\nChance is the digital coaching path to choose the job that will make you happy. \nChance thesis is simple: “Engagement at work is a necessary condition for performance at work, and performance at work is a necessary condition for social mobility. And engagement is a function of a person’s authentic sense of purpose aligning with rewarding work”.\n\nThe product enables a user to participate in a 3-month program during which they experience self-reflection, exploration through advanced autocoaching, and human coaching through video-coaching, in order to choose the work that aligns with their aspirations, skills and personal context.\n\nPioneer of the “PsyTech”, every step of the Chance program is adapted to each individual, thanks to real-time data and behavioral analysis. It designs an individualized program, driving the participant to make a series of informed decisions leading to a more fulfilling career path.\n\nThrough autocoaching, the talent is guided to reflect more deeply about the way they think: who they are, how to make choices, what has meaning, what does not. The talent will then be recommended different career paths that correspond to her aspirations, leading to a methodical exploration phase to make the final choice. Chance accompanies the talent until she actually reaches her new professional objective. Video-coaching sessions complete each step of the program: a professional coach, one-on-one tailor-made sessions, to help gently break down the psychological barriers that may exist and have been identified during the self-reflection phase.\n\nOur tech orientation\n\nBy the nature of Chance service, we develop a triple-sided marketplace infrastructure to drive the interactions of our Talents (customers), Coaches and internal Customer Success.\n\nThe solution is currently web-based, providing 3 applications and 2 main backends. We plan to start the move to native applications by the end of the year.\n\nDuring the last months, we have been validating our business model and the time to scale it has come. For that reason, we are looking for talented engineers able to come up with powerful abstractions to allow the product to support an increasing number of both features and users. \n\nwww.chance.co\n\nJob description\n\nAs a senior software engineer, your challenges will be broad in scope and will lay the foundations for a system that will provide cutting-edge digital experiences to hundreds of thousands of people all over the world.\n\nWe value ownership and adaptability. Nothing is someone else’s problem, we act as a team. For that, we made TypeScript our main language to ease the context switch. By the end of your onboarding, you will become owner of crucial pieces of the Chance software.\n\nWe value reliability and code quality a lot, we build dead simple and well tested services. \nSummary\n\nThe Wikimedia Foundation is looking for a Site Reliability Engineer to join its Core Platform Team. This role will directly support our application platform serving the world’s favorite encyclopædia to millions of people around the globe. Wikipedia and its sister projects are powered strictly by Free and Open Source software, with MediaWiki at its core, surrounded by an ecosystem of microservices in PHP, NodeJS, Python, and Go.\n\nWe are a distributed and diverse team of engineers with a drive to explore, experiment, and embrace new technologies. During the past few years we have been transitioning our platform from a monolith to a hybrid microservices architecture, and started migrating our microservices onto Kubernetes running on bare metal. This work underpins our goals of modernizing our platform to help build and support the future work of the WMF, its sister projects and the global community.\n\nIf you find what we do interesting, if you are up to the challenge of improving the reliability and delivery of one of the Internet’s top 10 websites, and you enjoy the idea of working with a globally distributed team, you might be just the person we need. Come as you are! \n\nYou are responsible for:\n\n\n* Ensure smooth and reliable operation of the MediaWiki application platform, the surrounding ecosystem of microservices, and their dependencies (Memcached, Cassandra, Kafka, etcd, …)\n\n* Perform platform transformations and migrations towards modernized infrastructure (HHVM to Zend PHP7, bare metal deployments to Kubernetes clusters, active/active multi-data center support, etc.)\n\n* Bring your creativity to improve our current infrastructure and introduce new automation where needed\n\n* Support new code/feature deployments\n\n* Troubleshoot, debug and follow-up on emerging issues in our application stack and its surroundings\n\n* Interface between the Core Platform Team and the WMF’s SRE team\n\n* Implement and utilize configuration management and deployment tools (Puppet, Kubernetes)\n\n* Assist in the architectural design of new services and making them operate at scale\n\n* Monitoring of systems, services and service clusters, optimization of performance and resource utilization\n\n* Incident response, diagnosis and follow-up on system outages or alerts across Wikimedia’s production infrastructure\n\n* Share our values and work in accordance with them\n\n\n\n\nSkills and Experience:\n\n\n* 3+ years experience in an SRE/Operations/DevOps role as part of a team\n\n* Experience in supporting complex web applications running highly available and high traffic infrastructure based on Linux\n\n* Experience working with PHP, Nodejs and Go applications\n\n* Comfortable with configuration management and orchestration tools (Puppet, Ansible, Chef, SaltStack, etc.), and modern observability infrastructure (monitoring, metrics and logging)\n\n* Aptitude for automation and streamlining of tasks\n\n* Comfortable with shell and scripting languages used in an SRE/Operations engineering context (e.g. Python, Go, Bash, Ruby, etc.)\n\n* Good understanding of Linux/Unix fundamentals and debugging skills\n\n* Strong English language skills and ability to work independently, as an effective part of a globally distributed team\n\n* B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent in related work experience\n\n\n\n\nQualities that are important to us:\n\n\n* Experience managing MediaWiki installations is a major plus\n\n* Track record of open source contributions is highly appreciated\n\n* Familiarity with core distributed systems concepts\n\n* Familiarity with modern distributed container cluster management systems (Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, Mesos, …)\n\n* Low level systems troubleshooting and debugging (CPU/memory profiling, C/C++ experience, in-depth Linux knowledge)\n\n* Experience with advanced distributed storage and database systems (Swift, Ceph, Cassandra, etc.)\n\n* Remote work experience with a highly distributed team\n\n* Familiarity with RFC2549 or similar protocols\n\n\n\n\nThe Wikimedia Foundation is... \n\n...the nonprofit organization that hosts and operates Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia free knowledge projects. Our vision is a world in which every single human can freely share in the sum of all knowledge. \nWe need a strong backend web applications developer, full time. LAMP stack; running proprietary Angular apps on CodeIngnitor, plus ExpressionEngine content management system with lots of customization, a few NodeJS apps for real-time data processing tasks, and a little bit of legacy PHP; running on a multi-tier farm in front of high avail MySQL., hosted in AWS.\n\nLooking for a developer with strong web app architecture experience on the backend to help modernize the legacy code (a little), build and deploy new features and apps (a lot), and in general keep our menagerie of ecommerce sites and internal support applications working like a charm.\n\nThe current development team works 100% internally focused, on dedicated systems for our ecommerce sites, marketing, operations, and investment/financial tools for our analysts. 4 full-time devs, two part time, plus 3 designers, all working in a DevOps style. Informal and flat organization, with lots of sharing and collaboration, but also complete ownership of your projects from concept to shipping. \n\nMust be a strong multi-tier web applications developer who can work on all aspects of the site from front-end (coding, not design) to application and data layers. Good working knowledge of security and scalability best practices. Experience in a fast release cycle environment – we put out new code multiple times per day. Self-driven, with a focus on putting out clean and well documented code. \n\nBonus points if you:\n\n\n* Know SQL like the back of your hand. Lots of focus on reporting and data visualization for the marketing and sales team.\n\n* Have testing and analytics experience. We make heavy use of Google Analytics, Optimizely, etc. to find out what works and doesn’t for our users. \n\n* Can pitch in on AWS systems management – anything from setting up an SSH relay box at the edge, to configuring opcode caching on PHP, to updating puppet to add additional dependencies.\n\n\n\n\nWork is 100% remote with no travel requirement (if you want to come visit our main office in the beautiful ski village of Stowe, VT, you’ll be welcome of course). All existing developers and designers are remote too – no odd man out here. \n\nCompany has been around 10+ years, profitable since inception, and is a leader in the investment publishing industry. Flexible schedule and shift timing. Paid time off. Etc. \n\nIndividuals and placement agents only, no vendors. Must have at least 5 years web app dev experience. Non-U.S. welcome to apply, but English skills must be 99th percentile, as this is a fast-moving U.S. based team. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n
