Remote Development Manager Reliability Engineering

The Reliability Engineering team empowers service owners to get their new features and products into the hands of clients while ensuring that Wealthsimple remains reliable.\n\n\nThis role has as much cultural influence as technical influence within our Engineering organization. We create tooling and frameworks for other teams to use and only add as much process as is necessary (and never more) to ensure services are resilient and reliable.\n\n\n\nWhat we’re working on 🚀\n* Creating and maintaining a suite of Reliability tools that empower all teams across Wealthsimple to improve reliability for our clients\n* Proactively strengthening our systems using Conditioning principles and practices including load testing, stress testing, and game days\n* Implementing solutions for tracking Service Level Objectives (SLOs) across the organization and giving hands-on support for teams to meet their objectives\n* Strengthening our approach to development, deployment, and maintenance of services so that we increase reliability across the board\n* Building a culture of incident management and automation during incidents\n* Formalizing and centralizing the efforts across the company to offer consistent reliability for all products\n* Participating in cross-team investigations related to incidents or performance degradation\n\n\n\nScope & Impact\n* Directly manage the people and the projects of Wealthsimple’s Reliability Engineering team\n* Actively contribute to architecture decisions and build software affecting large parts of the organization\n* Define best practices and standards that affect multiple teams, and hold teams accountable to these standards\n* Mentor engineers at all levels\n* Be a leader for the team, increased individual and team performance, growing careers, and communicating in a way that effectively reaches audiences across the company\n* Work with staff engineers to curate and evolve our company-wide technology and tools\n\n\n\nWe’re looking for someone who\n* Is a true leader and caring manager for the Reliability Engineering team\n* Is able to clearly and effectively communicate, internally and externally, the organization’s vision and strategy and explain technical decisions\n* Has experience building, evolving, and maintaining large, reliable, and scalable systems or participating in or alongside reliability teams or similar roles like Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)\n* Is a mentor and who will have a large positive impact on morale and company culture\n* Is an effective listener, consensus builder and effectively incorporates diverse ideas into a coherent vision\n\n\n\nOur tech stack\n* We have a service-oriented architecture with 150+ services\n* These services are a mixture of Ruby on Rails, Java/Kotlin, NodeJS\n* Our front end user interfaces are written in React and React Native with TypeScript\n* We run a containerized platform on AWS and highly leverage technologies like Aurora, SQS, SNS, S3, Kafka and GraphQL\n\n\n\n\n\nWhy Wealthsimple?\n🤑 Competitive Salary with top-tier health benefits and life insurance\n📈 Retirement savings matching plan using Wealthsimple Work\n🌴 20 vacation days per year and unlimited sick and mental health days\n📚 Up to $1500 per year towards wellness and professional development budgets respectively \n🛫 90 days away program: Employees can work internationally in eligible countries for up to 90 days per calendar year \n🌎 A wide variety of peer and company-led Employee Resource Groups (ie.
