Apply in January 2021. The starting state is Feb 1 or ASAP.\n\nAs a designer youโll work on the web-interfaces of our core product, both for mobile and desktop. That means youโll shape the design system, design the UI and deliver HTML/CSS and maybe even add a pinch of Javascript wherever you think itโs needed. You set your own goals and deliver.\n* Entrepreneurial mindset\n* At least 3 hours overlap with CET\n* Weโre looking for someone to commit for at least 6 months.\n\n### What we offer\n* โฌ75.000 (approx USD 90.000) gross per year, regardless of location\n* Challenging project that might be used by millions of consumers worldwide\n* The freedom to get your work done whenever you want.\n* If we like to work with you: long term job security\n* Applicants from outside the Netherlands will be offered a contractor role. \n\nPlease mention the words **AFRAID MAID SAFE** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMjE2LjczLjIxNi4xODA=). \nJoin us and become a part of history as together we change the face of e-commerce for digital content and preserve the ability of authors to earn a living writing. We are looking for a smart, creative front web developer with a strong design sense to complement the existing team. \n\nThis role will complement the rest of the founding team who has already built the back-end infrastructure and first beta version of the website. As we prepare to come out of beta and traffic is climbing, we now need an updated UI to match.\n\nThe current beta site has been developed in Ruby-on-Rails. We are migrating the core code to Elixir / Phoenix. We're looking to move to a ReactJS front end for the main UI, sporting responsive design and to share code with our parallel React Native app development efforts.\n\nHighlights\n\n\n* Get in on the ground floor and become an owner of a new, industry-transforming company.\n\n* Consult with former kayak.com founding employee & Chief Architect Bill O'Donnell, who is a technical advisor to the company.\n\n* Create your own solutions to challenging technical problems.\n\n* Choose the tools that will be used by you and your colleagues.\n\n* Lead and build the look and feel of an upcoming major e-commerce site.\n\n* Make mistakes, disrupt the status quo, and help us create the engineering culture that you would like -- build your own dream job!\n\n\n\n\nIf hired, you will receive a hefty equity grant relative to the position. You will also earn direct payment in the form of a revenue share on every dollar in revenue we generate directly and across our 1,000+ distribution partners. Your pay will increase as our gross revenue increases, until those rev-share pay levels reach your target salary.\n\nWe are located in the growing Lebanon/Hanover, NH tech region around Dartmouth and the Lebanon airport, but during our launch phase, we expect candidates to work from home, wherever that may be. We will pay for relocation, should that become necessary in the future.\n\nPart Time / Full Time\n\nWe're looking for someone who ultimately wants a full time position with us, but if you need a transitional period working for Scribl part time while you continue to do other work, we fully support that. \n\nSkills & Requirements\n\nNOTE: Your cover letter matters to us, maybe more than your resume! We want to know why you are interested in Scribl. Please read this section and write it accordingly.\n\nWe want you if you are:\n\n\n* Fun, kind, fast, and flexible\n\n* A good communicator\n\n* Possessed of a strong sense for minimalist and elegant design, with a dash of fun\n\n* Passionate about digital content, especially ebooks and audiobooks\n\n\n\n\nAnd have strong technical experience with:\n\n\n* ReactJS (or other deep JavaScript experience)\n\n* HTML5 and Responsive Design\n\n* SEO\n\n* Writing high-quality, testable, and maintainable JS code\n\n* E-commerce and security best practices\n\n* Adobe or other graphic design tools to support your UI work\n\n\n\n\nIf you have some experience with these, that's a plus, but it's not required:\n\n\n* Ruby-on-Rails or Elixir/Phoenix to work with our existing system and back-end\n\n* Familiarity with AWS hosting and OpsWorks\n\n* NGINX, Linux Ubuntu, and Docker \n\n* Full-stack capabilities\n\n* Media presentation of EPUB and stream audio\n\n* Podcasting\n\n* Mobile and Windows UWP development in React Native or Xamarin\n\n* Strong team-building and project management record\n\n* Leadership\n\n\n\n\nYou will be responsible to:\n\n\n* Work on your own and with other developers who are adding capabilities on the back-end and developing mobile apps to accompany our ebook and audiobook store\n\n* Build and support tight integration between the front end UI, our backend database, and our apps so the user experience is preserved regardless of how the user accesses our content\n\n* Nurture a healthy engineering culture\n\n\n\n\nIt is important that you either have or are willing to gain an appreciation for digital content creators -- authors and artists. Our success is dependent on our ability to help them prosper and want that perspective to be shared by everyone on our team. Please describe your interest in Scribl, CrowdPricing, ebooks, or authors in your cover letter. The resume should show you have the skills. The cover letter is what tells us why you may be the right person for the position. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n

\nDo you use the internet? Do you eat food? If so, you know a lot about our product already! Come join our product team at RelayFoods.com, and help build the future of groceries. We are the leading online grocery store in the Mid-Atlantic region, and take pride in an approach that prioritizes healthy food and supports local farmers and economies. As part of the product team, you’ll be an integral part of every aspect of our business, from talking to and building features for our great customers to building internal apps and processes for our marketing, operations, and merchandising departments. We are a remote team with a great culture, and are all passionate about building the absolute best grocery experience possible.\n\nWe're specifically looking for an experienced frontend developer to join our small, but mighty product team. As part of the team, you’ll be responsible for being a thought leader and core architect for our frontend systems. As such, you should have strong opinions about the strengths and weaknesses of different javascript frameworks, and a passion for building well-thought out and maintainable code. That said, we are a small team that firmly believes in the 'always be shipping' mentality, so you should be pragmatic about the tradeoffs inherent in a very iterative development process.\n\nThe interfaces and features of the products we build are well regarded in the industry, and the result of a relentless focus on our customers' needs. Much of the codebase has been built with backbone and marionette, while several products are built with meteor. We even have a number of node based backend services created as lightweight event driven AWS Lambda functions.\n\nOur major challenge at the moment, and what we will specifically be looking for you to help address, is the speed and reliability of our interfaces. We have begun experimenting with lightweight, reactive view layers such as react, efficient data fetching layers such as falcor, and better css/less organization such as BEM, but need someone who can truly lead the transition to these technologies and/or others that we've yet to experiment with. If you do not have deep knowledge about this type of frontend development, then this particular role is probably not the best fit (though, stay tuned for others in the future!).\n\nResponsibilities\n\n\n* Support and build upon the existing UI frameworks that power our user experience.\n\n* Be a thought leader and challenge assumptions as we transition towards a more reactive set of interfaces\n\n* Lead efforts to significantly increase performance and reliability of our frontend systems\n\n* Help us think through and implement our hybrid mobile strategy (check out our responsive mobile site!)\n\n* Oversee the transition to a better set of testing tools/processes\n\n* Research, experiment with, and report on new technologies to achieve our goals\n\n\n\n\nLocation\n\nWe have always been a remote team, and as such, have created processes and tools that allow us to do so in fairly frictionless way. I think you'll find that our team is more tight knit than most in-person teams you'll meet. That said, we are not currently set up to handle far flung employees (think 'other side of the globe') - sorry! We are headquartered in Charlottesville VA, but have offices in Richmond VA and Washington D.C., and team members in Atlanta GA, Greenville SC, and Indianapolis IN.\n\nHow to Apply\n\nWe don't care whether it's through a cover letter, resume, personal site, github repo, message in a bottle, etc., but we primarily want to see:\n\n\n* Evidence of your passion for products and technologies, bonus points if in a food related area\n\n* Evidence of your experience with and deep knowledge around reactive/performant frontend systems\n\n* The name of your favorite dessert, because 1) we care and 2) we want to know that you’re not a robot :)\n\n\n\n\nThere are quite a number of frontend developers these days, and our team is small / oversees the hiring process, so please respect our time by not applying if you don't meet the criteria.
