To continue our growth weโre seeking a Senior Backend Engineer located in London or Auckland. With your strong production experience of Python and ETL processes, youโll play a key role in our data extraction, transformation pipelines, data storage (MongoDB), and data delivery via AWS API Gateway (Rest APIs) and AWS AppSync (GraphQL). Youโll need a deep understanding and experience with serverless AWS (Lamba with EventBridge), and knowledge of the serverless framework (https://www.serverless.com/) would be a significant benefit.
To excel in this role, youโll learn quickly, think big, and deliver rock-solid results in a fast-paced startup environment. You implicitly know how to balance safe decisions while proactively researching and running code experiments. Youโre someone who embraces collaboration and feedback with open arms. How We Work at Basket
At Basket, we work in 2 week development cycles with a clearly defined goal. Weโre inspired by companies like Linear where quality work is more important than quantity of features released. We plan each cycle well ahead of time with team discussions, research and workshops to make sure weโre making informed decisions.
Hereโs how our typical cycle looks;
2 weeks before a cycle we plan and define requirements for features
1 week before a cycle we do technical due diligence and write acceptance criteria
During a cycle we write code using test-driven development, test code to development and staging environments, collaborate with QA, Design and PM team members to ensure features are production ready.
What You'll Do
Write, improve and maintain serverless functions to accurately transform and load data into efficient and organised MongoDB storage
Develop and maintain 3rd party data clients to enrich stored data
Create and update API endpoints for a frontend client using AWS API Gateway (Rest APIs) and AWS AppSync (GraphQL)
Analyse and tune application performance with a focus on efficiency using analytics tools such as Lumigo, Sentry, Segment and DataDog
Research and architect solutions using serverless architecture patterns
Implement and improve analytics and application monitoring performance
Approach your work using test driven development (TDD) to ensure the integrity of your code and our services

Experience working in a VC-backed startup environment

Are you looking for your next role with a startup?ย
Commit creates exciting career opportunities with high impact startups throughout North America for our private network of highly vetted engineers.
Our startups look for Senior Developers eligible to work in Canada. The ideal candidate has an entrepreneurial mindset, growth-oriented attitude, ambitions of excellence in their craft and a combination of the following tech stack:ย
Front-End: One/some of: Vue.js, React, Redux, Next
We believe that language is a tool. Itโs more important that you have experience with one or more modern coding languages than that you have experience with any particular language itself.
To apply to Commitโs network, we ask that you fill out a quick application on our website, which is free of charge.
If your application is accepted, you will go through a quick three-step interview process, and the best part - no technical interviews!ย
If you officially get accepted into our private network, you will be paid a full salary while we work to match you with our startup partners. Once matched, you can pilot with the startup for 3 months. If you love it, you can continue with them; if not, weโll work with you to find a better match.ย
Note: We only accept applications from high-potential, innovative startups that are financially stable and genuinely interested in prioritizing our engineersโ growth and development and always do what's right for the engineer.
As an early-stage startup, we know itโs critical to build inclusive processes as a part of our foundation. We are committed to building and fostering an environment where our employees feel included, valued, and heard. We strongly encourage applications from Indigenous peoples, racialized people, people with disabilities, people from gender and sexually diverse communities and/or people with intersectional identities.
If you require accommodations during any stage of our recruitment process, please let us know how we can best support you.
