๐ Please reference you found the job on Remote OK, this helps us get more companies to post here, thanks!
When applying for jobs, you should NEVER have to pay to apply. You should also NEVER have to pay to buy equipment which they then pay you back for later. Also never pay for trainings you have to do. Those are scams! NEVER PAY FOR ANYTHING! Posts that link to pages with "how to work online" are also scams. Don't use them or pay for them. Also always verify you're actually talking to the company in the job post and not an imposter. A good idea is to check the domain name for the site/email and see if it's the actual company's main domain name. Scams in remote work are rampant, be careful! Read more to avoid scams. When clicking on the button to apply above, you will leave Remote OK and go to the job application page for that company outside this site. Remote OK accepts no liability or responsibility as a consequence of any reliance upon information on there (external sites) or here.

\nJoining the Live Games Team\n\nWe’re focused on one mission: to make our successful MMO games technologically fit for 2021 and beyond. Our teams pull off daring and courageous things, like writing our own transpiler to migrate hundreds of thousands of lines of code from Flash to TypeScript - and then rolling that out to a global, highly engaged player base, successfully. No-one has done this before us, definitely not at this scale.\n\nWe’ve moved almost all of our critical infrastructure to AWS; we run Lambda functions written in node.js in production, while also feeding our huge Java monolith that just kept growing over the years. We integrate React and Vue apps into our legacy Flash games; we mix and match and build for the future, while respecting our past.\n\nClearly this isn’t for everyone. It’s for the daring, the creative, the out-of-the-box-thinkers, the experienced, the multi-linguists, the curious, the getting-sh*-done-ers. If you think you’re one of them, you may have found your new home. Come join us.\n\nThe opportunity\n\n\n* You will be sharing the ownership of the technical design and implementation of new and existing Web-based features that run on millions of desktop and mobile devices all over the world, 24/7/365; specifically, you will work on the ongoing development of our engaging in-game shop experience.\n\n* Working with a small and focused team, you establish and implement practices and processes that guarantee a consistently high level of quality (linting, testing, deployment).\n\n* Automate all the things! We have made a lot of headway into automating major parts of build/deployment/monitoring/alerting/recovery, but we still need more. Our end goal is having fully autonomous systems, you – together with current DevOps engineers – will help us get there, faster!\n\n\n\n\nYour qualifications\n\n\n* You have a strong software engineering background and are experienced writing real, end-user facing production code with actual load and uptime requirements. Experience here means heavy involvement in designing the solution and an active role coding it.\n\n* You’re capable of provisioning an entire functioning system from start to finish, using configuration management tools\n\n* You bring demonstrated experience working with REST or GraphQL APIs\n\n* Several years of hands-on experience with frontend development, including popular frameworks like Vue.js and/or React (we use Vue), and, of course, HTML and CSS\n\n* Excellent understanding of and experience with async and Promises and other advanced JavaScript concepts\n\n* Experience developing and shipping plugins for frontend platforms (eg Trello PowerUps) is a plus\n\n* Experience creating and shipping plugin framework is a very strong plus\n\n\n\n\nWhy join us\n\n\n* You join a supportive team in a pragmatic, yet challenging environment, with short communication processes and flat hierarchies, perfect for growing your skills.\n\n* You will be working with multidisciplinary colleagues from the entire production lifecycle, developing and operating two very successful free-to-play games on mobile and web.\n\n* The team has many years of experience with live operations and a long-term strategy that keeps the players' excitement and engagement in mind.\n\n* Yet we are not set in our ways. We value employee contribution and you can have a real impact on the way we develop and operate our games.\n\n* While it's critical to keep our games running 24/7, we take work-life balance very seriously: We're proud to say that crunch-time is a very rare exception.\n\n\n\n\nDuring this difficult time of the Covid-19 pandemic, the safety of our employees and everyone else is of utmost importance to us which is why we switched to a solely virtual recruiting process for the time being. We are still hiring and happy to receive your application in English (cover letter, CV, references, degree)!\n\n#Stayhome #Stayhealthy\n\nYour contact person for this job offer is Juliane Voigtländer.\n\nGoodgame Studios is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage and support diversity and welcome all qualified applications. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n

### WHO ARE AWE\n\nWe are the original pioneers in the web-based Augmented Reality industry and after years of R&D, we launched the world's first "commercial webAR creation platform" way back in 2016. \n\nThe AWE (Augmented Web Experiences) platform enables people to create image AR, spatial AR, face AR, location AR and interactive 360ยฐ or webVR experiences using our drag and drop editing tool or your own custom code.\n\nOur customers are at the core of everything we do. We strive to make creating webAR experiences as easy as possible. They range from heavy hitting corporates, to government departments, global digital agencies, marketing agencies (small, medium and large), digital freelancers and educators. \n\nWithin these companies our customers tend to be the creative forces; think "designers, artists, 3d modellers, front end developers and js folk that don't have the knowledge or the time to get their heads into the complex space that is webAR". \n\nWe make their lives easier by giving them the online tools they need to create a range of webAR experiences that "just work". All in your web browser. Experiences that seamlessly work across different devices without needing to add any code (unless you want to). \n\nWe are seeing increasingly strong growth in our customer base as more people are coming to understand what AR is, and more importantly how AWEsome it is when it's delivered through the web browser. \n\nCovid also means people are using webAR to connect to their customers in new and innovative ways too.\n\n### WHAT DOES WORKING AT AWE LOOK LIKE?\n\nSince its inception, AWE has been a "remote first and remote only" company and have established our team, processes and work based around this idea. We believe that life and work aren't separate. Supporting our team to work flexibly and remotely enables people to be more productive and allows for you to fit "more of your life" into your day.\n\nOur team is currently distributed across Europe and the Asia Pacific region, although we're open to welcoming new team members from anywhere in the world. \n\nWe don't have a physical office. Your office could be your home or a co-working space, a beachside cafe or the top of a mountain. As long as you have an internet connection, you decide where you work from. We have a culture of trust and accountability so we don't tell you when and where to work. Rather we are focused on productivity and open communication within the team. We encourage the team to have at least a 2-4 hour working time crossover window each day, especially with team members you may be currently working on a specific project with. And each day we have an all-in team meeting. For some, this means starting earlier in their day (freeing up your afternoons and evenings), for others it is starting later in the day, and some even like to split up their work times across their day and evening.\n\nOur primary communication is via online chat, and tickets/wiki for work tasks, allocation and documentation. Our primary language is English as this is the common language across team members. We don't mind if you don't have perfect spoken English, however your written English needs to be pretty good, as is your ability to type quickly in online channels as part of team discussions.\n\nWe also have a flat team structure, so you will be talking and working with anyone and everyone in the team when you need to.\n\n### WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING\n\nWe don't believe in giving you a list of tools and frameworks you need to have a high proficiency in. We don't need you to have a specific number of years experience under your belt. What we are looking for is someone with a passion for the web and experience building web based applications to work with our growing team to continue our groundbreaking work in the spatial and augmented web. \n\n### ABOUT YOU:\n* You have a good working knowledge of HTML and CSS\n* Have at least some experience with vanilla javascript\n* Good git skills\n* Have a working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite of tools or similar (e.g. Sketch, Figma, Invision, etc.). We're not asking you to be a designer, but you'll need to code product and project user interfaces, optimise images and other media from our content, design and UX team.\n* You have experience creating web based applications and\n* You are a great communicator. You appreciate the importance of clear communication, especially when workingย withย a remote team.ย \n* You bring a genuine aptitude for problem solving and the ability to work autonomously with a high degree of accountability. Youย are happy working on a task by yourself,ย but you take initiative to involve other team members whenย necessary.ย \n* You have aย high attention to detail.ย Youย are intimatelyย familiarย withย the complexitiesย ofย web development,ย e.g.ย mobileย responsiveness,ย browserย compatibilityย and ensure you QA all work before handing it over for integration or review.\n\n\n**Salary based on demonstrable skills and experience, and location.** \n\nPlease mention the words **RING DECORATE DISAGREE** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMjE2LjczLjIxNi4yMTE=). You will, therefore, become an **essential part of our long-term success**, someone who is making a **direct impact** on not only the growth and reputation of our foundation but also the whole world of design education and beyond!\n\nThis is a paid **full-time** position which is **location independent**: Youโre free to work from wherever you want in the world. You will have regular video-based contact with your colleagues and get to meet them physically on team trips.\n\n**What you will be doing**\n\nYou will join our team as our Senior UI/Front-End Developer and your main responsibilities will be to:\n* Write reusable components using the Laravel Blade template engine, CSS and presentational JavaScript.\n* Help improve our Design System at [https://design-system.interaction-design.org](https://design-system.interaction-design.org) \n* Maintain our PostCSS code base to keep and improve reusability and DX and deliver less CSS to the end user.\n* Improve CSS architecture and guidelines, make principal technical decisions in the UI area.\n* Help us use animations more widely, e.g. with Lottie animations.\n* Automate regression testing and front end code quality checks.\n* Improve the accessibility and performance of our pages.\n* Work with our design team to improve UX on different stages of the design process.\n* Work on PWA for our course platform as a part of the front-end team (offline support, better mobile experience, etc.)\n* Help yourself, and the whole team, get better and better. For example, by improving our handbook at [https://handbook.interaction-design.org](https://handbook.interaction-design.org). Or use our library of evergreen literature on back-end and front-end subjects to broaden your horizon.\n\n**You and our future-proof stack**\n\nForget IE and clunky workarounds for compatibility with other dinosaur browsers: We spend our time only on modern Web APIs since we only support evergreen browsers.\n\nWeโre constantly refactoring our front-end code with the goal of reaching front-end heaven. We seek a balance between sticking with what works and fearlessly exploring the new:\n\n* Laravel Blade template engine (yup, we build our HTML on the server-side).\n* PostCSS to maximize the power of modern CSS.\n* Webpack for perfect control over front-end assets.\n* Latest JS with support for ES2020 features. To accomplish this we use the latest Babel releases.\n* BEM/ITCSS in combination with Tailwind CSS based utility classes.\n* A custom-made [design system](https://design-system.interaction-design.org) to achieve consistency and ease of use.\n\nWe โค CI (Continuous Integration) and CD (Continuous Delivery) so we usually deploy a few releases per day: Zero downtime. Just a few buttons to push. No sweaty palms.\n\nWe care deeply about Developer Experience (DX) of our codebase and tools. DX and DevOps is our middle name: git, GitHub, HTTP2, CDN, AWS, Enterprise SSDs on our high-spec servers and much more.\n\n**About you**\n\n* You have at least 5 years of experience working as a Front-End Developer.\n* You prefer native web APIs and functionality over alluring new frameworks - and you know how and when to use them.\n* You regularly use WHATWG and W3C and you are intimately familiar with the latest web standards.\n* You can create your own intelligent, reusable CSS layout system.\n* You test across devices and browsers, and optimize for performance.\n* You write testable code.\n* You love to learn through doing. Youโre always ready to put in some hard work to expand your skills.\n* You speak and write acceptable English โ not perfect English, just acceptable โ since you will be working with people from Canada, England, Denmark, the US, Belarus and Brazil among others.\n* You are a team player and you don't bring your ego to work. \n* You are self-motivated and self-disciplined and thus work well in a flat hierarchy with lots of freedom.\n* You love to have creative freedom, make independent judgments and live up to the responsibility that comes with that freedom.\n* You love to create tangible resultsโevery hour and every day.\n\n**Bonus points**\n\nYou get bonus pointsโฆ\n* if you have contributed to open source\n* if you have a Masterโs Degree in Computer Science\n* if you have PHP coding experience\n* if you have read articles from the following authors:\n * Heydon Pickering https://heydonworks.com/latest/\n * Rob Dodson\n * Sara Soueidan https://www.sarasoueidan.com/blog/ \n\nPlease mention the words **PREFER PANIC SUGAR** when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMjE2LjczLjIxNi4yMTE=). After closing a strategic partnership in Japan we are quickly building out our team in Tokyo.\n\nHaving recently raised a total of $16MM from private and strategic corporate investors, we have plenty of fuel in the tank to build out our product, our team and to fund our global expansion.\n\nTo fulfill our mission to nurture the original creativity of children around the world, we are constantly exploring new ways to incorporate the latest ideas, approaches, and technologies into our products and services.\n\n\nAbout our development Team and Technologies\n\n\n* Our development team is headed by an experienced CTO, 1 front-end developer, 4 full-stack developers and one test engineer.\n\n* We start the day with a Scrum call and organise our work in 2-weekly Sprints.\n\n* Github, Codeship, Heroku and Amazon AWS are just a couple of the many friends we rely on every single day.\n\n* ScreenHero allows us to enjoy pair-programming sessions, even when members are located on the other side of the world.\n\n* Our team is small and flexible, and everyone participates in the decision-making process.\n\n* We love Ruby on Rails but have switched our web app over to Ember.js in the past year, building up a lot of Ember.js experience.\n\n* With our apps we support desktop browsers, smartphone and tablet devices and keep pushing the boundaries of responsive web and CSS techniques.\n\n* Our focus is building and keep iterating on universal experiences and interfaces that work for and delight users between ages of 1 and 99.\n\n* The back-end is made available to our web app, our native mobile apps and our partner's applications as a simple REST API.\n\n* Security is extremely important to us and we regularly work with experts to review our security strategy.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout you\n\n\n\n* You have experience working with Rails and one of the Javascript frameworks.\n\n* You know your way with databases and APIs but what you are really passionate about is javascript, html and css.\n\n* You insist on clean code that leads to beautiful user-interfaces.\n\n* You have experience with data-driven product development: analytics, A/B testing, etc\n\n* You have experience troubleshooting cross-browser compatibility issues\n\n* You take quality and testing very seriously. Very very seriously. Obviously.\n\n* You are fluent in spoken and written English (knowledge of Japanese is a big plus).\n\n* You have a pro-active personality, are a real team player and feel comfortable working in a fast-paced tech startup environment.\n\n* You have a fundamental interest in what we are doing and show empathy for our users.\n\n* You have a general curiosity and an ability to embrace complexity\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat we offer\n\n\n* A full time job opportunity, but part-time contractors are also welcomed.\n\n* We love remote work but relocation to Tokyo can also be arranged.\n\n* Super-flexible work schedule: we work across time zones and allow everyone to work when they are the most productive.\n\n* A very competitive salary and possibly stock options.\n\n\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n
