\n\nOver the longterm, there may be opportunities to move from our Magento Practice into our SaaS Practice where our primary technology stack is TypeScript / Node.\n\nA Typical Day\n\nYou start your day in a team Stand Up discussing progress you made yesterday, listening to your team members describe their current issues and dropping some knowledge bombs on how you “solved this last time”. You’re working from home today, so you pay the pet tax and encourage your four-legged-friend wave to the camera before logging off.\n\nFirst up you’ve got a pair-programming session with a Junior Developer in your team to help them through a tough ERP integration that they’ve been working on. They’ve been steadily improving under your experienced wing and are turning into a really productive team member.\n\nAfter lunch you’ll set your Slack status and turn on Do Not Disturb for a couple of hours while you debug a weird issue with a customer’s site. There’s been a change to the out of stock logic recently to support multiple warehouses. You update your unit test suite to cover this unexpected scenario and tell the Project Manager the good news! You push your feature branch to Bitbucket and watch Bitbucket Pipelines build your artifact and prove that your tests pass.\n\nYour JIRA issue has automatically transitioned to “In Code Review” and you open your pull request, studying your diff carefully before assigning it to your team mate for a sanity check.\n\nTomorrow (assuming all is well!) you’ll merge your pull request into a release branch and let Pipelines deploy it to Staging where it will be regression tested by the QA Team and their bank of automated tests. It should be out to Production by the end of the week, providing we can get through the testing and get client sign off by 2pm on Thursday.\n\nIf you read this and it sounds like your ideal job — we want you on the team! You start your day in a team Stand Up discussing progress you made yesterday, listening to your team members describe their current issues and dropping some knowledge bombs on how you “solved this last time”.
