About the role\nThe Stride Engineering team is on the lookout for a motivated Cloud Platform Engineer to help take us to the next level. We are a small engineering team that collaborates very closely. You will drive operational excellence by implementing and supporting DevOps practices such as fast feedback cycles using monitoring, increased delivery cadence by improving our Continuous Delivery processes and pipelines, and increasing the reliability and scalability of our systems through automation and infrastructure as code. Youโll work closely with other engineers to help them build safe and reliable systems.\n\nOur technology stack consists of NodeJS and Python backend services along with Redis, ElasticSearch, DynamoDB and Postgres data stores. All of this is running in AWS on EC2, containerized in ECS or on Lambda. We use Terraform to manage our infrastructure resources. Ideally, youโll have experience building and managing cloud-ready systems on AWS.\n\nWe are building the world's first benefits platform designed specifically for independent contractors and part-time employees. You will be a cornerstone to ensuring that the platform is reliable and scalable. If youโre a seasoned engineer who wants to make an impact, the kind of which only a fast-growing startup can provide, we would love for you to join us on this adventure. The nature of work is changing, forever. Be a part of it.\n\nAbout Us\nStride provides the worldโs first benefits platform designed specifically for independent workers, helping them save time and money on insurance, taxes and hundreds of thousands of products and services. The company is backed by Venrock, New Enterprise Associates and F-Prime Capital Partners.\n\nWe support a flexible work structure with an office in San Francisco, along with multiple hubs across the US. You also have the option to establish your own fully remote office.\n\nMore about Us (Press):\nBorn Digital: "Mastercard, Stride Partner for Gig Worker Benefits"\nFast Company: "Ahead of its IPO, Postmates starts offering no-strings perks for couriers"\nThe New York Times: "Itโs Not Just You: Picking a Health Insurance Plan Is Really Hard"\n\nPerks & Benefits\nAt Stride we work hard, sweat the details, and enjoy life away from the computer, too. \nWe are looking for an engineer with a “find a way or make a way” attitude that is excited to join a small but growing team that has more projects than developers. This opportunity is for someone excited for autonomy, ownership, and breadth of responsibility.\n\nOur environment is typical of a start-up:\n\n\n* We work in small teams, fast-paced, we all get a lot done by everyone wearing many hats.\n\n* We are serious about optimizing our time and staying focused on the most important goals and outcomes.\n\n* We are a remote team and are completely on board with 100% remote work, meaning we focus on over-communication to ensure we can stay in sync despite our physical distance.\n\n* We coordinate using a kanban board, hold a daily standup, and mostly communicate via ad hoc video calls and Slack.\n\n* We’re building lots of new things, but also maintaining a significant business. We are mindful of the balance and need to monitor and pay down tech debt and also innovate with exciting greenfield projects.\n\n\n\n\nTech stack.\n\n\n* Our retail application is a frontend-heavy PWA written in NodeJS and React, containerized via Docker, and Deployed via Kubernetes. We take critical feedback and push through to get the job done. \n\n\n\n* Rigor: We are data driven, analytical and exhaustive in decision making. We take in the evidence, integrate information from multiple sources quickly, draw conclusions and take actions - quickly.\n\n\n\n* Collaboration: We leave our egos at home, we challenge each other and we work together to find the best solutions, every day, day in and day out. \n\n\n\n* Accountability: We sign up for the hard stuff and take ownership to see it through. \nPlatform.sh is a groundbreaking hosting and development tool for web applications. \n\nTo reinforce our technical prowess, we are looking to grow our operations team. If you’re looking for an exciting, high-growth opportunity with an award-winning, cutting-edge company, this could be just the job for you\n\nFor its PaaS solution https://platform.sh is looking for an Operations and Service Reliability Engineer with a taste for Python and Go, great Linux system understanding, and a real hunger for the challenges of building robust, distributed systems.\n\nPlatform.sh is a PaaS shrouded in a lot of black magic (we can consistently clone a whole running cluster, with its state, databases, indexes in a matter of seconds). We want to get this down to the hundreds of milliseconds domain. Interested? There is more...\n\nOur external API is pure Hypermedia REST + oAuth on top of Pyramid. It mechanizes the Git layer and needs more features.\n\nWe can consistently generate from the same manifest a Docker container, an LXC one, or VM disk images (AWS, Azure, OpenStack), we want more targets.\n\nWe probably have the highest industry container density. We need to get it higher.\n\nWe support any Python, Ruby, NodeJS or PHP, Java and .NET, time to roll-out Elixir, of course, Elixir (and Rust. We need Rust).\n\nDirectly reporting to one of our Directors for the Operations Infrastructure Department and in close interaction with our Engineering and Customer Success teams, you will be responsible for:\n\n\n* cloud operations: configure clusters, deploy stuff, follow-up on alerts, help customer support debug issues.\n\n* automating all of the above so they can instead drink margaritas (or non-alcoholic beverages, of course)\n\n* creating systems, tools & processes that will enhance our support and operations efficiency\n\n* improving service quality, discipline and reliability throughout lifecycle\n\n* monitoring operating objectives, streamline and automate intervention\n\n* continuous learning from Operations experience, modeled as software\n\n\n\n\nThis is a fully remote position for a candidate based in EMEA.\n\nThe ideal candidate\n\n\n* has proven successful experience in an operations role,\n\n* has demonstrated the ability to successfully manage cloud-based infrastructure for a fast growing organization,\n\n* has experience with containerization technologies,\n\n* has had exposure to cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP, ...),\n\n* understands how an OS works, knows networking, how git works, and the constraints of a distributed system,\n\n* Puppet experience,\n\n* is proficient in Python (Golang a plus).\n\n\n\n\nNice to have \n\n\n* knowledge of Magento Ecommerce, Symfony, Drupal, eZ Platform, or Typo3.\n\n\n\n\nNote: we don't like stress, so we build everything to be robust and resilient, but stuff does break. This is a role with on-call duties and fire drills. If this fills you with dread... well, this might not be a fit for you. \n\n#Salary and compensation\n

\nWe are looking for an engineering leader with a “find a way or make a way” attitude who can report to the CEO, build a team of 3-4 engineers, and lead them both technically and managerially.\n\nThis opportunity is for someone excited for autonomy, ownership, and breadth of responsibility.\n\nSan Francisco preferred, but 100% Full-Time Remote no problem.\n\nOur environment is typical of a start-up:\n\n\n* Small team, fast-paced, we all get a lot done by everyone wearing many hats.\n\n* We are serious about optimizing our time and staying focused on the most important goals and outcomes.\n\n* We have remote team members and are completely on board with 100% remote work.\n\n* We coordinate using a kanban board, hold a daily standup, and mostly communicate via ad hoc video calls and Slack.\n\n* Our technology is written in NodeJS and React and lives on the Google Cloud Platform.\n\n\n\n\nBuild something challenging.\n\nThis isn't just another CRUD application. Your challenge will be to deliver a highly-available service on top of a dynamic collection of third-party data sources whose priority is anything other than making your job easy. Explore the limits of your own resourcefulness by designing human and automated systems that deliver true reliability in an otherwise unpredictable environment.\n\nSee if you fit our requirements.\n\nFor this role, we are looking for someone with the following characteristics:\n\n\n* 2+ years experience building and managing a team of engineers\n\n* 5-10 years experience working in back-end applications\n\n* 2+ years experience working with front-end applications\n\n* Deep familiarity with ES6/NodeJS including deep understanding of promises, async/await\n\n* Bonus for familiarity with Chromium/Puppeteer and/or DOM manipulation/selection\n\n* Ability to acutely focus on company objectives and mission at hand.\n\n* Proven dedication to creating maintainable, functional, and reliable systems.\n\n* Ability to pass a background check; have appropriate work authorization\n\n\n\n\nTo achieve our mission, we always look for high-caliber people who share our core values:\n\n\n* Grit: Resilient problem solvers who finish what they start and love tackling problems of all sizes. We take critical feedback and push through to get the job done.\n\n* Collaboration: Egos can be left at home, our focus is on the best outcome, which means regularly challenging each other and being willing to be wrong.\n\n* Extreme Ownership: We sign up for big challenges and take extreme ownership to see it through. We make lemonade out of lemons when we have to and don’t let frustration get in the way of getting it done.\n\n* Curiosity: We’re passionate learners and get excited to nerd out over non-work related topics at a perhaps unnecessary level of detail.\n\n* Honesty: We’re transparent and honest because that’s the right way to treat other people. Integrity is the basis of trust, and trust is everything when you’re creating the future together.\n\n\n \n\n#Salary and compensation\n
